There’s a place for you here.
New to Richmond? Unfamiliar with the Episcopal Church, or with Christianity? Welcome.
Whoever you are, wherever you are in your spiritual journey, the people of St. Stephen’s Church hope that your experience with this church will encourage and strengthen you.
As you browse our Web site, you might consider:

-
stopping by the Farmers Market on Saturday morning
-
attending one of our receptions for visitors and newcomers
-

Do as much or as little as you like. There are no “requirements” for being a part of this community of faith. If you wish to be baptized or confirmed, or to transfer your membership from another Episcopal parish, we’d love for you to do so. But it’s not required. Everything we do, everything we offer, is open to all, regardless of whether you are a “member” of this church. If you’re here, you belong.
Here’s an online visitor card: it’s not required–it just helps us to be more responsive to you!

Where we’re located
St. Stephen’s is located at the corner of Three Chopt Road and Grove Avenue (the address is 600 Grove Avenue), near the University of Richmond and across the street from St. Catherine’s School.
If you are coming to the church office, the most direct route is through the double glass doors to the parish house off the parking lot on Somerset. If you’re coming for a worship service, you can enter from Grove Avenue or Three Chopt Road.
Accessibility
There are several entrances to the church and parish house that are designed to be accessible to those with mobility issues or other physical limitations:
All entrances to the church, and the main entrance to the parish house, are equipped with power-assist doors. In addition, the main entrance to the parish house, from the large parking lot, has an elevator on the ground floor that allows you to bypass the steps. The Grove Avenue entrance to the main church is gently sloped, without steps, and the Three Chopt Road entrance has a ramp.
Inside the church, several pews are shortened to allow space for a wheelchair or walker: the first pews on either side of the center aisle, nearest the altar, and the pews near the large baptismal font.
The church is equipped with assistive hearing devices for the hearing-impaired. Please ask an usher for one of these devices as you enter the church.

From birth through high school
St. Stephen’s Church has an active ministry for children and youth, staffed by an energetic and talented family ministries staff and dedicated, well-trained volunteers. Our family ministry staff sends an email newsletter to parents for which you may sign up.
Our main offering for young children is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. For youth in grades 6-12, we use Journey to Adulthood. Both are highly regarded spiritual formation approaches.
We also strive to provide opportunities for parents to learn, grow, and receive support from other parents and from our clergy.
HOLY BAPTISM
Holy Baptism is available for babies, children, and adults. Read more about Baptism and preparation here.
CONFIRMATION
At St. Stephen’s, young people who desire to be confirmed in the Episcopal Church may enter the preparation process in the ninth grade or later. Confirmation takes place when one of our bishops visits St. Stephen’s, usually in May.

More about Youth
Young adults
Young adults–single or partnered, with children or not, in college or working–are invited to take part in everything St. Stephen’s has to offer, from worship to small groups, choirs to Sunday Community suppers, from outreach and volunteer activities to our environmental stewardship group.
We have tagged 20s and 30s as “young adulthood” but many who participate in young adult activities are in their 40s. The bottom line is, no one will ask you your age–if you think of yourself as a young adult, so do we!
While young adults at St. Stephen’s sometimes gather with others in their age cohort, everyone is welcome to join a group or a class with adults of all ages.
Children and teenagers love having adults who are closer to their age as teachers and mentors. You do not have to be a parent to serve in our ministries among children and youth.
Many young adults particularly enjoy the Compline service at St. Stephen’s Church, held Sunday nights at 8 in the church. This ancient service is used as the last service of the day in monastic communities, cathedrals, churches, and schools, and many people say it in their homes. (It’s found on page 127 of the Book of Common Prayer.) At St. Stephen’s, the service is sung by a mixed a cappella choir. The choir chants prayers and psalms, interspersed with motets. It’s an exquisite service, with candles (no other lighting) and incense. Those who attend sit in or lie on a pew in silence, praying, meditating or simply listening to the music. The service lasts just 30 minutes.
We livestream our main Sunday morning service, our Celtic service, and Compline each Sunday. You’ll find these on our Web site, on our Facebook page, and on our YouTube channel.
