Just Like Mommy Childcare Center

Just Like Mommy Childcare Center was founded in February 2008 by Tangie and Michael Cokes. Tangie had always wanted to be an entrepreneur, and after being laid off from her job at a Fortune 500 company, she was able to do so. The company’s first location was on Becher Street in West Allis, and by 2010, it had grown to three.

In 2014, the painful choice was taken to close the north side facility in order to better manage all locations; nonetheless, doing so allowed the staff to focus their efforts on making Just Like Mommy Childcare Centers a place of excellence. Its facilities are varied. Families from various walks of life come to them for help.

The crew is made up of both young and old people, and many of them are multilingual. Thousands of children and hundreds of families have benefited from their services, and many of them return to see them on a regular basis. The goal is to collaborate with parents in order to make their life a little easier.

Research shows intergenerational care can give children a developmental advantage of 10-12 months, both in learning skills and in emotional intelligence, over their peers from traditional daycares.

Children’s Programs Offered, by Age:

St. Ann Center’s experienced, caring staff provides the support and security children need at every step of their development. For infants and toddlers, newly aware of themselves and others, that’s the security, and a sense that their world is a caring place. For preschoolers, it’s loving and guidance as they start to to establish friendships and prepare for academic learning. Schoolchildren, working hard in class, need time to exercise and support for academic learning, and challenging activities. Young adolescents, looking to the future, get the mentoring to ground them in skills needed to seek a first job or a scholarship.

St. Ann Center understands what a gift babies are! When your family is ready to take the step into childcare, you can feel good knowing that St. Ann Center’s teachers are here to help your baby feel loved and secure while exploring and learning about themselves and the world around them.

Your child is ready to begin growing to their greatest potential through social, academic, physical, and creative activities, from swimming to the ABCs. Our curriculum celebrates each child’s uniqueness and incorporates regular intergenerational activity time with the adults in our care—music, stories, art projects, simple games and more.

Before- and After-school Care

Available during the school year, with breakfast available before 8 a.m., and transportation to or from schools (Stein Campus). After-school care includes a nutritious snack and homework assistance, as well as regular swim time in our warm-water pool.

Summer Camp

Keep your school-age children safe, happy, and learning about everything from art to music to cooking to gardening all summer, with regular playtime indoors and out, swim time, new friends of all ages, and weekly field trips to fun and educational sites.

Camp is open Monday-Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost is $200/week ($40/day), with a $50/family registration fee. Wisconsin Shares accepted.

This service learning and mentoring program strengthens intergenerational relations and increases respect for diversity by connecting youth with seniors and adults with disabilities through a variety of activities. Youth will practice skills needed to obtain and keep a job, enhance self-esteem, learn to budget money, build decision-making skills, develop social skills, and more.

Childcare FAQs

The waitlist length can vary widely by both campus and age group; we recommend that parents (or parents-to-be) reach out to the campus they’re interested in at least a couple of months before they expect to need care for a child. At times, there may be no wait list in some classrooms.

Childcare rates vary by the child’s age and frequency of use; some families qualify for publicly subsidized care. Please call the childcare office at the campus you’re interested in to determine the rate for your child’s care.

The Buddy Program is a volunteer program for children ages 11-15 that mentors them, giving them a chance to practice future job skills and to interact regularly with older adults.
