Donna Storey Kane

Teacher/Director

Donna has been teaching preschool since she graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education in 1991.  She owned her on preschool/daycare, serving 20 children ages 6 weeks thru kindergarten, for 18 years.  When her children started school, Donna closed her program and went to work in a developmental preschool serving both children with special needs and typically developing.  After adopting a child with special needs, Donna went to work again teaching preschool.

Donna has continued her education beyond her basic degree.  She has 24 credit hours toward her masters in Early Childhood Special Education, been trained in handwriting without tears, get set for school, and is certified by IMSLIC (International Multisensory Structure Language Education Council).  Donna continues to strive to find best ways to teach all children to their fullest potential.

Donna finds way to include the child’s natural world into her curriculum.   She gets to know each child and their interests  and develops activities to help each child reach their fullest potential. She believes in using the natural world around us. Donna is able to stop everything and change gears to explore something happening here and now.  She is not afraid to use the model “I don’t know, but let’s find out” approach to children’s questions.  Donna is extremely excited to start this new preschool adventure with your child!

Jaime Storey Kiesow

Owner/Administrative Director

Jaime graduated from The University of New England in 1998 with a degree in Occupational Therapy.  She opened StoreySmith Pediatric Clinic, PA in 1999 and continues to be the owner and director of the clinic.  The clinic offers occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech and language evaluations for children.  Jaime also owned and directed My School, INC from 2004-2010, a developmental preschool for children with developmental needs and children who were typically developing.

Jaime enjoys spending her free time with her husband and 4 children ranging from 4 to 17 years old.  As a family they enjoy soccer, basketball, baseball and t-ball!  Jaime is beyond thrilled to open StoreyTime Learning Center and Aftercare with Donna!

Sandy Bryant

Teacher – Preschool

Sandy started teaching preschool in 2008.  She also worked on a Child Care Study at Temple University with the National Institute Of Child and Human Development in the 90’s.  Shortly after graduating from Roanoke College, Sandy started out in social work, working with homebound senior citizens.  Sandy continued in this field for 10 years and then stayed home to take care of her three children.

Sandy has loved working with both ends of the age spectrum.  She feels that it has been a great experience to have worked with so many wonderful older people, who have lived a full life.  And now she thinks it is great to get to know the personalities of so many kiddos at the beginning of their life.

Heather Brown

Teacher/Aftercare Assistant Director

Heather Brown has worked at StoreyTime Learning Center since 2017, and with Sandy and Donna for four years prior to StoreyTime opening. She loves working with children and it shows in her kind calm manner she shows all the children. Heather lives in Cumberland with her husband and two daughters. She  loves working in the community in which she lives and watching all the students grow into such wonderful human beings! Along with Storeytime, Heather is also the Assistant Director of the Aftercare program for Mabel I Wilson School.  When not at school, she enjoys going for walks and spending time with her  family.

(no subject)

Dear friends and colleagues,

Unfortunately, the current economic situation has affected us too.

We don’t give up, but when we freeze, we freeze. This means that our educational activities will be suspended from December 7, , and the master class “How to create a plot?” will be the last in the current cycle of our work. We hope to return to you in the spring with new programs, new competitions and new useful tips 🙂 for master class “How to create a story?” , including the amount paid) – we will contact you in the next three days, but you can also contact us at any time at ucheba (dog) bookinstitute.ru.

We are very happy with you. We hope that in the spring our friendship will continue.

Your CA

Summing up. Linor Goralik looked at all your options and chose the winner. poetrynewsdaily :

Dear winner! We congratulate you. Write to us (full name and phone number) to get a prize – a free place in the master class “How to teach your characters to speak?” .

And thanks to everyone. Really good stuff, we enjoyed it.

We received a lot of letters with screams and groans. Like, whoever does not win the competition will not have time to sign up for the master class “How to teach your characters to speak?”. We agreed: we stop accepting entries tomorrow at 14:00 to announce the results at 15:00 . So everyone will have time for absolutely everything, including celebrating victory and mourning defeat.

And – yes, if a non-Moscow user who won’t be able to use the prize wins, it will be possible to transfer it to someone.

Your CA.

We asked the writer Linor Goralik , the presenter of the master class “How to teach your characters to speak?” hold a competition for us. She tried to fight back, but it’s quite difficult. As a result, we received an exclusive Hare Pts. And we announce a contest!

Essence of the competition:

– you take this picture;
– enter your version of the characters’ replicas;
– upload pictures to any hosting;
– post a picture as a comment on this post.

Deadline: until 14:00 November 25, .

Summing up:
– The winner will be announced here on the blog, at midnight on November 25, , and at the master class on November 26, Linor Goralik will demonstrate his version.
– Winner gets free place at any of the nearest master classes, to choose from (“How to teach your characters to speak?” or “How to create a plot?”), if desired – with the right to transfer to a friend.

Let’s go.

UPD At your request we stop accepting entries tomorrow at 14:00 to announce the results at 15:00 . So everyone will succeed.