A fellowship
One of the distinctive things about being an Episcopalian is the sense of connection and fellowship one has with other Episcopalian Christians. St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is part of the Diocese of Virginia, one of the oldest and largest dioceses in the Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
Our diocese includes 80,000 people who worship God and reach out to others in nearly 180 parishes in 38 counties in central, northern and northwestern Virginia. It is one of three Episcopal dioceses in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the others being the Diocese of Southwestern Virginia (based in Roanoke) and the Diocese of Southern Virginia (based in Norfolk). You can read more about the Diocese of Virginia at thediocese.net.
The best way to learn about what it means to be a Christian in the Episcopal tradition is to attend an inquirers class. This class usually meets once a week for seven weeks and is taught by our clergy two or three times each year.

Private Catholic Preschool in Kingsville, MD
Our Pre-K 4 offers a full day or half-day program, 5 days a week. The full-day program runs from 8am – 3pm and the half-day runs from 8am – 11:30am.
Our Pre-K 3 (returning for the 23/24 school year) is a half-day program with two options; Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday, Thursday
The underlying instructional strategy in early education throughout preschool is the use of organized and free-play activities that are intended to provide opportunities for the child to interact, explore and relate successfully in his/her environment.
The preschool program uses multi-sensory hands-on learning approach to teach fine motor skills, auditory and visual learning using center time, books, songs, technology, and art. Free play, story time, show and tell, music, crafts, and outdoor play fill the students’ day. Children attend prayer services, participate in community service projects and are provided many cultural arts activities.
Parents are confident in knowing their children are being educated in a comfortable and nurturing environment which provides an educational curriculum that allows children to achieve their highest potential.
Pre-Kindergarten 4
Our Pre-K 4 program is directed toward a readiness for reading and math while learning in a hands-on classroom rooted in the Catholic faith. We explore reading through an integrated literacy-based reading series that is developmentally appropriate. The children explore story elements, alphabet, vocabulary and concepts, and phonemic awareness. Our Math program is based on daily calendar practices, counting, cardinality, numerical operations and Algebraic thinking. Science and Social Studies concepts are taught in hands-on, age-appropriate methods. We utilize Ben Q Boards and iPad technology in support of the curriculum.
Our religion curriculum covers the Catholic faith through symbols and articles, Bible stories, prayer and attending Mass throughout the year. We study the liturgical events of the Catholic Church and find a love and devotion to Jesus. Prayer partners are established with our sixth grade students. We share meaningful spiritual lessons and develop a sense of community.
Policies
Students entering Pre-K 3 must be (3) years of age prior to September 1st of the current year.
Students entering Pre-K 4 must be (4) years of age prior to September 1st of the current year.
All children must be potty trained to enter our preschool program.
Found below is a listing of the areas of study with example content and essential skills.
- Religion
- Mathematics
- English Language Arts
- Additional Subject Areas
Religion
Released in 2011, “Bringing Good News” is the Archdiocese of Baltimore Religion Curriculum for Elementary Schools. This standards-based curriculum serves as a guide, a roadmap for both teachers and students as they embark on a journey, which will provide them with the knowledge and understanding of the faith as witnessed in the teachings and the traditions of the Catholic Church. The curriculum is built on the Six Tasks of Catechesis: Promoting Knowledge of the Faith; Liturgical Education; Moral Formation; Teaching to Pray; Education for Community Life; and Missionary Initiation and is aligned with the Assessment of Catholic Religious Education (IFG:ACRE). By the completion of preschool, students will master a variety of skills including:
- Identify self and my family as belonging to God’s family.
- Identify the Bible as a special book about God.
- Dramatize the stories about Jesus from the Bible, i.e. The Last Supper, The Christ Child in the Temple, The Good Samaritan.
- Demonstrate how we show our love by using kind words and positive actions.
- Participate in prayer with the family, alone, in class and at Church.
- Identify the saints as God’s special friends who are part of the family of the Church in heaven.
- Discover that God has made each of them special and that individual differences are gifts from God.
- Understand when we help our family and friends we are showing love to others like Jesus did.
