Debian’s Apache2 default configuration is different from the
upstream default configuration, and split into several files optimized for
interaction with Debian tools. The configuration system is
fully documented in
/usr/share/doc/apache2/README.Debian.gz. Refer to this for the full
documentation. Documentation for the web server itself can be
found by accessing the manual if the apache2-doc
package was installed on this server.

The configuration layout for an Apache2 web server installation on Debian systems is as follows:

• apache2.conf is the main configuration
  file. It puts the pieces together by including all remaining configuration
  files when starting up the web server.
• ports.conf is always included from the

• Configuration files in the mods-enabled/,
  conf-enabled/ and sites-enabled/ directories contain
  particular configuration snippets which manage modules, global configuration
  fragments, or virtual host configurations, respectively.
• They are activated by symlinking available
  configuration files from their respective
  *-available/ counterparts. These should be managed
  by using our helpers

• The binary is called apache2. Due to the use of

  Calling /usr/bin/apache2 directly will not work with the
  default configuration.

By default, Debian does not allow access through the web browser to
any file apart of those located in /var/www,
public_html
directories (when enabled) and /usr/share (for web
applications). If your site is using a web document root
located elsewhere (such as in /srv) you may need to whitelist your
document root directory in /etc/apache2/apache2. conf.

The default Debian document root is /var/www/html. You
can make your own virtual hosts under /var/www. This is different
to previous releases which provides better security out of the box.

Please use the reportbug tool to report bugs in the
Apache2 package with Debian. However, check existing bug reports before reporting a new bug.

Please report bugs specific to modules (such as PHP and others)
to respective packages, not to the web server itself.

History of origin

first references to this breed are found at the end of the 19th century, however, the official history of the Munchkin begins in 1983, when music teacher Sandra Hotchenedel from Louisiana picked up a pregnant short-legged cat and named her Blackberry. Soon short-legged kittens were born, which became the official representatives of the breed. Munchkins were first introduced to the general public at 1991 at a cat show, but were perceived negatively as sick and non-viable animals. Later genetic studies showed that the short legs of this breed are the result of a natural mutation of the genes responsible for the length of the limbs. Fortunately, this mutation does not pose any harm to the health of the cat, and they do not suffer from spinal problems. In 1995, Munchkins were officially recognized by the International Cat Association and are now actively bred all over the world and have a lot of fans. In 2001, representatives of this breed were first brought to Russia.

Description of the breed

Munchkins differ from other cats only in the length of their legs, and are divided into three types: dwarf, ultra-short-legged and standard. Munchkins are also jokingly referred to as “dachshund cats”. The body of these cats is elongated, while strong and muscular. The head is wide, wedge-shaped, slightly tapering to the chin. The ears are small, set wide apart and rounded at the end. The eyes are large, expressive, almond-shaped – from grassy green to sky blue. There is also heterochromia (eyes of different colors), but more often in cats with a white coat color. The tail is slightly thickened, cone-shaped, always carried up.

As for the legs, they are, on average, two to three times shorter than those of other cats. At the same time, the front legs are slightly shorter than the hind legs, and may be slightly curved inward. The limbs themselves are strong, massive, with small rounded pads.

Although the Munchkin is considered a semi-long-haired breed, there are both short-haired cats with a velvety coat and long-haired silky beauties. The coat itself is shiny, elastic, with a moderate undercoat. In long-haired individuals, tassels on the ears are allowed. A variety of colors are allowed: one-color, bi-color and tri-color. The most rare colors are chocolate and marble colors.

Personality

Apart from their cute looks, Munchkins have a pleasant friendly and playful character. These cats are very affectionate and contact, completely forgiving, they get along well with small children, not releasing their claws even for squeezing and dragging their tail. With other cats and even dogs, these tiny beauties also find a common language. They love to lie on the owner’s lap, humming a soft song, and if you stay late at work, they won’t smash the whole apartment or be offended.

Despite their short legs, Munchkins love to explore: they easily jump on the tallest cabinets and sofas, stick their nose into the most secret corners and are sure to pull off shiny objects to play, so keep jewelry and fragile figurines out of the reach of a cat. These cats love walks and travel, not at all afraid of new places, strangers or noise. Munchkins are happy to walk on a harness and can even ride in a car without trying to break out the window or tear the entire interior with their claws.

Care and maintenance

Munchkins are easy to keep and do not require special care. It is enough to comb them once every couple of weeks (long-haired cats are better once a week so that tangles do not form) with a comb and massage brush, completing the procedure by rubbing the fur with a suede cloth to make it shine better. Bathe the cat once every 3-4 months, then dry it thoroughly so that it does not catch a cold. Regularly clean your ears of accumulated dust and wax with a moistened cotton swab, keep your eyes and mouth clean. As for the claws, you can cut them or buy a special scratching post.

Pay special attention to your pet’s diet. Consult with a veterinarian who will select a super-premium professional food for your cat. If you are going to feed the cat “natural”, then make sure that she gets all the necessary vitamins and minerals. To maintain a muscular corset, a large amount of protein is required – lean meats (rabbit, beef, turkey, chicken), offal, cereals, boiled vegetables, sour-milk products (yogurt or kefir), once a week – boiled sea fish or egg yolk. Fatty, smoked or salty delicacies from the master’s table are strictly prohibited, as well as overfeeding – otherwise the cat is threatened with obesity or serious problems with the gastrointestinal tract.

Education and training

Munchkins are very smart cats, so they can be easily trained to a litter box or a harness. As for training, pay attention to the favorite pose of representatives of this breed, when they stand on their hind legs and freeze in this position, folding their front legs on their chest. You can teach your cat to stand up on its hind legs at your request: by clearly pronouncing the command and treating the pet with something tasty for a successfully completed task. Many breeders recommend developing the kitten’s intelligence with the help of special toys or outdoor games, where the pet could show his resourcefulness. Never scold or punish your cat, otherwise it may lose confidence in you.

