AMERICA’S MOST ACCREDITED
We’re so proud!
Nationally only 10% of daycares are accredited – nearly 100% of our learning centers are. That’s a big difference,
and that means KinderCare kids are getting the very best. Here’s why.
SCHOOL-READY
What Learning Looks Like
Our talented early-childhood teachers set kids down the path toward becoming lifelong learners in a positive, safe, and nurturing environment.
Taunton KinderCare Programs
Infant Programs (6 weeks–1 year)
Leaving your baby in someone else’s care is a big step. Everyone at our
centers—most importantly, our naturally gifted infant teachers—will work with
you to make sure the transition goes smoothly. When you step into our infant
classroom, you’ll see how much we want your infant to feel safe, loved, and
ready to explore their world.
Toddler Programs (1–2 Years)
Everything in our toddler classroom is designed for little explorers. That’s
because a lot is going on at this age. When your child is wandering all over the
place, that means they’re learning and discovering new things every day. We’ll
help them explore their interests (and find new ones!) as they play and learn.
Discovery Preschool Programs (2–3 Years)
This age is filled with so much wonder and curiosity. That’s why we offer a ton
of books and toys and bring artwork down to kids eye level. Children in
discovery preschool also begin to learn how we all work together in a
classroom. Simple math and science, pretend play, and group play help them
get used to a more structured school setting.
Preschool Programs (3–4 Years)
This age is all about expression, when kids really start to form their own ideas
about what they want to play and how they want to create. Every day in our
preschool classroom, your child will explore science experiments, create
artwork, and play pretend—all the skills needed for their big next step:
kindergarten!
Prekindergarten Programs (4–5 Years)
When you walk into one of our pre-K classrooms, you’ll see artwork and
writing displayed around the room. Labels are everywhere to help kids connect
letters with words. You’ll also see pictures on the walls that reflect the families
in our community. Your child will also deepen their knowledge in language,
math, science, Spanish, and social skills.
School Break Programs (preschool, prekindergarten, and school-age)
Winter break, spring break, summer break—when school’s out (but you still need to work), you
can count on KinderCare to provide a safe and supportive learning environment that’s focused
on fun. We welcome children ages 5–12 during school break times and make sure they have a
sensational, screen-free experience they won’t forget.
Learning Adventures – Enrichment Program
Cooking Academy™ (3 – 12 Years)
In Cooking Academy, kids learn new recipes from cultures around the world and
develop a healthy relationship with food. They’ll whip up everything from Southwest
rainbow lettuce wraps to pumpkin muffins, building their skills in STEM, communication,
and more along the way. And yes—little chefs get to eat their culinary creations!
Phonics Adventures® (2 – 4 Years)
Learning how to read is a whole lot of fun at KinderCare! We help kids grow to love
books and words (and get ready for kindergarten) in our Phonics Adventures program.
From discovering the basics of vowels to practicing poetry, kids learn all about letters
and sounds in small-group lessons made just for their age group. (Bonus: Kids who
attend our phonics program are more prepared than their peers for school—and we
have the data to prove it.)
Our Teachers
We’re the only company in early childhood education to select teachers based on natural talent. Being a great educator isn’t enough though.
KinderCare teachers are also amazing listeners, nurturers, boo-boo fixers, and smile-makers. Put more simply,
we love our teachers and your child will, too.
Meet just a few of our amazing KinderCare teachers!
A KINDERCARE TEACHER WITH
An Artist’s Heart
“My classroom is full of art!” says Mary Annthipie-Bane, an award-winning early childhood educator at KinderCare. Art and creative expression, she says, help children discover who they really are.
We put our best-in-class teachers in a best-in-class workplace. We’re so proud to have been named one of Gallup’s 37 winners of the Great Workplace Award.
When you put great teachers in an engaging center, your children will experience
an amazing place to learn and grow.
Family Stories

I feel so comfortable and at ease when I drop off Lucas. I am not sending my child to just a “daycare”, he is getting an education. I am so impressed with how much he knows and how much he loves going to school. It’s to the point that he gets upset with me if I pick him up early, he likes to stay and play. Julia misses going to KinderCare so much. Although she loves being in Kindergarten, she has such fond memories of KinderCare. With your Phonics Adventures Program, Julia is an above average reader for her class. I credit that all to KinderCare! Although we read a book every night, there is no way she would be at the level she is at without KinderCare. I am beyond impressed an I am so happy that I made the choice to send my children to your learning center!