Mathematics
Revised in 2013, the curriculum for all elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore include the following units:
- Counting and Cardinality
- Operations and Algebraic Thinking
- Measurement and Data
- Numbers and Operations in Base Ten
- Geometry
- Numbers and Operations
Catholic educators never forget that our schools exist to bring our students to Christ. By continuing to implement new standards that are challenging, we work to fulfill the promise of quality Catholic education that educates the whole child, both mind and soul. By the completion of preschool, students will master a variety of skills including:
- Count groups of objects to 10 in order to solve a problem.
- Subitize: immediate recognition of the number of a group without counting.
- Manipulate actual, physical objects to represent the problem when working on a solution (e.g. apples to represent apples).
- Use measurement vocabulary when describing the attributes of objects.
- Recognize shapes in their real-world environment.
English Language Arts
Revised in 2014, the English Language Arts Curriculum for the Archdiocese of Baltimore is designed using the Catholic, College and Career Ready clusters as its foundation. Through literature, this course of study fosters students’ Catholic identity, shaping them to be models of Christian living for others. This curriculum is fully integrated with our Catholic faith. We provide students with a curriculum that is rigorous and rich in literature, oral and written language, grammar, writing, vocabulary, informational literature, and multimedia/technology. By the completion of preschool, students will master a variety of skills including:
- Exhibit curiosity and interest in learning new vocabulary (e.g. ask questions about unfamiliar vocabulary).
- Describe the relationship between illustrations and the text in which they appear (e.g., what person, place, thing, or idea in the text an illustration depicts).
- Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding.
- Confirm understanding of a text read aloud or through other media by asking and answering questions about key details and requesting clarification if something is not understood.
- Distinguish shades of meaning among verbs describing the same general action (e. g., walk, march, strut, prance) by acting out the meanings.
Additional Subject Areas
While there are not defined standards in preschool for the following subject areas, Catholic schools offer exploration and introduction to the content that will be learned in future grade levels:
- Science
- Instructional Technology
- Social Studies
- Visual and Performing Arts
- Physical Education/Health
- World Languages

Since 1969 St. Stephen’s UMC Preschool has endeavored to meet the needs of the community. History of the church:
The history of the church in the name of St. Stephen of Great Perm in the Khimmash microdistrict of Yekaterinburg began long before the parish itself was founded.
On May 24, 1815, the Bogoroditskaya Church of the Yekaterinburg district was founded in the village of Nizhne-Isetsky, and on July 8, 1840, it was consecrated by Bishop Evlampiy. Since 1887, two priests served in the clergy of the church – a deacon and a psalmist. From October 2, 1891 year in the porch of the church was opened a literacy school.
In 1935, the Nizhne-Isetskaya church was closed, and for about five years it was empty. By May 1, 1940, it was converted into an orphanage club. In 1942, the building was given over to the Uralkhimmashzavod club. Later, the plant’s club moved to another location. The church building was not used. In 1953, a production workshop for rubber technical products was placed in the temple. Then, for about 17 years, the church was abandoned and gradually destroyed. On June 20, 1974, the temple was blown up.
On May 14, 1992, the first meeting of believers took place to create an Orthodox community on Khimmash. On August 25, 1992, with the blessing of Archbishop Melchizedek, a community was registered in the name of St. Stephen of Great Perm. The organizers of the community were Orlov Alexander Nikolaevich, Gibor Claudia Petrovna, Kalashnikovs Bograt Konstantinovich and Natalia Vladimirovna, Solomatina Tatyana Nikolaevna. Alexander Nikolaevich Orlov was elected chairman of the parish council. At first, they gathered at the club “Young Khimmashevets”, Archpriest Nikolai Ladyuk took care of the community.
In April 1993, the city administration gave the library building on the street. Parkhomenko, 10 under the prayer house. Work began on its improvement: they built an altar, repaired the walls, made lecterns and frames for icons. On January 14, 1994, the consecration of the throne by Archbishop Melchizedek of Yekaterinburg and Kurgan took place. The prayer house became known as the church in honor of St. Stephen of Great Perm.
