What Is the Best Way to Start Learning Magic Tricks?

Whether you’re looking to just casually entertain friends with some easy magic tricks or party tricks, or aspire to be a professional magician like David Blaine, Dynamo, David Copperfield, Penn & Teller or Houdini, every beginner magician is always faced with the same question:

What is the best way to start learning magic tricks?

Everyone on the Vanishing Inc. team is a magician that was once in this same situation. That’s why we’ve put our heads together to create a list of the best ways to learn magic tricks.

Start at the library

With the popularity of magic downloads and YouTube magic, you might be shocked to learn that the best place to start learning magic is still the library. Many professional magicians agree that books are still the best way to start learning magic and your local library probably has a variety of magic books that are perfect for any beginner magician. Since you can’t just watch and copy someone else’s movements, books force you to examine every aspect of a magic trick and learn how to bring it to life in your hands with your own unique style.

Where can I find books about magic tricks in my library?

You can find magic books in section 793.8 of your library. This is the Dewey Decimal System number for all books related to magic tricks, card tricks and juggling.

You’ll find books on card magic basics, prop and bar bets, coin magic, mentalism, card magic, sleight of hand, playing cards (we love Bicycle cards), and even tricks for your virtual magic at your library.

Despite being the biggest magic store in the world, we do always love a library. Sure, you can’t get flash paper or invisible thread there, but you can get started in magic. While they won’t sell you the latest magic tricks, you can learn about the classics. The books we bring to magic conventions always sell more than the tricks, and for good reason! It’s the best way to learn magic tricks and how to learn card tricks.

What books about magic tricks should I read as a beginner magician?

When first starting to learn magic, it’s important to try out all kinds of magic tricks to see which you like best. Many beginner magic books offer a wide variety of magic tricks from card tricks to coin tricks, magic with dollar bills, rubber band magic, mind reading, mentalism and much more. Beginner magic books often aren’t just limited to close-up magic either. They often feature a variety of parlor magic tricks and stage illusions as well.

Of all the best books for learning magic, some of the most often suggested include Mark Wilson’s Complete Course in Magic and MAGIC: The Complete Course by our own Joshua Jay. Joshua has also written 2 other incredible books that can help you get started performing magic right away: Joshua Jay’s Amazing Book of Cards and Big Magic for Little Hands (which has a downloadable sampler where you can learn magic tricks for free). Books with self-working magic tricks such as those created by Karl Fulves are also an excellent place to start learning magic.

Magic DVDs and Downloads

There are also a variety of incredible DVDs and downloads available for beginner magicians. However, when first starting to learn magic, we would suggest not purchasing too many of the latest single-trick or single-move DVDs and downloads. At just $5-$10 each, we know it can be very tempting to learn all the latest and greatest magic tricks. However, these can often be overwhelming for a beginner magician. The best way to start learning magic tricks is with a DVD or download that offers a wide variety of basic moves and beginner magic tricks.

Get started with a free card magic download

To help you get started learning magic immediately, we’re offering our 10×10 beginner card magic download for FREE. In this video, legendary card magician R. Paul Wilson teaches you a variety of card tricks and fundamental card sleights that will help you start performing card magic right away.

Learn magic now

A warning about YouTube Magic

Speaking of learning magic for free, it’s no surprise that many beginner magicians look to YouTube when first starting out in magic. YouTube magic tutorials, while free and easily accessible, are often performed by people who have not yet mastered the magic trick or sleight of hand they are teaching you. Their poor instruction can cause beginner magicians to learn bad habits and fundamentals that can be detrimental to future growth. While YouTube is a good resource for the occasional quick party trick, bar bet or self working card trick, beginner magicians should stick to professional magic dvds, downloads and books featuring content that has been mastered by the professional magicians teaching it to you.

Seek help from other magicians

See if your area has a magic club (the International Brotherhood of Magicians and Society of American Magicians are a great start) or a magic shop where you can meet with magicians and mentalists that can help you start learning magic. You can also search online for local magicians and offer to buy them a coffee or lunch if they’d be willing to meet up with you.

Don’t just practice – practice properly

It’s probably not surprising to learn that achieving the sleight of hand mastery of Shin Lim or the seemingly casual presentation style of David Blaine requires an incredible amount of practice. However, trying to practice everything at once can be overwhelming for beginner magicians. Find a few magic tricks that catch your interest and practice until you’re confident enough to perform them.

And then….

Go out, perform and have fun!

While practicing is important, you’ll learn more when you perform magic than you ever could by just practicing in private. Magic is designed to entertain people. So, learn some easy magic tricks and then show them off to all your friends and family. You’ll be amazed at how this will help you learn about your magic and improve it.

That’s it. There’s all the best ways to start learning magic tricks. Now, all that’s left to do is actually get started. Enjoy the journey and have fun! If you have any questions along the way, just send us an email or get in touch with us on our live chat.

10 Easy Magic Tricks That Will Impress Everyone at the Party

Master these simple tricks without being a wizard

Team Nas Academy

05 Oct · 6 mins read

Have you ever wondered why we enjoy looking at magic? Everyone knows these are illusions and not ‘real. ’ It’s not as though we don’t know our senses are being deceived. But even with easy magic tricks, we still watch and wait for the big reveal. Why? Because the principles behind magic are rooted in areas that overlap with our psychology, which are perception, attention, and how we process information.

Magic is about manipulating our perceptions and exploiting our cognitive loopholes. It is said that sometimes great magicians can perform tricks in a way that moves people like great art.

Part of the fascination with magic tricks is that we try to reconcile something that we’ve seen with what we know is not really possible. We know that rabbits don’t suddenly pop out of top hats from nowhere or that people can’t get sawn in half and walk away. It’s a sensation that produces a deep-rooted response, trying to reconcile a cognitive conflict and triggering a certain part of the brain.

In fact Gustav Kuhn, a reader in psychology at the University of London, likens the appeal of a magic trick to that of a horror film. He says, “If such bloodshed was seen in real life, it would be traumatic and awful, but when it’s shown in the safety of a movie, the fear becomes something that people can enjoy.”

So even though everyone is fascinated with magic tricks, few realize how easy most of them are to perform.

We’ve rounded a few easy magic tricks that you can use to impress your friends, even if you’re a beginner.

1. Show Your Psychic Math Power

Showing off your math skills and adding a magic trick to it is always a winning deception because not only will your audience feel tricked, they’ll also lose their mind trying to figure out why something so simple is so difficult to crack. To give you an example, did you know that when 9 is multiplied by any number between 2 and 9, the digits of the answer will always add up to 9?

