Separation And Philosophy

Our philosophy is progressive, child-directed, and designed specifically for two-threes. Children thrive in our messy, choice-based environment within the beautiful, air-conditioned Corlears School.

Kids at Work lead teachers are career teachers, and most are pursuing masters degrees in teaching. Assistants are hired with extensive age-appropriate experience.

Please, only send your child to camp if they’ve already had experience with separating in a classroom, in a preschool or day care. All children must be experienced with separation in a classroom environment before coming to camp. Our staffing does not allow for the adequate comforting of separation newbies. That said, our experienced staff will be prepared for children with a limited amount of jitters! We simply cannot provide the attention that separation newbies need whilst providing the dynamic and exciting environment the other children have signed on for!

Kids at Work runs a wonderful gentle separation specifically designed for children undergoing their first separation, at our W20th St studio!

Best Affordable Summer Programs for Kids 2022 –

Regardless of the season, summer is a time for kids to explore the world. But before you can pack up and hit the road, ask yourself this scary question: “What will I be doing with my kids this summer?”

While many day camps and night camps may not yet exist, there are still many great online programs that can be cost-saving or even free.

From cooking classes to reading challenges, these kid-approved summer programs are the best way to fill your time this summer.

As many parents know, the cost of summer programs can be significant, especially if they want to enroll their children in different camps. Luckily, there are options to help keep the price down.

Even as adults, summer gives us a chance to feel like children again. We can relive the fun we had in our youth and create new memories together with our families. The best way to do this is to plan so you don’t have to dig all summer to keep your kids entertained.

What are the summer programs?

Your children have been going to school all this time and you are also going to work. Everyone was busy with their own affairs, and they do it every day, then … the school closed! These are holidays. This is not just a vacation for a few days, it is a long – summer vacation.

You are suddenly stuck with your children (not that, you just have to stay at home to take care of them). There are programs and activities run by reputable organizers to keep your kids busy and have a good time playing with them. These are summer programs.

There is a small problem; summer programs can be very expensive, and when parents try to succeed, many become frustrated or fear the chaos they will wreak on their finances if they go to these programs.

So, below I will consider those programs that are created for a strict wallet.

1.

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are youth organizations in the United States. Both organizations provide programs that promote STEM-related activities using a variety of methods, including hands-on experiments, field trips, and community service projects. Scouts participate as campers, employees, and/or receive merit badges.

The official names of these organizations are Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA, but are more commonly referred to simply as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Both organizations strive to develop leadership skills that can be used throughout a person’s life. Both programs cost $25 per year plus additional fees.

2.

YMCA

YMCA serves 1.4 million young adults and adults annually throughout the United States, including 970,000 children and adults through summer day and night camp programs and over 439,000 young adults, teens, families, schools and retreat groups through group sleepover camp programs.

Prices vary by location and are often open to everyone, with the ability to adjust fees based on income levels. YMCA offers day camps for $25 per day.

YMCA of the Rockies offers these from June 3rd to August 16th for $38 per day.

3.

Sur La Table Summer Series Cooking Classes

Nationwide cooking stores offer five-day summer classes for kids and teens that cost about $250. Courses are available for children from 8 to 12 years old and from 13 to 17 years old.

4.

Montessori Summer School Programs

Montessori camps across the country encourage children’s physical and emotional growth through art, music, science, culture and more.

Prices vary for a 9-week camp in Plainsboro, NJ for children aged 5 to 12, which costs $275 per week plus a $25 registration fee. Visit the main Montessori website for local options.

5.

Sylvan Academic Camps

Sylvan Learning Centers offer a variety of programs to keep children intellectually stimulated as the new school year begins.

One example is the Study Skills camp for 4th to 12th grade students, which costs about 29$9 a week.

6.

What to choose in Russia and abroad

Summer School -2022: what to choose in Russia and abroad

Photo: Albion

Russian children still have the opportunity to usefully spend the upcoming holidays in summer schools both in the country and abroad. What directions, centers and programs can be recommended, RBC + was told in the Albion educational company.