Priest Alexander Orlov was appointed the first rector. In December 1996, Father Alexander Orlov fell ill, and Archpriest Alexander Lekhno became temporary rector instead.
In October 1997, Priest George Skala was appointed rector of the church. With the arrival of Father George in the community, the temple gained fame and people’s love. The parish began to increase, new parishioners, new employees appeared. In the temple itself, the decoration has changed: the old home-made candlesticks were replaced with new ones (Sofrinsky). Small icons made from old calendars were replaced with large handwritten ones.
On the night of April 29-30, 1998, unknown persons doused the church altar with gasoline and set it on fire. In the morning, as usual, the parishioners hurried to the service, but before their eyes stood a charred church without a roof or a cross.
On Easter 1999, the first festive service was held in the new church. In 2000, documents were signed, and the building of the former kindergarten officially passed into the possession of the Orthodox community. Day after day the building was transformed and became more like a temple. They made a spacious altar, built a stone iconostasis with painted icons, built a choir. Huge work on painting and decorating the temple was made by the Kudryashovs Vladimir Ivanovich and Sergey Vladimirovich. The carved iconostasis, the painted arch, the icons on the iconostasis and on the facade of the temple were made by their hands.
On December 14, 2002, Archbishop Vikenty celebrated the Divine Liturgy and the rite of consecration of the church.
The activities of the parish were not limited to attending divine services. A Sunday school and a library began to operate in the parish.
On December 24, 2011, by decree of Metropolitan Kirill, Archpriest Nikolai Tarantin was appointed rector of the parish. Father Nikolai put a lot of work into the improvement and beautification of the temple. New hand-painted icons appeared, a casket with particles of the relics of saints and much more.
In January 2021, Father Nikolai was appointed Acting Rector and Chairman of the Parish Council of the Parish of All Saints in Yekaterinburg. Since January 22, 2021, by decree of Metropolitan Evgeny of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye, the rector of the church in the name of St. Stephen of the Great Perm city of Yekaterinburg, Priest Alexander Karachev was appointed.
With the advent of Father Alexander, educational, social and missionary activities became more active. On Sundays, conversations began to take place with the priests of the temple on various topical topics dedicated to the life of the Church. The activities of the Sunday school, the social service of the church, catechetical work are developing, missionary work is being carried out to educate the Khimmash district.
The story of the parish does not end there. The parish lives, develops, grows, new people come, the younger generation grows up. This year the parish is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

OUR PRINCIPLES
Professionalism
Our professional qualified teachers find an approach to each kid and create a truly warm family atmosphere.
Communication languages - Russian, German, English.
Methods of teaching
In organizing the educational process, we rely on the Vienna Educational Plan. Teachers use combined methods aimed at the harmonious development of the child’s personality and at the integrated and comprehensive development and upbringing of children:
-
intellectual (developing games and exercises for thinking, logic, memory, attention, fine motor skills, speech development, acquaintance with the outside world)
-
creative (applied arts, drawing, appliqués, crafts from various materials and other types of handicrafts)
-
musical and aesthetic (musical exercises that develop ear and sense of rhythm, familiarity with musical instruments, piano and violin lessons, songs and dances)
-
physical (outdoor games, gymnastics, yoga, outdoor walks)
-
holistic (formation of personality and social education)
There is also a weekly school preparation program for children aged 5-6 (the last year before school) according to the Vienna Educational Plan.
Multilingualism
Such a complex and multifaceted concept as multilingualism requires a responsible and individualized pedagogical approach, the main goal of which is the competent mastery of languages. That is why in bilingual groups, educators – “native speakers” of the language work with the kids.
While communicating in our native language (Russian or English), preserving and developing our native speech and culture, we nevertheless place great emphasis on learning the German language. Despite the fact that the child is immersed in a foreign language environment, the presence of an educator who speaks the same language with him significantly speeds up and facilitates the process of learning German by relieving psychological stress, and makes adaptation and integration into a new society painless and successful.
