In the course of a survey conducted by ESET, which involved 600 respondents, 53% of respondents stated that schoolchildren in their family are always online: at home they go to Network from a computer or laptop, and in an educational institution – from a smartphone. 22% of respondents said that their children play or communicate on the Internet after returning from school, when they have learned their lessons. 9% of users felt that children have nothing to do on the Web at all. In their opinion, online games should be banned for them, and the Internet can only be used for work. Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol, priests Philip Ilyashenko and Dimitry Fetisov, computer science teacher Andrei Sidenko and executive director of the Safe Internet League Denis Davydov talk about how to restrict children’s access to the Web and at the same time not interfere with their education.

“Take care of your children,
and don’t make excuses that you don’t have enough time”

Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol

Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol:

– Internet danger It is for all of us – not only for children, but also for adults. I don’t know, maybe our children in the future will forbid the elderly to access social networks, as their parents forbid them now.

Of course, a parent must supervise his child. And the dangers of the web are great. On the other hand, it is absolutely impossible for a child in our era to live without the Internet: then he will not be able to study, go to work. You need to learn how to use it correctly, not to become a slave, as much as possible.

It is unreasonable to put a computer in a nursery. Install it where you can follow what your child is looking for on the Internet. In a few years, without the Internet, nothing at all will be possible to do! Let the parents do everything that depends on them now. But, of course, a ban is not an option. The child will enter a transitional age, will resist, rebel. On the other hand, it is unreasonable to give unlimited use of the Internet and put a computer in the children’s room. Install it in a place where you can keep track of how much time the child spends at the computer and what exactly he watches. You need to teach your child to set limits for themselves.

However, first of all, we should devote our time to children, talk to them so that they tell us everything, share with us what worries them, would have confidence in us. Take care of the children, and do not make excuses that you have no time. Otherwise, the time will come when it will be too late, and the Internet will not be to blame, but we ourselves.

“Having uncontrolled access to the Net,
the child will go to some mess in the worst case,
will lose time at best”

Priest Filipp Ilyashenko

Priest Filipp Ilyashenko , Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History of PSTGU, Ph.D. oh when the person is learning. It is not necessary, as it was before, to spend a large amount of time searching for the necessary information. Today it is no longer necessary to go to the library for a book, it can be easily found on the Internet in electronic form. The whole world is using new opportunities, and rightly so.

What about children who have to do homework? After all, today it is almost impossible to do homework without the Internet. The older the student becomes, the more information he should receive – of course, it is more convenient to do this via the Internet.

But if a child has uncontrolled access to the Internet, then no matter how good his intentions may be, with a huge probability he will go to some mess at worst, at best he will lose time.

It is obvious that a child, having no adult experience to stop himself and keep him from doing wrong things, will find “harmful” information for him in the unlimited space of the Internet.

I would like to give some advice to parents. It seems to me that parents must follow three basic rules before their child starts working with the Internet.

First: work on the Internet is possible only under the supervision of parents; the ideal option is when an adult sits nearby and sees the screen behind which the child is working. There can be no talk of a child being online on the Internet while at school. Also, I do not believe in the work of a child when he rides in transport with a tablet in his hands.

Second: time limit. The Internet is a swamp that sucks in and doesn’t let go. The limit of perception of information is both in adults and in children, and in children it is much lower.

The child must not be registered in social networks. “Communication” in them is a trick of our time

And third: I believe that the child should not be registered and be present in social networks, primarily VKontakte. In this social network, there is no censorship in vocabulary, in video and photo materials.

“Facebook” looks a little more civilized, but I believe that in general the possibility of “communication”, “meetings” and other “life” on the Internet is a kind of trick of our time, something attractive, but false.

At the same time, one should not be dreamers and idealists, one should understand that this is the most powerful ideological weapon and a tool for collecting information about us, on the basis of which we can be influenced and model our behavior.

“The place of the Internet in the apartment is in the same place as the mercury thermometer:
on a distant shelf inaccessible to children”

Priest Dimitri Fetisov

Priest Dimitri Fetisov S.A. Esenina:

– In my discussions on the topic “Children and the Internet”, I can probably seem rigorous, because I think that the influence of the “network” on an intellectually and spiritually unformed person should be reduced as much as possible.

When I have to talk about this topic with parents and children, I usually compare the process of perception of information with the culture of food. I offer the simplest theses, equating, for example, negative information, no matter how correctly assessed it, to rotten food, which, having poisoned the body, can permanently “plant” the child’s liver and pervert the taste, so that it will be fetid, rotten and bitter. seem fragrant, fresh and sweet.

Those parents who want to raise their children healthy in body, surely instill in them a taste for the right diet. The same is with the development of the mind and feelings: at first, without disturbing the calm and gentle psyche of the child, they mostly read books to him and only occasionally turn on calm cartoons that do not violate harmony. Then they move on to the classics. Closer to adolescence – to the problematic classics. Of course, I mean, first of all, reading, which most develops the mind of a person and, in general, his ability and taste for knowledge.