Thank you for all that you do for my children and all of the other children that attend. All of your staff is always so pleasant and patient with the children. Having two children, I know first hand the struggles of kids at that age. I have no idea how you do it, but I am so happy you do.Stacy – KinderCare Parent

At age three-and-a-half, my daughter tried Ms. Dineen’s Cooking and Phonics classes. She had fun in both, so I enrolled her. The smaller group of children and more individualized attention is the ideal learning environment. Ms. Dineen makes it so much fun that learning comes more easily. I am so pleased at how much my daughter has learned over the past six months. Her writing, reading and comprehension skills have all improved.
I urge everyone to give the Phonics and Cooking classes a try. My daughter and I enjoy cooking the recipes at home, as well.
Thank you, Ms. Dineen!Angela – KinderCare Parent

FAQs for finding daycares in Taunton
In 2022 what type of daycare can I find near me in Taunton, MA?
There are a variety of daycares in Taunton, MA providing full time and part-time care. Some daycares are facility-based and some are in-home daycares operated out of a person’s home. They can also vary in the degree of education and curriculum they offer. Additionally, some daycares offer bilingual programs for parents that want to immerse their children in multiple languages.
How can I find a daycare near me in Taunton, MA?

What questions should I ask a daycare provider before signing up?
As you visit daycare facilities in Taunton, MA, you should ask the providers what their hours are so you can be prepared to adjust your schedule for drop-off and pick-up. Reliable Snow Raptor
Tauntons are the name given to the snow lizards that inhabit the windswept snowy plains of Hoth. When the Separatist Alliance established Echo Base on the planet, the engineers were unable to adapt the speeder engines to work in the cold. Having tamed the swift lizards, the rebels put patrolmen on their backs and did not lose. But even hardy horses, well adapted to the cold Khotian days, do not always endure deadly night frosts.

So we booked this place as we needed somewhere for 2 nights, to extend a short break on the coast . Our primary needs were a pool (for our granddaughter ), breakfast and dig friendly. This place offered all this. With the breakfast included rate this was a good value. We were also able to book swim sessions everyday we stayed. Good size pool and clean spacious changing rooms. Located just off the M5 , on the way in to Taunton , so we’ll located for north and south coast as well as example . We were pleasantly surprised and I would definitely stay here again.

How terrible “death squadrons” terrorized the whole country for several decades.
They were called Tonton Macoutes, and this strange, alien word from the mythology of a distant tropical country became a household name on the whole planet. The members of these paramilitaries themselves liked to compare themselves with zombies – not living, but not dead creatures that cannot be killed. The inevitability of terror, impunity, extreme cruelty allowed the militants to keep millions of people in fear, but in the end their time has passed. The Tonton Macoutes were the offspring of one of the most odious dictatorships of the last century, a dream of the mind of a caricature “king” who imagined himself to be a god. The History of the Haitian Death Squads in an Onliner Review.
The most persistent anti-communist
In August 1956, Haiti, the Caribbean state that shared the island of the same name with the Dominican Republic, was preparing for the next elections. On this occasion, and against the backdrop of regular popular protests, an amnesty for dissidents was announced in the country. Among those who took advantage of this opportunity to get out of hiding was Dr. Francois Duvalier. “Doctor” in this case is not some kind of honorary title: Duvalier was really a doctor, received a good education by Haitian standards, underwent an internship in the USA, and in the second half of 19In the 1940s, he even served as the country’s Minister of Health for some time. But since 1950, he was forced to hide, but after 6 years he took full advantage of liberalization. This seemingly intelligent man turned out to be an outstanding populist. Skillfully playing on hostility (and “hostility” in this case is a very mild term) between the black population of Haiti and the mulattoes living there, he was able to win the presidential election in October 1957 and for 14 years, until his death, hold the presidential chair with a stranglehold, cracking down with any applicants.
However, his reign was just another bloody page in the history of unfortunate Haiti. In the 18th century, the island was a jewel in the colonial crown of France. It produced more than half of all coffee and 40% of the sugar that Europe consumed. Fortunes were made on local plantations, but Haiti’s wealth was based on the ruthless exploitation of African slaves. Up to 40,000 people were brought to the island every year, and these figures also indicate that the imported people died just as intensively there. However, unlike slaves in the United States, Haitian slaves had a much earlier chance of freedom. The French Revolution, with its “Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen,” ultimately led to a slave revolt in the French part of the island and the declaration of Haiti’s independence on January 1, 1804. It was a truly historic event. Haiti became the first independent state in Latin America (and the second in the Western Hemisphere after the United States), as well as the first state ruled by former slaves.
