A Potpourri of Preschools

It is that time of year again. Children may be thinking about summer vacation, but for many parents of toddlers, thoughts are on preschools and daycare programs for next fall.

To lend families a hand in their search, the Voice conducted a survey in April by sending a written questionnaire to local providers. The results, which are printed below (in reverse alphabetical order), show the eclectic variety of preschool and daycare facilities operating in and around Noe Valley. We are grateful to the providers who took the time to respond to our survey. In most cases, their answers have been left in their own words.

Of course, many Noe Valley parents may choose day care based upon where they work, and therefore may select schools in other neighborhoods. But it’s good to know what is available in our own back yard. (If we left out a school or service provider, please let us know and we will include you in a future issue.)

Little People’s Workshop

1268 Sanchez Street at Clipper Street

Jonnie Sharp, New Member Coordinator

415-215-1581 or jonnie@jonniesharp. com

Little People’s Workshop is a parent-run and parent-staffed daycare cooperative. Founded in 1975 by a group of Bernal Heights parents seeking affordable day care, the co-op moved to Noe Valley in 1998. It operates out of Bethany United Methodist Church at the corner of Sanchez and Clipper streets, although it is not religiously affiliated with the church. The preschool has six rooms, used for crafts, reading, playing, and napping. A teacher is on staff every day. There’s also a gymnasium where kids can ride toy cars and tricycles and fly in a parachute. Lunches and snacks are prepared in an onsite kitchen. Daily outings include visits to Douglass Park and the Noe Valley Library. Favorite destinations for once-a-month field trips are the San Francisco Zoo and Steinhart Aquarium.

Program Hours: Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Slots are available for two to four days per week.

Ratio of Childcare Providers to Children: A teacher is on staff every morning with two parents (ratio 3:8). In the afternoons, there are two parents and eight kids (2:8).

Age and Special Requirements: Children range in age from 18 months to 3 years. There are no potty training requirements. Jonnie Sharp: “It’s actually a great place to learn potty training–there is a lot of positive peer pressure from the other kids.”

Total Enrollment: There are never more than eight kids attending on any one day. “Currently, we have 15 families in our coop, but have openings for new members right now.”

Application and Acceptance Requirements: Interested parents come for two separate visits and stay the morning so they can meet all the co-op members and get a sense of the program. Once parents submit an application, existing co-op members vote on new members at a bimonthly meeting.

Program Cost: The cost ranges from $200 to $400 per month ($25 per day).

Years in Business: 28 years

Parent Involvement: Parents are required to work one four-hour shift for every two days that their child attends. There are bimonthly meetings, and each parent has a job within the cooperative.

School Philosophy: Little People’s Workshop is dedicated to providing high-quality child care in a non-classist, non-sexist, non-racist, non-authoritarian child-oriented atmosphere. We emphasize good nutrition, positive learning experiences, and unconditional nurturing for each child. It is our belief that the participatory nature of cooperative child care allows for an experience that is more diverse, nurturing, and responsive than traditional “private” child care.

Tree House Hollow Preschool – Staff

Executive Director

Megan Wilson (she/her) has been working with preschool children for over 15 years and has been at Tree House Hollow since 2007. She has a California Early Childhood Education Program Director Permit and has attained more than 30 units in Early Childhood Education. She holds a BA degree in Environmental Studies with a focus in Outdoor Leadership, and a minor in Early Childhood Education from Sonoma State University. She was also a certified wilderness first responder for six years. Megan has a large theatre and gardening background and deep interests in education, the environment, sustainability, and helping young people become good stewards of our planet. One of her greatest joys is helping children learn to identify plant and animal species and marvel at them. She co-created and led our Adventure Day Program at Creekside- bringing students off campus to climb, wade, and immerse in nature. She left her Creekside Director position at the end of the school year in 2017 to have her son, and returned in November 2017 to take over the Executive Director position- overseeing both campuses. She has since also welcomed a daughter into her family in May 2019. Megan is passionate about Tree House Hollow and early learning, and continues to guide the vision for our school.

