Childtime of Mechanicsville, VA

Welcome to Our School

I’d like to welcome you to our wonderful Childtime educational daycare in Mechanicsville, VA! My name is Tami and I am the school director. I have more than 30 years of experience in early childhood education. I have also been the director at this location for 21 years. Our school offers Infant Care, Preschool and a variety of other early education programs. I enjoy personally interacting with all our families and staff on a daily basis. I value the relationships built among the children, parents and staff, and I know that the children in our center are receiving the highest level of quality care in the area.

We have long term staff, and most of our teachers have been here more than seven years. Our facility’s open-door policy, special events and warm atmosphere allow all family members the opportunity to become part of the Childtime community.

We’re committed to keeping you connected throughout the day while your child is in our care. Get access to live streaming video of your child’s classroom, plus other real-time updates, with our exclusive mobile app for families, SproutAbout.

We feel proud knowing that we are the leaders in education as the beginning steps for each child’s success. Give us a call or stop by to schedule a tour of our Childtime in Mechanicsville, VA today! We look forward to meeting you!

We love this school because of the staff! From the director to the teacher we always feel welcome and loved. It shows that they truly care about my child and others.

Incredibly positive. It seems like our daughter, after only one week, is comfortable going here based on her demeanor during drop-off and pick-up. The atmosphere is so inviting and the facilities seem incredibly clean which we greatly appreciate. The proactive communication is excellent-from greetings upon entering to pictures throughout the day, along with the daily reports…all of which are

top notch. Thank you!

  • Richmond – Travel Guide, Photos, Attractions

Richmond belongs to the province of British Columbia and is considered one of the fastest growing cities in Canada. It attracts tourists with its local color, picturesque nature and a large number of shopping centers.

    Where is Richmond located?

Much of the city is located on Lulu Island, between two branches of the crystal clear Fraser River, which flow into the bay. Nearby landmasses also belong to Richmond, including Sea Island, where Vancouver International Airport is located.

The western part of Richmond is washed by the Pacific Ocean, on this coast there is a small port. The settlement also borders on such cities as:

    • Burnaby and Vancouver – in the north;
    • Delta – in the south;
    • New Westminster – to the east.

    General Information

Richmond is one of the 21 municipal cities in Greater Vancouver and is ranked 4th in size. Its area is 129.3 sq. km, and the highest point lies at an altitude of 12 m above sea level. On the territory of the settlement there are a large number of parks, and in its vicinity there are beautiful forests.

Despite the fact that urban structures have now been erected on the site of former farmlands, the state was able to save 40% of the land for agriculture. Today, Richmond is the number one cranberry grower in North America and the number one blueberry grower in British Columbia.

    City of Richmond population

According to the last census in 2016, the number of local residents is 198309 people. Mostly people from Taiwan, China and Japan live here, who were among the first to settle in this territory. They were able to preserve their national traditions and religion. The official language, however, is English.

Recently, a large number of Russian-speaking immigrants have appeared in Richmond. Almost every school has a class where their children study. Also here you can meet representatives of 3 Indian tribes.

Tourists should be careful: since 2007, youth gangs have appeared in the city, which commit robberies and armed attacks. Conflicts arise because of a profitable business – the production and sale of a synthetic drug.

    Historical information

Initially, the Salish tribe lived on the territory of the modern city and was engaged in fishing. They led a nomadic life and had no permanent settlements. In 1860, the first settlers arrived here, giving the area its modern name.

They cleared forests, dug ditches, built dams, and drained marshes so that they could grow cereals, vegetables, and other crops. Gold was discovered on the Fraser River, thanks to which the city began to grow rapidly and be populated. It was declared a colony of British Columbia, and in 1870 it was given the status of a municipality.

    Climate

Richmond has a maritime climate with an average air temperature of +10°C. July is considered the warmest month, at this time the mercury column exceeds +25 ° C. It reaches its minimum in January and is equal to +3 °C.

In winter, the city receives a significant amount of precipitation, especially in December, when the average is 198 mm. The driest month is July – 36 mm.

    Where is it?

Surrey is one of the fastest growing and culturally diverse cities in Canada.

The city is located in the west of Canada in the province of British Columbia.

    Surrey on the map

    Population

According to the latest census data, in 2016 the population was 517,887, which is 10.6% more than in 2011. This made it the 12th largest city in Canada, as well as the fifth largest city in Western Canada (after Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver).

The city is characterized by low population density and strong suburbanization, which is generally typical of cities in North America.