Nevertheless, the desired freedom did not bring the expected prosperity to the country. Firstly, the condition for the recognition of its independence by France was the payment of grandiose reparations for the property lost by the inhabitants of the metropolis. Their total amount reached 150 million francs, and although in the end this figure was significantly reduced, Haiti paid the money until 1947. Up to 80% of the state budget was spent on servicing this debt, which hung on the country as a monstrous burden. The second factor complicating her life was the concentration of the richest resources of the island in the hands of a small minority of mulattos. The black population lived in complete poverty, only accumulating hatred no longer for the white French, but for their descendants from ties with black concubines, who seized the colonial heritage into their own hands.
Francois Duvalier took advantage of this, playing on the feelings of the oppressed black majority. He launched an aggressive populist campaign, while becoming very popular among the poor, who later became the mainstay of his regime. The ideology invented by the doctor turned out in the end to be such a bizarre cocktail of contradictory positions that there was nothing to even compare it with. Political scientists had no choice but to come up with a separate term for the regime created in Haiti – duvalierism.
So, on the one hand, Duvalier declared himself the most staunch anti-communist of the planet, using the appropriate rhetoric to the fullest (this provided him with support from the United States), on the other hand, for the target audience (all the same black poor), the slogans of revolution and social justice (i.e. conditional “dispossession” of rich mulattos and redistribution of incomes of the population). It got to the point that “the most persistent anti-communist” directly compared himself with Lenin. “Black racism” was promoted with might and main, but the cherry on this multi-layered cake was Duvalier’s passion for voodoo mysticism.
Duvalier and his wife
It was not only about the use of voodoo, traditional African beliefs for Haiti, mixed with Christianity. It seems that Duvalier actually believed in his exclusivity, associating himself with Baron Saturday, one of the most revered and at the same time terrifying voodoo spirits associated with the cult of the dead. Even in his everyday behavior in public, he tried to cosplay Baron Saturday, dressing in black, deliberately slowing down his movements, speaking in an ominous whisper. Voodoo sanctuaries in Haitian villages and towns became the regime’s propaganda outlets, and clerics were invited to presidential receptions. Even for himself, Duvalier personally came up with a nickname that is understandable among the people – Papa Doc.
The power of the personal guard created by Papa Doc, which essentially replaced both the police and the army, and also acted as “death squadrons”, was based on voodoo superstitions. Shortly after Duvalier came to power in Haiti, the Tonton Macoutes appeared there.
Image of Baron Saturday
Caribbean vampires
Duvalier spent six years in hiding, but, having received an amnesty and becoming president, he began to act not just by the same methods. He tightened them up a lot. Political trials of the opposition were launched immediately. The state apparatus has been cleared out. Presidential rivals sent into exile. The reaction followed immediately. March and July 19On the 58th (less than a year into Papa Doc’s presidency), two military coup attempts took place in the country. Born in an army environment, they ended in failure, but forever convinced Duvalier of the unreliability of the former power structures. He decided to create his own formation, participation in which was based primarily on the principles of unconditional personal loyalty. Officially, the unit was called the National Security Volunteer Militia, but its employees were called only Tonton Macoutes.
Taunton is a character from Haitian folk mythology: an evil uncle who kidnaps naughty children by pulling a jute bag (makut) over their heads and then eats them. It is clear that such a nickname did not arise from scratch. The terrorist practices that the Tonton Macoutes used were quite consistent with the Creole myth.
This structure, which was exclusively subordinate to Papa Doc, recruited young people from the black poor. For the vast majority of them, this was the only chance to escape from hopeless poverty and constant hunger, and this rapid social lift ensured absolute loyalty to the dictator. They were not paid a salary, the Tonton Macoutes existed on a self-sustaining basis, but at the same time they received an indulgence for violence. This was reminiscent of the oprichnina of the times of Ivan the Terrible, only if the Russian tsar gave individual cities with volosts to his “dogs” to “devour”, then in Haiti the Tonton Macoutes “milked” the whole country.
Their detachments, dressed in a kind of uniform (denim shirts, hats, often black glasses), were essentially engaged in legalized racketeering, collecting a “voluntary tax” for public needs from the remnants of Haitian business. In fact, the needs were to provide for the Tontton Macoutes themselves, their families and officials, who constitute the backbone of the Duvalier regime.
The task of the structure was the absolute terror of dissidents. Young people who have received a monopoly on violence, who only yesterday had no prospects in life, suddenly turned out to be the stewards of the destinies of civilians. The brutal suppression of popular protests, the kidnapping and murder of imaginary and real opponents of the dictatorship with a public demonstration of mutilated corpses should have sowed an atmosphere of horror in the country, depriving its inhabitants of the will to resist and even a hint of the thought of some other “leader of the nation”. The Taunton Macoutes also actively used the voodoo superstitions of the masses, presenting themselves as embodied zombies, creatures that could not be killed. The processions of the Tonton Macoutes were often accompanied by voodoo rituals, and their whole aesthetic reminded the Haitians of a death cult.