Russian families have fewer options to combine their child’s summer holidays with studying abroad. But they remain, for example, you can go to proven international summer schools in Switzerland or the United Arab Emirates. And you can feel like in England, studying English with native speakers and mastering the British STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics – a block of academic disciplines in the field of science, technology, engineering, mathematics) in the beautiful corners of the Moscow region and the Golden Ring. Or implement both options of the trip at once – to Russian and foreign summer schools.

Where Russians are expected

For two and a half years we have already got used to the fact that a trip abroad is a kind of quest. Recent events have added new challenges.

However, many summer schools and camps abroad are still available for children from Russia. This summer, Albion, an educational company that usually offers a wide range of vacation programs around the world, has concentrated on only the most reliable and proven centers, mainly in two countries – Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. Summer programs are being prepared in Spain and Cyprus.

You can get to Dubai by direct flight from Moscow, you do not need to apply for a visa – it is placed at the airport and allows you to stay in the country for 90 days. There are no direct flights to Switzerland and other European countries, you will have to fly with a transfer. The most convenient thing now is with a stop in Istanbul, using the service of accompanying children when transferring from flight to flight.

Buying tickets with a flexible fare allows you to quickly reschedule or cancel a flight, and at any time and subject to any changes. Albion sends children abroad only on regular flights. Today it is more expensive than in pre-crisis and pre-crisis years, but the main thing is safe and reliable.

The company works only with those foreign educational centers that proved to be excellent last summer, when it was necessary to find a balance between covid restrictions and the quality of programs. And now they maintain the spirit of internationalism and an unbiased attitude towards each student.

Theoretically, British summer schools, beloved by many, are open to Russians. But the current unpredictability of UK visa times makes the trip risky.

It remains to wait for the moment when the situation will change and the international summer schools will again become the platform from which the reconciliation process will begin. As it was already once after the Second World War. Then the idea arose in the United States to introduce and make friends the children of former enemies, to help them find a common language and start a new life – without hatred, with an open heart and a desire to understand who is nearby.

The first such center opened in Detroit in 1951, when 75 German teenagers were taken in by volunteer families. And four years later, American children spent their holidays in the vicinity of Hamburg. In subsequent years, the geography of international educational programs expanded to include North and South America, Western Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. Children traveled to unfamiliar countries, learned the language, lived with local families, made friends among their peers.
Over time, such trips have become an obligatory attribute of summer holidays for many families, and so it was until recently with us. However, even now this tradition has not been interrupted. If you can’t go to England, you can choose Switzerland or Dubai, perhaps soon Cyprus and Spain.

Summer in Switzerland

Switzerland today can be considered the main foreign direction of summer educational trips for Russian schoolchildren. Since May 2, the country has opened its borders to all foreign tourists, canceling tests, vaccine passports and other covid restrictions. The Swiss Visa Application Center in Russia accepts documents for tourist visas in the same order with a processing time of ten working days.

You can go to Switzerland with the whole family: while the children are busy with a rich summer camp program, parents can spend time in health and spa centers, relax in the Alps or on the shores of Lake Geneva, visit famous resorts, visit neighboring French Evian, wander through the streets of Lausanne and Montreux.

Based on the combination of factors such as safety, reliability, benefits for physical and mental health and the variety of summer programs, Switzerland, according to Albion consultants, is in first place for Russians today.

In addition to learning one or more foreign languages, Swiss summer schools offer a wide range of activities to choose from: sports, creativity, various academic and applied subjects, the development of useful skills combined with outdoor activities and excursions.

For example, in the town of Montreux, chosen by many artists and writers, children are waiting for the morning lessons of English and French (and, if desired, also entertaining mathematics), and then they can choose from as many as 50 types of activities. For the most courageous daredevils in the same school there is a special two-week program “100% adventure”. It includes karting, rafting, flying, rock climbing, visits to the water park, jump park, fairy cave, Chillon Castle and much more.