Creekside Program Director

Holly Downing (she/her) has been learning together with children and families for over 15 years, five of which were spent as a teacher and then, director, at Creekside up until January of 2020, when she moved on to a new adventure in education. She spent 18 months working for a local community organization as a specialist in preschool special education and behavioral/mental health support, before being asked to return to Tree House Hollow as Interim Creekside Director. She is thrilled to be back! As a teacher, she enjoys learning from children as much as she enjoys leading their learning, and as a director, she looks forward to every opportunity to collaborate with parents and other caregivers in supporting the development of the children they treasure most. Her approach in the classroom is child-centered, using play opportunities to nurture the interests and learning styles of each child, with a joyful and open heart. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, with a specialization in Early Childhood, and came to Sonoma County in 2014 to work on her Master’s Degree in Early Education. The focus of her studies in both programs has been in children’s mental/behavioral health, and the different ways we can support the diverse learning styles and developmental needs of children. Her specialized areas of education include children’s literature, sensory processing and development, art experiences with young children, and children with special needs. A self-proclaimed hobbit, Holly enjoys rolling up her sleeves to bake yummy things, adventuring into the wild as often as possible, and has a great love for tending to things that grow (both children and the garden, alike).

Interim Redwood Program Director

Amy DeJung (she/her) grew up in San Jose, CA and decided to move to northern California to attend Humboldt State University. While she started her college experience with an interest in studying Environmental Science, she wanted to find a way to combine her love for the natural world as well as working with children. She then decided to pursue a degree in Child Development, with minors in Family Studies and Psychology. She has been working with infants through school aged children for over 6 years in many different settings, including preschools and outdoor science camps. Her favorite part of teaching is learning and exploring alongside the children and making meaningful connections. She loves hiking, roller skating, and discovering new hobbies!

Michaela

Adventure Program Lead, Creekside Teacher

Michaela Mackenzie (she/they) grew up halfway in between San Diego, California and Dublin, Ireland. As a child, she developed a deep fascination with apple seeds – convinced that with enough luck and love that she could sprout an entire tree from a buried half-eaten core. For years she tried and tried again, but not a single tiny green leaf ever popped up. Although her apple tree never grew, her observation of and love for the natural world flourished. After receiving a B. A. in Visual Anthropology, with minors in Studio Art and Queer Studies, from San Francisco State University, Michaela returned to her apple seed planting ways. She spent several years teaching young ones and apprenticing as a farm worker on educational farms – including Fairview Gardens and Slide Ranch – throughout California. Eventually, she hung up her dirty farm boots and moved back to the city to be the garden educator at Argonne Elementary in San Francisco. While working with her kindergarteners, she discovered a true love for early childhood education. Following that love, Michaela went on to teach at Parks Plus Creation, a forest preschool rooted in the heart of the Presidio. As an educator, Michaela works to weave quiet moments of observation with playful moments of storytelling, holding space for children to connect to and to create within the wilds their wandering. She is currently working towards her early childhood education certificate at SRJC. When Michaela is not teaching, she spends her time deepening her plant ally relationships, dabbling in fiber arts, and walking anywhere her feet guide her.

Creekside Teacher

Maya Thompson (they/them) has been studying early childhood development since high school, and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree at Sonoma State University focusing on the many benefits of children’s play. Their passions include children’s inquiry-based learning (asking questions to foster creativity), helping children develop their social-emotional skills, the educational power of guided play in the classroom, and LGBTQ+ equality in young children. Maya has observed and volunteered all over the west coast and taught at summer camps for young children, they have worked with Tree House Hollow for nearly two years (through the COVID pandemic, nonetheless!), and they look forward to helping the children blossom and grow in Tree House Hollow’s little outdoor sanctuary. When they’re not studying or teaching, their free time is spent drawing, singing, and spending time with their spouse Ari and their cat Aspen.

