Is ABCmouse easy to use?

ABCmouse is easy to setup and use. Once the user has successfully logged in the parent will need to set up their child’s profile. This includes an avatar, date of birth, gender and academic level.

It is noted that the academic levels shown are for the American education system. There is an excellent introduction video to ABCmouse app which we recommend watching. This video is informative and explains the curriculum content as well as how the application uses a ‘Learning Path’ which is a structured learning experience of over 850 lessons for your child accordingly to their academic age.

How does the ABCmouse app help improve learning?

My Learning Path is your child’s Step-by-Step learning path, which is a set of lessons and activities that teaches the academic knowledge and skills appropriate to your child’s level.

Along with the ’Learning Path’ children can also explore books, videos, songs, puzzles and much more. Students can access subject activities via the ‘Classroom’ or they can take a field trip to the zoo or farm. Children can also use the ‘Basics’ area where they can focus on foundation skills for core subjects. ‘Tickets’ are awarded every time an activity is completed. These tickets can be used to purchase items for their avatar, room, aquarium, shopping area and much more. This not only creates motivation for the child but also creates a fun, exciting learning environment.

The ‘ABCmouse Learning Academy’ contains a vast amount of educational content that is beautifully presented and has great educational value. The platform is laid out in an intuitive and child-friendly manner. For this review, we will focus on just a few of the thousands of the activities available. We also recommend Khan Academy Kids, which is our Editors’ Choice among free learning apps.

The ‘Home‘ dashboard displays your child’s avatar, name, tickets gained, a map, search and settings. The main screen displays 8 sections; Learning Path, Classroom, Map, about me, Zoo, what’s new, Math Games and Things to do.

Each press is accompanied by a voice-over to enhance the learning experience supported by some great music. We did note that is often a lag in the loading of the content this is mainly due to the size of ABCmouse app and the vast amount of content. These topics were chosen from within the ‘Classroom’ platform. Each of these topics is supported by further content; books & Poems, Videos, Games, Puzzles, Art and Music.

Reading and Language Arts – Here your child will find more than 450 books and writing activities. These include features such as narration, word definition, the pace of reading, highlighting and more. Each book is beautifully presented with stunning illustrations and animation.

Math – Here the child can learn about numbers, addition and subtraction, shapes, patterns, measurements and more.

The World Around Us – In this section, child will understand the world they live in and inspires curiosity.

Art and Colors – ABCmouse.com has developed a multifaceted Art and Colors curriculum that features unique new drawing and painting tools designed especially for young children. The site offers more than a thousand pages of drawing, coloring, tracing, and art activities that can be done on the computer or printed out as printables to be used offline.

Printables – ABCmouse.com has more than 2,000 printable activities across reading, math, art and colors, and more.

Games and Puzzles section includes hundreds of fun and interactive games to help children learn and practice important ideas and skills in reading, math, science, social studies, and the arts.

All of these activities are great fun, interactive and encourages the child when answers are incorrect.

Why we love ABCmouse app

The ABCmouse.com app is an excellent app that works well over both platforms; tablet and computer.  The content within the app and learning experience is quite mind-blowing as the developers should be congratulated on how much ABCmouse app covers. The learning activities are well presented, great fun and differentiation for users. Sometimes the content within the app seemed overwhelming and we often lost sight of what section the child was in, what they were learning and how they were progressing.

However, we found that if the child stuck to the ‘Learning Path’ progress seemed more defined. We also enjoyed looking at the ‘Progress tracker’ within the ‘Settings’ section which displayed their child’s progress including lessons, dates, tickets, subject progress, number of activities and more. We felt that valuable information like this should not be hidden within the ‘Settings’ section but accessed via the ‘Home’ dashboard for both parent and child to view.

ABCMouse.com is designed to provide a structured, rewards and play-based environment for learning basic skills in reading, math, science, music, art, social studies, health, and more. ABCmouse uses games and activities of increasing difficulty to build a rewards-based curriculum.