Surrey is an integral part of Greater Vancouver as it is the second largest city in the region, although it is also the minor economic core of the metropolitan area. Combined with Vancouver, both cities make up nearly 50% of the region’s population. In recent years, the rapidly expanding urban center in downtown Surrey, located in Wally, has turned the area into a secondary city center in Metro Vancouver.

Immigration to Surrey has increased dramatically since the 1980s; this resulted in a more ethnically and linguistically diverse city. 52% do not speak English as their first language, and just over 30% of the city’s residents are of South Asian origin.

Beginning in the 1990s, an influx of South Asians began moving into the city from neighboring Vancouver due to rising house prices and rapidly increasing rents for businesses.

Surrey has one of the largest concentrations of South Asians in North America.

    Centers

The city is polycentric. There are six city centers in Surrey:

Valley – Surrey city center is located here.

Four SkyTrain stations are located here: Scott Road, Gateway, Surrey Central, and King George.

The Valley has a population of 78,500. It has a recreation center and the second largest library in British Columbia.

Newton Most people living in Surrey live in Newton.

More than half of the population is considered a visible minority, predominantly Sikhs.

Surrey City Hall, Courthouse and Surrey RCMP Station are located here.

    91,595 people live here.

Guildford is the city center in northeast Surrey.

Known for its 200 store Guildford Town Center, it is one of Canada’s largest malls.

49,300 people live in Guildford. This place is connected by rail to New Westminister.

Fleetwood is a city center in East Surrey.

The Surrey Public Library and Community Center is located in Fleetwood.

In addition, there are beautiful parks, natural areas, trails and many playgrounds.

Cloverdale has a rodeo, the second largest rodeo in Canada after the Calgary Stampede.

South Surrey – Bordered by the city of White Rock to the southwest and Blaine, Washington, USA to the south. The Douglas Peace Arch border crossing is located in South Surrey.

South Surrey is known for its parks, beaches, forests and recreational areas. Many older people prefer this place. And here is the largest concentration of people over 60 years old.

There is also Crescent Beach and an Indian reserve. 53 9 live in the city80 people.

    History

Surrey took shape as a settlement by 1879, becoming the center of a land inhabited by several Halcomel-speaking Indian tribes. The following incident led to the appearance of the toponym “Surrey” on the map: when the Englishman H. J. Braver crossed the Fraser River from New Westminster, the landscape he saw reminded him of his native Surrey in England. The lands were then covered with forests, which were dominated by pseudo-hemlock, fir, thuja folded and hemlock with blackberries in the undergrowth and cranberry bogs. Part of what is now Walley (named after Harry Walley, owner of the land and former owner of a gas station on King George Boulevard (formerly King George Highway) was then used as a burial site by the Kwantlen people.

The settlers who came to the town from Cloverdale and parts of South Surrey were mainly engaged in farming, fishing, growing oysters or opening small shops. The development of Surrey began with the construction of the Patullo Bridge in 1937.

In the post-war 1950s, the northern suburbs of Surrey were built up with single-family houses, which led to the transformation of Surrey (still without city status) into a bedroom suburb inhabited by people who worked in Burnaby and Vancouver.

In the 1980s and 90s, Surrey experienced unprecedented growth, mainly due to the massive immigration of people from other parts of Canada from other countries. Surrey is projected to overtake Vancouver in terms of population by 2020-2030.

    Weather / climate

Surrey has an oceanic climate (Cfb) typical of the coastal Pacific Northwest: rainy, humid winters, often with heavy rainfall, continuing into early spring.

Winters are cool but not cold, summers are mild and sunny, and autumns are cool and cloudy.

The city’s terrain alternates between flat and gently undulating areas, with most of the plains found in the areas of Tyinhaed, Hazelmer, Coalbrook and southern Cloverdale.

    Economy

Surrey is one of the largest industrial centers in British Columbia, with a rapidly growing high-tech, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, agriculture and arts sectors.

As a result of increased filming activity in Surrey, 189 films were filmed in 2017productions.

Surrey opened North America’s first $68 million biofuel plant in 2018.

Approximately a third of Surrey’s land is preserved and designated as farmland, which is being used for local food production to serve the city’s growing population, as well as to increase employment opportunities through the creation of local jobs.

Agriculture continues to revitalize Surrey’s economy, employing 3,300 people or 1.6% of Surrey’s total workforce.

Manufacturing is also a highly diversified sector with products for mature and emerging industries ranging from lumber cutting for various British Columbia logging operations to wind turbine construction.

The health sector is a significant contributor to Surrey’s economy. The city is home to nearly 900 health-related businesses.