Comfortable stay in groups
Our students spend the day in bright, spacious and well-equipped rooms. Daytime sleep or rest is a guarantee of well-being, harmonious development and good mood. We pay great attention to the physical development of children: daily walks in the fresh air (there is a wonderful children’s park and playground nearby), active games and weekly sports. Children of the older group regularly go on various kinds of excursions: visits to museums, theaters, parks, etc.
Nutrition
We prepare fresh, balanced meals every day, taking into account the age characteristics of children and the recommendations of the Health and Nutrition Inspectorate, using natural or seasonal BIO products whenever possible.
We offer you to familiarize yourself with
with weekly menu (3 times meals)
Cooperation with parents
According to the Vienna educational plan, we build active partnership with parents. Information exchange is organized on a regular basis: parent-teacher meetings, individual conversations, daily communication… We always welcome feedback from you in the form of comments and comments.

Orthodox school: Romanian experience / Pravoslavie.Ru
School “Holy Martyrs Brâncoveanu”
(şcoala
“Sfintii martiri Brancoveni”) –
a good example of how indifference becomes the foundation
good deeds. Romanian businessman Marcel Bouros wanted,
for his daughter to go to an Orthodox kindergarten, but
since there was no such thing in Constanta, he decided it
organize. About how an Orthodox kindergarten
turned into a school and what this school is,
tells her teacher and curriculum developer
Benefits Virginia Nikshu.
– Virginia, how long ago
there is a school?
– Our school has officially existed for six years.
– since 2005. Another year we worked unofficially
– within the experimental educational
institutions, gaining the necessary experience. The school was
created with the blessing of Archbishop Thomas of Dobruja,
her confessor is the elder Archimandrite Arseny
(Daddy).
– What is the structure of the school?
– It consists of a kindergarten, which
children are accepted from the age of three, and elementary school
from 1st to 4th grade. In total we have eight classes, for
each of which has its own teacher. Separately
teachers of foreign languages are invited. Unfortunately, at
we do not have a building that could accommodate all
our children. Our plans are to develop the education of children up to
graduating class, and as soon as we have the opportunity
place all classes under one roof, then we will arrange
complete high school.
– Does your school operate only in Constanta?
– Today we already have a branch in Suceava, but there
operates only kindergarten.
– Who owns the idea of the school?
– Marcel came up with the idea
Bowros, who heads the Saints
Martyrs Brynkovyanu” [1].
He also organized the school, spending his money on its creation.
funds. He wanted his little daughter not to
only in the family, but also in kindergarten would be brought up in
Orthodox spirit. But since in Constanta such
there were no kindergartens, he decided to create one. First
The group consisted of only three children. After a year of work
we received accreditation and began to develop plans
school education.
– Romanian laws allow organizing
Orthodox kindergartens?
– Our laws allow both in kindergarten and school
conduct extra lessons once or twice a week,
dedicated to religious topics. I had what I needed
education and licenses to work in a children’s
kindergarten and elementary school and conduct such lessons. On the
on the basis of the law, we have developed our own program,
which has been approved by the Ministry of Education.
– What is the program of the school?
– The School Education Program presents
a mandatory basic unit and additional elements.
We created our main program and integrated into it
required block.
– Than an Orthodox kindergarten and school in Romania
different from non-Orthodox?
– In our kindergarten, the day starts with morning
prayers; also daily in the morning children have an Orthodox
a lesson that differs in level depending on age
children – it can be songs, poems,
rhymed prayers, stories, teachings, in which
spiritual and moral meaning. If on this day
there is a church holiday or memorial day especially
revered saint in our country, then, as a rule,
lesson materials are devoted to this. Also we can offer
children on this day to draw an icon or sculpt a figurine
saint. On great holidays, the children and I go to the temple for
Divine Liturgy.
As for the school, there are children
prayers are already offered, which are intended for
adults. Also the materials of the first 15-minute lesson
already have a serious instructive and moral message.
During this lesson we read the Prologue, the Lives of the Saints,
patristic teachings. On Mondays we study
interpretation of the Gospel, which was read the day before in the temple
at Sunday Liturgy. In addition, on Tuesdays we
we learn prayers, on Wednesdays – church songs, and so
for every day we have something definite. After
the first lesson, the same lessons begin as in
public school. At the request of parents, we introduced
one more additional block – foreign languages:
English and German, which they begin to study as early as
kindergarten. The school also teaches calligraphy.