Creekside Teacher

Lili (she/her) received a BA in Psychology from Lewis & Clark College, in Portland, OR. While she was in college, she spent a year interning at OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) with the ECE department, 0-6 years. After graduating from college, she spent two years working at a local charter Waldorf school, SunRidge as an assistant teacher in second grade. Since then Lili has been working toward her Teaching Certificate at Santa Rosa Junior college. She now has twenty ECE credits. Lili interned last year at Tree House Hollow’s younger Campus. She loved her time at Redwood and is excited to be part of the community again. When Lili is not busy with school work she enjoys crocheting, knitting, and cuddling with her cat, Marco.

Alejandra

Creekside Teacher

Alejandra Marquez (she/her) grew up on a ranch in Freestone on an 11 acre farm with lots of space for walking, raising chickens and with lots of fresh fruit to eat such as apples, pears, cherries, grapes, and plums. She started working at a daycare as an assistant when she was younger and knew children were her passion. She received her Teacher Associate Certificate at Santa Rosa Junior College and hopes to continue her education to finish her AA in Child Development. She has been a Preschool Teacher for three years for ages 2 to 5. She really enjoys being outdoors, cooking, singing and dancing with the children. She believes that children learn best when they are having fun and engaged in a curriculum that sparks their interest. She also likes to incorporate Spanish into her daily interactions.

Amanda

Redwood Teacher

Amanda Burwasser (she/her) has been teaching young children for a decade since graduating with a BFA with honors in creative writing from Pratt Institute in her hometown of New York City. Upon relocating to California, Amanda earned her early childhood certification from UCLA and brought her philosophy of children learning through experimentation and play to schools in the Bay Area. In addition, she created her own program, Rhapsody in Rainbows, which allows children to learn about art and music using instruments made by themselves. Amanda is also the author of the six book chapter book series, Project Droid, published by Sky Pony Press.

Redwood Teacher

Madi Leal (she/her) has been an early childhood educator for about 4 years. She has her certificate in Child Development and is currently working on her degree. When Madi is not working, or in school studying, you can find her outdoors. She enjoys going to the beach, swimming in the rivers, going on walks through nature and also loves camping! Other hobbies she enjoys are fishing and going to the archery range.

Redwood and Creekside Floating Teacher

Shana Reid (she/her) began her journey in working with children 13 years ago when she became a mom. Motherhood ignited a passion for learning everything about different educational methods used worldwide that work to support the whole child; mind, body, and spirit. She loves supporting young children in developing their own unique gifts as well as their social/emotional growth. One of her favorite things about this age group is seeing their friendships blossom. She is currently working towards a degree in Psychology as well as a certificate in Child Development. Other passions include being in nature as much as she can (hiking is an obsession), world travel, and petting as many dogs as is humanly possible. If she won the lottery, building an animal rescue ranch is the dream and of course, every child would be welcomed!

Georgia

Redwood Teacher

Georgia Bourdens (she/her) was raised with the freedom to play wild and free in a country home located on the outskirts of Santa Rosa. At the age of 12, Georgia began taking Saturday morning art classes at the Sebastopol Center For the Arts (SCFA). Here, while further developing herself as an artist, she unexpectedly discovered a passion for teaching and working with young children. As a sophomore in highschool she began assisting her same art teacher at the SCFA in an afternoon art class for children. During this first teaching experience, she fell in love with fostering the imagination and creativity within others. After highschool, Georgia attended the Santa Rosa Junior College where she began her education in Early Childhood Development. After earning her associate degree in Humanities, she transferred to Sonoma State University. At SSU she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, focusing on the associated benefits of increasing a child’s time learning and playing in an outdoor environment. Georgia passionately believes that through their art, children reveal the ways in which they perceive the world and how they choose to candidly express themselves in this lifetime. She finds inspiration from their innate ability to create with a limitless imagination and an unbiased perspective. Georgia loves that art will forever be inclusive, giving her the opportunity to connect with every being through color, movement, and emotion. In her free time, Georgia enjoys painting, hoop dance, and basking in the warm sun with her dog Walter.