Health and disease

Munchkins are healthy and with proper care can live up to 20 years. The only genetic disease that a cat can inherit is lordosis of the spine (stretching in the thoracic region). It is forbidden to cross Munchkins with other breeds (only long-haired and short-haired representatives of their breed) to avoid diseases and mutations. Watch your cat’s diet because they are prone to obesity. Do not forget to regularly show the animal to the veterinarian, as well as about vaccination and prevention of helminths.

Origin of the breed

Munchkins appeared due to a happy accident. In 1983, in Louisiana, a girl found a cat with unusually short legs on the street. The citizen took pity on the poor animal and took him to her home. The cat was given the nickname Blackberry.

A cat with normal mating legs was found for a short-legged pet. Unexpectedly for everyone, the couple had kittens with even shorter legs. And so it turned out that Blackberry is not a disabled person, but a carrier of an interesting short-legged gene.

The breed was named after the little men of Oz, and the Munchkin standard was conditionally recognized in 1991.

Description of the Munchkin

A distinctive feature of this breed is its short legs. The appearance of a cat may differ slightly from the above standard, but with long legs, a munchkin is not a munchkin.

These cats come with both smooth and long coats. In general, munchkins are described as follows:

• Wedge-shaped head with smooth transitions and a rounded occiput;
• Large, blunt-tipped ears with fluff inside;
• Walnut-shaped eyes set wide apart at a slight angle to the nose. Any color is acceptable;
• Thick, movable neck of medium length, pronounced muscles;
• The body is elongated, like a dachshund, with a slight elevation towards the back. Munchkin weight – from 2 to 4 kg;
• Forelegs shorter than hind legs. Curvature to the inside is allowed;
• Wool with a little undercoat protects the cat well from water.

Short-haired Munchkins have a plush coat to the touch and look shiny. In solid colors, the coat can weigh more than in spotted ones.

Long-haired Munchkins are silky, with semi-long hairs that seem to flow over the cat. The collar is made of wool.

The breed standard allows any color variation. All possible spots, colors and their combinations are acceptable. Munchkins often have a lighter muzzle, chest and tummy – white or cream.

Particularly interesting are spotted and striped colors, such as tabby.

This is friendly and affectionate cats – they love to communicate with people and never choose their favorite, paying attention to all family members the same. They love it when they are stroked and picked up.

They have in common with dachshunds not only a similar appearance, but also a character – they are loyal and brave cats with high intelligence. A small guard may even be able to protect a dwelling from a proportionate enemy. Representatives of the breed can be trained and taught some tricks.

Munchkins are very energetic cats, ready to run all day and night. Of course, they will not be able to climb onto a tall cabinet or table, but they will easily climb onto the bed and demand attention to their person. Small paws do not prevent him from having fun jumping and chasing the ball, so be prepared for such sports loads.

These cats can be mischievous. Munchkins love to collect different items and toys to hide in a secluded place for their collection. Especially short-legged cats are attracted to shiny little things. If you do not periodically destroy such a nest, it will reach an impressive size!

Another funny habit of these cats is to stand up on their hind legs, like gophers, if they can’t see something. At the same time, Munchkins lean on their ass, and can be in this position for hours. Some cats watch TV like this, touching the owners with their occupation.

Compatible with children and other pets

Munchkins are quite friendly creatures, and fighting with short legs is not very convenient. Cats of other breeds perceive them as equals and do not see anything strange in such a length of paws, so they will not spread rot for an unusual look.

The short-legged cats themselves like to play catch-up with friends and playfully fight. Dogs of medium and large breeds think that the Munchkin is such a kitten, and sometimes take guardianship over him.

These cats are even compatible with birds and rodents – Munchkin won’t be able to catch them. If you put the cage in a place inaccessible to the cat, he will not turn it over and will not mischief. However, it is better to let a parrot or a hamster out of the cage under supervision, and better – in another room from the munchkin.

Children love short-legged cats for their cute appearance and good-natured nature. Representatives of the breed will never scratch and bite, unless they are specifically provoked to do so. Munchkins will tolerate swaddling, rolling on their hands, and even pulling their tails, but a violation of personal dignity is not for anything. Explain to the child that the cat is not a toy, and all problems will be solved.

Grooming the Munchkin

These tomboy cats don’t require much attention to hygiene. Short-haired Munchkins need to be brushed once every couple of weeks. For longhairs, purchase a wide-toothed comb and comb out two to three times a week. Both types of Munchkin will benefit from a slicker brush to quickly comb out the thick undercoat during shedding.

Representatives of the breed have different attitudes to bathing: some love it, others hate it. Such a cat does not often need to take a bath – once every 2-3 months is enough. If your Munchkin doesn’t like bathing, you can use cat dry shampoo, or limit yourself to washing only as a last resort.

Feeding munchkins is nothing out of the ordinary: choose a balanced ready-made food or create a menu of natural food. In the latter case, make sure that forbidden foods do not get into the diet: acquaintance with them can end in failure.

Features of the content

From the first days of the kitten in your home, you need to properly educate. The pet must know where the scratching post is, where to go to the toilet and not be afraid of hygiene procedures, including examinations.

Munchkins are curious and courageous, so they will definitely enjoy walking. Get your cat timely vaccinated, buy it and train it to wear a harness – and go! It is better to walk with a cat in the park so as not to scare him with cars.

At home, a short-legged cat will try to reach everything that is possible, so it is worth directing his energy. Munchkins are smart, so they solve puzzles easily – get your pet involved in this activity.

To protect your valuables, hide them from the cat higher up: everything he likes, he will knock over or take to his collection.