Photo: Albion

Another school is located in the resort town of Villaret, at an altitude of 1250 m above sea level. She is ready to accept even kids from five years old. For each age group, the school has developed its own program. This is almost a family camp, where there are two children per adult. The first half of the day is also devoted to the study of languages - French or English, and in the afternoon, active recreation and themed clubs are provided. There are many options for activities in the Alpine expanses. These are water sports on a mountain lake, football with the coaches of the Spanish club “Valencia”, riding and tennis lessons, descent into the caves, karting and much more.

In the German and Italian parts of Switzerland there are summer schools with their own “national” characteristics. First of all, it is language. German or Italian is added to the compulsory English, respectively. In addition, additional classes that may not be available in other camps. So, in the Swiss summer school, located between Zurich and Lucerne, these are natural sciences and technologies, business and leadership, creativity and art. And at the American summer camp in Lugano, children will be offered to learn the basics of theater, music, architecture, design and fashion, or improve their playing and ball skills with the coaches of the Milan Football Academy.

Summer schools in Switzerland for children and teenagers from different countries run from June 25 to August 13, the duration of the shift is from two to six weeks, the age of participants is from six to 18 years.

Summer in Dubai

The Dubai International Summer Camp, located on the basis of the educational complex, opens on July 3rd and will accept schoolchildren 7-17 years old until September 1st. The duration of the shift is three weeks. At the disposal of the participants is an infrastructure with an impressive territory, many modern classrooms and laboratories, a conference hall, a sports and entertainment center, restaurants, cafes and residences.

The program includes English lessons and a variety of courses on school subjects and interests. You can choose math, science, foreign languages, music, art or useful skills – what is now called “skills”.

Classes are held five times a week, in the morning. The rest of the time is devoted to recreation and entertainment: excursions, swimming, sports, electives, exhibitions, festivals, competitions, parties, trips to amusement parks, jeep safaris, barbecues in the desert.

In Dubai, as in Switzerland, you can go with the whole family. By sending a child to a summer school and keeping him company on a trip, parents get the opportunity not only to relax, but also to assess the prospects for doing business here, buying real estate or obtaining a residence permit. Favorable conditions for life, work and education have long attracted foreigners to the Emirates, including educated and wealthy ones – there are more of them than local residents.

Photo: Albion

Education is one of the main priorities of the Emirate of Dubai. Currently, 25% of the budget is spent on creating a modern educational environment. In terms of the number of branches of foreign schools and universities, the UAE is second only to China. Educational institutions from all over the world are represented in the Emirates – British, American, French, Swiss, Australian and other schools and universities, including recognized leaders in international education. Three universities in the UAE are included in the top 500 universities in the world, the best schools, both international and local, are extremely selective in the selection of students (it is difficult to enter without preparation), offering in return quality education according to world standards.

English summer in the suburbs of Moscow

If a long trip has to be postponed until better times, there is an alternative to a useful vacation and closer. Already at the beginning of June, the exclusive Albion + program opens on the basis of summer schools in beautiful places near Moscow and the Golden Ring.

Several country hotels and boarding houses with comfortable infrastructure are involved in the project. But the main thing is a program that is close in content to what is usually offered in the best foreign vacation centers. It was developed by Albion and will be controlled and monitored by the company.

In addition to English and French courses with native speakers, participants will have intellectual training sessions in STEM subjects that develop thinking and analytical skills. They will be led by senior students and graduates of the best Russian universities – Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow State Technical University, Moscow Power Engineering Institute. They will offer tasks that will make children think, turn on their imagination, break stereotypes and get out of their comfort zone. This is a good preparation for studying abroad, and for participating in Olympiads in Russia. Fundamentals of programming and robotics, mathematical logic, natural sciences, tasks for the development of spatial and critical thinking are just some of what is included in the program. Then, during the academic year, you can continue such classes in Moscow, at the Albion site.