That is the basis of this easy trick, and here’s how you go about it:

  • Ask a person to select a number between 2 and 9. Then ask them to multiply that number by 9.
  • Ask them to add the two digits of the answer (it will always be 9.)
  • Ask them to subtract 5 from that number (it will always be 4.)
  • Ask them to assign an alphabet to that number – so A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on. They will get D because their answer will be 4.
  • Tell them to think of a country that begins with that letter but not say it out loud. 99.9% of the time they will choose Denmark (because who’s heard of Djibouti?)
  • Now, tell them to take the second letter of that country’s name and think of an animal that begins with that letter but keep it secret as well.
  • Pause and appear to give this some thought. Then quite casually say, “I don’t think Denmark has elephants, except in zoos.

2. The Vanishing Coin

This one may take some practice. You will need:

  • a dark solid color scarf made of a flimsy material
  • a rubber band (possibly one close in color to the scarf)
  • a coin

Before you begin this trick, you need to put the small rubber band around your thumb and the next three fingers of your left hand.

Do not let your audience see the rubber band. Place your hand on your side or put it in your pocket. When you are ready to do the trick, pull out the scarf with your right hand and drape it over your left hand. Ask someone for a coin. Place the coin on the scarf.

As you are folding the scarf in any way you wish, open up your fingers and capture the coin with just a small amount of the scarf. Remove your fingers from the rubber band as it is capturing the coin. Once your coin is securely captured (without making it obvious), wave the scarf or let it fall to the floor to show that the coin has ‘disappeared’. A tip here is to be careful that no one sees the rubber band.

You can also reverse the trick by placing the scarf back over your left hand, pushing down into the scarf with your right hand, and letting the rubber band fall into your left hand. Pull the scarf back and reveal the coin.

3. The Reverse Turn Card Trick

This trick basically asks the trickee to pick a card out of the deck. You then place it in the middle of the deck and using ‘magic’, you’re going to flip every other card in the deck around except for the card they chose.

To achieve this trick, flip the very bottom card of the deck around. While the trickee looks at the card they’ve picked, you flip the rest of the deck around so that the faced-in bottom card is now on top. Now, add the card they chose into the middle of the deck face down. It will be the only card turned around in the entire deck.

Tell the trickee to clap their hands and you’ll turn all their cards around. When they clap their hands, slap your hand down on the deck, and slide the top card away. Now the whole deck looks like it flipped. Sort through the deck until you find the one that’s turned around. That’s their card!

4. The Moving Pen

For this trick, all you need is a pen and a smooth flat surface, along with the ability to be very sneaky. Tell your audience that you will be moving the pen across the surface with the ‘power of your mind’ or telekinesis.

Next, rub the pen on your sleeve or pants, stating that in order to set up the special mental force field, you have to infuse some static electricity into the pen (remember, magic tricks are part performance and part illusion.)

Then, place the pen on the surface, with your hand above it and index finger pointing out. Lean over to ‘focus’ your mental energy on the pen and begin to move your index finger forward as you quietly blow on the pen. (This may actually take some practice for you to be sneaky enough.)

You could also wear a baseball cap to hide your mouth as you lean over. But, usually, the observers are so intent on the pen moving and your finger that they wouldn’t bother watching your mouth.

5. The Disappearing Water Trick

For this easy magic trick, you will make water seem to disappear from the inside of a cup. This trick is a little more science based. It will appear as if you poured water into a cup but when you turn the cup over, no water pours out. This trick is simple and tons of fun, especially since the audience won’t really know what’s in the cup.

What you will need for this trick is sodium polyacrylate, a cup that is not see through, and a container to hold water or you can simply use a faucet.

Make sure before you do the trick that you already have one tablespoon of sodium polyacrylate at the bottom of the cup. Of course, it is always advisable to practice this trick several times to make sure you know how much water to use with the amount of sodium polyacrylate you have in the cup. This way you have a good idea on how much water to pour that will eventually ‘disappear.’

After the sodium polyacrylate is in the cup, pour about a quarter cup of water into it. Now give it some time. You can take this time to mumble some imaginary magic words that will make the water ‘disappear.’ Look into the cup as you are looking across the room and once you see that the water has vanished, turn the cup over to show that no water pours out.

An important tip here is to make sure you do not show the inside of the cup before or after the trick. If you can crush the cup after the trick, that is a neat ending to distract the audience from wanting to look into the cup. If you aren’t familiar with sodium polyacrylate, you can purchase it in most gardening and hardware stores. This substance acts as a sponge of sorts.

6. Push a Cup Through a Solid Table

This is an exercise in ‘misdirection’ as magicians call it. For this easy magic trick, you’ll need a cup, a table, a coin that will fit under the cup, and a napkin or a piece of paper that covers the cup and can hold its shape.

Before you start the trick, make a big deal out of how solid the table is and how hard it will be to make the coin pass through the solid tabletop. This way they’ll be focusing on the coin and not the cup. Put the coin on the table and place the cup over it. Cover the cup with the napkin and scrunch it down around the form of the cup. Lift the cup and paper up and bring them towards you, so the audience can see the small object on the table once again.

Now this is the tricky part. Drop the cup out of the paper into your lap very sneakily, while making sure the paper still keeps the shape of the cup. Bring the paper back over the small object, and slam your hand down on it. Whip the paper away to reveal that though the small object hasn’t gone through, the cup has disappeared! Magic!

7. The Pencil Water Trick

This doubles up as a science experiment and is sure to intrigue your audience as they will watch you shove a pencil right through a ziplock bag filled with water without spilling a single drop. How? Ziplock bags are made out of a polymer. A polymer has long flexible chains of molecules that form a seal around the pencil to stop water from pouring out. For this trick, you’ll need a ziplock bag, water, and a sharp pencil (it is key to ensure the pencil is as sharp as can be.)

Fill three quarters of the ziplock bag with water and seal it shut. Hold the bag up in one hand and firmly push the pencil through one side of the bag. Keep going until it pierces the bag and comes out of the other side. No water should come out and that’s on ‘magic’ or so your audience will think.

8. Black Magic

In this two-person magic trick, you will communicate telepathically with another person to identify which objects your audience members are thinking of.

Pick a friend or someone in the room and tell them to mentally pick any item in the room. Before they do this, the second magician will leave the room so as to not overhear. Once an object is picked, the second magician will re-enter the room. You will then point to various objects around the room, asking the second magician if it’s the object the audience had selected. The second magician will say no to each object.

