My son has been attending KRK since he was 12 month old.
I’ve seen him grow so much. Now that he is in the GA-Pre-K program there and attending virtually during the pandemic he is still very connected and learning so much. I have no doubt he will be more than prepared for Kindergarten. This is a great school for academics. The teachers truly care about your child and their education.

‘This Must Stop’: Atlanta Mayor Strongly Condemns Violence After Girl’s Murder (The New York Times, USA)

The lofty aspirations of U.S. protesters are overshadowed by riots and violence . Children are increasingly becoming its victims. So, eight-year-old Secoria Turner was killed in Atlanta over the holiday weekend. “The reality is that it’s not the police who shoot people. These are members of the same community shooting at each other,” the mayor of the city said.

Atlanta – Black Lives Matter activists have already figured out what to build on the site of the burned Wendy’s restaurant, namely the Rayshard Brooks Center for Peace, where they will hold training and counseling courses, run various youth programs to make this center a living memorial to the man whose fatal encounter with the police turned this restaurant into the epicenter of the city’s unrest.
However, these lofty aspirations are overshadowed by continued unrest and violence. On Saturday, July 4, an 8-year-old girl named Secoriea Turner was shot and killed after a group of armed men blocked the path of a car carrying a child, authorities said.
“You killed your own people – this time you killed your own people,” said the father of the murdered girl, Secoriya Williamson, during a press conference on Sunday, July 5. – You killed a child. She didn’t do anything to anyone.”
This murder shook the city, which was already in a desperate situation.
Atlanta has been engulfed in unrest for weeks: Brooks’ June 12 murder sparked riots on the streets of the city, and some police department officials staged their own protests after two police officers were charged in connection with the murder.
“Enough is Enough,” read the headline on the front page of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday, June 6th. This was a quote from Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, speaking at a press conference on Sunday, July 5, and her words reflected the mood of many people across the country, where several children have died in shootings over the past few days.
“The reality is that people on the streets of Atlanta are not shot at by the police. These are members of the same community shooting each other,” Bottoms said during a press conference.
This ongoing battle with occasional shootings escalated in other cities, including Chicago and Philadelphia, where at least five people were killed in just a few hours on Sunday, July 5, including a 6-year-old boy.
At least 30 people were shot dead across the country over the weekend, officials said.
Philadelphia recorded 30% more homicides this year than in 2019, officials say, and this year is likely to be the worst year since gun violence engulfed the city in terms of homicides in 2007. weapons.
“The deadly covid-19 pandemic, the riots sparked by the killing of George Floyd, rising poverty rates, the summer heat and the influx of illegal guns have combined into a toxic mixture of desperation in our city, and this problem must be addressed,” said city council chief Darrell Clark ( Darrell L. “The peaceful protest movement has been taken over by criminals with dangerous, destructive plans.
Now innocent citizens of Georgia are being attacked, shot and left for dead,” said Kemp, a member of the Republican Party. Enough tough statements. We must protect the lives and well-being of all residents of Georgia.”
At least four more children were killed during the holiday weekend in the United States. On Saturday, July 4, an 11-year-old boy named Davon McNeal died in Washington DC after he was shot in the head when a group of people opened fire on the street. A 4-year-old boy in St. Louis County also died of a gunshot wound to the head on Saturday, July 4 – county officials said the cause of death was a stray bullet.
Royta Giles, 8, was killed Friday, July 3, in a shootout at a shopping mall in Hoover, Alabama, police said. Representatives of the school where Royta studied in the third grade described the boy as “an intelligent child, a real talent who dreamed of one day getting into the music industry.”
In Chicago, 7-year-old Natalia Wallace was fatally shot while playing at her grandmother’s house.
She is one of nine children who have been killed since June 20, the few weeks that the city saw a spike in violence that activists and officials have described as a wave of anger and desperation, authorities said.
“Think about how many children have been killed in the last two weeks alone,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said before the holiday weekend. – About families that will never recover from this loss. About the broken hearts of mothers, about the trampled hearts of fathers, about old people who grieve for their grandchildren.
Atlanta officials reported that Secoria was in a car with her mother and her friend and that they tried to enter the parking lot next to Wendy’s. A group of people blocked their entrance to the parking lot, and at least one of them started shooting at the car.
The city authorities announced a $10,000 reward, and the girl’s family asked anyone who knows something about the shooters to report it.
“We didn’t mean to cause harm,” said the girl’s mother, Charmaine Turner, during a press conference on Sunday 5 July.
“My little girl didn’t mean to cause harm. Someone must know something.”
Another shootout broke out later on Sunday 5 July and police say one person was killed.
Wendy’s was burned down by protesters against Brooks’ murder. Some Black Lives Matter activists have already begun to propose plans to turn the site into a community center with various youth programs, legal aid, courses, and parenting counseling.
In their video message, the organizers condemned the murder of the girl and stated that their activists had nothing to do with it. “We are at one with you, and we are here to support you,” the organizers said, offering their help to the Secoria family.
They added that this act of violence only emphasized the value of such a center, which they insisted on. “This only confirms that this community is in dire need of healing and peace because we are still targets for violence and trauma,” they said.
However, this murder of a child forced the city authorities to close the parking lot, where the protesters had been constantly staying for several weeks.
On Monday, July 6, public service workers removed all the posters, candles and stuffed animals that the protesters had left behind.
The assassination placed Bottoms in a position that many are already familiar with: the mayor stood in front of the cameras, delivering a deeply personal message to the people of her city amid long-simmering tensions.
When street protests turned violent after the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers, she spoke to cameras to call for calm after demonstrators damaged several downtown buildings and set a police car on fire. That iconic performance, which was shown many times on local television, strengthened her authority in the country so much that she was even named a possible contender for the vice president under Democratic Party candidate Joseph Biden (Joseph R. Biden).
She reappeared on camera after Brooks’ death to announce that Police Chief Erika Shields had resigned and that Officer Garrett Rolfe, who shot Brooks, had been fired.
On the evening of Sunday, July 5, she held another press conference—this time with Secoria’s parents by her side—to strongly denounce the violence that had swept through the city over the past few weeks. The Journal-Constitution newspaper reported on Monday that from May 31 to June 27, 9 people received gunshot wounds in the city.3 people, while for the same period of time in 2019, 46 people received gunshot wounds. 14 people were killed, twice as many as during the same period in 2019.
“Eight year old baby!” the mayor said.
“If you want people to take us seriously, if you don’t want us to lose our movement, then we can’t lose each other in all of this,” Bottoms said in a voice trembling with emotion. – This has to stop. This must stop.”
