Pre-Kindergarten Summer Programs – First Things First

This strategy provides access to high-quality, culturally responsive early care and education. It provides classroom experiences for children and their families, who may not have had any preschool experiences, to prepare for the transition to kindergarten.

Regions funding this strategy

Cocopah

The Cocopah Tribe Regional Partnership Council will implement the Summer Transition to Kindergarten Strategy. Upon entering kindergarten, children in the Cocopah Region must attend school outside of the reservation. The regional council is aware that this represents an environment of new experiences at many levels for the children. Additionally, there are children in the region who have not had an early preschool experience and may benefit from a Summer Transition to Kindergarten Program. The intent of the evidence-informed strategy is to provide classroom experiences for children who are entering kindergarten in order to prepare for the transition. The expected result is that children and their families are more familiar with and prepared for the kindergarten classroom environment and the family involvement opportunities and activities offered in school. The strategy will target children ages 4 and 5 and their families living in the Cocopah Region. With this grant agreement, Arizona PBS will implement the PBS KIDS Super Why! Camp curriculum over a series of 24 sessions for 4-year-old children and their parents or caregivers. Arizona PBS is partnering with the Cocopah Head Start, Cocopah Education Department and the Somerton School District to target children during their transition year into kindergarten. Arizona PBS will provide at least half of the sessions on a school campus to help familiarize the Cocopah children and their families with the school setting. Experiencing and becoming comfortable with the physical school location as well as a literacy-focused curriculum, the regional council intends to support a smooth transition to kindergarten.

Pascua Yaqui Tribe

The Summer Transition to Kindergarten Strategy provides classroom experiences for young children without any preschool experiences, as well as for children with social and emotional issues that may need more support. It is also for children with limited preschool experiences in order to prepare them for the transition to kindergarten. In addition, the program provides bus transportation to the children and coordinates services with other family support programs such as the summer meal program. The children also have exciting and interesting field trip experiences and the parents and caregivers participate in parent engagement activities.

Tohono O’odham Nation

The United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona’s (UWTSA) Great Expectations for Teachers, Children, Families and Communities (Great Expectations) offers comprehensive professional development opportunities to the four regions of Pima County; Pima North, Pima South, Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the Tohono O’odham Nation. This grant represents a collaborative effort that involves 14 partners offering 17 Communities of Practice (CoP) that work together to offer meaningful professional development while building an accessible professional development system that includes offering pathways to higher education. The intent of the program is for a better prepared cadre of early childhood professionals to support the young children birth through age 5. One of the CoPs is: Children and Their Learning: Kindergarten Transitions for Tribal Preschool Children – Tohono O’odham Community College.

Graham/Greenlee

The Graham/Greenlee Regional Partnership Council created a partnership with the Gila Valley Community Foundation that funds kindergarten camps in the amount of $25,000 yearly to provide preschool experiences for children in school districts with the highest poverty in the region and who are likely to not have been exposed to pre-kindergarten opportunities.

Giddens Summer Kindergarten Program – Giddens School

Students entering Kindergarten can look forward to a fabulous summer of fun at Giddens Summer BLAST Camp!

Each week new friends, great programs, and fascinating themes make Giddens a great place for children to explore all the fun that summer has to offer.

Our program is organized into two sessions: a MORNING program and an AFTERNOON program.

A FULL DAY registration includes both MORNING and AFTERNOON programs:

  • Our MORNING program is made up of ACADEMY and ENRICHMENT classes.
    • ACADEMY classes are led by Giddens teachers who offer content on a topic of their own interest and passion.
    • ENRICHMENT classes are specialized programs led by our very best enrichment partners.
  • Our AFTERNOON program is theme-based (with specific focuses on science and social studies) and led by highly capable and nurturing teachers.

A HALF DAY registration includes only MORNING programming.

It is our goal to create a robust summer program while maintaining our high standards for risk mitigation. In the summer months, we are excited to take advantage of good weather and be outdoors as much as possible. Students will be grouped according to grade and not mix with other students while indoors. Students will have contact with a morning teacher, afternoon teacher, and a recess/lunch supervisor outdoors. While outdoors, students may interact with other grades while maintaining physical distancing and handwashing protocols. We will be monitoring COVID numbers in our area and may make decisions as we get closer to the summer that slightly change the structure of camp.