Operations Manager

Ruth Wilson (she/her) coordinates enrollment, scheduling, invoicing, and budgets. She also helps Megan with a variety of support tasks, from the mundane to the magical. She is mother to Megan and grandmother to Reid and Serena Bee, which is the most fun ever! She has worked as a part of the catalog production and toy invention team at HearthSong, as a floral designer, technical and creative writer, and office manager. She loves to garden, sew, and bake cakes. Ruth enjoys her occasional visits to the campuses where she sees so many smiling faces.

Franny

Founder, Former Director, Volunteer and Substitute Teacher

At the young age of 19 Franny (she/her) began teaching preschool at the request of her child development teacher and discovered it as her life’s work. After receiving her BA and Teaching Credential, with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from Sonoma State University, Tree House Hollow opened in 1981 as a large family child care home in Sebastopol. Franny continued her education and taught child development classes at Santa Rosa Junior College, Merritt and Alameda Colleges in the East Bay before moving the program to the Apple Blossom Campus in 2007. Franny believes creating a community of families is an important aspect of your preschool experience. Since retiring 6 years ago she volunteers once a week when not traveling and enjoys gardening, cooking and singing with the children. Franny teaches Positive Discipline Parenting Classes and continues to have family meetings with her 38 and 32 year old daughters, Maggie and Zoe, their partners, Jamie and Dylan and her husband Glenn.

Maricela

Substitute Bilingual Teacher

Maricela Rodriguez (she/her) was born in Michoacán Mexico. She came to the United States with her family (her four children and her husband) 12 years ago. She has an Associate Teachers Certificate from Santa Rosa Junior College and has more than 7 years of experience working with elementary school aged children in her country. She has worked at Tree House Hollow since 2009. Her four children have attended Twin Hills School District and her youngest daughter luckily also had the opportunity to attend Tree House Hollow Preschool. Maricela loves to share her heritage through teaching curriculum that is both bilingual and bicultural and teach Spanish to the children in their daily interaction. She exudes warmth and humor and believes a curriculum is the most meaningful when it arises from the true interests of the children. She loves cooking with the children, writing story plays, practicing positive discipline techniques, and playing cooperative games that reinforce children’s self-esteem, teamwork, and self-managing skills.

Substitute Teacher

Louie Ferrera (he/him) is a recently retired 20 year veteran of the elementary school classroom. Thirteen of those years were spent teaching first and second grades at Apple Blossom School. Louie and his wife Carol are the proud parents of twins who were students at Tree House Hollow ten years ago! Their family helped move THH from Franny’s house onto the Apple Blossom campus, so, for Louie, it is particularly exciting to be back. One of Louie’s great passions is music. He is an accomplished guitarist and songwriter and has released two cds of original songs. Of course he loves sharing the gift of music with children. Singing had always been an important part of the day during his tenure in the classroom. Look for Louie with a guitar slung over his shoulder heading towards school!

Substitute Teacher

Erica has been working professionally with children and families for 20 years and is happy to be returning to Tree House Hollow. After graduating from SFSU in 2013 with a degree in Sociology she worked for a couple of local non-profits before going back to school at the SRJC to earn her Associate Preschool Teachers certification. Erica values open ended exploration and play in nature with young children as well as making sure children are treated with respect as whole and complete humans. She loves reading, singing and being goofy with kids. In her spare time you can find her hiking, riding her bike and studying to become a Post Partum Doula.

Rhiannon

Substitute Teacher

Rhiannon (she/her) is a Sonoma State student majoring in Liberal Studies. Growing up in Chico, she spent ample time exploring the local parks, and growing food in her home and school gardens. She began working with kids when she was in middle school when she started volunteering in classrooms, and hasn’t stopped since. Over the past ten years she has worked with ages ranging from infants through junior high schoolers in school, camp, and shelter settings. She loves to encourage curiosity in children and help them discover answers to their questions. In her free time she enjoys baking, hiking, and going to museums.