What age is ABCmouse.com recommended for?

With many educational programs and apps available for preschoolers, how do you know which ones are worth your time? ABCmouse designed for pre-K and kindergarten students offers age-appropriate content that comes in an engaging format. The content focuses on reading, writing, math, art and music, music and songs, social studies, and science and health. A Lot or a Little?

The parents’ guide to what’s in this website.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that ABCmouse.com is an educational website for kids age 2–8 that includes more than 10,000 learning activities. To access ABCmouse.com and its companion apps’ content — including games, puzzles, read-to-me books, songs, and more — users pay for a subscription. Each parent account can track progress for up to three kids. Parents can pay an additional fee to access the Assessment Center for more individualized assessment and progress data. Parents and kids can choose to navigate in Spanish, and there’s a large set of Spanish-language activities. Although the learning activities stay the same, the developer regularly adds or removes supplemental video series and other content. Though there are no ads or external links on the kid’s side of the site, there is some branded content such as a collection of Disney stories. Note: Prior to 2018, Common Sense Media received many reviews from parents who reported difficulty canceling their ABCmouse.com subscription, though those issues seem to be much more infrequent as of 2018. Read the developer’s privacy policy for details on how your (or your kids’) information is collected, used, and shared and any choices you may have in the matter, and note that privacy policies and terms of service frequently change.

Poorly designed education content. Empty and hollow.

The learning program of Abc Mouse will destroy the thinking capacity of kids. No doubt it engages the kids and gives false hope to parent that kids are learning. But the programs are so poorly designed that they are empty sugar without any nutrition. The learning program have been designed lazily and hurriedly. There is some kind excessive pattern matching. Kids dont have to think much. Rewards have been designed well but the program they have to go through are pathetic. My kids were engaged and we were happy initially. But later I saw that instead of progressing in academics, they had lost substantial amount of knowledge they gained earlier. Only thing they had become expert in is playing abcmouse games.

Terrible Chat Service

When I questioned the price for 1 child versus 3 children (12. 99/mo-regaurdless) after 30 day trial, the first chatter sent me to cust care which was rude when I asked for clarification because they were vague. Then they said as I stated…I still have the email with all the messages. Not fair I have to pay same price for one child. Not interested in service. Angry that I was talked down too.

This title has:

Too much consumerism

What’s It About?

To use ABCMOUSE.COM, parents set up an account for themselves and up to three kids. Parents must enter credit card information to access the free trial. Through 10 levels of activities, ABCmouse.com is designed for preschool through second grade kids. Kids can choose activities from the main screen or the classroom, or they can make their way through “learning paths” of varying difficulty. Kids get tickets for completing activities that can be used to “buy” items for their avatar, their room, a fish tank, or a hamster track. A combination of verbal instructions, images, and text guides kids through the site. Content can be accessed on the web or via the companion apps, which are included in the subscription price.

Is It Any Good?

This educational site/app combination is loaded with activities and is encouraging — but the uneven content, busy presentation, and reward systems distract kids from the learning activities. From the colorful kindergarten classroom homepage and learning zoo to interactive books and songs, there are so many choices here that will engage most pre-K and early elementary-age kids. There are also multiple ABCmouse apps that offer additional ways to interact with specific parts of the curriculum and are included with subscription.

