Day hospital – when and for whom

Along with outpatient and inpatient types of treatment, the provision of medical care in day hospitals is becoming more widespread. This is a kind of intermediate option between outpatient treatment and inpatient treatment. A day hospital is organized to carry out therapeutic and diagnostic measures for diseases and conditions that do not require round-the-clock medical supervision.
General indications for hospitalization in a day hospital

The following patients can be referred for treatment in the day hospital of the polyclinic:

with acute diseases and exacerbations of chronic diseases that do not require round-the-clock monitoring;
-
patients registered at the dispensary for chronic diseases for a course of preventive or rehabilitation treatment;
-
citizens who do not require round-the-clock monitoring due to their health, but require the provision of medical services in a hospital setting, for example, when using therapeutic agents, after the use of which medical supervision must be carried out for a certain time due to possible adverse reactions;
-
in need of intravenous drip administration of drugs;
-
in need of complex treatment using physiotherapy, massage, physiotherapy exercises, after which rest is necessary, as well as with the introduction of medicines in various ways at regular intervals.
Procedure for admission to a day hospital
A referral to a day hospital is issued by primary care physicians. Hospitalization is carried out in a planned manner. When admitted to a day hospital, the patient must first be examined by a day hospital doctor, since the treatment plan (start date of treatment, duration of treatment, examination methods, time of arrival and duration of stay in a day hospital, etc.) is determined by a day hospital doctor for each patient individually.
Before discharge from the day hospital, the final examination of the patient is carried out by the day hospital doctor, and, if necessary, by the polyclinic specialist who referred the patient to the day hospital. On the day the patient is discharged from the day hospital, the outpatient card is transferred to the attending physician through the registry with a completed epicrisis.
In cases where the necessary types of assistance are beyond the capabilities of a medical organization, the patient must be transferred to a medical organization with appropriate capabilities.
Conditions of stay in a day hospital
-
patients are accommodated in wards from 2 to 10 beds;
-
carrying out medical and diagnostic manipulations, drug provision is carried out from the moment the patient enters the hospital;
-
the attending physician is obliged to inform the patient, and in cases of treatment of minors under the age of 15 years, his parents or legal representatives about the course of treatment, prognosis, and the necessary individual regimen.
The total amount of medical care provided in the day hospital
-
Intramuscular, subcutaneous and intravenous injections.
-
Intravenous infusions of medicinal solutions.

Observation and treatment of patients who completed inpatient treatment and were discharged from the hospital early and received recommendations to complete therapy and rehabilitation in an active regimen.

Medical supervision of patients who have undergone simple surgical interventions in a hospital, after which they do not need round-the-clock medical supervision (for example, surgical treatment of benign neoplasms, intervention for an ingrown nail, uncomplicated phlegmon, panaritium, etc.).
The provision of medicines in the day hospital is free of charge,
according to the day hospital form approved by the head doctor within the established tariffs and in accordance with state guarantees.Denial of admission to a day hospital
In case of refusal to hospitalize, the day hospital doctor makes an entry in the register of admission of patients and refusals of hospitalization about the reasons for refusing hospitalization and the measures taken with a written acquaintance of the patient. In case of conflict situations, the patient has the right to contact the administration of the clinic.
