‎Google Family Link on the App Store

Description

Whether your children are younger or in their teens, the Family Link app lets you set digital ground rules to help guide them as they learn, play and explore online. For children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your country), Family Link also lets you create a Google Account for your child that’s like your account, with access to most Google services. You can:

Guide them to good content
• View their activity – Not all screen time is the same. Help your child make healthy decisions about what they do on their Android device, with activity reports showing how much time they’re spending on their favourite apps.
• Manage their apps – Handy notifications let you approve or block apps that your child wants to download from the Google Play Store. You can also manage in-app purchases, and hide specific apps on their device.
• Feed their curiosity – It can be hard to work out which apps are right for your child, so Family Link shows you teacher-recommended apps on Android that you can add directly to their device.

Keep an eye on screen time
• Set limits – It’s up to you to decide the right amount of screen time for your child. Family Link lets you set time limits and a bedtime for their supervised devices, so that you can help them find a good balance.
• Lock their device – Whether it’s time to go play outside, have dinner or just spend time together, you can remotely lock a supervised device whenever it’s time to take a break.

See where they are
• It’s helpful to be able to find your child when they’re on the go. You can use Family Link to help locate them as long as they’re carrying their Android devices.

Important Information
• Family Link’s tools vary depending on your child’s device. See a list of compatible devices at families.google.com/familylink/setup
• While Family Link helps you manage your child’s purchases and downloads from Google Play, they will not need approval to install app updates (including updates that expand permissions), apps you have previously approved or apps that have been shared in Family Library. Parents should regularly review their child’s installed apps and app permissions in Family Link.
• You should carefully review the apps on your child’s supervised device and disable those you don’t want them to use. Please note that you may not be able to disable some pre-installed apps.
• To see the location of your child’s or teenager’s device, it must be powered on, recently active and connected to the Internet.
• Teacher-recommended apps are only available on Android devices in the US to parents of children of certain ages.

Family link for children not in appstore

My son using iphone. There is no google family link for children in appstore so cannot install in his iphone. So sad because this is very good app to monitor & control child’s phone compared to others.

Good apps to control schedules and download

It is better if you could update the apps with volume control or mute/unmute. Bcz you know..kids tend to put full volume until your neighbour can hear it 🙄

App Disfuntioned

I happened about 2 months already. I can’t control the daily limit & bedtime for my son’s phone.. When i locked his phone, it will self unlocked. The daily limit has been set to unlimited even I have set only for 5 hours daily , & I cannot undo that. I cant set limit for his phone through my phone using family link app. I really hope that your team can fix this problem in your next update

Having children in the age of technology presents parents with many challenges. One of the largest is making sure your loved ones are safe and healthy by limiting their time staring at a screen. It’s also essential to monitor and restrict what they are doing during that time. With Screen Time, you can check your family’s device usage.

There are two ways you can set up Screen Time controls for your child: through Family Sharing and directly on a device.

How to set up Screen Time for your child through Family Sharing

With Family Sharing, you create an Apple ID for your kids. In doing so, all family members can share their Apple purchases such as apps, music, and books. In addition, with Family Sharing, you can set Screen time rules for each family member to be confident that everyone has settings that fit their needs and lifestyle.

To add a child account to family sharing, check out our How to create and add a child to Family Sharing article.

After you’ve added your child’s account to Family Sharing on one of the best iPhones or best iPads, you can control their Screen Time settings by doing the following.

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap on your Apple ID.
  3. Choose Family Sharing.
  4. Select Screen Time.
  5. Follow the instructions to create your child’s Apple ID.

How to set up Screen Time for your child directly on a device

Though Family Sharing is a great tool, it isn’t for everyone. If you’d prefer not to give your child an Apple ID just yet and would instead like to set up Screen Time directly on your child’s device, you can do that as well. Here’s how.

  1. Launch Settings.
  2. Tap Screen Time. You’ll see a list of insights that Screen Time provides.
  3. Select Continue.

  1. Tap This is My Child’s iPhone/iPad to set up Screen Time on this device for a child. You can then set a Downtime (i.e., a chunk of time — say, nighttime — when you don’t want them using their device).
  2. Choose Start.
  3. Select a start time.
  4. Tap Start again. Do the same for the End time.
  5. Choose Set Downtime to save your settings.

  1. Set your child’s App Limits (the amount of time per day that you want your kiddo to spend on certain categories of apps). For instance, if you only want them to spend 30 minutes per day playing games, then tap Games to select that category. Then scroll down to the bottom to where it says Time Amount, enter 30 minutes, then tap Set App Limit. You can set limits on as many individual app categories as you like or set an umbrella time for all apps.

  1. Tap Continue after reviewing Content & Privacy controls.
  2. Create a four-digit Parent Passcode using the numerical keyboard. Your child’s device will require this passcode to allow for more time or to change any Screen Time settings.
  3. Re-enter the passcode.

That’s it! The Screen Time settings on your child’s device are now in place. If you ever want to make any changes, you’ll need to launch Screen Time using the first two steps in the tutorial above and then enter your Parent Passcode.

How to set communication limits for your child

Screen Time on the iPhone 13 and other mobile devices include the ability to create communication limits. These limits, which you can set for yourself and your children, apply to Phone, FaceTime, Messages, and iCloud contacts.

  1. Launch the Settings app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap Screen Time.
  3. Under Family, tap your child’s name.