Natalie

Natalie Debode (she/her) has had many passions but none of them have quite felt the same as working with children. From first starting as a nanny, then pastry chef, to preschool teacher, it has felt like she has had many lives. Natalie has worked in childcare for over 10 years, emphasizing Montessori and Waldorf practices, and is now completing her teaching certificate at Santa Rosa Junior College. She is most excited about creating art, and exploring our every day surroundings in nature and in the classroom with the students at Tree House Hollow, She believes in the inquisitive nature of children and strives to nourish children’s curiosity. Natalie has always felt a meaningful purpose when working with children. She is able to make connections with students and build lasting positive relationships. In her free time, Natalie enjoys hiking, painting, creating new recipes and spending time in nature.

Weekends in the family circle should be held without TV and tablets, this will help all family members to get closer. It doesn’t matter how you spend time with your family on the weekend – at home or on the street. The main rule is to plan the weekend in such a way that you can smile and be charged with positive energy all week later.

Every family has its own traditions of spending time on weekends. For some, joint cleaning of the apartment is enough, while others go to visit their parents. But in order for the weekend to pass with maximum benefit and everyone to enjoy it, you need to plan your actions in advance.

For example, if the family has a small child, and the parents want to spend time only together, then you can arrange with one of the relatives to sit with him. Tickets for cinema, theater or other cultural events should also be purchased in advance. If you want to spend the weekend with the kids, then you need to make sure that they do not have their own plans for these days. This is especially true for older children.

    What to do at home?

Recreation is not only going to the movies or going for a walk. You can have a good and useful time at home. For example:

    1. Start your day with a special breakfast.

It is necessary to prepare for the day off from Friday. You should think over the menu, ask the children what they want for breakfast. Let special breakfasts become a real tradition.
    2. Arrange a family photo session.

On the weekends, you can arrange shootings with the participation of all family members. If this becomes a mandatory weekend program, then parents can look at the photo of how their babies grow.
    3. Have an evening of board games.

You can play monopoly, erudite, loto. Currently, there is no shortage of such games and you can find anything in stores. The main thing is to pay attention to the age marking, otherwise the game may seem uninteresting to children or adults. In addition, the board game can be made independently, supplemented with interesting prizes.

What to do in the city?

If the weather is warm and sunny outside, it is better to spend time outside the house. Where to go and what to do? There are many options:

    1. Have a health day.

Rest can be spent with benefit if you start the day with morning exercises and refuse to use harmful products for the whole weekend. You can go with your family to the pool or rent bicycles, roller skates. At the end of the day, take an evening walk.
    2. Visit the entertainment center.

In the mall, you can find recreation for every taste: boutiques for pleasant shopping for adults, playrooms for small children, cinemas, cafes, etc.
    3. Go to the planetarium.

Rest can be more peaceful, for example, in the planetarium. It is not only interesting, but also useful. = You can get acquainted with the solar system, constellations, distant planets.
    4. Visit the museum

. Very informative and interesting lesson, broadening one’s horizons. In addition to the museum, there can be any cultural event.

It is not necessary to have a big budget in order to have fun with your family.

    Recreation outside the city

Outdoor enthusiasts can spend a weekend in nature. Great options would be:

    1. Hike.

Tourism is a great way to unite like a family and strengthen your relationships. You can go to the nearest forest or grove, get out to the lake. Children like such entertainment, as they can play ball and other games, and parents are usually attracted to barbecue in nature. Before the weekend, you need to build a clear route so that it suits all family members. It is not necessary to go all the way on foot, you can partially travel by transport, especially for families with small children who get tired quickly. You should definitely take water, a charged phone with a card and a camera with you.
    2. Kayaking.

One can have a massive fun weekend with family friends. For the first time, it is worth choosing a simple route and a place equipped for spending the night. Tents and kayaks can be rented.
    3. Picnic

is a strengthening of not only family but also friendships, so it can also be spent with family friends. You can breathe fresh air, eat delicious food, talk. In the meantime, the kids run and play enough.
    4. Go to the sea.

If finances allow or the family lives near the sea, then a trip there would be a great option. Rest on the sea, even for a few days, is not only useful, but also very romantic.

Families with small children need to pay special attention to their development. At the age of up to three years, a child can lay all the foundations of a good upbringing, teach a lot.

