Perez rushed to the emergency room, where he was diagnosed with vibriosis and told that his life was in danger if he did not immediately undergo surgery. It took four operations. The threat to life was gone, but most of the flesh on the right leg had been removed. “I will never be the same again, I won’t be able to walk normally,” Perez said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 80,000 people are infected with vibriosis, caused by the Vibrio bacteria, which lives in coastal waters and increases in concentration from May to October when the water warms up. People usually become infected by eating undercooked or raw seafood, especially oysters, or through open wounds.

UBER SELF-RESOLVING

Uber Texas Communications Manager Travis Considine confirmed that Uber is winding down its Jump program in San Antonio and shutting down its scooter and e-bike business. “We will maintain an open dialogue with the City on how we can continue to work together to expand transportation options, and we thank the City for their dedication and attitude towards us,” the statement said.

Jump scooters and e-bikes debuted in San Antonio recently in January 2019. Over the past few years, especially after the launch of a six-month pilot program in October 2018, several competing companies have appeared in the city – Lyft, Spin, Lime, Razor , Blue Duck, Jump and Bird. The number of scooters in San Antonio began to cause dissatisfaction with the townspeople and disagreements between the authorities. The city council received numerous complaints. In May, the city council approved an amendment banning the use of scooters on sidewalks, arguing that scooters had become “dangerous for pedestrians.”

The San Antonio City Council will decide which three companies will be allowed to operate in the city with a total of 5,000 vehicles. The deadline for applications to be considered is July 22, 2019. A final decision and winners will be announced by October.
