Information for New Families — One World Children’s Academy

Do you offer part time?

One World does not offer part time enrollment for students. We only allow full time enrollment Monday through Fridays.

What if my child does not use the bathroom yet?

If your child is still toilet learning our teachers and staff will work with you and your child to help them be successful. A toilet learning agreement is in our Parent Handbook for more information.

How often do you charge tuition & how can I pay?

One World sends invoices via the HiMama app weekly to your inbox. You can then pay by card or bank account. We also accept cash or check payments at the front desk.

What if my child gets sick at school?

One World follows the requirements set forth by the Washoe County Health Department. More detailed information is in our parent handbook.

If my child gets sick or misses school, will I still be charged?

Student enrollment is based on enrollment, not attendance. If your child misses extended amounts of time due to illness or vacation, you will still be charged for your child’s spot. You may use vacation time available to you towards these absences, up to 5 days per year.

Are you closed for holidays?

We are closed for major holidays. We do not close for long breaks such as winter break spring break, etc. Typically we close for 13 days each year, but this number is subject to change each year based on when holidays fall on the calendar. A list is sent out each year for parents to plan their own schedules accordingly.

What if I need to withdraw my child?

One World requires a 2 week written notice when a child will be withdrawn for whatever reason. Parents are still responsible for those 2 weeks of tuition and cannot use any vacation time towards a withdrawal notice.

Do you offer tours?

Please call or email One World to schedule a tour.

What are you doing during COVID?

At this time, masks are not required for staff or students. The staff are cleaning more frequently throughout the day. Our Health Policy is more extensive with guidance and support from the Washoe County Health Department.

Can I visit my child?

The babies are welcome to have parents visit anytime, especially for nursing mothers, or if you would like to come spend some time with your baby. For all other classes we do have an open door policy, however, if visits could be disruptive to your child’s day or to the class, we may ask you to call or message us to check in on how your child is doing. You can call or message as often as you need to get an update on your child.

What if my child has an allergy? Are you a nut free school?

One World is not a nut free school. We do allow children to bring peanut butter sandwiches, etc. If a child has a nut allergy, or any allergy, we post a list in every classroom and our kitchen to avoid those foods children are allergic to. Necessary precautions are taken in the classroom for cleanliness and sanitizing. If your child requires an allergy/medication protocol we will follow that as instructed by a medical professional. We also recommend packing additional snacks in your child’s lunch or providing a stash of snacks for your child in their classroom in case there is an allergy concern.

Do you do before and after school care?

No, we only offer care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, if there is space for your child in the future and you want that spot, we require a deposit of 1 full week of tuition for an infant, or 50% of 1 week tuition for all other ages. Once you start, that deposit will be credited to you towards your first tuition payment. Should you pay a deposit and find other care, the deposit is non-refundable.

Do you offer snacks and lunch?

One World provides a healthy morning and afternoon snack with lots of fruits, vegetables and nutritious options. Lunch needs to be brought from home with an ice pack to keep foods cold, if needed.

What about naps?

All classes excluding the baby room have a scheduled nap/rest period. Babies are on their own schedules so they nap as needed. Our regular nap/rest period for all other ages is 12:00pm-2:30pm.

What kind of curriculum do you use?

One World is a play based school. All classroom curriculums are created by the teachers inspired by monthly themes. Teachers incorporate math, sensory, science, math, language, social and emotional development, and process art. Classroom curriculums are posted on the HiMama app for parents to see.

Do the classrooms follow a schedule?

Each class follows a daily schedule to fit the classroom’s needs with the exception of the Babies. Typically each classroom has morning activities, snack, classroom centers, morning outside time, lunch, nap, snack, afternoon outside time and classroom centers until closing.

What if I need someone else to pick up my child?

Our student information form has a section to list emergency contacts and authorized pick ups. Anyone you allow to pick up your child, their photo ID will be checked upon arrival to the school. If a person will pick up your child regularly, their ID will continue to be checked until we recognize them and know who they are.

How do I get on a waitlist?

It costs nothing to be added to our waitlist. We ask for basic information about your child and contact information for their parent. Should a space become available and we have space for your child, we would contact you and offer you the available spot and you can then accept or decline.

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)

Protecting children from HIV infection is one of the seven priority areas of the UNICEF Strategic Plan. UNICEF is working with partners around the world to help low- and middle-income countries scale up meaningful and effective programs to prevent new infections among children, provide medicines to children and their families living with HIV, and prevent and treat new infections among adolescents, and to provide protection, care and support to families affected by HIV. nine0003

For the first ten years of a child’s life, UNICEF’s programmatic actions target infants and children under five years of age, pregnant women and mothers and contribute to the international targets set in the Global Plan to Eliminate New Infections in Children by 2012 and keeping their mothers alive and Child Survival: Keeping the Promise. Maternal and child health interventions are one of the main interventions aimed at preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, focusing on expanding access to treatment for pregnant and lactating women living with HIV, improving testing among infants, and expanding access to treatment for children. nine0003

In the second ten years of a child’s life, UNICEF pays special attention to adolescents (aged 10–19), especially those who are at increased risk of exposure to HIV, i.e. adolescent girls in generalized epidemic settings, as well as adolescents living with HIV and key adolescent populations (boys who have sex with men, adolescents who inject drugs, children and adolescents involved in sex work). The focus is on supporting countries to scale up the most effective interventions to reduce HIV transmission, morbidity and mortality among adolescents. UNICEF also works with various sectors to address HIV vulnerability through education and promotion of programs on gender equality, respect for human rights and child protection. Involving young people, including those living with HIV, in program planning, service delivery, creating demand for services, monitoring and evaluation is one of the main elements of improving the quality of results. One of the most important hallmarks of all aspects of the UNICEF response to HIV is community mobilization. nine0003

As part of a broader effort to strengthen national social protection systems, UNICEF is working with governments and development partners to scale up HIV-responsive social protection, economic support and family-based care programs to build children and families’ resilience to external influences and promote sustained expansion of access to HIV prevention, treatment and care. Applying the UNICEF vision to developing and delivering HIV programs in fragile and humanitarian settings is particularly important to ensure that high-risk and emergency groups always receive help when they need it most. nine0003

#STOPHIVAIDS

The population of Russia is more than
146 million people.
Of these, about
900,000 people are living with HIV.