    Here are some interesting ideas:

    1. Arrange a home performance.

At the same time, not only adults, but also children of any age can take part. Parents must come up with a program in advance, find costumes, draw a poster.
    2. Learn how to do magic tricks and show them to your child.

Such entertainment will shock the baby and plunge him into the world of illusions.
    3. Have a game day.

You can buy beautiful puzzles and collect them with your baby. Play hide and seek or any other game your child likes.
    4. Plant a tree with your child.

Such an activity is not only interesting for the baby, but also useful, because then you can take care of him, water him. Such an activity will develop in the child responsibility and love for nature.
    5. Visit the zoo.

Children are incredibly inquisitive, so it will be interesting for them to look at big animals and feed them.
    6. Fly a kite

. A fun activity that will help parents remember their childhood.
    7. Bake a cake or gingerbread and let your child decorate it

. Such a dish can be presented to dad, who will be proud of the baby.

Where to go with your family? This is a question to which there is no single answer, because each person has his own preferences, hobbies, desires. But there are many general ideas that will help you find the right option. At the same time, most of them are budget ways to have fun with your family.

There are no boring weekends, but there is a complete lack of ideas of what to do with a child. We will show you how interesting it is to organize a holiday with children on the street.

    1. Have a picnic in the park

What could be better than lying down on the grass, breathing in the fresh air and basking in the warm rays? Sunbathing is useful for everyone, regardless of age, and especially for modern “recluses” of offices and apartments. You can have a picnic in the yard, or go to the city park, to the river bank, to the nearest forest. Do not forget to bring delicious treats, as well as a ball, badminton, frisbee.

    2. Become a “jolly postman”

Often we do not have enough time to communicate with relatives and friends, so we can arrange a small marathon with acquaintances. Prepare beautiful drawings with your child in advance for each addressee – grandmothers, aunts, friends of the baby. While the child is busy drawing, call the addressees and find out if they will be at home, warn them about the arrival – let them prepare a symbolic reward for the “postman”, for example, candy or fruit. If you have a car, then in just a couple of hours you will have time to spread postcards to many acquaintances – just don’t linger anywhere.

    3. Master the good old games

Many parents complain that their children hardly spend time outside and play games. Maybe they just didn’t tell the kids about them? Teach your child to jump over an elastic band, draw a hopscotch or a snail, talk about the Cossack robbers and the little ones.

    4. Learn traffic signs

Go for a walk and teach your child about the main traffic signs along the way. Let this not be a boring lecture, but a fun quiz, where rewards are given for correct answers. In general, the topic of the “camping quiz” can be anything, depending on the age of the participant – colors, letters, reading inscriptions, professions, numbers.

    5. Visit a zoo, dolphinarium or aquarium

Here we have combined different options for exploring the world of wildlife – depending on what you have in your city. Such trips are perceived with enthusiasm by children. Maybe the child will like some section in the zoo – the problem of how to take part of the free time will be solved.

    6. Feed the animals and birds in the park

If in the zoo you can only look at animals, then no one forbids feeding the inhabitants of the parks. It can be ducks in the pond, squirrels, and, of course, in any square you will see pigeons. Do not forget to take treats for the animals you are visiting.

    7. Go to the pool or water park

Such water activities are good for everyone: in summer a trip to the water park can compensate for the inability to escape to the sea, and in winter it will remind you of the warm months and relaxation.

    8. Go to the children’s theater

If you have never been to the theater yet, it’s time to make up for this omission! Usually, all information on performances can be found on city posters or on theater websites. Study the repertoire in advance to find something that matches the age and interests of the child.

    9. Visit an amusement park or slot machines

This is a “summer” and “winter” option for recreation. Of course, there are usually more attractions in the amusement park, but it only works during the warm season. Rooms with slot machines for children are always available. Here you can not only shoot and run, but also go to the popular 5D attractions. You just need to carefully choose a movie – small and too impressionable kids may be afraid of a realistic picture.

    10. Arrange a ride, swim, flight

Today children’s toy stores sell cars, helicopters, radio-controlled boats. Many of these toys are quite affordable, and they will cause genuine delight in the child. Such games captivate not only children, but also adults, so be prepared to spend more than one hour driving your “technique”.