Methods of teaching all different from the school
additional block programs were developed by our
teachers and professors.
– Who works at your school?
– According to the law, only
professionally trained teachers, so our
employees are graduates of state
universities, which at the same time are believers.
Principal Priest Adrian Chiagă
also a teacher by training.
– By what criteria
the ministry evaluated your program before
give you state accreditation?
– First of all, attention is drawn to the fact that
hourly volume of subjects studied in excess of the general program,
did not exceed the norm, which is determined for
additional items is one to two hours per
week plus the obligatory religion lesson, which also exists in
general education school. In addition, experience and
the level of teachers. Also in our school
all national holidays are celebrated[2].
And there is another holiday related to the completion
academic year, the topics for which are determined by themselves
teachers with freedom of choice. Taking advantage of this
advantage, we create programs in the spirit of the church
traditions. For example, at the end of the academic year
2nd grade, I wrote a holiday script related to
the life of St. Stephen the Great, according to whom children in
clothes of that time they sing songs and act out skits
deeds of the saint. In addition, we celebrate especially the days
memory of other saints. For example, quite recently we
developed a script dedicated to the 50th anniversary
repose of St. John Hozebit –
recently illustrious Romanian saint who
labored in the well-known desert and died at 1960 year.
We chose this saint not by chance: the first year
learning at school, children learn the alphabet, and we made our
version, which is based on the life of St. John and
the places where he moved. So, for example, the letter
“l” is illustrated with a lion, which
served the Monk Gerasim of Jordan. to this alphabet
a copybook is attached, in which children, in addition to
exercises in writing elements of letters, can
color and draw pictures from the life of a saint.
– Which additional
requirements other than those provided
state education system, you present
to your teachers?
“It is important for us that our teachers are
Orthodox not by name, but truly lived our
faith. If you want, then to be to some extent
ascetics. It is difficult to find such ascetics, but we
We try to carefully select personnel.
– Does your school pay for education?
Yes, otherwise we wouldn’t be able to support her. But our
prices are the lowest compared to the prices of all other
private schools in the city. In addition, some children study with
us on scholarships given to them by the school. Such
scholarships are paid to children from large or
low-income families that we know to be good
Christians. In addition, our school is in great demand
because Sundays are not so common in Romania
schools like in Russia.
– What difficulties did you have to face
when creating a school?
– The biggest problem is the lack of
suitable place. Everything else against this background looked
little things: money for equipment and textbooks,
organizational moments and so on. Thank God today we
we have eight classrooms equipped with everything necessary
kindergarten and school that accommodates all of our children
There are 110 of them now. In addition to this, we also have
sleeping quarters for the little ones.
– Than those lessons of religion which
provided by the school curriculum, differ from
yours?
– Nothing, we have no right to have them somehow
different [3].
We just put more soul into teaching
religion. And these lessons are taught by Father Adrian. But there is more
one important point: all our items, whether
geography or history, we teach through the lens
Orthodoxy.
– When there was interest in your experience
Orthodox school and its branches began to appear?
– After two years of existence of our school, a
school in Suceava, but there are similar schools in Bucharest and
Iasi; similar schools have recently opened in
Cluj and other cities. Unfortunately, there aren’t many of them yet.
as we would like, and they still operate only in the format
kindergartens.
– To what extent are such
schools?
– Very much in demand. Moreover, the demand for them is growing
as they appear. We could take more children if
would have a suitable building. There is one more
limiting moment: those families who want to give
their children to study in Orthodox schools, as a rule,
are large and low-income. At the same time, no
state program to support such schools, at the expense of
which could cover the cost of education.
