Gothic princess Winona Ryder: secret marriage to Keanu Reeves, prison and stolen Oscar

She was called the “nymph of the nineties” – perhaps there is no better definition for Winona Ryder.

Winona Ryder was the strongest actress of the “nineties” and “zero”. What can I say, she was nominated for an Oscar for two years in a row – for her roles in the films “The Age of Innocence” and “Little Women”. Film critics called Winona the greatest star, and on the “Walk of Fame” for more than 20 years, her name star flaunts.

What was the path of the actress? Once upon a time, Winona Horowitz could not have imagined that such a future awaited her. At first, acting skills helped her avoid ridicule from classmates, and then allowed her to earn $ 350 thousand per episode in Stranger Things.

Winona was born into a family of writers and lived in a hippie commune

Winona Laura Horowitz was born October 29, 1971 in Winona, Minnesota. Her mother, Cynthia Palmer, was an editor, and her father, Michael D. Horowitz, was a famous poet. On the paternal side, the future movie star was Ukrainian, Jewish and Romanian.

The name of the girl was given in honor of the city in which she was born, and Laura Huxley, the wife of the writer Aldous Huxley. The younger brother of Winona was named Uri – like the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin.

She didn’t get along well with her peers

As a child, Winona moved and changed schools frequently. The girl was often bullied by her peers – for some reason they mistook her for a boy. 12-year-old Horowitz found solace in art – she entered the American Theater Conservatory in San Francisco.

Winona Ryder hoped that after her film debut she would be left alone. However, after the release of the film “Beetlejuice” a new nickname was attached to her – “witch”. Fortunately, there were only a few months left before graduation from school, so the aspiring artist simply stopped paying attention to the spiteful critics.

In reality, Winona is a blonde

As a teenager, Winona, a blonde, began to dye her hair in bright colors. The actress decided to become a brunette before auditioning for a role in the film “Lucas”86 years old. The producers liked the image of the girl so much that they asked to leave everything unchanged.

Success awaited the actress in the “nineties”

After “Lucas” and “Beetlejuice” Winona got a few more ambiguous roles: the actress’s agents assured that some of the tapes of that time “will definitely destroy her career”, but Ryder’s performance mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers.

But already in the 1990s, Winona began with the main roles. The first went to her in the science fiction film “Edward Scissorhands”. Tim Burton, already familiar to her, became the director of the film, and her then-boyfriend Johnny Depp became a partner on the set. The girl received the second significant role in the Mermaid film – participation in the filming led Winona to a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Winona could have played in The Godfather

In 1990, another bright role could have appeared in Winona’s filmography. The girl was offered to take on the image of Mary Corleone in the third film from the saga “The Godfather” by Francis Ford Coppola. However, shortly before filming began, Ryder was diagnosed with nervous exhaustion and had to turn down the role.

Ryder was not only an actress – she was also a producer, announcer and film expert

A convincing and extraordinary actress received hundreds of applications from directors. Winona has appeared in Deadly Attraction, Dracula, The Age of Innocence, Little Women, and a host of other films that are now considered classics of sorts.

In 1998 everyone knew Winona Ryder’s name. The girl was respected not only for acting talent. She was on the jury at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, produced the film Interrupted Life, voiced the diaries of Anne Frank and worked with the best contemporary actors.

Without Winona there would be no “Girl, Interrupted”

Filming began at the insistence of Winona – she read the novel by Suzanne Kaysen and invited James Mangold to adapt it. Despite the fact that it was Ryder who received the main role in the resulting tape, all the awards – and the Oscar too – went only to Jolie.

Winona was arrested for theft

Only in 2001, Ryder began a four-year break in her career. She agreed only to guest roles and talk shows due to health problems (Winona was diagnosed with severe indigestion) and the law – in December 2001, the actress was arrested for intentional shoplifting. She managed to get off with corrective labor and a fine, but the reputation of the star was “tarnished” for a while.

She earns nearly half a million dollars for an episode of Stranger Things

In the mid-2000s, Winona Ryder was still in demand in Hollywood. It was then that the star discovered television: she was increasingly attracted to the serial format. Since 2016, Ryder has joined the cast of the sci-fi series Stranger Things, where she played the role of Joyce Byers, a single mother whose 12-year-old son mysteriously disappears. By the third season, Winona received not only several nominations for major awards, but also a good fee: she was entitled to 350 thousand dollars for one episode.

