Full-Time Or Part-Time Daycare? Ask These Questions Right Now
Categories: , Blog
Does your family need part-time or full-time daycare? According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), nearly 59 percent of children ages five and under were in some type of nonparental care arrangement at least once a week in 2019. If your child is ready to join the many infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in child care, take a look at the questions to ask before you set a full or part-time schedule.
What Is Your Typical Work Schedule?
If you only work half-days or a few days each week, you won’t necessarily need to put your child in care on a full-time schedule. But this doesn’t mean you have to choose part-time daycare. Your reduced hour or part-time schedule gives you options.
The number of hours you work per week may allow you to choose a partial-day or partial-week program and spend more time with your child or save money on the cost of care. While some parents do choose a care schedule that directly matches the hours they work, others don’t. Even though you don’t need to put your child in full-time care, you may still want to.
Do You Need Extra Time In Your Day?
How can a full-time care schedule help a parent who works part-time hours? Work isn’t the only thing that takes up time in your busy day. If you prefer not to bring your child to the grocery store, to the dentist for your bi-annual cleaning, or on your daily errands, consider a full-time child care schedule. This gives you the chance to get everything done efficiently—and provides your child with a fun-filled, educational way to spend their day.
Does Your Child Need An Easy Entry Into School?
Separation anxiety is an issue many families struggle with. If your child needs to warm up to the idea of full-day or full-week school, explore the part-time options. A modified care schedule gives your child the opportunity to feel more comfortable in the early childhood environment.
Does Your Child Enjoy a Social Setting?
Child care is more than a safe place for your toddler or preschooler to go while you are at work or school. Early childhood programs are social settings that can help your child to build crucial skills and make their first friends. If your child is always searching for someone else to play with or enjoys meeting new people, a full-time schedule provides more of the social types of activities they already enjoy.
If your child doesn’t absolutely adore socializing, a full-time schedule may still offer benefits. The more time your child spends with others, whether it’s with other children along or with adult staff members, the more chances they’ll have to build social skills.

There are at least seven types of kindergartens and three types of child’s stay in them. Everyone chooses what suits his family. In this article, our author talked about the pros and cons of visiting a public kindergarten on a part-time basis.
Sooner or later, almost every parent is faced with the choice of a kindergarten. There are many types of them. Kindergarten can be:
- Mixed. It includes several different groups. In such a kindergarten, there may be groups of general education, and with a certain bias (for example, with the study of English).
- Kindergarten for children with developmental problems (mental, physical).
- General developmental kindergarten. Usually, it is also built according to a certain system of development and has a focus on the development of children.
- Kindergarten of supervision and improvement.
- Child Development Center. They tend to take a holistic approach to child development.
- Kindergarten for round-the-clock stay of children. It is needed if the parents work on an irregular schedule.
- Progymnasium-preparation for school.
Sometimes it happens that parents decide to take their child to a part-time kindergarten for certain reasons. So it was with us. Initially, we planned to take the child for part-time only during the adjustment period, and then we liked this format of visiting. We left it permanently. I’ll tell you about the pros and cons that we had to face.

Cons
1. Finance. For staying in a kindergarten, you need to pay for the whole day if it is a state kindergarten.
2. In the nursery, you may have to face the dissatisfaction of the caregivers: when one child is taken away, it is difficult to calm the rest of the children. They are also waiting for their parents and start crying. Because of this, we were offered to send the child to a specialized kindergarten, where the stay is until 12.30 or until 13.00.
3. In order for a child to attend a childcare facility part-time, an application must be submitted, as the teacher is responsible for the child for the whole working day.
4. If you still plan to visit the kindergarten for the whole working day in the future, then it is better not to delay the process, because after some time it is already quite difficult for the child to stay. He keeps waiting for his parents at lunchtime, but they don’t come. The baby is frustrated. This can generally discourage the child from going to preschool.
Benefits part-time day in kindergarten
1. There is an opportunity to build a day in a way that is convenient for the whole family.
2. Daytime sleep may be later/earlier, longer/shorter. You may not sleep at all. Our daughter had such a problem that for a year she refused daytime sleep. Often I had to put it down for several hours, but it was all in vain. Then I just stopped doing it. Daughter went to sleep around 9hours of the evening. It was very convenient: then I could go about my business and relax, as she slept until the morning without waking up. When our third child was born, it became more convenient for me to take my daughter home at lunchtime, since she did not sleep during the day, and the night’s sleep of the daughter and the baby coincided. It was much easier for me to put them to bed at the same time and then rest.
3. More time to visit other events, circles and specialists.
4. More time together with your child. It is quality time when relatives play with the baby or do something interesting together.
In any case, every family is different and every child is special. Some of the children will easily stay in the round-the-clock kindergarten, and for some kids, even half a day in the garden will seem like an eternity.

How to choose a part-time kindergarten for a child?
Part-time group in kindergarten is an outlet for parents who are not ready to leave their child for the whole day. The visiting schedule may be different, for example, from 7-8 in the morning until lunch. How much does a private part-time kindergarten cost in Kazan, and what parameters should be taken into account when choosing?
Requirements for part-time kindergarten
Not all kindergartens have a free schedule where you can leave early or miss a day without a good reason. In part-time private kindergartens, parents can write an application, indicating in it what schedule the child will go to. Certificates from a doctor are not required for passes. Most often, a part-time day is organized for children under 5 years old, in older groups, mostly a full stay.
There are several criteria to consider when choosing an institution:
- Qualifications of caregivers. Empathy, goodwill and stress resistance are the essential qualities of a good teacher. Before taking the baby to kindergarten, get to know the teachers, talk, determine whether your ideas about raising children match.
- Daily routine. Unlike a full day garden, a part-time visit means that all the main activities and games will be held before lunch, and after lunch the children can be picked up at any time.
- Delicious and wholesome food. Part-time usually means 4 meals a day: breakfast, lunch, lunch and afternoon tea. Some children are picked up immediately after lunch. In order for the baby not to be capricious and eat well, the food should be varied, tasty. If there is a food allergy, it must be said about it, he should be offered a menu without allergenic products.
- Development program. So that the baby does not miss home, the garden should be interesting. Good teachers can organize joint drawing, modeling, staging a play or dance. They read books to children aloud, watch educational cartoons and discuss them.
- Leisure. There are kindergartens where in the morning with a child they can go to the zoo or circus, to the dolphinarium, to the cinema. Such an entertainment program is usually paid separately, it is often offered on weekends so that the baby is happy and the parents can go about their business.
The cost of a part-time kindergarten is calculated monthly or hourly, the price per hour is from 120 to 1500 rubles. For those days when the child did not attend the group, you usually do not need to pay.
From the parents’ feedback, you can learn a lot of useful information about how children get used to kindergarten with part-time and then go full-time, how they adapt to their peers, where excellent teachers work, and where it is simply dangerous to send a child. Read the reviews and share your opinion after visiting the kindergarten!