Writer Linor Goralik will spend master class “How to teach your characters to speak?” (as well as to exclaim, ask again, affirm, take an interest, and even remain silent meaningfully). On this occasion, we, as is customary with us, publish a bonus track for everyone who is now enrolling for this master class.

Below is a selection of ten remarks, monologues and exclamations that any author should definitely avoid. By the way, many other replicas, monologues and exclamations should also be avoided. But if you go through your text and deal with at least this ten, your karma will already improve to a very significant extent. So:

Better keep quiet: 10 lines that any character can ruin any text

  1. – Where am I? He groaned heavily, slowly regaining consciousness.
    Dear author! Please kill yourself against the wall. No, we mean – in the most direct way: run, for example, and slam your head into the wall as you should. Please make such a sacrifice: art requires sacrifice, doesn’t it? ‘Cause after that you can0364 slowly regaining consciousness , fix: a) whether you are wheezing at least something or at first you are still trying to come to this very consciousness; b) and what, really right away “Where am I?”
  2. “Don’t you see that I love you?” he whispered passionately into her face.
    You know, this is purely human: if someday someone whispers something passionately in your face, run away from him. Turn your face away and run in the direction in which it faces – that is, away. This man is hysterical and a psychopath. And one more thing: remember, have you ever said the phrase “Can’t you see that I love you?” Have you heard it from anyone? Have you heard from anyone that anyone heard it from anyone? Ha. Usually, when people need to express something like that, they either mumble, or hardly pronounce three cherished words, and then mumble. And not passionately in your face, but somewhere in the direction of a pillow or TV. And it’s good that it is.
  3. “And then I woke up.”
    Please go back to sleep. And let the feather fall from your weary fingers in a dream and roll somewhere where you will never find it. Nothing cheaper, banal and swine than this phrase can be done in relation to the reader. It’s more honest to write: “I can’t think of an ending to this story, but it’s a pity to throw out the beginning. Sorry.”

    ( And 7.Collapse )

And the master class on how to really make your characters talk begins, meanwhile, on the 26th of November, that is, next Wednesday. It is hosted by the writer Linor Goralik. Book your seats and come.

We are regularly asked how to keep track of new seminars, competitions, promotions, changes in time or place – in general, how not to miss anything. Answer: There are two options. First: to be on duty on the site, combing through page after page and vigilantly looking out for changes. Second: subscribe to the mailing list – the mailing box can be found on the left on the website of the Training Center and in the profile of our blog.

We think that mailing is more convenient for this purpose, but suddenly someone likes being a site crawler more than a subscriber. So – choose.

By the way, dear friends, for those of you who have long wanted to have a glimpse of how classes are going at the Training Center, we have created the opportunity to look with two eyes at once. Below is a video clip of our sessions with a wide variety of writers, critics and editors.

The only pity is that Shasha Martynova, the editor-in-chief of LiveBook, who is beautiful and is about to start her first seminar with us – “How to write so that everyone reads” (yes, with a new program), and Linor Goralik, whose seminar “How to teach your characters to speak?” also starts here.

But inside there is writer and journalist Marina Stepnova, editor-in-chief of Novy Mir Andrey Vasilevsky, writers Tatyana Ustinova and Dmitry Glukhovsky, Elle editor-in-chief Irina Mikhailovskaya and, most importantly, some of the listeners.

And also excerpts from conversations on the most important literary topics:

– Can a hungover husband leave a woman indifferent?
– Why do you need to write down your thoughts every day (but not show it to anyone)?
– Which articles should be tyk-tyk-tyk, and which should be wow-wow-wow;
– A novel, a novel and only a novel;
– Why did I marry him in 1978?
and more.

Envy and come.

We asked one of our experts, a writer, critic, moderator of seminars “How to Write a Story” and “From an Idea to a Book” Leonid Kostyukov to comment on the texts of the shortlisters. Leonid honestly commented and added that there is something to praise and scold for, but it is more pleasant to praise. We objected that scolding is sometimes more useful. Leonid agreed and solemnly swore that at the next seminar “How to write a story” will alternate.

and while employees of the training center are preparing for the winter Knuts and Gingerbreads, Leonid Kostyukov commented on stories (working names have been introduced by us to distinguish texts in this post):

Thank you all, it was very interesting for us.

Do you want an expert’s commentary on shortlisted works?

While our experts are arguing about choosing the winners of the competition, we want to share the news:

This year the Book Institute supports Andrei Bely Prize .

Alexander Gavrilov, director of the Book Institute:
“The Bely Prize is the oldest active literary prize in Russia, never dependent on the state or capital. The existence of this institution in itself is one of the most inspiring examples of civic engagement in the region aesthetics – the very area in which Brodsky, Sinyavsky or Sasha Sokolov clashed with vile reality.Now that the main attention of the press and the public is given to the processes of today’s consumption in the aesthetic market, Bely’s prize remains, perhaps, the only one focused on tomorrow, on the literary a breakthrough that is not always understood by contemporaries.