[1] The fund is dedicated to the memory of the martyrs Constantin Brâncoveanu, his sons and adviser Yanaca Vacarescu. Constantin Brâncoveanu was the ruler of Wallachia from 1688 to 1714. 26 years of his reign became the era of the greatest flourishing of the Orthodox Church, culture and art of the country. New temples and monasteries were built, various schools were opened, books were printed in different languages, all kinds of support was provided to knowledgeable and educated people. The Lord provided significant material assistance to all four Orthodox Patriarchates of the East, the monastic cloisters of Athos, the monastery of St. Catherine on Mount Sinai, monasteries in the mainland of Greece and on the islands. In Constantinople, he built the church of St. Nicholas in the Galata quarter. Many patriarchs and bishops of the East considered Bucharest their second residence, spending a significant part of their time here, living comfortably on the income received from the Wallachian monasteries, bowed to the holy places of the Orthodox East. The heyday of church life, education and art in the Principality of Wallachia ended simultaneously with the deposition of Constantine Brankoveanu from the throne. The intrigues and denunciations of his enemies in Constantinople, as well as the fact that one of his boyars went over to the side of the Russian army during the Prussian campaign of Peter I in 1711, caused the Ottoman Porte to suspect that the ruler was disloyal. He was summoned with his family to Constantinople. Upon arrival there in March 1714, during Holy Week, they were all imprisoned in the Yedikule (Seven Tower) fortress. The prisoners were promised to save their lives, but only in exchange for converting to Islam. The pious sovereign resolutely rejected this proposal. On August 15, 1714, on the day of the Assumption of the Mother of God, when the sovereign had just turned 60 years old, he was taken along with everyone to the place of execution. His secretary said that Brynkovyanu managed to address his sons with the last word: “My sons, be bold! We have lost everything we had in this world; let us at least save our souls by washing away all our sins with our blood!”
In the presence of the Sultan, the ambassadors of foreign states, his wife and daughters, who were brought to this cruel spectacle, the ruler and his four sons were beheaded. Yanake Vacarescu, the closest adviser to the ruler, was executed first of all, then the heads of four sons were cut off: Constantine, Stefan, Radu and Matei. And only then, after the ruler witnessed the tragedy of his sons, his turn came. The heads of the holy martyrs were raised up on spikes and carried through Constantinople, and the next day their bodies were thrown into the Bosporus. Christian fishermen fished out the bodies of the saints from the sea and buried them in a Greek monastery on the island of Halki.
On June 20, 1992, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church glorified Constantin Brâncoveanu, his sons and counselor Janache in the host of martyrs. The service was composed and their icons were painted. Commemorating them is determined on August 16. For more details, see: http://www.pravoslavie.ru/orthodoxchurches/41238.htm
[2] In Romania, apart from secular ones, Easter, Christmas, the Annunciation and the day of memory of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called are also national holidays.
[3] In Romania, since 1989, compulsory teaching of the basics of religion in schools from 1st to 10th grade has been introduced.

Man is a spiritual being. He strives for physical development and moral perfection. In kindergarten, teachers introduce children to the world of Orthodox traditions through prayer before the start of every activity: classes, meals, walks.
There were no trifles in the work of the kindergarten team from the first day, buying toys, educators chose those that had educational value, did not allow the perversion of the image of God in man (spiderman, monsters, etc.), weapons. Matinees are held in kindergarten in accordance with the church and secular calendar.
One of the goals of Orthodox education is the gradual formation in the child of a clear understanding of the world around him. The result of understanding should be the transformation of the good instincts of a child’s nature into a conscious striving for Truth, for the ideals of goodness and truth, the gradual development of a firm and free will. Spiritual exercises of the mind, feelings and heart of the child are the main means of spiritual and moral education, the main form will be serving the good and serving people.
A distinctive feature of Ivan da Marya is that all aspects of upbringing: mental, aesthetic, moral are nourished by the Orthodox and serve him. The introduction of a child into the Orthodox cultural tradition naturally passes through the reproduction of the annual cycle of holidays, work, games, the use of specially selected books, through the acquaintance of children with musical and pictorial works on gospel stories. All activities in kindergarten are subordinate to the achievement of the main goal – the holistic spiritual and moral development of the personality of a preschool child. The content of the educational process in kindergarten is determined by the educational program of preschool education of the Ivan da Marya ChDOU in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard.