Dear friends!

Welcome to the official website of the IX All-Russian Awareness and Educational Campaign “Stop HIV/AIDS”.

In 2021, it will take place from November 29 to December 1 and is timed to coincide with World AIDS Day. Due to the unstable epidemiological situation caused by the coronavirus infection Covid-19, for the second year in a row, many events of the Promotion are held online. The new format allows expanding the audience of participants through the use of the latest digital technologies, and makes it easy for Internet users from remote regions of our country to join the Promotion. Live broadcasts from all platforms of the Promotion are posted on the website stopwichspeed.rf and the online platform online.fondsci.ru.

Every year the Stop HIV/AIDS campaign affects more and more layers of Russian society. The level of awareness of the population is growing and reaches 80% during the period of events. However, the problem of the spread of HIV infection remains relevant for our country. Today in Russia there are more than 900,000 people are living with HIV positive status.

Children are the future of our country. For the correct and timely informing of the youth audience, it is important not only to have a direct dialogue with children and adolescents, but also to draw the attention of parents and teachers to the problem of HIV infection. To implement this approach, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation will hold an All-Russian webinar for specialists from educational organizations on organizing and conducting preventive work with students. nine0003

Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, where on December 1 – World AIDS Day – the Open Student Forum “Let’s Stop AIDS Together!” will be held, the theme of which will be the 40th anniversary of the HIV epidemic.

One of the most important tasks set by our Campaign is to eliminate any discrimination based on a positive HIV status. At the heart of the stigma against HIV-infected people is the lack of necessary knowledge about this disease, and we also want to fill this gap. During the Campaign, hotlines of the Ministry of Health and Rospotrebnadzor will operate, through which residents of our country will be able to ask questions and receive accurate and up-to-date answers. nine0003

And, of course, everyone can find out their status by taking an HIV test.

Dear friends! By joining our efforts, we have achieved a lot, but we should not stop there. It is important to keep working to find new effective methods to fight HIV infection and stop its spread.

I wish everyone to be active, not indifferent, to be careful and attentive to their health and the health of their loved ones.

Dear friends!

On behalf of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and on my own behalf, I welcome you to the official website of the All-Russian Action “Stop HIV/AIDS”! nine0003

The spread of HIV infection is not only a medical, but also a social problem, for the solution of which comprehensive awareness of the population is extremely important, because this is the first step towards protection against infection. It is thanks to the Foundation for Social and Cultural Initiatives that the action not only draws attention to this problem, but also continues to gather every year everyone who is not indifferent in order to prevent the spread of HIV infection.

With the emergence and spread of a new coronavirus infection, the pandemic has become the most discussed topic in the information space, overshadowing other pain points, including those related to HIV/AIDS. However, thanks to such actions, we return everyone’s attention to the topic of HIV infection and AIDS, provide every citizen with access to complete and reliable information about the ways of HIV transmission, measures to protect against infection, the importance of early detection of the human immunodeficiency virus and early treatment, as well as the inadmissibility stigmatization and discrimination of people with HIV infection. nine0003

Combating the spread of HIV infection in our country is one of the state priorities. The systemic measures taken by the Government of the Russian Federation have made it possible to achieve positive changes in the fight against this disease. Thanks to the development and implementation of the State Strategy to Combat the Spread of HIV Infection of the Federation, we annually observe a steady trend in the epidemiological situation.

I congratulate you on the start of the All-Russian action “Stop HIV/AIDS” and wish all the participants of the action strength and inspiration for such a necessary work. I urge you to use this week to get tested for HIV infection and once again pay attention to the need to follow simple rules for the prevention of this disease. Health to you and your loved ones! nine0003

Dear friends!

This year is the ninth All-Russian Campaign “STOP HIV/AIDS” and has become a traditional event on the eve of World AIDS Day (December 1). The purpose of this Action is to mobilize the public, the media and all citizens for active work preventing the spread of HIV. AIDS Day is of particular importance due to the fact that this year the attention of society is largely focused on the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, which does not give a reason to forget about HIV infection. nine0003

Despite the emergence of new effective drugs and increasing availability of HIV treatment, the spread of HIV infection remains one of the major global challenges facing the international community and national health in the 21st century. At present, the country maintains a downward trend in the rate of increase in the incidence of HIV infection with an increase in the number of examinations.

Currently, the Russian Federation has put into effect an updated State Strategy to Combat the Spread of HIV Infection in Russia for the period up to 2030, and budget allocations for screening the population for HIV infection and for the treatment of Russian citizens living with HIV are constantly increasing. nine0003

However, even the latest technologies cannot solve the problems of infection control without the active participation of the population, strict adherence to recommendations on the use of methods of individual prevention of HIV infection. And we hope that all participants in the events related to the World AIDS Day will make their maximum contribution to them, which will ultimately lead to a further reduction in the incidence of HIV / AIDS in the Russian Federation and other countries.

In the coming decade, the Russian Federation and other countries have a global task: to stop the HIV epidemic by 2030.
