Black Americans not only settled the area, but flourished in it, turning it into a densely populated and economically strong area. The black people who lived in the area called Seatac made many historic achievements in the secluded Princess Anne County, including raising funds to build schools for their children (namely, the Princess Anne County Training School – 1938, among other schools), beginning with one of the first black-owned fire stations in East Virginia (Sitaka Fire Department), because the black area was not served by the Church-building Princess Anne County Fire and Rescue Department at the time (Mount Olive Baptist, St. Church of God in Christ (COGIC) for worship and later, after the passage of the civil rights laws of 1964 and 1968, in the parks and recreation center, and in the community. kindergarten center. ^{[1] [3]} In 1985, Mr. Joseph W. Grimsted, Sr., an African American Seatack businessman and civic leader and president of Seatack Community Properties, Inc., set aside land for the construction of Seatack Community and Recreation Center. The current institution opened on April 19, 1997. ^{[2] [4]} On October 15, 2011, the Seatak Civic League celebrated its 200th anniversary. It was the first major African American community event ever held in the city of Virginia Beach and the first major event held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center by African Americans. Bishop Barnett K. Thorugud, who was a Pentecostal Church of God in Christ Pastor and leader of the Sitaka Church, also held a memorial service there on February 10, 2012 and set a new attendance record for an African American event with over 4,000 people. On January 7, 2012, the City of Virginia Beach named the city’s first building in honor of African American Joseph W. Grimsted, Sr. Seatak Recreation Center, on the site of the old Seatak Fire Station. Most recently, on June 25, 2012, Mayor William D. Sessoms, along with dignitaries of Sitek and Seatak Civic League officials, inaugurated the Seatak College Funding Office at 141 South Birdneck Road in the home of Joseph W. Grimsted, Sr. Seatak. Community recreation center. ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]}

  In 1915, the US Lifeguard Service became the US Coast Guard. Seatac Station (built in 1903 to replace an earlier structure) is now a museum on 24th Street adjacent to the Virginia Beach boardwalk. The area’s life saving history along the Cemetery of the Atlantic shoreline is commemorated at the Virginia Beach Surf and Rescue Museum which houses artifacts from the shipwreck The Dictator , displays of historic rescue equipment, educational programs. The museum also has a webcam that shows Internet users a point of view similar to that of members of the rescue teams over 100 years ago.[1]

  The Virginia Beach Surf and Rescue Museum was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

  Another surviving Coast Guard station was on Little Island, located south of Sandbridge, Virginia. It belongs to the city of Virginia Beach. However, the Little Island Coast Guard Station is not open to the public.

  In 2019, Seatack received its official historic landmark poster, acknowledging that Seatack has become a model for growth in the African American community.