Before you point to the correct object, you need to point to an object that’s black in color. This will act as a signal to the second magician that the next object you point to will be the correct object. Next, you point to the correct object and the second magician will say it’s the object the audience picked leaving the audience confused yet curious.

9. Find The Magic Card

For this really easy magic trick, you will need a deck of cards. Before starting your performance, divide your cards into black and red. Remember the color you place on top of the deck.

Fan out a few of the cards from the top and ask someone from the audience to pick a card and remember it. Then, fan out the bottom of the deck to allow the person to put their card back in the deck. Split the deck, somewhere in between, and place the bottom half of the deck on top to ‘shuffle’ the cards. Don’t worry if the split isn’t exactly in the middle.

To find the card that was chosen, look through the deck. The card you are looking for should be the only red or black card among the other colors. Pull that card out and ask the audience if it’s the right card. Simple yet tricky.

10. Water and Pepper Trick

This is an easy magic trick that doesn’t need much effort. You will need water, soap, a cup, and some pepper.

Before you do this super easy magic trick, rub some soap on your index finger (secretly.) Next, add some pepper into the water in a cup. Ask a member of your audience to dip their index finger into the cup of water to see if they can separate the pepper. They obviously won’t be able to. However, when you dip your index finger into the cup, the soap on your finger will separate the pepper.

This trick is again science based. When you add any kind of detergent to water, the surface tension of the water is lowered. When this happens, the water wants to spread out and the pepper that is floating on top of the water is carried to the outer edge along with the water as if by magic.

These amazing and easy magic tricks need no expertise. Just a little practice can help you ace your performance like a top-notch magician.

Exposing the 5 most famous magic tricks in history

Men’s Rules of HistoryTricks and tricks

Many great magic tricks remain unsolved to this day. And the greatest trick has not yet been invented at all (we are talking about the instantaneous transfer of the Kremlin with its inhabitants to the hospitable crater of the Eyyafyadlayokudl volcano). But a number of grandiose tricks and “prestige” managed to be opened and brought to your understanding.

The bullet-catching trick is one of the most ancient and respected, almost as ancient and respected as the bullet itself. The focus was first mentioned in 1631 in the treatise The Theaters of God’s Judgment by the Reverend Thomas Beard. Over the centuries, the bullet trick improved until it reached its pinnacle with Penn and Teller’s magicians shooting each other and catching the bullet in their mouths at the same time.

Appearance

Reality

It is not so much painstaking preparatory work that is important for a successful trick with a bullet, but dexterity of hands, cheeks and tongue. The bullets that are shown to the activists from the audience and which are eventually fired are fake, most likely wax, they burst as soon as they leave the muzzle.

To make these bullets look as real as possible, craftsmen cover them with lead-coloured acrylic paint.

Why don’t the volunteers from the audience notice that the bullets are fake? Imagine that the camera is pointed at you, everyone is waiting for your witty answers to the questions of world famous magicians, your palms are sweating – there is no time for skepticism.

Penn clearly states which initials the volunteer puts on the bullet and what he draws on the case. Drawing, as you understand, is not difficult: most people paint a smiley face, a sun or a wand.

At this very time, the assistant behind the scenes depicts the initials on the already shot bullet (maybe blurred, after all, the bullet has been in the revolver). Penn and Teller approach the hanger, where protective vests and masks are waiting for them.

Please note: hangers are located next to the curtain. This is a fatal moment: both magicians turn away from the camera, for seconds they are out of sight of others.

And then the assistants put bullets in Penn and Teller’s mouths.

It’s time to marvel at Penn’s conversational skills as he continues his distracting monologue about the dangers of firearms while holding a bullet to his cheek.

The rest is a matter of technique and training. All that remains for the conjurers is to aim, fire blanks, and then, hiding behind a curtain of powder, push the bullet out from behind their cheeks and squeeze it between their teeth.

Every illusionist dreams of walking on water. Until the 21st century, only one succeeded, and even then in biblical times. But nowadays, thanks to the development of technology, the focus has become feasible.

Among the first to show it to the world was the British illusionist Steve Frein, known as Dynamo. Yes, how effectively he demonstrated – he walked not on any water, but on the Thames itself!

Reality

Since the tricks of Dynamo have not yet been revealed by competent people, we will express our version.

Tsimes focus – in a massive non-sinking platform made of plexiglass, which was previously anchored at the embankment.

In principle, if it were in a pool of wonderful murmuring chlorinated water, the platform would be visible to the naked eye. But it’s about the Thames. Here the water is so dark, wavy and dirty that if an illusionist thought to walk over drowned men dressed in multi-colored feathers, no one would notice this.

The rowers who swam defiantly behind the back of Dynamo deserve no criticism at all. But we still criticize. The immersion depth of a single kayak is no more than 15 cm.

And if you look closely at this photo, you will see how massive Dynamo’s sneakers are and how significantly they increase his height. This allows kayaks to float over the platform without disturbing it.

And, finally, in this photo we can observe the swell, which is formed only at shallow depths.

In 1912, this trick was performed by the notorious Harry Houdini. Since then, getting out of the water box has become one of the most respected magic tricks in the world, well, just a crème de la crème of illusions.

There are dozens of interpretations of liberation. In particular, because, before settling in Copperfield’s personal collection, the original box dangled for a long time in an unknown place and it was not easy to establish the exact technique of performing the trick.

Focus actively acted in films: for example, in the already mentioned “Prestige” and “Doctor House” (season 4, episode 8 “It’s better for you not to know”). But we chose the version of the illusionist duo Sherri and Krall because in 2012, on the centenary of the trick, they repeated the Houdini trick exactly as the maestro performed it. Unless a man climbs into a box of water, but a woman.

Appearance

Reality

The secret of the trick is mostly in the lock of the camera. Well, in the excellent physical preparation of the illusionist, who has to get out of it.

As Krall, acting as an assistant, locks the locks on the lid, Sherry discreetly removes the rods from the hinges holding the lid. Therefore, in order to get out, it is enough for a girl to tighten her abdominal muscles, pull herself up and get out of the open chamber.

You may have just stretched out on the couch and muttered, “Just think, anyone can do it.” In fact, the Chinese water torture chamber is considered a real death row.

Judge for yourself: the stunt performer spends at least three minutes hanging upside down, which is a test in itself. Add to this immersion in water, the need for physical exertion and the risk of passing out from the influx of blood to the head. Still, it’s nice that there are people who are ready to risk their lives for our amusement.

