25 Brilliant Preschool Virtual Learning Ideas

Distance learning is a massive struggle with pre-schoolers. Keeping their attention focused can feel like herding cats at first, but the internet is a cornucopia of resources making this daunting task more manageable. Keeping them engaged and active is difficult enough in a classroom but being connected by a screen increases the challenge tenfold. Pre-K and preschool teachers really have their hands full with distance learning but here are 25 ideas to make the virtual classroom every bit as fun and educational as hands-on learning.

1. Count Around the House

Send students worksheets that they can complete around the house. In this one, they will need to count the number of items that they can find in each room. This includes spoons, chairs, lights, and beds. Students can also give feedback and tell the rest of the class how many of each item they found on their hunt

How do I join the afterschool program?

Our virtual preschool includes a Well-being section, where parents can access videos from Playgarden Prep teachers that help with everyday parenting challenges. These educational videos are for children to watch alone, or with their caregivers, and are accompanied by worksheets and printables. Each week you will be recommended a series of DIY projects, art projects, Do-It-Together projects, games, snacks, music recommendations, and more; little ones can spend time away from digital devices, while still being engaged and entertained. Because these lessons are pre-recorded, you can pause or rewatch at any time! We cover all of the core subjects to make sure that your child meets all of their developmental benchmarks: language, math, science, reading, geography, art, theatre, movement, sensory, and nutrition. All of our virtual preschool curriculum comes from our in-person preschool lessons taught at our NYC schools. The program also includes features, like:

  • Hands-On Activities: One of the most important components of any preschool experience is hands-on learning. We offer custom virtual preschool workbooks and worksheets, DIY games and crafts, art and sensory projects, and more!

  • Online Worksheets: Your little learner will complete online worksheets to help build cognitive skills. These worksheets are designed to test the subject(s) covered during each Daily Lesson; test what your child retains from each subject!

  • Edu-tainment: Many children today are obsessed with their screen time. Why not turn this into something positive? We offer videos that entertain, to keep your child motivated and instill an early love of learning.

A Unique Benefit of Virtual Preschool & Virtual Pre-K—It Works for Different Types of Learning

As a virtual preschool, or preschool online, we are not limited by group sizes, all children can learn at their own pace and all children can choose to focus on what they like or need. We are also a Montessori based preschool which means the focus is on individualized learning and supporting children as they grow.

All students have access to our multi-year comprehensive program that we created over 15 years of in person teaching in our preschool and pre-K programs in NYC. This, combined with our proprietary technology platform, allows us to support different kinds of learning needs and styles at home.

GIFTED CHILDREN

Does your child show signs of being developmentally advanced? Gifted children are in the 98th percentile in terms of learning abilities, in one or more core subjects. Some states and countries consider them special needs students since they have learning needs that can’t be met in a regular preschool or Pre-K class. Our virtual preschool platform and programs help with that.

  • Total flexibility as students can complete the pre-recorded lessons as quickly as they like

  • Students have access to an advanced curriculum from our elite NYC pre-k programs

  • Lessons are focused on concrete learning in core subjects following our academic preschool curriculum

  • Children also have access to arts, music, and other creative learning outlets

Consistent ways to stay engaged!

LANGUAGE SUPPORT

Would you like to give your preschooler extra help with language development?
Recent studies are finding that children who started school during the pandemic need intensive reading help. In our preschools, we have seen the incoming classes (toddlers 20 months to 3 years old) are indeed coming in with a lower level of language development than in previous years. We developed our virtual preschool platform to provide that extra help with language and literacy.

  • Our teachers provide clear and visible articulation in all the lessons

  • Daily lessons emphasise literacy and phonetics

  • Children can repeat lessons as many times as they want or need

  • We have hundreds of interactive and classic book readings

  • Our zoom lessons and recorded videos also provide social and emotional developmental tools

We provide opportunities for families to Play and Learn together, which at the end of the day is the best way to learn.

LEARNING DISABILITIES (LDs)

At playgarden prep online, we help with speech and language delays and communication challenges. We created a specialized speech and language classroom in our preschool location in NY, where we provide an academic preschool curriculum that supports speech and language development. We incorporate that preschool and pre-k curriculum in our online program, with additional tools and support.

  • Flexible, pre-recorded lessons that can be completed at your child’s pace

  • Different areas of focus, with special emphasis on language and literacy

  • Repetition through diferent media using videos, songs, and worksheets

  • One-on-one tutoring alternative

  • Access to Playgarden’s developmental experts

Let your child learn what they need, when they need it!

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD)

Is your child on the autism spectrum? In an online preschool, among other things, they don’t need to stay seated to learn! Our online preschool program provides autistic students with:

  • Consistent daily routines

  • All lessons are pre-recorded providing flexibility to pause, restart, rewatch or watch continously based on a student’s focus

  • We teach our content through rythm and music as it promotes various domains of development

  • Our mobile platform allows children to stay active and find a sensory friendly setting at home

  • Ability to incorporate Individualized Education Plans, similarly to in person preschool and pre-K

  • Sensory DIY projects and activities

  • Access to Playgarden’s developmental experts

Application of virtual learning to education

Virtual reality in education

Virtual reality in education or virtual education

Virtual education is the process and result of communicative interaction of subjects and objects in the virtual educational sphere. Virtual learning is available to anyone, and classes take place anywhere and at a convenient time for you. As a result, you choose the time of classes yourself.

What does virtual education provide?

Learning with the use of virtual reality technologies is a completely new level of the educational process. Studying with glasses makes it possible to fully immerse yourself in the learning process and not be distracted by external factors. Learning in this way is more understandable for the student, and more information is stored in memory.

VR goggles, headphones and manipulators or hands are used for training.

