Last fall, two of the world’s largest brands Disney and AVON launched a project for young designers Fashion Academy . According to the results of the creative competition, the jury selected 9 finalists who will take part in the television part of the project as part of the program “Rules of Style” on channel Disney . This is an opportunity for talented fashion designers to express themselves, create their own collections in front of millions of TV viewers and show them on a real podium. Under the guidance of the best experts in the Russian fashion industry, young designers will create clothing collections inspired by Disney, and the winner will get the chance to present their work in the Avon catalog.

On the eve of this event, we talked with an invited expert, the founder of the first Russian trendwatching agency Trendsquire Xenia Leri . A lecturer at the British Higher School of Design told Glamour about who can and cannot be considered trendsetters and what trends are really worth attention.

And here, of course, it is difficult to say which trends suit everyone, because, as you know, all girls are different.

Who do you think is the main fashion trendsetter today and why?

However, I would not say that she has a great influence on fashion, and despite her popularity and a large number of subscribers on social networks, I cannot call her the main trendsetters. Here I would like to quote the beautiful plus-size model Katya Zharkova . She tells and shows that you can have curvaceous and athletic body at the same time. A woman should not be a skinny skeleton. A beautiful girl can be completely different and remain original. This is the epitome of a trend.

Here I would like to mention, of course, famous girls from abroad, who also have a fairly strong influence. Among them, for example, the singer Beyoncé , she actively follows fashion and takes part in it, again, defending her right to the title of trendsetter with an unusual and non-standard figure. This, perhaps, is correct, because in our time non-standard is becoming the new norm and is welcomed. Any features of a person make him unique, make a girl attractive. We understand more and more that the unambiguous strict canons of beauty that have been imposed on us for several decades are outdated today. And boys don’t like standard girls, and girls don’t like standard boys.