To become famous all over the world, David Seth Kotkin had to not only take a prettier surname, but also deprive Americans of their national dignity for a few minutes. The second, by the way, turned out to be much easier than many people think.

Appearance

Reality

As you must have read on Wikipedia, the Statue of Liberty stands on a small island, far from the city lights. The only sources of light on the island come from the statue’s own lighting system.

Therefore, when a white cloth rises in front of the spectators’ noses, all that is required is simply to turn off the internal and external lighting of the girl with the torch.

The white cloth descends and the audience gasps in unison as the statue disappears. Although in fact they should gasp at how imperfect human vision is: the audience cannot see the copper 9A 3-meter colossus, as they were blinded by illuminated poles on which the fabric is stretched.

When, a few minutes later, Copperfield lifts the cloth, again shielding the statue from the public, their eyes have not yet had time to adapt and see the outlines dear to the heart of the Yankees.

As for the spotlights crossing the “empty” space, this is also an optical illusion. The searchlights were installed not on the sides of the statue, but in front of it, and, directed vertically, they did not touch the statue and created the illusion of emptiness.

Later, when the disappearance was televised, gullible viewers were shown footage taken from a helicopter. And here is a video montage: the statue was removed from the pedestal ahead of time.

The Metamorphosis trick, invented by illusionist John Nevil Maskelyne in the 19th century, has become legendary in the 20th century. To the best of their ability, all magicians tried to perform it, from Houdini to Mark Wilson, and each brought something new to the act.

Jonathan and Charlotte Pendragon were especially distinguished in improving Metamorphoses. They got their hands and other parts of their bodies into this trick so much that they pulled off the climax in a record-breaking two seconds. With these miserable seconds, the Pendragons entered the 50th anniversary edition of the Guinness Book of Records.

Appearance

Reality

First, of course, the bag. The bag is not as simple as it seems. Please note that we never see its bottom, it is always hidden from us by a chest.

Therefore, even though Charlotte honestly hides her husband in a sack and ties him up, Jonathan can always get out through the holey bottom of the sack. Which he does as soon as Charlotte closes the lid.

As for the lock, it also locks properly. Well, who cares that inside the chest is equipped with a system for pushing the top cover. As soon as Charlotte climbs onto the box, she closes it and herself with black cloth and at the same time rests against the side walls of the chest. This is where the magic begins.

Jonathan, already out of the bag, pulls back the lid. Charlotte does not fall because the side walls she is standing on are stationary. Jonathan stands up on the lid of the drawer and takes the cloth from Charlotte’s hands.

Having passed the baton, the girl jumps into the chest and slams the lid. At the same moment, Jonathan throws back the fabric and appears before the audience – out of breath and shiny with pride.

While he is bowing, his wife manages to rip off her top swimsuit, under which another one of a contrasting color is hidden (although, you must admit, a greater effect would be achieved if Mrs. Pendragon jumped out of the chest naked). It remains only to climb into the bag, which Charlotte successfully does.

Meanwhile, Jonathan defiantly draws his saber and unlocks the useless lock. He unties the sack, and – what a surprise! – his wife is in the bag. In a swimsuit of a different color!

Approximately according to this scheme, “Metamorphoses” are always performed. The Pendragons proved to be the fastest performers of the illusion due to their excellent physical shape and the ability to jump from the chest and back without accidentally breaking their neck.

Everyone to court!

As you can imagine, illusionists really don’t like having their tricks revealed. When at 19In 1997, the first American program from the series “Secrets of the Great Magicians” was released, magicians’ unions around the world sounded the alarm. This did not help: the program, which dissects tricks in detail, is still being filmed. Actually, her contribution to the preparation of this material is invaluable. The host of the program, magician Val Valentino, explained that he reveals tricks so that his colleagues come up with new ones. But we suspect he’s making shows for fame and money.

Illusionists are also very fond of going to court and finding out who was the first to come up with the idea of pulling a rabbit out of a sawn box, floating in weightlessness. Yes, at 19In the 1930s, the case of the magician Horace Goldin against the tobacco company R.J. received wide publicity. Reynolds Tobacco Company, which used explanations of his patented “cutting a woman apart” trick in an advertisement for new cigarettes. The ad campaign was called “It’s fun to be fooled… But it’s even more fun to know” and consisted entirely of exposing tricks. Goldin never won the case, but henceforth he was more careful and, in order to avoid leakage of information, did not even begin to patent his next high-profile trick, in which he sawed the assistant not with an ordinary saw, but with a circular saw.

Cool tricks with cards and their secrets. Spectacular and simple card tricks for everyone. Examples of simple tricks with cards

Many people want to master the magic of card tricks and become real professionals. It is best to start learning the art of card tricks with the simplest tricks, which, nevertheless, are also quite effective and will help develop memory, attention, reaction and the ability to distract the attention of the audience. All these qualities should be possessed by any person who decides to perfectly master the ability to show.

The simplest tricks that develop memory and attention

The simplest trick to start with allows you to learn how to correctly distract the viewer’s attention. To display it does not require special sleight of hand, you only need a deck of cards. The magician invites the viewer to choose any card from his “magic” deck and put it on top of the deck. After that, the novice illusionist, without ceasing to conduct a casual conversation with the viewer, looking directly at him, takes the deck in his hands, puts them behind his back and quickly turns over the top card. Next, the deck is taken out and its bottom is shown to the viewer on an outstretched hand with the question of whether the bottom card is of the same suit. In this case, the inverted chosen card looks directly at the magician. Regardless of the answer received, the deck is again moved behind the back. The selected card, which the performer has already memorized, is turned over to its original position. Knowing the card, the magician gives the deck to the viewer with a request to mix it as thoroughly as possible and, with a mysterious look, begins to search for the selected card. At this stage, in search of the desired card, you can turn on fantasy and train in the techniques of verbal influence on the viewer.

The following simple trick requires only attention, the ability to distract the audience and a little sleight of hand from the beginning illusionist. When showing this trick, the illusionist guesses the top 3 cards of the three piles on which the deck is laid out. The demonstration begins with a shuffling of the deck, at the end of which the magician, distracting the attention of the audience, for example, with a funny anecdote, remembers the bottom card and puts it on top with an imperceptible movement. Further, anyone who wishes is invited to divide the deck into 3 piles. Knowing the top card in one of the piles, the magician calls the card that he remembered, but takes a card from any other pile, without showing the audience, looks at the card and puts it face down on the table. Then he calls the one he took first, and takes the next top card. The last card that the magician remembers is taken, and the card taken from the second pile is called. Now the cards can be shown to the audience.