Unfortunately, one of the most positive points of the site — there are no ads directed at kids — is somewhat dampened by the fact that learning is rewarded by shopping. Also, there’s so much content that it may be overwhelming for some kids to choose from the variety of options, especially since simpler is better for little ones. Kids who need more direction can follow the “learning path,” which guides them step-by-step to activities of increasing difficulty. Not all content is top-quality: Some is basic point-and-click, and then kids simply listen to the audio response, and the overall look and feel of much of the content is outdated. But other ABCmouse.com activities and books, including titles from National Geographic Kids, are thoughtfully crafted, interactive, and aligned with many fundamental pre-K, first grade, and second grade curriculum goals. There’s also a rotating collection of original video series that get kids inspired to learn more. Parents can customize kids’ learning level, time allowed, and more. They can also choose to navigate in English or Spanish, and there’s a large collection of Spanish activities, though they’re somewhat limited. Overall, it may be a great fit for some kids, and some of the content is strong, but it may not live up to the promise for all parents.

types and principle of operation – ABC IMPORT

Contents of the article:

As an input device, the computer mouse was born seven years before the first PC and three years before the first microprocessor. The product was called MOUSE (allegedly abbreviating the designation Manually Operated User Signal Encoder), and it was developed by the American space agency for fast and accurate transmission of coordinates. However, the device that the engineers got, which in shape and size does not resemble a mouse at all, but the most natural iron, did not correspond to the solution of the required tasks. Therefore, the project was closed, and in the form familiar to users, the mouse entered the market already at the end of the seventies, and it was by no means part of a PC, but the brainchild of Apple, the first computer with a full-fledged graphical interface. It is from this moment that the evolution of the “rodents” known to the masses begins.

Purpose of the mouse

A computer mouse is an information input device, the principle of which is based on transmitting coordinates to a computer, processing them by the processor, then displaying the corresponding cursor position on the screen, and interacting with interface elements through control buttons. Opening files, scrolling windows and pages of sites, calling the context menu and selecting commands from it, moving and copying – most of these and other operations (not counting typing, of course) are performed by an ordinary computer user using the mouse.

Varieties

There are two main types of “electronic rodents”: mechanical and optical. Among both those and others there are varieties due to technological differences.

Mechanical devices

You will be interested in: What is the refresh rate, how to find out how many hertz are in the monitor

Due to the imperfection of the technology, computer mice of this group are no longer produced and are practically not used anywhere, being completely replaced by their more modern and practical counterparts.

The original design of the mouse involved taking coordinates through the rotation of two perpendicular wheels (this is how the very first manipulator was designed), but the general public remembered the ball drive, since these mice were mainly used until the late nineties.

The base of a mechanical type computer mouse is a rubber-covered metal ball that protrudes from the bottom of the case. Metal gives the manipulator the necessary weight, and rubber gives grip to the surface. Inside the case, the ball is pressed against two rollers, the movements of which are recorded by sensors and then converted into electrical impulses. In the first models of mechanical computer mice, the sensor device assumed a contact connection with the rollers, in later versions they were replaced with light-sensitive optical ones, and the rollers acquired plates with special perforations designed to transmit or delay the light flux from the source.

The main disadvantage of ball mice is the constant need for cleaning and maintenance. Dust, small debris, particles of hair and skin – all this ball dragged into the mouse body with enviable constancy. As a result, the rollers were covered with layers of dirt (up to two or three millimeters thick), and the ball itself evenly distributed these deposits over its entire surface, thereby reducing the sensitivity and accuracy of the mouse. In addition, it was quite difficult to use the mouse without a special mousepad, which improved the grip of the mouse and reduced (though not by much) the likelihood of contamination.

Optical devices

A computer mouse of this type was developed back in 1980, but this product became widespread in the late nineties, when devices from Hewlith Packard under the Microsoft trademark appeared on the market.

You may be interested in: Pentium 2020M mobile microprocessor. Characteristics and specifications

The first generation of manipulators were quite different from optical mice familiar to the modern user. Inside the device, sensors were installed in the form of an optical pair: emitting and absorbing reflected light from the surface, respectively. And on this very surface, special technical drawings had to be present, which made the use of a mouse without an appropriate mousepad meaningless. And since the pattern for each of the sensors could be individual, there could be no question of any compatibility. In addition, many users were scared away by the rather high price of such devices.

