    Saint Fiacre’s Garden: logik_logik – LiveJournal

    Ireland, Tully, Kildare

Could something new send us to a time we know nothing about? Entering this garden, you will find yourself in another world, in which you will definitely want to return again and again.

[ Spoiler (click to open) ]

The garden, designed in 1999 by landscape architect Prof. Martin Hallinan in memory of St. Japanese Gardens. But, at the same time, it opens up a completely different, and in its own way, delightful view of the world. This charm captivates, captivates, conjures up images of those who were fond of the “monastery” movement in the 6th and 7th centuries, paying tribute to the Irish landscape in its infancy. Stones and water are the main elements of the garden, reflecting the natural beauty of the forest, wetlands, waterfalls, lakes and streams.

Many schoolchildren like to wander along the paths in the garden, guessing trees, observing the life of swans, studying the age of trees and the interaction of all living things in a single biocenosis.

The cracked limestone monastic cells are surrounded by water, while the inner hidden garden is home to the majestic, crystal-like Waterford Rocks, as well as ferns and orchids.

St. Fiacre’s Garden is the essence of Ireland’s natural beauty – as it was then and as it is now, a tribute to the Irish Saint and a tribute to the country itself.

The garden was planned on 4 acres (1.6 ha) of wetland. It took about a year to complete what was planned – to bring in fertile soil and form a new landscape. As a result, the territory took the forms that were planned – the garden seemed as natural as possible, so the bright plant schemes gave way to a forest theme with swampy lowlands. This style of planting resulted in a garden with an atmosphere conducive to contemplation, reflecting Fiacre’s love for nature and the earth. It was exciting to watch the landscape transform into the garden we see today. Creating such a natural garden requires great skill and endurance. The waterfall is completely man-made using limestone brought from the city of Galway. It feels like he’s always been here. Fiakra Garden and Japanese gardens are opposites that attract and look harmonious together.

Since the territory of the garden is quite spacious, a large number of visitors does not cause much harm to animals and plants. The kingfishers are very helpful, who return here every year to raise their offspring, which means that nothing bothers them, and they feel comfortable and safe. Also in the garden, herons are observed feeding on the lake, but they like to do it early in the morning when there are not many people nearby.

Irish National Stud Gardens Manager Irene McMahon came to work at the Japanese Garden at 1995, immediately after graduating from an agricultural college (Kildalton Horticultural College, formerly the parish church of Kildalton). She graduated from University College Cork with a degree in environmental science and then studied landscape design at the Blanchardstown Institute of Technology in 2008. Today, Irene manages three main farming areas: the horse farm, the Japanese Gardens and the Garden of St. Fiacre.