All vaccine-eligible students, instructors, and support staff will be required to be fully vaccinated. Families may request an exemption from the vaccination requirement for their student for medical or religious reasons. For students who have a medical or religious exemption, a negative PCR test must be provided before the camp start date for each camp session.

Class sizes will remain small, students will continue to distance, wear masks, wash hands and surfaces frequently, and have ample outdoor time to mitigate risk. Because of this, we have limited space available.

ANIMALS AROUND THE WORLD with Seattle Kids Yoga

Fun fact: Many yoga poses are named after animals. Why? The people who first practiced yoga found that imitating the posture and movements of animals made them feel happy and peaceful in their bodies and minds, so they created yoga poses to represent different animals. Campers will have the same opportunity in this weeklong camp with Seattle Kids Yoga. Through yoga, mindfulness practices, non-competitive games, art projects, and more, campers will meet animals from cats and cows to sloths and pandas, explore animal habitats around the world, learn fascinating animal facts (dolphins sleep with one eye open!) and interesting animal group names (a bask of crocodiles!), and have an opportunity to share their favorite animal. Seattle Kids Yoga instructors design fun, inclusive, and educational classes based on children’s interests and abilities, with the intention of giving them the tools, in a joyful and accessible way, to take yoga “off the mat” and into the world.

Safe summer. MEMO.docx

Today is an important day – today our camp “Smile” has opened! We are waiting for a country of great wonders. Joyfully and cheerfully passed the morning exercises. On the line, the guys traditionally got acquainted with the rules and working hours of the summer camp, the teachers conducted a safety briefing. The guys met with funny bears, visited the drama theater, took part in a quest game and received sweet prizes as a gift. And at the end of the holiday, all the guys actively participated in the insertion of drawings on the pavement.

Today the children visited the SSU swimming pool at the summer playground. The first acquaintance began with an introductory briefing by professional instructors. In the process of classes, the children received a charge of vivacity and energy. And also for the children of the summer camp, a fire safety briefing with an evacuation drill was held.

On the eve of the celebration of the birthday of the great Russian writer and poet A.S. Pushkin, the children visited the children’s library No. 40, where they took part in the literary festival “At the Lukomorye there is a green oak …”

A new week at the summer playground began with the literary and musical entertainment “Pushkin’s Day in Russia” (Russian Language Day). The guys remembered the tales of A.S. Pushkin, Russian folk tales and songs.

Theater of magic and tricks “Scooter” pleased today with its performance “Abracadabra”.
Variety illusion performance for the children of the summer playground was a journey to the land of magic and miracles.

We travel to the sights of our city. We made an excursion to the square of the First Teacher.

Daily security briefings. The children took part in the quiz “Saying “No” to the fire!” “I am a citizen and patriot of Russia”, dedicated to the Day of Russia – an important public holiday.0003

In the modern world, even a child cannot do without basic financial literacy. Keeping up with the times, the teachers of the summer playground held an interactive game “Financial Literacy”.

The children of the summer camp took part in the city inter-camp online festival of national cultures “Commonwealth”. Nomination of the Festival “National arts and crafts”.

Today the guys from the “Smile” camp made an exciting journey through our Galaxy. They landed on Mars on a spaceship, met with the Martians and saw a real steroid. All this and much more was prepared for the children by the Fedin Museum.

June 22, 1941 – one of the saddest dates in the history of Russia – the day the Great Patriotic War began.
On the eve of the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, an hour of courage “Without declaring war” passed at the summer camp.
In the central city library, our children got acquainted with works of art about the war.
Also took part in the All-Russian online action “Candle of Memory”, “Minute of Silence”.

Saratov “pitted” toy, have you heard of this one? There are no analogues to this product. The manufacture of toys was usually the work of a single master, and the sale of such toys was carried out in the markets of Saratov and suburbs. For a long time, this type of art was undeservedly forgotten and is being revived thanks to the master of artistic clay modeling Petr Petrovich Afrikantov. Despite the fact that the manufacturing technology of the toy was partially lost, it is believed that now it has been completely restored.