    11. Arrange a photo or video session for your child

The most unforgettable weekends often end with the phrase “It’s a pity we didn’t take the camera.” A separate entertainment can be a photo shoot, for example, in a park, on a playground. In order for the child not to get tired, let him change clothes, grimace, take a variety of poses. You can give the baby a children’s camera.

    12. Organize the game “In search of treasure”

Draw on sheet A4 a map, for example, of a playground with the designation “Treasure”. While the baby does not see, hide a small surprise in this place. Tear the sheet with the card into equal parts (for example, into 4 or 6). Come up with competitions on how to earn a piece of the map for the child, for example, guess riddles. After the treasure hunter collects all the pieces of the map, he can put them together and find your surprise.

    13. Launch lanterns into the sky

Today, sky lanterns are very popular, which fly up with bright lights, reminiscent of a miracle. Such an interesting thing will surely delight the child, in addition, he can make a cherished wish by launching a flashlight into the sky.

    14. Make and fly a kite

If you have at least a modest ability to create things with your own hands, invite your child to make a kite. You are in charge of the “engineering” part, and the child can decorate the kite as they wish. On the right day, fly your kite into the sky.

    15. Visit an exhibition, quest or some kind of master class

Weekends can be not only interesting, but also educational if you go to a museum or gallery. Various maters-classes for children are becoming increasingly popular with city mothers: one day you can learn how to cook pizza or chocolates, make some kind of toy or take a painting lesson. Study the city poster – for sure there will be an event that you can visit with your child, for example, some exciting quest in a museum or in the fresh air.

    16. Go fishing together for mushrooms, berries

If your child is big enough, you can take him on a hike to collect the gifts of the forest. Such an adventure will be remembered for a long time, and sound sleep after a day in nature is guaranteed. Hiking in the forest is also a great chance to start collecting your own herbarium.

    17. Take your child to the circus

This place is associated with the holiday, fun, laughter and joy. Surely the child will receive a lot of positive emotions.

    18. Visit a library, bookstore or exhibition

To introduce a child to a book is the responsibility of every parent. A book for a child is a ticket to a magical world of adventure.

    19. Go to a sporting event

It can be serious football matches, hockey, basketball, and junior competitions in sections. Perhaps your child will like some kind of sport so much that he will seriously take a great interest in it.

    20. Build a sandcastle

There is nothing more interesting than building castles, digging trenches in the sand, sculpting sand cakes. Help your child build something grand, like a castle for dolls or soldiers.

We hope that among all the presented options you will find something useful and give your child a wonderful day off filled with emotions and pleasant events. Well, for those parents who, in parallel with planning the weekend, are preparing the next vacation with their children, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with our unique collections all over the world. Perhaps it is on the pages of our site that you will quickly find the resort and those entertainments that you will certainly want to visit with your child.

    How
How often do you spend your weekends? Are you having fun, sleeping or
doing household chores? And do you always enjoy the weekend
do they energize you? It happens that a huge part of the time eats up
routine – washing, cleaning, cooking. As a result, the forces become less and less, and
The weekend wasn’t fun. And if you reconsider your attitude to the weekend
days and dedicate them to communicating with relatives, they will give joy, love and
real vacation. It’s moments like these that create family memories.
stored for years, and help strengthen the family. These tips will help you create
perfect weekend, regardless of the weather and finances.

    1.
    Plan

but such a habit will greatly simplify the matter. It cannot be said that improvisation and
a happy coincidence will not give you pleasant moments. But if you
If you constantly rely on inspiration, you will lose valuable time. Idea
may never appear, the evening will approach, and tomorrow again to work. And again
regrets about wasted weekends that did not give impressions and memories.
Therefore, in the important business of planning a weekend, do not rely on chance, but
do it yourself: figure out what, when and where you will do it. And
    an unforgettable holiday is guaranteed.