The cost of education is much lower than traditional university education. After graduation, each student receives knowledge that the best teachers will pass on to him. And most importantly, the student has the opportunity to experience the experience, i.e. really learn it.

Benefits of using virtual learning

  1. Experience. Busy school day. The use of virtual learning is used to approach a scientific experiment. But you should remember about overwork and receive information in a dosed manner, for better assimilation of the material.
  2. Transfer of information. For the assimilation of certain knowledge, a picture is required. Therefore, in addition to transmitting information, a picture is used in conjunction with a sound recording.

Two main items are used for VR immersion:

  1. VR immersion helmet. The presence of a headset allows you to hear, see objects not only in front of you, but also circle around you, and see everything as clearly as possible. The surrounding world is visible in 3D.
  2. Points, completely immersed in the atmosphere, you will get to know the fascinating world and subject, without being distracted by external factors.

Positive characteristics of the use of virtual education

  1. Being at home, there is always an opportunity to learn new information in the format of virtual learning through a computer.
  2. Modern students are so accustomed to gadgets that it is better for them to perceive all the information through a cell phone, computer or tablet.

Varieties of VR learning

  1. Complete immersion in virtuality. Using technology with a computer will allow you to be in the place that you see before your eyes as much as possible. Everything that happens will seem real, and your actions will take place in reality with an immersed picture.
  2. Without immersion in virtual reality. Suitable for project work. Having completed the work, you can get inside the project as much as possible, see all the shortcomings and correct them.

From the article we can conclude that virtual learning is a modern way of learning for modern times. You can study at a convenient time, combining with work. All information comes directly through your personal computer or virtual reality glasses, from which you can practice as much as you like. By choosing this method of development, you learn to solve problems on your own without anyone’s help. Learning is always interesting and exciting.

Types of virtual learning in educational institutions

  1. Companies with a high degree of development. The average level of knowledge of an employee directly affects the speed and safety of work.
  2. Establishments where work takes place online via the Internet. The selection of the course of interest, the time of conducting classes with teachers, the delivery of control and tests takes place using the Internet.
  3. Educational institutions where there are several forms of education. Some universities offer courses through the virtual world, which are always interesting for the student.
  4. Study rooms, where the Internet is the main means of communication between employees.
  5. Study rooms in companies where the level of education of employees is important.

There are two types of virtual training:

  1. Credit course. It is used in educational institutions where a state diploma is issued.
  2. Not a credit rate. The main task is to obtain a second education or advanced training.

Virtual education: how VR technologies are used in education

//photo: facetoface.bg

The development of technology in the 21st century has affected all spheres of human activity, including education. So, one of the innovations in this industry is VR technologies. Although their use is now more common in Europe and the United States, Russia also has experience in using such a tool. “City Reporter” has collected a selection of examples of the use of VR technology in education.

VR Impact Study in Beijing

//photo: hightech. fm

In China this June, HTC launched VIVE XR Suite, a suite of VR apps that allows users to remotely study, chat and attend events from anywhere. places with the help of computing devices. Tom Mainelli , director of consumer and device research at IDC , noted that interest in virtual reality continues to grow as more companies use such technologies to implement various training scenarios.

In order to test the success of using VR technology in education, Beijing conducted a study on “The Impact of Virtual Reality on Academic Activities”. Two groups of students were taught the same discipline. However, one group – in the classical form, the other – using virtual reality technology. At the end of the experiment, a test was conducted, according to the results of which the first group was successful by 73%, and the second by 93%.

US Law Schools and Yale Experience

//photo: amp.znaj.ua

Law students at the University of Missouri-Kansas City use virtual reality cameras to record themselves while interviewing potential jurors. Thus, students can look at themselves from the outside, and teachers get the opportunity to evaluate them more objectively. At present, this is just an assessment method, but the faculty plans to move beyond video in this format to the full use of VR technologies.

Dallas College of Law students created a crime scene using virtual reality cameras. The experiment was a success and allowed students to show their crime investigation skills to the fullest. There is also a well-known example from Yale University, where students successfully tested VR training for gallbladder surgery. VR users were 29% faster and made six times fewer mistakes.

Oxford VR in psychotherapy

//photo: 123ru.net

British startup Oxford VR has developed a range of virtual reality experiences for psychotherapy. The company was founded in 2017 by Oxford Professor Daniel Freeman and biomedical engineer Barnaby Perks . The platform of “automated VR therapy” became the object of development, which allowed students and practicing psychotherapists to explore human problems in this area.

In its first clinical trial, Oxford VR tested an app that put patients with a fear of heights at a virtual suspension bridge. The results of this experiment were more successful than in the case of treatment with traditional therapy.

Broadcast of lectures in VR format at the Higher School of Economics

and Digital Economy of the Russian Federation.

In addition, MTS, together with the National Research University Higher School of Economics, implemented a project to organize online broadcasts, including in VR format, from classrooms. HSE students can study by broadcasting lectures in regular and augmented reality formats. In order to give students more freedom in choosing the format and program of study, more than 150 HSE classrooms were equipped to conduct classes with viewers connecting online. Six of them are equipped for broadcasting in VR 360 format. When using VR glasses, students will be able to move around the picture simply by turning their heads. Any lecture can be listened to in the recording during the year.

VR anthropology at the University of Cambridge

//photo: rusdigitalcoop.com

Another popular example of the use of virtual reality in education. In 2018, anthropology students from Cambridge and a class from East China examined the symbols in a tomb on the Giza Plateau without visiting Africa. Such a study was made possible thanks to the rumii VR program developed by Doghead.

A virtual class was created in the program and three-dimensional models of the objects under study were loaded there. Students studied them by controlling their virtual avatars, although they were at a great distance from the tomb itself.