However, they also used their position in very real actions connected with the dead. The leaders of the structure launched the trade in corpses for anatomical laboratories and set up the export of donor blood to Europe and the USA. The scandal that flared up on this occasion was called the “Black Blood”, and the long-term leader of the Tonton Macoutes, Luckner Cambronne, was nicknamed the “Caribbean Vampire”.
The fall of the “uncles”
By the end of Duvalier’s reign, the number of Tonton Macoutes reached 20 thousand people. This number turned out to be quite enough to terrorize the entire country and achieve the solution of the main task – the complete neutralization of the opposition. Attempts to overthrow the regime were brutally suppressed, their initiators were repressed or (at best) expelled from the country. There were no opposition parties and media, trade unions, other public organizations on the island, but there were concentration camps and prisons in the assortment, where torture was widely used. Apparently, there was even a special cell for “interrogations with passion” in the basement of the presidential palace.
A complete sense of his own impunity allowed Papa Doc to carry out blatant falsification of his own elections. When, in April 1961, voters came to the polling stations to vote for the new parliament (many were forced to vote by Tonton Macoutes), the ballots, in addition to the names of the candidates for deputies, had an overprint “Francois Duvalier – President.” The next day, it was announced that the parliamentary elections were simultaneously presidential, and Papa Doc was elegantly re-elected president with 100% votes in favor (and 0% against). 3 years later, at 19On the 64th, in a referendum, Duvalier’s powers were extended for life. Consent to this (answer “Yes”) was originally printed on the ballot, the answer “No” had to be entered by hand. Each voter could vote an unlimited number of times.
Fortunately for many Haitians, Papa Doc, although he was a doctor himself, did not take much care of his health and lived much less than he could. In 1971, a heart attack due to diabetes brought Duvalier to his grave at the age of 64. He, like many dictators of his type, took care of a successor in advance, or rather, even an heir. The new president of Haiti was his son Jean-Claude, who, by analogy with his father, immediately received the official “folk” nickname Baby Doc. A separate remarkable nuance was that Duvalier Jr. was only 19years. At the time of the “election” he was the youngest head of state in the world.
Throughout his short life before the presidency, Baby Doc used to deny himself nothing. He was a hedonist and a sybarite, which could not but affect public policy. Taunton Macoutes continued to terrorize the people under him, but less brutally. Their leader Luckner Cambronne, who got into a scandal over the export of donated blood, was expelled from the country. The son also forced his own mother, Simone, the widow of Papa Doc, to emigrate. He even ordered the creation of a separate “Leopard Corps” as an alternative power structure to the Tonton Macoutes.
Baby Doc managed to stay in power for 15 years, even more than his father, but, apparently, brutal cruelty and willingness to do anything to stay in the presidency were not in his nature. The era has also changed. Odious regimes fell even in Latin America and Africa, accustomed, it seemed, to everything. At the end of 1985, mass anti-government demonstrations began in Haiti, attempts to disperse them led to the death of the civilian population, but this did not stop the protests. The Taunton Macoutes, who had previously been the hungry watchdogs of the regime, had already relaxed, settled down and lost their vigilance by that time. February 19On the 86th, against the backdrop of numerous demonstrations by his opponents, Duvalier Jr. chose to flee the country. Approximately $ 900 million, which by that time his family had accumulated due to the “wise” management of their country, helped to brighten up Baby Doc’s hardships of emigration on the southern coast of France.
After the natural fall of the Duvalier regime, many of the Tonton Macoutes were simply lynched by grateful compatriots. The rest preferred to go underground for a while, waiting for revenge. Some successfully waited. The extremely unstable political situation in Haiti led to a constant change of conditionally left and ultra-right forces in power, and the locomotive of the latter was just a number of organizations founded by former Tonton Macoutes. Nevertheless, many militants who decided to terrorize their own people nevertheless suffered a fair punishment. And this is what made it impossible to repeat the atrocities of the time of Duvalier in the future. That is, the lesson was understood even in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Tauntons Macoutes: demset — LiveJournal
In October 1957, after many years of instability in Haiti, Francois Duvalier became president of the country. Speaking from the positions of authoritarian populism and black racism, Duvalier used the traditional hostility of the black masses to the mulatto elite. Militant far-right anti-communism was combined with revolutionary rhetoric about equality.
