Unusual bridge opened in Venice: May 11, 2019, 03:33
Italian Lorenzo Quinn presented his new sculpture “Building Bridges” in Venice, Tengrinews.kz reports with reference to the artist’s press service.
The work of art consists of six pairs of gigantic arms that hang over the Venetian Arsenal in the form of a bridge. Its height is 15 meters and its width is 20 meters. The “bridge” is located in the Castello area – a medieval shipyard, which is considered one of the key attractions of the city.
Through his work, the author encourages people to pay attention to common values and meet each other, overcome differences, build bridges both from a geographical point of view and from a philosophical, cultural and emotional point of view.
“Humanity does not grow by creating barriers. It has always grown by opening its borders and welcoming new cultures. Venice is a testament to this. The city opened routes to Asia, to the Far East thanks to Marco Polo and merchants. It has always been the driving force behind European growth. Venice “This is a World Heritage City and a city of bridges. This is the perfect place to tell humanity about the ideas of unity and peace and encourage more people around the world to build bridges instead of building walls and barriers,” the Italian sculptor emphasized.
The sculpture was unveiled as part of the 58th Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art. The opening ceremony was attended by the world famous pianist Lola Astanova, the Mayor of Venice and the Italian singer Andrea Bocelli.
“Each pair of hands symbolizes one of the six universal values: friendship – to create the future together; wisdom – to make mutually beneficial decisions; help – to strengthen long-term relationships; faith – a symbol of trust in one’s heart; hope – to continue important undertakings; love – fundamental the purpose of it all,” Quinn explained.

Lorenzo Quinn, an Italian artist, has received wide recognition thanks to his works presented all over the world. He is the son of famous actor, Oscar winner Anthony Quinn. The artist reveals the themes of love and relationships through very unusual forms, including depicting giant human hands.
Lorenzo Quinn
His sculpture “Support”, also created in Venice, became the most photographed work of art in 2017. Then, through the image of giant human hands, he tried to call people to a delicate coexistence. He believes that hands are just a tool that can either destroy the world or save it, for example, from climate change.
The sculpture represents two hands emerging from the water of the canal and “holding” the building. As conceived by the artist, the work was to draw attention to climate change, which threatens, among other things, to flood Venice.

Grotto. The school has created a complex developmental space for children with visual impairment “Garden of Sensations”. In the garden, everything is built on the emotions and sensations that children experienced when they walked through the park, here you can hear the sound of falling water, smell the herbs. The garden is divided into 12 zones, each of which is equipped with a mnemonic diagram in Braille. On the site “King of the Hill” the children overcame obstacles, and after walking along the “Dry River”, they felt how the pebbles crunched and the suspension bridge swayed. Examined and touched the display cases with stones and branches, as well as played the xylophones and trumpets used for non-verbal communication.