The simplest mathematical trick

Another simple trick that develops attention and mathematical thinking is a trick with guessing a card from a reduced deck of 21 cards. The cards are laid out in front of the viewer in three rows of 7 cards, after which the magician asks to guess any card and name the row in which it lies. Next, the deck is assembled in such a way that the indicated row is located in the middle of the deck and is again laid out in equal rows – this time vertically, the viewer again calls the row with the intended card. The procedure for collecting and laying out in rows is performed again, the specified row should also be located in the middle of the deck, the viewer calls the row for the last time. The magician, making sure that the named row is in the middle, collects the deck for the last time and begins to lay out cards one at a time. The intended card will always be the 11th from the top.

Once you have mastered these 3 simple tricks and practiced performing them accurately and naturally, you can begin to learn more complex card tricks.

How do you spend your free time? Do you like to play computer games, take cool tests, communicate on social networks, but what about learning tricks? Surprise your friends here!

The most important thing in performing any tricks is persistent practice. You can get acquainted with the simplest trick and learn how to perform it step by step in at least half an hour, but in order for everything to really succeed and not be exposed, you need to train a lot and for a long time, honing your technique and skill. You need to learn tricks by moving from simple to complex, so next we will talk about how to learn how to do tricks that any beginner can handle.

Simple trick with cards

Those who want to learn how to do tricks often start with cards. Among card tricks, there are indeed a lot of easy options that you can quickly learn and surprise the audience with them, and one of the most popular of them is simple tricks with guessing cards. We will now consider one of them. The trick is called – “Guess the card.”

What the viewer sees.
The magician shuffles a deck of cards and hands it to someone in the audience to choose one of the cards. The spectator chooses his card, remembers it and, without showing it to anyone, gives it face down to the magician. The magician returns the card to the deck, shuffles it again, lays out the cards and unmistakably finds the spectator card!

The secret of the focus.
Take a deck of cards and shuffle it. Attention: the key to this trick is to discreetly peek which card will be the bottom, that is, the last one in the deck.

The spectator chooses a card and returns it to you. Divide the deck arbitrarily in half – you have two parts of the cards in your hands, one of which contains the bottom card – you memorized it at the very beginning. Put the spectator card on one part of the deck and cover it on top with the second part. The spectator sees that his card is now hidden, but you know that it lies under the very bottom card.

Lay out the cards in a fan, then look for your bottom card with your eyes – next to it on the right will be the one that the viewer has guessed. Voila! At the same time, do not choose it too quickly, for example, pretend that you are trying to feel the energy emanating from the card – entertain the viewer.

The coin passes through the glass

The next simple trick is the trick with the glass and the coin. It is more difficult than the previous one, because it requires a certain manual dexterity.

From the viewer.
The magician shows the audience a coin, takes it in the fist of one hand, and the other brings a glass to him, then knocks the glass on the hand with the coin – and it is inside, passing through the bottom!

Actually.
Choose a large coin and a glass, plastic or glass. Show the audience a coin and then act as if you are shifting it to your other hand, covering your palm from above and as if raking the coin in your fist. But the coin, of course, remains in the same hand where it was.

This is the key point: it is important to practice and learn how to hold a coin with an open palm or clamp it between the palm and the little finger, whichever is more convenient for you – the main thing is that it stays inconspicuous and does not fall out.

With the same hand in which you hold the coin, you take the glass and bring it over the hand with your fist, where the coin lies, according to the audience. Tap the glass on your fist several times. At the last knock, relax your hand so that the coin falls into the glass, and at this moment open your palm with your fist, simulating the passage of a coin through the bottom of the glass. It is important to work out this number well so that everything turns out deftly and at the same time quickly, and the audience does not have time to come to their senses and expose you.

Match trick

Finally, we’ll show you how to do match tricks that require only sleight of hand.

How the audience sees.
The magician holds a match between the fingers of both hands. Placing them perpendicularly, he strikes the matches against each other, as a result of which one match passes through the second.

The secret of the focus.
Moisten the index finger of your right hand before handling matches. After that, pinch the matches between the thumb and forefinger of each hand. The key to this trick is that, held in the right hand, the match with the sulfur head touches the moistened index finger and therefore sticks to it, and if you open your fingers, the match will still continue to “hang”.

Turn the matches held in your fingers perpendicular to each other. Now begin to lead the left match to the right, and at the moment of their collision, unclench your fingers, skipping the left match forward, and then squeeze back. You need to learn how to do it quickly and sharply, imitating the blow of matches – then the audience will not notice the catch.

How to learn to do tricks with a handkerchief

Spectators also love tricks with a handkerchief. One of the most popular such tricks is “Passing a coin through a handkerchief”. How to learn how to do it, it will become clear after watching the following video:

In order for your performance to make the right impression on the audience and surprise even the simplest tricks, remember a few golden rules that experienced illusionists follow: do not repeat magic tricks for an encore, do not tell the technique for performing them, and do not warn the audience about what trick you will be do next. So the effect of surprise will be achieved, and the riddle will remain.

Take it for yourself, tell your friends!

But then, we start mixing the deck in an absolutely strange way – we interfere with its backs to the faces! We interfere with this several times and lift as much as you like! We lay out the cards with a ribbon, and what we see with the viewer is complete chaos!

Everything, it would seem, can’t be found on the map. BUT! Remember the name of the trick! “Don’t be a magician” 🙂 We snap a finger and …. we take out one card from all this mess, which lies face down.

And this is really a spectator’s card! We remember the surprised and uncomprehending face of the viewer, and then we go into the sunset to thunderous applause .. 🙂

After all, any person, even an adult, even a child, wants to believe in miracles!

Let’s consider some of the most incredible, but performed by simple tricks with cards that surprise street magicians and ordinary home magicians from the circle of friends and relatives.

Basic requirements for magicians

Even if the trickster is just a beginner, without mastering the basic techniques, nothing will work.

Therefore, first of all, you need to work on the following points:

  • learn different types of deck shuffling, especially the false one. So many tricks, from the simplest to the most complex, are based precisely on the ability to discreetly leave the deck unshuffled. Although outwardly everything looks like the cards are carefully mixed;
  • master the technique of laying out cards in a fan, waterfall, dividing the deck into absolutely equal parts, counting in hands;
  • to master the principles of figured false card cuts.

When these rules are brought to automaticity in execution, the magician can perform simple tricks easily and naturally, always achieving the desired effect. In addition, with such a base, you can safely move forward and begin to study the intricacies of more complex tricks.