The Duvalier regime quickly encountered stiff opposition. As early as 1958, an attempt at a military conspiracy was made against him. The rebellion was suppressed by the armed supporters of Duvalier. The president concluded that the army and police were unreliable and created a pro-government militia from ideologically motivated volunteers personally loyal to the president. The penchant of Duvalier and his entourage for mysticism and voodoo cult practices determined the name – Tonton Macoute.
Taunton Macoutes in fearsome masks
The term Tonton Macoute comes from the Haitian myth of the uncle (Tonton) who kidnaps and punishes naughty children by stuffing them into a sack (Macoute) and then eating them. Direct translation: “Uncle with a bag. ” The concept is also associated with the voodoo zombie archetype.
At the level of ordinary consciousness, the tontons-macoutes personified strength, cruelty and invincibility. In their community, they cultivated the principles of the “single family of Papa Duvalier”, which was facilitated by the active practice of voodoo rituals.
The main function of the new structure was the destruction of real and potential opposition. Separately, the task was to ensure the personal security of the president.
The militants were armed with firearms and also used machetes. A distinctive feature of the Tonton Macoutes were sunglasses and hats. They often carried out arrests and round-ups, dressed up in white overalls or masks. Among the illiterate and terrified population, the Tonton Macoutes maintained the myth that they were not living people, but zombies, and they could not be killed.
Detachments were recruited from Negro youth, mostly lumpen or students. Thus, prospects for social growth that were previously inaccessible opened up for the social lower classes. The trusted associates of Duvalier were appointed commanders. The Tonton Macoutes were personally subordinate to the President. They concentrated all the functions of the power structures, pushing the former army and police into the background.
Taunton Macoutes patrol the city streets
The Tonton Macoute formations were the main instrument of the dictatorship used against political opponents. Duvalier Sr. positioned himself as “the most staunch anti-communist” and at the same time compared himself to Lenin. At the same time, the Tonton Macoutes were the inner circle of the dictator and the new elite of the regime. They suppressed protests, kidnapped and killed oppositionists. Both potential opponents of the regime and random people were repressed.
Since they were not officially paid a fixed allowance, the right to legalized racketeering was of particular importance. A system of forced taxation of businessmen was debugged – allegedly for “public needs”, but in reality these funds were a source of income for the Tonton Macoutes and officials.
The use of symbols and the practice of voodoo rituals made it possible to support mass superstitions and rumors about their supernatural abilities. The Taunton Macoutes often used cruel and painful types of murder: they threw stones at the victims or burned them alive, while the bodies of the dead were put on display for intimidation.
The total number of people killed by Tonton Macoutes from 1958 to the beginning of 1986 ranged from 30 thousand to 60 thousand people, thousands of Haitians were forced to flee the country.
It is interesting that in 1963 the commander of the Tonton Macoutes tried to organize a conspiracy against Duvalier, but was shot dead by his subordinates. At the end of the reign of Duvalier Sr., the total number of these formations was about 20 thousand.
François Duvalier died in April 1971. The presidency was succeeded by his son Jean-Claude Duvalier. The initial statements and some actions of the new president gave the impression of a certain liberalization of the regime.
In 1973, Duvalier Jr. established an alternative power structure – the Leopard Corps, which was transferred to counter-insurgency and police functions. “Leopards” were subject to state military discipline, while recruiting there was an educational qualification. The role of the regular army has also increased.
The previously uncontrolled arbitrariness of the Tonton Macoutes was somewhat limited. But even at the same time, they remained the main, although no longer the only structural power center.
January-February 19In 1986 Haiti was gripped by mass anti-duvalierist demonstrations. The Taunton Macoutes and the Leopards tried to suppress them, but the protests grew and grew stronger. Ultimately, the protesters were supported by the US army command and administration. On February 7, Jean-Claude Duvalier left the country.
After the fall of the regime, the Tonton Macoutes were forced to go underground. Many of them became victims of lynchings. Others fled Haiti. At the same time, a considerable number of them entered the army and police of the new authorities.
In July 1987, a massacre of 150 peasants took place in the village of Jean-Rabel. It is attributed to the Tonton Macoutes.
Further sharp internal political struggle in the country quickly made the skills of the Tonton Macoutes in demand. Various politicians used people from this structure to punish their opponents. The military junta of General Raul Cedras, which seized power in Haiti at the end of September 1991, relied heavily on this force. The far-right Front for the Development and Progress of Haiti was called a “clone of the Tonton Macoutes”. May 19For 94 years, hundreds of Tonton Macoutes staged a demonstration in the capital under the slogan “Duvalier or death!”
In October 1994, with US military support, President Aristide came to power. The former Tonton Macoutes formed the vanguard of the opposition forces.
In February 2004, Aristide was overthrown with the active participation of the Tonton Macoutes.