    2.
Be prepared for the plan to go unfulfilled

Are you a master at managing your time? Then you don’t
threatened with the collapse of all plans. And in a family with a child, and even more so not one, not
always comes out to accurately calculate the time. You never know how much they will
finish your morning pancakes and change your T-shirt for the fifth time when it’s time
going out. The most important thing is not to let changed plans ruin your
mood. Do not blame anyone and do not change plans: if you did not leave on time, then
save time for other activities. And create an alternative plan B just in case
if inclement weather is not conducive to walks.

    3.
    No household chores

You must have seen such a joke on the net: “And you also
the day when you cook-wash-clean is called a “day off?”. Actually
It’s actually sad, not funny. Why waste precious weekend time with
family for this job? Devote weekends to communication and relaxation, and time to work
at home can be found on weekdays. Dedicate the weekend to the most important thing in life. Decide
What is more important to you: family or routine.

    4.
    Family tradition

Anything can be your tradition, the main thing is to
it was liked by adults and children. Tradition is what will keep you warm
cold evenings and the anticipation of this will give strength during the working week.
Watching old cartoons, drawing, baking cookies, reading fairy tales under
hot cocoa – choose your choice and enjoy.

    5.
    Looking for adventure

Whether they are real or fake,
thoughtful or spontaneous, dangerous or frivolous, in the forest, in the yard or in
apartment. It all depends on your imagination, and you can arrange
an exciting adventure for the whole family. Walk in an unfamiliar part of town
look for treasure, save an antelope from a lion attack, dress up as Indians and
kindle a fire in the country. Relax and you will enjoy too
    such childhood adventures.

    No smartphone

It is difficult to imagine our life without modern
gadgets: calls, photos, Internet, many programs for work and entertainment.

nearby to answer a call or message when you get bored – log in
    network…

Let your smartphone rest on the weekend too, leave
gadgets and enjoy real life. Warn family and friends when
you can call, find an interesting book in paper form, notes
do it in regular notepad. Music can stay – to create an atmosphere
    relaxation.

“How to spend a day off with a child.”

Each family has its own way of spending the weekend. But in most cases, it looks like this: mom and dad are busy with their own business, the children are watching cartoons or sitting at the computer. This not only has a bad effect on the health of preschoolers, but also has a negative impact on parent-child relationships; the thread of friendship and trust is lost between parents and children. At the stage when the children are still small, this is not so scary, but when the teenage period comes, the parents will begin to reap the benefits.

After all, weekends can be fun and beneficial for the whole family. Spending time together brings the family together, and also makes it clear to the child how important he is to mom and dad. But, do not forget about the child’s regimen, because after the weekend weekdays will come and the child will go to a preschool institution, where it will be easier for him to adapt to the new “working week” if the home regimen coincides with the kindergarten one.

In any weather and in any financial situation, you can have fun with your family.

These can be trips to nature: just walks in the park or you can go hiking, since there are enough sights and monuments of nature in our region. It will be interesting to walk through the forest for mushrooms or just admire nature and breathe the air. In autumn, it is very fun to collect unusual leaves, then collect them in a herbarium. At any time of the year, you can go fishing with the whole family, even if you are not lucky with the catch, you will be provided with a charge of vivacity and good mood. Especially, fishing will help strengthen the father-son relationship. Mom, at this time, can draw landscapes with her daughter that will be around or prepare a table for a family picnic. Perhaps someone is attracted to sports recreation: badminton, football, volleyball … this can be done on the playground. Or you can arrange family sports competitions with other families. This will not only help improve the health of the child, strengthen parent-child relationships, but will also have a positive effect on the child’s ability to communicate with adults and peers. You can go on a trip on bicycles, now there is a large selection of child seats that are mounted on an adult bike. In the winter season, the family will be united by building snow castles or skiing down the hill, which will be previously built together with the child. Skating is now possible not only in winter, but also in summer, thanks to indoor skating rinks, which are available in almost every major city.

If the family prefers a cultural holiday, you can go to a museum, exhibition, theatre, cinema or zoo. There the child will receive not only positive emotions, but also new knowledge.

If the weather outside the window is not at all happy, you can limit yourself to the house.