You can see in detail the options for false shuffles (raises) for any tricks here:

Simple card tricks – amazing and bewitching

Let’s give an example of several simple tricks that are very popular and with which many modern famous wizards began their magical career.

Guessing several cards made by different people. The basis is mathematical. The cards are laid out exactly in as many piles as the number of people who volunteered to take part and made them. An important point of this trick in the sequence of stacking.
Strictly clockwise and alternate. Take 4 cards from the top of the deck and ask the first person to remember any of them, then the next four with the involvement of the second person, and so on. How many people there will be, so many piles according to the corresponding number of cards in it (for example, 3 people – offer three cards each, and so on). The result of the trick is that when the card is turned over from the piles, exactly the one that was intended by the viewer appears on top.

A simple and beautiful trick with cards for beginner wizards, when a card chosen by the spectator is placed anywhere in the deck, and as a result it turns out in an unfolded fan turned upside down among all the others. Although the magician did practically nothing, he just shook the pack in front of the audience.

This selection of difficult tricks will help you decide which tricks are the best to start your difficult journey with.

Trick “Triumph”

The magician allows the spectator to shuffle the deck, and then choose any card and write something on it with a marker so that it does not get lost and substitution is excluded. Then the trickster picks up the deck and, having made several “magic” movements, lays out a ribbon in front of the audience, in which everyone sees with amazement the cards coming in the factory order and in order by suit. And he pulls out exactly the one chosen by the viewer, which turns out to be in a place of strict chronological order. For example, if the chosen card was 6 clubs, then it will lie between 5 clubs and 7 clubs. Focus is simply stormy delight and amazement. You can learn this trick here:

Illusion Focus

Spectator selects a card from the deck and memorizes it. The magician puts it in the middle, and then, after shuffling the deck, asks the spectator to choose any three cards from the top six. The spectator chooses and in front of his eyes the magician lays out these three cards in front of him, turns them over, and there … the card chosen by the spectator for the first time and two jokers and not a trace of the three that should have been on top! You can learn this beautiful illusion here:

Best Card Trick Trick

Made with 4 black cards and 4 aces. Before the eyes of the viewer, the magician lays out 4 aces in the corners of the table and, in an absolutely incredible way, with the help of 4 black cards and magical movements with his hands, he collects a fan of aces in one corner. Seen, it seems simply unreal. A detailed description of the technique of the trick is here.

Card tricks 36 cards. Hocus pocus: how to learn card tricks

In this article we will tell and offer instructions on how to create interesting tricks. You can surprise guests and friends with them.

Various tricks, manipulation of people’s minds today is considered to be one of the types of performing arts. Illusionism originates in the distant 17th century, it is this time that the first mention of magicians dates back. The ability to surprise people with the help of sleight of hand, various tricks makes it possible not only to earn money, but also simply to amuse people.

What are some simple and easy tricks and how to do them?

Watching how deftly magicians turn everything around into sheer magic with quite simple hand movements, almost all of us begin to believe in miracles. However, in reality, most “miracles” are just sleight of hand and the ability to captivate the audience.

At first glance, it may seem that we, ordinary people, are simply unable to repeat something like this, but by devoting a little time to this matter, we will be able to convince ourselves of the opposite.

So, we present to your attention the simplest tricks.

  1. “Magic number”
. This trick does not require even sleight of hand from you, however, at the right time it will amuse friends and defuse the situation. To implement such a trick, you need to do the following:
  • Ask the person to guess any number between 2 and 20.
  • The hidden number must be multiplied by 9.
  • Now ask to add two digits of the received number.
  • Then subtract 4 from the resulting number.
  • The result of all the above manipulations will be the same hidden number, ask to remember it, but not to name it. Agree, it would not be interesting to finish the focus just like that.
  • So say you need to think a little. At this time, ask to guess the letter that will correspond to this number. Guided by a simple rule, counting in order, for example, the number 1 is the letter A, the number 2 is B, etc.
  • In our case, this is the letter D.
  • Then ask the viewer to guess the country for this letter.
  • After all this, announce the result. Most likely, the viewer will think of Denmark, since the letter D is the most common option.

Let’s look at an example:

  • Let’s say a person thinks of the number 5
  • 5 multiply by 9 and get 45
  • Now add 4 and 5 and get 9
  • Subtract 4 from 9 and get 5
  • 5 was the number that was originally guessed
  1. Guess the vegetable
. This trick also depends not on sleight of hand and the ability to mislead the public, but on human psychology. But the simplest tricks are based on such “magic”:
  • So, you take 2 pieces of paper and write on the first cucumber, on the second tomato. Then put one piece of paper in the left pocket, and the second in the right, the main thing in this matter is not to confuse where which piece of paper lies. Why these 2 vegetables? According to statistics, these vegetables in our country are the most common and often called. If you are in another country or want to impress foreigners, then this nuance must be taken into account. Because each person names the vegetable that he uses most often.
  • Next, give each participant a piece of paper and a pen.
  • While you are doing all these manipulations, you should not tell the guests what exactly they will need to do.
  • Distracting people’s attention. We ask you to count something, to guess the riddle, that is, we divert their attention from the focus itself.
  • After all the actions, ask all the guests to write any vegetable on a piece of paper without hesitation. Mandatory requirement to write immediately on command, without thinking.
  • Now ask one of the spectators to read out what he wrote, and pull out a piece of paper with the corresponding vegetable.
  • Attribute your success to well-developed telepathic abilities, joking about it, of course.
  • Of course, such a trick, like all the others, has a certain chance of failing. You need to be prepared for this, so figure out in advance what you will say and how to act if, instead of the well-known cucumber, someone writes the word “Romanesco”, which is far from clear to everyone. By the way, the latter is a variety of cabbage.
  1. Magic beads
. This is a very spectacular and interesting trick, however, for its correct execution, it is necessary to show sleight of hand and attentiveness so that the guests see magic, and not truly scattered beads:
  • So, for a successful trick, we need an assistant, a person from the audience, a company who will give his beads for the trick (necessarily with a clasp), fishing line, scissors, an empty glass, a sheet of paper.
  • The magic itself lies in the next moment. You take beads, demonstrate to the public that they are intact. Next, take the beads and, distracting the audience, thread the fishing line through all the beads, next to the main thread. Tie the ends of the fishing line – all this, of course, should be invisible to the eyes of all guests.
  • Take the necklace by the string and show the audience that it looks like an ordinary piece of jewelry, however, now you can safely cut the extra thread.
  • Now comes a very crucial moment, you have to cut the fishing line and simulate the falling of the beads into the glass, gradually releasing them from your hands.
  • Well, it would seem that the end of the trick, but no.
  • From a piece of paper you make a kind of little bag and put allegedly torn beads into it, then send a thread there.
  • A few magic words-spells, a couple of hand movements and you get a whole and unharmed piece of jewelry
  • After that, be sure to focus on the leaf, straightening it, showing that it is without a secret.
  • It is better to take a glass cup, not too high, as a container in which we will fill the beads (supposedly a torn jewelry). Items such as a bag, a plate, especially an opaque one, will not work and will make guests doubt your abilities.
  • The decoration must be held by the upper edge of our additional thread, and we will cut the bottom edge. At the same time, keep the beads low above the container, otherwise the guests will be able to see that the decoration has fallen as a whole, and not the beads individually, as it should be.
  • Such a trick is not at all difficult, but before showing it with someone else’s thing, it’s better to hone the art on your own.