Winona has a permanent relationship

The personal life of an actress is also something like a movie. In July 1990, she and Johnny Depp announced their engagement – the actors began dating when Ryder was still a minor. However, love was not eternal: three years later, the relationship between Winona and Johnny broke up. From 1998 to 2000, the actress was with Matt Damon, and since 2011 she has been living with fashion designer Scott McKinley Khan.

Winona is still married to Keanu Reeves

It may seem strange, but in fact Winona has a husband – and this is Keanu Reeves. On the set of Dracula, the actors were really married by a real Romanian priest. The stars love to remember this fact and are even proud that they chose each other as their spouses.

How do you like Winona Ryder? Do you consider her a great contemporary actress?

Winona Laura Horowitz was born in the city of the same name in Minnesota, USA. Her parents were Jewish emigrants from Russia and Romania who made their living through literary activities.

Place of birth: Winona, Minnesota, USA

since 1978 since 1978 since 1978 Seven-year-old Winona lived with her family in the Rainbow agricultural community near Elk, northern California. There was no electricity and other benefits of civilization, so young Horowitz became seriously interested in reading.

When the future actress was ten years old, her parents moved to Petaluma, California. The girl received a home education, as at school she was often beaten, mistaking for a boy.

Since 1983, 12-year-old Winona has taken acting classes at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. In addition, she studied at the Petaluma High School, which she graduated in 1989 with high marks in academic performance.

Three years later, Ryder had her first screen test for Desert Flower, but did not pass. However, thanks to the Triad artists agency, she was invited to play in the new project of director David Seltzer “Lucas”. Then in the career of a young actress there was a role in the film “Quadrille”, as well as Tim Burton’s comedy “Beetlejuice” and the film “1969”.

In 1989, Ryder starred in the film “Deadly Attraction”, which caused a mixed reaction from film critics, but became a cult among teenagers. The role in the film “Fireballs” brought her the first professional award of the Young Artist Awards.

Ryder’s role in Burton’s “Edward Scissorhands” also turned out to be successful, which made a big jackpot at the box office. And the picture “Mermaids”, where Cher and Christina Ricci also played, brought her a Golden Globe nomination in the category “Best Supporting Actress”.

Also among the successful works of the actress are Jim Jarmusch’s film “Night on Earth” (1991), “Dracula by Bram Stoker” by Francis Coppola (1992) and the film adaptation of the novel by Isabelle Allende “House of the Spirits” (1993), where she found herself on the same platform with Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Glenn Close and Antonio Banderas.

For her performance in Martin Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence (1993), Winona received a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. The film “Little Women” again brought her an Oscar nomination a year later.

In 1995, Ryder voiced the diary of Anne Frank, receiving a Grammy nomination. Two years later, the actress appeared in an unusual role for herself, taking part in the filming of the film “Alien 4: Resurrection” with Sigourney Weaver. A year later, the talented girl even became a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 1999, Winona brilliantly coped with the role in the drama “Girl, Interrupted”, where she also acted as an executive producer. A year later, the actress starred in the melodrama Autumn in New York with Richard Gere, which was smashed to smithereens by critics and even received a nomination for the Golden Raspberry anti-award.

After a long hiatus, Ryder appeared in 2006 in Richard Linklater’s animated film The Blurred, based on the novel by Philip K. Dick. In January 2007, at the Sundance Film Festival, premieres of Ryder’s comedies “Darwin Award” and “The Ten Commandments”, as well as “Sex and 101 Deaths” took place.

In 2010, Winona appeared in the television movie When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story, for which she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. A year later, she played with Darren Aronofsky in the Black Swan film. In 2014, the premiere of the film with her participation “Home Front” took place, where Ryder joined James Franco and Jason Statham. From 1989 to 1993, Ryder dated Johnny Depp from 1989 to 1993. Ryder later maintained a relationship with Soul Asylum’s Dave Pirner and was engaged to Matt Damon, whom she was with since 1998 to 2000.

He was born to the Kasubsky village BORZK He was the first of ten children born to Franciszek and Marianne Darzin Cieminski, who emigrated from Prussia. Poland (Kashubia) to the United States in 1881 on the steamer Grimsby, making him a member of the Kashubian diaspora. [1] A modest peasant boy’s fifty-one years as a Roman Catholic priest took him from archdiocesan secretary to parish priest in a Polish colony on the Minnesota border, and from troubleshooter in Minneapolis to respected patriarch of the Kashubian Polish community Winona. Born in Kashubia and educated in America, Father Joseph F. Cieminski has demonstrated the hard work and achievements of the American Kashubian Pole community throughout his long and successful life.

