PROGRAMS & SERVICES
Our infant care provides nurturing, personal care to help build your infant’s self-esteem. We adapt to each child’s uniqueness to make sure each child is being cared for in the best way possible according to their personal needs and wants. We provide a safe environment for your infants to move about freely developing large-motor skills.
Each infant room, ranging from six weeks to 12 months, has a sleeping area separate from the classrooms. The sleeping areas have large glass windows so the sleeping infants can be observed at all times.
Social interaction is key for two to two and a half year olds. A lot of activities provided in these classrooms are focused around socialization through play. Some areas of play include language, art, sensory, music, movement, dramatic play, gross and fine motor, and self-help skills.
The two classrooms provided for this age group are separated by a changing area as well as child-sized toilets for potty-training. Teamwork is a big part of potty-training, making sure what is happening at home is consistent with potty-training in our classrooms.
Sunny Day Child Care & Preschool is a W4K Community Partner with the Waupaca School District. Our center offers two 4K sessions, a morning session from 7:50-11am and an afternoon session from 11:50-3pm. Our 4K site has a Wisconsin Licensed Preschool Teacher and Teacher Aide. Our site follows the District’s highly researched, play based curriculum Teaching Strategies, and is based on the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards. Our Mission as a collaborative community is to ensure quality learning experiences for our four-year-old children now and in the future.
In 2013, Sunny Day purchased a 13 passenger van we have named, The “Giddy Up” Van. We have used it for a number of things from shopping for the center to transporting staff and children to different events. Some of the activities we have provided transportation for have been smaller fieldtrips and transporting staff to different classes to further their education. We transport children to and from Tiny Treasure’s Preschool in Waupaca and other community-based activities such as gymnastics, soccer camp, and swimming lessons. We are always open to suggestions for future activities for your children to be involved in as a courtesy to our Sunny Day families.
Our one-year-old room is very unique. We are starting to prepare them for a scheduled routine once they turn two. They are transitioning onto sleeping mats and are eating meals around the same time as the older children in the building, however, they are very much on their own schedule. Just like the infant room, we adapt to their needs and wants individually and provide quality care for each child. Their large motor skills are very important at this age which makes playtime a big part of their day. Themed units and lesson plans are introduced to this age group for a variety of daily experiences.
ABC’s and 123’s are just the beginning of what Sunny Day has to offer! Preschool at Sunny Day is provided for children ages 3-5 years old. We provide multi-age curriculums to guide your child throughout the preschool years. This allows your child to move from one developmental stage to another within a single program. Themes are provided each week and are the same throughout the building so we can incorporate different activities into our learning. This includes fun meals, fieldtrips, and parties to go along with our themes. Our main focus is preparing the children for their future in a school setting. We do this by guiding development of their social, emotional, and physical abilities throughout their years here at Sunny Day.
Sunny Day provides an after school program both on and off site. Children in kindergarten until the age of seven ride a bus to Sunny Day provided by the school district to participate in after school activities. Although not required, Sunny Day sends a staff member over to the school that gathers the children and rides the bus back to Sunny Day with the children. We believe in complete safety of our children on and off site, and want to assure every child is accounted for. Some after school activities provided at Sunny Day are Some after school activities provided at Sunny Day are, but not limited to; large motor play, games, social interactions with peers and snack time.. Our off-site program is provided for children ages seven to 12 and is located at the Waupaca Learning Center. The activities provided include, but not limited to; homework help, independent learning opportunities, games and snack time.

SUNNY DAY POLICIES
The Board of Directors, along with the Director, establish the policies, hours, and fees for the center. All policies are subject to the rules for licensing by the State Department of Children and Families. The rules must be adhered to in order to provide this child care service to our community.
Complete copies of the policies are available to look over upon request. Below is a summary of commonly referenced policies:
Sunny Day prides itself in offering “flexible scheduling”, allowing families to schedule the amount of care needed for their child(ren) on a week-by-week basis. Parents are responsible for getting desired days and hours of care to the Director by noon every Thursday for the following week’s care. If you do not sign up/schedule for the upcoming week, Sunny Day cannot guarantee there will be care available for your child(ren).
Each child will be granted three “free” cancellation days per year for any reason. There will be no charge for these cancellations. After the three days have been used, you will be charged for the days you sign up/schedule for, regardless if your child(ren) attend that day. If you do need to cancel on a particular day, please do so by 8:15 am.
Activities for the children also include outdoor play. Please have your child dressed appropriately so they may participate in all activities offered. All children are expected to go outside during outdoor play time. If you feel your child is too sick to go outside, they are probably too sick to come to Sunny Day – we do not have extra staff to care for an individual child to stay inside.
Children coming before 8am may bring their own breakfast to eat. Breakfast (around 9AM), lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided each day.
Medication will be given to a child only after parents complete and sign an authorization form. Medication must be brought in its original container. Tylenol cannot be given to control a fever. If your child has a fever over 101 degrees, is vomiting, or has diarrhea, they need to stay home. We appreciate your cooperation. Please inform the center of any contagious illness your child develops. This must be posted to let other parents know what symptoms to look for (your child’s name will not be posted).
Enrollment is open all year to children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Children who are enrolling must have a medical health exam and fill out an immunization form, as required by the Wisconsin Department of Health.
Absences due to lay-off, major illness, new baby, etc. need to be discussed with the Director of the center. This is due to high enrollment, financial responsibilities, and a waiting list of children.
Parents are responsible for bringing their children to their classroom and for taking the child home, unless the Director or Teacher has been notified of different arrangements. Proper identification will be needed if the staff is not familiar with someone new picking up a child. All children must be signed into the computer at the front desk upon arrive, and signed out upon departure. This gives an accurate count for billing purposes.
The center has an open-door policy. This enables parents and visitors to come to the center at any time during operating hours and observe our program. A tour of the facility is available by making an appointment with the Director or Assistant Director.
Toys may be brought with the discretion of the staff. Sunny Day is not responsible for lost or broken toys. Please refrain from brining toy guns or toy weapons of any kind. We promote nonviolent play.
Any child attending the center for more than 4 hours must lie down for a short rest. Each child must have a sleeping bag, a sheet or blanket to lie with, and a pillowcase or larger bag that is labeled with their name to place their belongings in. They are also welcome to bring a pillow and/or stuffed animal.