And only when, by the grace of God, we see that our child has become a mature and formed person – somewhere closer to the senior classes, then, in my opinion, it is possible to allow his “ship” to sometimes go out into the insidious and dangerous sea of information space. To do this – to “release” it on the Internet – will have to do anyway, sooner or later, since the ban will definitely not be valid already in the ninth grade. But if a young man and a girl by that time have developed a certain taste for consuming information, then there is no need to worry: they are relatively not so afraid of the reefs of bad taste, vulgarity and debauchery that you can run into on the “net”.

Another thing is school assignments, which, as many parents complain, involve active use of the “network” starting from the second grade. Well, it means that in this case, the child’s access to the Internet should take place together with an adult who is able to show the basics of the correct search for information.

From a very young age, a child’s daily routine should be filled with all sorts of interesting and useful activities. From a very young age, the daily routine of the child should be filled with all sorts of interesting and useful things. “Drama circle, photo circle, I also want to sing” – this, in my opinion, is the motto that every normal parent should unobtrusively and delicately instill in his child. After all, a person, and even more so a small person, is like a log, which, if it is not turned over all the time, becomes moldy and begins to rot.

I am absolutely convinced that sooner or later educators, psychologists and sociologists will realize how dangerous it is – completely free access to the Internet for children. This, probably, will be similar to the story with mercury: at the beginning of the 20th century, it was used to “treat” the kidneys, and only then it was established how useful, in principle, a heavy metal is dangerous for the body.

So, the place of the Internet in the apartment is in the same place as the mercury thermometer: on a distant shelf inaccessible to children.

“Schools should introduce
methods to restrict content to parents”

“Teacher of the Year 2013” Andrey Sidenko

Andrey Sidenko , teacher of computer science at school No. 29 in Mytishchi, winner of the competition “Teacher of the Year 2013”:

– Actually, everything is quite simple. You have to work with a child. From early childhood, pay attention to the problems that concern him. Why do students spend a lot of time on the Internet? Because he has no other alternatives. If he knows that he can read a book, watch a movie, take a walk with his parents, go in for sports, then he will have no questions about how to spend his free time.

In my opinion, schools should have an information policy – tell parents about content filters, about restrictions on access to the Web. Parents also need to take care of what their children are looking for on the Internet. Put locked to access the computer, at least an administrative or guest password. Everything should be at such a level that the child knows from childhood: after 8 pm he cannot turn on the computer, because access is blocked.

Parents should understand that they need to take care of their children, devote time to them, and not give the child a tablet and go about their business. The school is also partly to blame, because work with parents is not carried out everywhere, but this needs to be done.

Do modeling, make 3D objects, work with video and sound – this will allow you to take a different look at information technology

Another question if a child has problems: gambling addiction and others. Then you need to fight with more radical methods. For example, turn off the Internet, prohibit them from using it unnecessarily, but this method is also not perfect. It would be nice to interest the child in another computer world. Try to show that the computer can be used not only for entertainment, but also for learning. This can be shown by the example of some interesting tasks: you can do modeling, make 3D objects, you can work with video and sound, do something yourself, which allows you to take a slightly different look at information technology.

“To protect children from illegal information on the Internet,
without resorting to draconian measures,
in the power of parents”

Denis Davydov

Denis Davydov 9000 7 , Executive Director of the Safe Internet League:

It is necessary to install the so-called “parental control” on home computers – special filters

– The Internet is a given. It exists and will exist. The Internet will not disappear, and its role in our lives, I think, will only increase. The numbers you cite confirm this. It’s hard to say whether the Internet has taken over our lives for good or bad, and it makes no sense to talk about it. It is more correct to talk about how to minimize the negative impact of the Internet. But it certainly exists, and children and adolescents are exposed to it as the most vulnerable part of the Internet audience. I’m talking about illegal content, which, unfortunately, is present on the Web: advertising of drugs and alcohol, suicide propaganda, scenes of violence and cruelty, pornography, including children’s, unambiguous offers and provocations from adult “perverted friends”, etc. d. – illegal information that can cause irreparable harm to the mental and physical health of children. Moreover, the child does not have to sit and specifically seek out this information. She will find him herself. In order to prevent this from happening, so that the child does not have access to such information, it is not at all necessary to stand over the soul of the child when he is sitting at the computer, or, for example, to completely prohibit him from using the Internet. It is enough for parents to install the so-called “parental control” on their home computers. These are special filters that any parent can connect with their carrier. Or, for example, you can use a similar free filter from the Safe Internet League. It is easy to install using the instructions on the organization’s website.

Such filters block access to sites with dangerous content, while sites with useful educational and educational information remain freely accessible. Such filters are mandatory installed on all computers in schools.

So it is up to their parents to protect their children from illegal information on the Internet without resorting to draconian measures and prohibitions.

And in order for the child not to spend too much time at the computer and not be dependent on it, as a father of many children, I can only advise you to pay more attention to your children, communicate with them, come up with joint entertainment, spend more time on the street, after all to read books together.
