    • Georgia State Administration

    Georgia is a US state.

Flag of the state of Georgia since 2003.

The flag of the state of Georgia, adopted on April 25, 2003, is a rectangular panel of red color, crossed by a white stripe. All bands are equal. In the roof of the flag there is a blue square, which occupies two stripes in height. In the center of the square is the coat of arms in gold on the reverse side of the state seal. nine0003

The coat of arms depicts an arch supported by three pillars. The arch with the inscription Constitution symbolizes the Constitution, the three pillars supporting it symbolize the three branches of government: legislative, executive and judicial. Ribbons with words from the state motto Wisdom, Justice, Moderation are wrapped around the posts. A guardsman, dressed in the colonial uniform of a soldier from the American Revolution, with a raised saber, stands in defense of the Constitution. At the bottom is the motto In God We Trust (from the English. “We believe in God”), although this motto is not on the seal or on the coat of arms. Around the coat of arms and the motto, thirteen white stars are depicted in a circle, symbolizing Georgia and 12 other states that formed the United States of America. nine0003

    Georgia Historic Flags

Flag of the Georgia Militia Regiments, 1861.

Flag of the state of Georgia, 1861.

The 1861 Georgia Code required that militia regiments and battalions intended for service outside of Georgia be provided with regimental colors, “bearing the coat of arms of the state.” The name of the unit was to be written on the banners of the regiment. The color of the flag itself is not specified. The surviving state flag in the collection of the American Civil War Museum in Richmond places the coat of arms on a red field. nine0003

Flag of the state of Georgia in 1902-1904.

Flag of the State of Georgia 1904-1920.

The 1879 flag was introduced by Georgia State Senator Herman H. Perry and was adopted in memory of Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. Perry was a former colonel in the Confederate Army during the war, and he allegedly based the design on the First National Confederate Flag. nine0003

A 1902 state law amendment added the state coat of arms to the blue stripe, although a 2000 Georgia Senate research report states that researchers were not aware of any surviving flags featuring the coat of arms directly on the blue stripe, suggesting that such a flag never was not produced. Instead, no later than 1904, the coat of arms began to be depicted on a white shield, possibly with a golden outline. Examples of this modified version have been found by Senate researchers. nine0003

    Flag of Georgia 1956-2001.

Flag of the state of Georgia in 2001-2003.

At some point, the coat of arms began to be replaced by the state seal. The Senate report indicates that this happened sometime in the 1910s or 1920s and may have been due to a change in the date of the state seal in 1914 and the need for new flags to conform to that change. The report notes that the first official government publication to use the seal instead of the coat of arms was the Official Register of Georgia 1927, which used a colored version of the seal, adding that different versions of the seal were used on flags during this era until a new design was mandated in the 1950s.

The 1956 Georgia State Flag contains the Confederate War Flag. Over time, this began to be regarded by a considerable number of residents as nostalgia for the Confederate States of America and a symbol of the dominance of the “whites”, justifying this by the fact that this flag was adopted not during the American Civil War, but in 1956 – during the struggle for desegregation. Back in 1956, support for the flag was not unanimous, but many agreed with the statement of the Union of the Daughters of the Confederacy that replacing the flag would exacerbate racial tensions.

In 2001, Governor Roy Barnes hastily pushed the flag change through the Georgia General Assembly. A compromise was made: on the bottom of the new flag, on a gold ribbon under the words “History of Georgia”, smaller versions of the previous state flags were placed – the first flag of Georgia (until 1879year), the flag of 1916, the controversial flag of 1956. The first (13 stars) and current (50 stars) US flags were also depicted. In the same 2001, the North American Vexillological Association, in a survey among the flags of North America, by a majority recognized the flag of Georgia (2001 sample) as the worst, stating that the flag “violates all the rules for constructing a flag.”

The blue fields represent the watersheds of Sandy Creek (upper left) and Sugar Creek (lower right), separated by a ridge. The white-outlined square represents Main, Washington, Jefferson, and Hancock Streets, which form the original courthouse plaza often referred to as the Washington-type plan after Washington, Georgia, where it was first used in the state. The square is represented in gold, signifying the abundance of sunshine in Madison and the prosperity of our downtown area. nine0003

    Stranger Things filming locations

As a nod to classic 80s movies, Netflix’s Stranger Things is set in 1983 Indiana, where a boy suddenly disappears without a trace. In search of answers, friends, relatives and the local police get into a maelstrom of mysterious events. nine0003

Eleven (Odie) (Millie Bobby Brown), who has telepathic abilities, plays an important role in the fight against supernatural phenomena. The girl is supported by her friends Max (Sadie Sink), Mike (Finn Wolford), Will (Noah Schnapp), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), who also have to deal with everyday teenage problems.

The series takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, which actually consists of many different movie sets around the Georgia capital Atlanta. nine0003 Stranger Things filming location Hawkins, Jackson, Georgia. Photo by @filmtourismus

The town of Jackson in Butts County has been used for many of the street scenes that take place in downtown Hawkins. Places such as Melwald’s General Store, Movie Theater and Radio Shack along 2nd and Oak Streets around the Butts County Probate Court which acts as a library.

Hopper’s cabin in the woods is located on the vast Sleepy Hollow Farm in Powder Springs, 628 Sleepy Hollow Road, west of Atlanta. The hut was specially built for the filming of the film and was allowed to be left after filming was over. The farm owner now runs tours for fans of the series.

The scenes in Merrill’s pumpkin field were set on the same farm where Hopper makes the horrific discovery with the entrance to the underground tunnel system: the “other side” has spread from the lab.

Friends School, Hawkins High School and High School are actually in the small town of Stockbridge. Filming locations used are the Patrick Henry Adult Education Centers and Stockbridge High School at 109South Lee Street.

The Byers family home is also in Stockbridge. Since real residents do not want to have anything to do with the hype around the series, we do not indicate the address.

The famous scene in which Odie ends the wild chase with a van overturn at the end of the first season was set up on Saras Lane in Tucker, where the friends eventually escape on their bikes. The street is located in a residential area. nine0003 Stranger Things Location Hawkins School, Stockbridge, Georgia. Season 2 of Stranger Things has several scenes with Eleven in downtown Chicago. But they filmed it in Atlanta, for example, on Broad Street.

Another place in Atlanta is South Bend Pool, 2000 Lakewood Avenue Southeast. The swimming pool can be seen in “Stranger Things” as the public pool of Hawkins, in which Billy (Dacre Montgomery) works as a lifeguard. nine0003 Stranger Things filming location in Atlanta, Georgia. The Starcourt Mall, which becomes a key location in Stranger Things in Season 3, transitions to Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth, 2100 Pleasant Hill Road.

However, if you want to eat ice cream at Scoops Ahoy, you will unfortunately be a bit disappointed: the old mall is occupied by only a few stores, and the part that was remodeled for the series is unfortunately not available. The scenery design was removed from there anyway. nine0003

Tip: You can catch a glimpse of the inside of the mall, which has been lavishly refurbished to Stranger Things, through the window panes of the adjoining Beauty Master store.