Young Jozef studied in the schools of Winona until he entered the seminary. He was then ordained at Saint Paul in 1895. Father Tseminsky’s first appointment was the position of secretary to the reverend. John Ireland, [2] first Archbishop of St. Paul. The hard-headed Archbishop of Ireland did not bow down to Eastern Europeans or Poles in particular. But soon the talents of Father Tseminsky were needed elsewhere. His first parish assignment transferred him to St. Stanislaus Kostka in the newly created Diocese of Winona, where he served as assistant pastor to Father Jakub W.J. Pacholski. The fact that the Archbishop of Ireland sent his secretary from the diocese to work alongside the extremely capable Father Pacholski suggests that the turmoil at St. Stanislaus was more significant than the available information would indicate.

    Vilna, Minnesota

Father Ceminsky’s next appointment in Vilna, Minnesota returned him to the Archdiocese of St. Paul. The Polish colony at Wilno was founded in 1883 under the auspices of the Archdiocese and the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. This represented an attempt to funnel part-time Polish-American townspeople into the wide open western expanses of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul; In a recent article by John Radzilowski, Wilno is seen as a model of Polish-American farm life. Radzilovsky also chronicles the archbishop of Ireland’s clumsy attempts to control Vilna. The parish of St. John Kantius replacing the popular Polish-speaking priest with an unfortunate Bohemian priest who (solely because of his ethnicity) was kicked out of the parish after some time. [3]

From 1896 to 1902 Father Jan Andrzejewski worked to build for St. leave immediately before the consecration of the building in opposition (according to the Parish Jubilee Book of 1983) for the church organ. Arriving in 1902, Father Tseminsky restored the parish to order, despite the fact that Father Andrezeevsky remained in Vilna for quite a long time. At 19In 06, Father Ceminsky also hired the school sisters of St. Francis of Rochester (otherwise known as the Rochester Franciscans) to staff St. John Cantius Primary School. In 1907, Father Tseminsky was recalled by the diocese of Winona as pastor of St. Casimir’s Church in Wells, Minnesota; His three years in the small town of Faribo County did not appear to be without some major problems.

    Duluth

In 1910 Father Tseminsky moved to Duluth, Minnesota to pastor the troubled parish of Saints Peter and Paul (now closed). Duluth’s Second Polish Catholic Church became a battlefield between the Diocese of Duluth and a group of “independent” parishioners determined to bring it into the Polish National Catholic Church. [5] A group of “independents” had already split from Duluth’s first Polish Catholic church, St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, resulting in the founding of St. Joseph’s Polish National Church in 1907. The lawsuit for Saints Peter and Paul was won, but Father Tseminsky had to spend the next five years putting the parish of Saints Peter and Paul in order.

    Minneapolis

In 1915 Father Tseminsky moved to another problematic place – Holy Cross Parish in Minneapolis, founded in 1886 by his mentor and friend Father Pacholsky. The Holy Cross was in turmoil for several years because of a scandal that may have involved its longtime pastor, Father Heinrich Yazdzewski. Sensing an opportunity, a faction of “independents” had already broken away from the Holy Cross and founded the Polish National Church of the Sacred Heart. Another such faction arose that tried to capture the Holy Cross itself.

Agreeing with him (Monsignor Pacholski) but dissatisfied with the new pastor, the archbishop replaced him with Father Joseph Ceminsky of Duluth. Cieminski, who started his career at Winona and ended there much later, had a reputation as a troubleshooter. Intelligent, shrewd and impressive in body and posture, he firmly took control in 1915 and remained at Holy Cross until 1932.

On March 4, 1916, Father Tseminski’s task became even more difficult when Father Yazdzewski was shot dead in the parish of St. Casimir in Minneapolis by a former parishioner of the Holy Cross. [6] Once again Father Tseminski successfully healed the congregation and brought it back safely.

    Winona

In 1932 Father Cieminsky, who is now 65 years old, succeeded the late Father Pacholsky as pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Winona. For the first time in his career as a priest, Father Tseminsky faced the enviable task of building on an already solid foundation. Having successfully filled the most difficult positions that the three separate dioceses of Minnesota could find for him, he easily followed in the gigantic footsteps of Father Pacholsky.