The list of subjects and the intensity of classes depends on the place and time of the Albion+ program. But in any scenario, mental stress will be combined with physical activity, games, entertainment, creativity, competitions and outdoor recreation.

The program will last until the end of August, it is designed for schoolchildren aged 7-17. The duration of the shift is two to three weeks. You can choose one of four out-of-town locations: a boarding house in the picturesque surroundings of Zvenigorod along New Riga, a 4 * tourist complex in the Pereslavl-Zalessky conservation area, an eco-village with log cottages in a pine forest on the border of the Moscow and Vladimir regions, or a 4-star spa hotel “Mercury” along Dmitrovsky highway. In Zvenigorod there will be the most intensive academic part of the program with all the components listed above. In other centers it will be possible to relax comfortably and improve English, adding also intellectual classes.

Photo: Albion

And if you wish, you can combine the plains near Moscow, and the Swiss peaks, and even the oriental fairy tale of Dubai, by issuing, for example, a June trip to Verbier, a July trip to one of the centers of the Moscow region, and then a shift in the United Arab Emirates . In this or any other order.

The purpose of the Academy is to develop the necessary language skills in a child, to give him the opportunity to reveal his talents through projects, presentations, creative tasks and learn something new about the world around him.

Features of the summer language courses of the BKC-IH training center

Communication in English

We use a unique communicative technique, which is aimed at mastering conversational skills. This approach to learning English is recognized as the most effective around the world and is used in many educational organizations abroad. The child will quickly immerse himself in the language environment and master spoken English.

Intense lessons and different formats

We have chosen different formats for summer classes: for the youngest, these are game practices, for older children, narrow directions, taking into account their interests. In our courses, children watch films, listen to and read books, sing, dance, draw, listen to music, prepare and defend projects. Kids and teens will definitely enjoy it.

Reviewing what they have learned

Often in the summer, children forget everything they learned in the previous school year. But summer language courses will help not only to remember the completed program, but also to learn additional material.

Quick result

If you actively study the BKC-IH summer program for a month and follow the recommendations of the teachers, the child will significantly improve his English language skills.

Broadening their horizons

Summer courses not only teach grammar and improve speaking skills. We build classes in such a way that the child learns something new about the world around him every day.

Active summer holidays

The child does not spend the whole summer at the computer, but is among peers and experienced teachers. It is not like an ordinary school: children relax and study at the same time, easily immersed in the interesting world of the English language.

The best teachers

The program is taught by qualified teachers with international DELTA and CELTA certificates. We are confident in the quality of the knowledge that our teachers give, because BKC-IH has a strict selection of teachers and multi-stage testing. Many of our teachers are native English speakers.

Video games

The course is offered offline and online. The program is based on the favorite games of modern children. For many parents, a child’s passion for computer games is a real problem. But we combine children’s interest in certain games, plots and characters with learning English. On the courses, the guys tell each other about their favorite games, characters and plots in English, prepare projects and defend them.

National Geographic

The course curriculum is based on the LiFE textbook and the National Geographic magazine. In the classroom, teenagers learn the customs and culture of other countries, their history and seem to go on a journey around the world. All this allows not only to improve the knowledge of the English language, but also to learn a lot of new things, to expand your horizons.

Q&A

If the child is not yet learning English, should he sign up for a summer course?

Of course! The level of language proficiency does not matter: you can start learning English with us, even if the child does not know simple words like hello, cat, house, etc. Our professional teachers will help you learn the first words, master the basic skills of writing and speaking.

Each lesson is based on the principle of live communication, and teachers use a variety of materials to make it easier for students to integrate into the language environment.

After the summer courses at BKC-IH, the child will have a first understanding of the English language and will be able to learn it more easily.

The child will not get tired? Still, I want him to rest in the summer.

Summer courses at BKC-IH are completely different from school education. We do not have estimates and a rigid schedule. Classes are held in the form of exciting children’s games, interesting discussions, discussions of topics that really excite the children.