There are still a huge number of other, no less interesting tricks, some of them will be discussed further.

How to learn to do magic tricks with cards: step by step instructions, secrets

This is perhaps one of the most common tricks that even novice illusionists can do. That is why now we will consider the most interesting of them.

  1. Tricks with 4 kings
. The simplest trick that even the most inexperienced fakir can show. In this issue, it is very important not only to show magic, but also to tell a fascinating story, which, in addition to informing the public, also distracts it.
  • So, the first thing to do is to draw all the kings from the deck, as well as any 3 more cards.
  • We stack the cards in our hands in such a way that only the kings can be seen by the guests. Additional cards should be behind the kings.
  • Next, we begin to tell the story of a bank robbery. The bottom line is that the kings want to rob a bank, and they want to get into the room through the roof of the building.
  • At this stage, all 7 cards must be placed with the rest of the deck. The back of the cards must be on top, exactly, as well as 3 additional cards. We say that the kings hit the roof.
  • Now you take the first card from the top (the spare, but people will think it’s the king because they don’t know about the additional cards). At the same time, be careful and do not show anyone what kind of card it is. Say that this is one of the kings who will stand on the 1st floor and put the card somewhere on the bottom of the deck.
  • The second king (also a spare card) is sent to the 2nd floor, in the middle of the deck.
  • The 3rd king (last spare card) will be on guard in the basement, place in the middle of the deck.
  • The last king (really the king, the first in the deck) remains on the roof, show this card to the audience.
  • The king, who was watching everything on the roof, reports that the police are heading towards them and everyone should immediately come to him. Tap the deck 4 times, supposedly calling all the kings, and then open the last 4 cards
  • They must all be kings.
  • After that, invite someone who wants to see that the deck is not fake and that there are no more kings in it.
  • In this trick, the most important thing is to quietly take 4 kings and 3 more cards, and then quietly fold the fan of cards.
  1. Here’s another simple card-guessing trick.
  • You hold an ordinary deck of cards in your hands and show it to the audience
  • Next, anyone who wishes must choose a card and put it on top of the deck, while you, of course, should not see the card
  • Now remove the deck and put the bottom part on top. During this manipulation, we peep the bottom card of the deck, it will be a guide for us
  • Then one by one lay out the deck of cards with pictures up. The card we need will lie in front of the bottom card of the deck, which we memorized
  • So that the focus does not fail, do not rush to lay out the cards. In this case, even if there is some kind of hitch, it will be written off to the desired script

How to learn to do tricks with a coin: step by step instructions, secrets

Such tricks always delight guests and spectators. In order to be interesting to show representations with such elements, of course, you need to practice, because here the point is solely in the sleight of your hands and their location.

  1. For the first trick we need 2 any cards from the deck, a small thin magnet, 2 identical coins, glue, glass and scissors
  • First, let’s prepare the props. The magnet must be thin, otherwise it will be visible and it will ruin the whole focus. You can buy it from craft stores, or you can borrow it from any of the decorative magnets we usually use to wrap refrigerators.
  • Now we take the card and glue a magnet on its front side.
  • After that, carefully stick one more of the same card on top. We glue it so that visually the card is no different from the others in the deck.
  • When all this is done, put the card in the deck so that the trick is more believable and the audience does not understand what its essence is. You can easily identify the card, because in the hands it will feel good that it is thicker than the rest.
  • Further, as a matter of fact, it is already necessary to show the focus itself. But you must first check whether your coins are magnetized, because it happens that there is no such effect. In this case, a miracle will not happen and you will be exposed.
  • Everything is ready. Begin. We go out to the audience and explain that now you will show how the coin will literally seep through the card and fall into the glass.
  • Put a glass on the table, you have a deck of cards in your hands, the coins are neatly and discreetly hidden behind the container.
  • We shuffle a deck of cards, sort through them in search of the right one, pull it out and throw it on the table, right on one coin. Be careful, the card should “pick up” only one coin.
  • Next, without twisting the card, without showing it to the audience, put it on the glass.
  • Then we take the second coin, show it to the guests and sharply hit the glass with it. As a result, the coin, which is actually already in the glass on the magnet, will fall into the glass.
  • At this point, with a deft movement of your hands, you must take the coin you knocked with and remove it from people’s eyes.
  • Almost at the same time as the previous action, you must show a glass covered with a card, with a coin inside.
  • Be careful with the size of the magnet, consider this fact when choosing a coin. A big coin needs a big magnet. The size of the magnet should be at least a couple of times larger than the size of the coin. In this case, you can casually throw a card on the table and be sure that the item will be magnetized. Otherwise, the miracle may not happen.

How to learn to do tricks with your fingers: step by step instructions, secrets

Tricks with hands and fingers deserve special attention. Agility and speed of movement are always in the first place. It is appropriate to show such tricks not at various children’s events, at home. You need to refrain from them on the street and if the audience is too close to you.

  1. Broken finger.
This trick is quite simple, however, you need to do all the movements quickly, clearly, without hesitation
  • Spectators must not see the back of the hand when performing this trick
  • Show your hands to the audience, twist them
  • Show guests one hand with the thumb pointing up
  • Next, we put the second hand to this hand so that we can grab the thumb of the first hand into a fist with it
  • Making a fist with index and middle fingers
  • Now we slightly open our fist, quickly press the thumb to the palm, send the thumb of the other hand in its place. At the same time, his nail should be slightly visible between the index and middle fingers
  • After that, trying, applying efforts, “tear off” the finger with a sharp movement, showing the hand, the thumb of which will be pressed to the palm
  • Now we return the finger to its place. Initially, we press our hands to each other and gently, but quickly straighten our thumb into a fist. Next, remove the fist and pull out the thumb of the second hand, which is shown between the middle and index fingers
  • That’s all the finger is in place, and the audience is delighted

At first glance, the trick may seem difficult, but in fact it is not, it just takes a little practice. And one more very important point, all the roughness should be hidden by the game of your face. Do not be afraid to show emotions during the focus, to scream when you “tear off” your finger and rejoice when it appears again in place. All these little things will make viewers pay attention only to the necessary details

How to learn how to do tricks with paper: step by step instructions, secrets

Paper tricks, this is exactly what a beginner illusionist needs. The props of such numbers are always available, and even a child can perform them.