The next generation of optical “rodents” has already been devoid of the shortcomings of previous models: now a special video camera monitors the movements of the mouse on the surface, continuously photographing it and comparing each picture with the previous one. A bright light (in simple models) at the bottom of the device is a backlight that increases the efficiency of the camera. Most often, red LEDs are used, in more expensive models, the backlight may be different. There is no binding to special mats: the mouse can be used on most surfaces (except for glasses, mirrors and similar surfaces).

In this image, you can disassemble the Defender computer mouse device: how the LED forms a beam, how it reflects from the surface, and then hits the light catcher.

Laser devices

One of the subtypes of optical manipulators. With completely identical principles of operation, laser mice differ from classical “optics” only in the installed laser infrared diode. The light emitted by the diode is focused by a lens into a micro-dot, then reflected and captured by an ultra-precise and ultra-sensitive sensor. Due to more precise focusing, the use of this type of illumination makes the device much less dependent on the type of surface used. This is expressed in the possibility of using laser mice on glass and mirror coatings. In addition, manufacturers of such devices promise increased sensor accuracy, which can significantly help representatives of the gaming industry (the statement is rather controversial, and looks more like a marketing ploy).

There is no bright backlight because infrared light is not visible to the human eye. Accordingly, the problem of constant operation of the backlight LED even when the computer is turned off (which many users of optical mice have noted) is not typical for laser mice.

Induction devices

A rare variety of computer mice. The device of most of these manipulators is no different from conventional optical mice. The difference, most often, lies in getting power: usually, such mice are included in the set of graphics tablets and are powered by these same tablets according to the principle of electromagnetic induction – through the interaction of transmitting and receiving induction coils located in the tablet and in the mouse body, respectively.

The practical use of such a device for the average user will tend to zero, but graphic designers, who often value every centimeter of space on the table, will like this solution.

Gyro devices

The presence of a gyroscope in many consumer electronics devices has long been the norm. And the IT industry is no exception, where not only smartphones and tablets are equipped with gyroscopes, but also virtual reality devices, as well as computer mice.

A feature of such a rodent is the ability to work not only in the horizontal plane (in this case it works like an ordinary optical mouse), but also in space. In the same way, the readings of the sensors are fixed by the computer, which allows you to move the cursor around the screen without placing the manipulator on a hard surface.

Trackballs

A stand-alone device equipped with a ball that performs the same functions as a classic ball mouse, but is located not from below, but from above or to the side. Moving the cursor on the screen is carried out by moving the fingers or palm over the ball, the reading of the rollers is carried out by highly sensitive optical sensors, which, according to the assurances of the developers, minimizes the negative effects of pollution.

Such controllers did not win much love from most users (the price turned out to be an important factor), narrowing the main scope to music, medical and military. The most famous manufacturer of such devices is Logitech. Computer mice and other manipulators of this company are very popular, but in the field of non-standard controllers, it is far from last.

Wired and wireless devices

There is also a distinction based on the type of power source. The very first mass devices received their five volts exclusively from the computer’s power supply (regardless of the type of connector – PS / 2 or USB), and, accordingly, were wired. Wireless manipulators, on the other hand, operate from their own power sources (batteries or accumulators), and they have undergone certain changes in the process of introducing wireless technologies into the IT industry.

Infrared

The very first attempt to organize a wireless connection between a computer and a manipulator. A special transmitting unit was connected to the computer, the signal from which was sent to the receiving device on the mouse itself. In this place, the main drawback of optical communication was hidden: the connection required a direct line of sight between the receiver and transmitter, which was quite often complicated due to the appearance of certain obstacles, as well as due to the banal displacement of the mouse to an unacceptable angle. To date, the production of such devices has been discontinued.

Radio channel and Bluetooth

In fact, both are designations for identical data transmission methods. The difference lies in the use of communication standards: Bluetooth is a standardized protocol, and any mouse that supports the standard synchronizes with the transmitter without problems, while conventional wireless mice require a specific adapter connected to the USB port.