  • We’ll start with a joke number that will help you set the audience on the right wavelength. There will be no magic and sleight of hand in the room. So, you give a piece of paper and a pencil to anyone and ask them to write any words or sentence there.
  • Next, ask this piece of paper to pass to any other person and promise that you will write the same thing on your piece of paper. Then a couple of seconds of silence, as if you are trying to guess the word and write “the same thing” on the sheet, then having prepared the audience for the result, show the sheet with the inscription, voice it, explaining that you fulfilled the promise and wrote the same thing.

Now that the guests are in a playful mood, you can perform the following tricks. We will analyze the simplest and at the same time interesting of them:

  • Drawing a masterpiece in front of the public. So, we need to take an easel, paints, brushes, a sheet of fairly thin paper, a reproduction of a painting, oil.
  • The essence of the trick is that you first wrap the picture with paper and attach it to the easel. Next, place a sheet of clean paper on it and start drawing.
  • The audience sees that you are taking paint with a brush, but in fact there should also be oil on the palette. Having dipped the brush into the oil, as if drawing, begin to drive it over the paper.
  • The paper will begin to oil and the image of the painting will begin to develop.
  • In a matter of seconds you will draw a masterpiece right in front of all the viewers.
  • When doing a trick, do not forget about facial expressions and playing with the audience.

We recommend that you start with just such simple tricks, they will help you learn how to behave in front of people, “play” in public. Only after you have mastered how to show such illusions, move on to something more complex, where, for example, everything will depend on the dexterity of your hands and the ability to keep the audience on their toes.

How to learn how to do disappearing tricks: step by step instructions, secrets

The most interesting tricks, according to many people, are the disappearing tricks. After all, to believe that the object that was just in front of you has disappeared is simply unrealistic, but we can even do this.

  1. Pencil disappearing trick.
The key to your success is a rather loose shirt with long sleeves.
  • We take a pencil in our hands and hold its edges from 2 sides with three fingers: thumb, index and middle
  • We show guests only the front side of the fingers
  • We begin to put pressure on the pencil with the fingers of the right hand. Thus, we slightly move it towards the wrist of the right limb
  • Next, we make some simple manipulations with our hands, as if distracting the audience. For example, a couple of movements up and down
  • Next, we squeeze the fingers on the left hand so that the pencil lies completely on the wrist of the right hand
  • Now it’s up to the little things, quickly but carefully put the pencil in the right sleeve
  • Then we show the audience that there is no pencil
  • You need to do the trick quickly, distracting the guests with your movements, facial expressions, etc.
  • It is not necessary to show such a trick without practicing in advance, since such “magic” tends not to occur

Fading tricks

  1. Here’s another very simple coin disappearance trick.
. We need a table covered with a tablecloth, a coin and, of course, spectators. The trick must be shown while sitting, and the guests should not be located on the side of the magician, but in front of him, at a sufficient distance (not immediately in front of the table).
  • So, put the coin on the table. It is very important to put it not too far from the edge of the table. 10 cm will be enough
  • Next, we begin to intensively rub the coin into the table with the whole palm. In this case, each movement of the hand should slip the coin closer to the edge, until it finally sends it to your knees
  • After that, without fussing with the same rubbing movements, return the hand to the place where the coin was originally, and make a couple of movements only with the fingers, and not with the whole palm
  • We start to say a funny spell, words, and sharply raise our hand
  • We are surprised to say that it worked
  • During all these manipulations, you need to take the coin from your knees with your left hand, in order to then “get” it completely from an unexpected place

How to learn to do tricks with a handkerchief: step by step instructions, secrets

Handkerchief tricks are standard at all fakirs’ performances, and for good reason. It is tricks with such props that are done quite easily, however, they always make a special impression on the audience.

  1. So, we need a handkerchief, an assistant and, in principle, nothing else, only sleight of hand and the ability to tie knots in a special way.
  • Any spectator can be chosen as an assistant
  • Next, take a scarf, it should be large enough and twist it so that you get a tourniquet
  • Now we take a twisted handkerchief and put it on the person’s hand, doing it from the bottom up. That is, the handkerchief fabric will hold the hand from the underside
  • We must place the left end of the fabric in our left hand between the index and middle fingers. We hold the right end arbitrarily
  • Next, put the right end of the handkerchief between the ring and middle fingers. At this point, there is already an air loop on the viewer’s hand
  • The right end, after being placed between the indicated fingers, must look towards the thumb and lie on the left end
  • We press the middle finger to the palm. At this time, the thumb and middle fingers of the left hand hold the right end of the fabric
  • We take the left end of the scarf, thread it through the resulting loop and continue to hold the right end with the left hand, tighten the loop
  • Visually, it will seem that one strong knot has been made on a person’s hand
  • Next, wrap the hand in the opposite direction with the right end of the handkerchief, after which we tie one simple knot and at the end of this manipulation we sharply tighten the knots
  • At this moment, all viewers will see a miracle – a handkerchief, passing through a person’s hand, literally jumps off it and ties into a knot in the hands of a skilled magician

The trick with the disappearance of the scarf and the appearance of the rose is also very popular, however, these tricks require special props, so we recommend that you initially hone your skills on the simplest trick presented above, and only then move on to something more complex.

How to learn to do magic tricks with an elastic band: step by step instructions, secrets

Rubber band tricks are slightly less popular than others, however, for a beginner magician, these tricks are considered the most suitable.

  1. We need to take a ring, cut rubber band:
  • So what do we do next? We stretch the elastic band through the decoration, while it is important to stretch it not for its entire length, but only for a couple of cm
  • The rest of the gum will be hidden in our hand
  • Then raise the hand that holds the band without the ring and shake it slightly
  • At this point, the decoration will fall down the other end
  • Now you should very carefully and gradually begin to release the edge of the elastic that is loose. The ring will then rise up

During this trick it is very important not to rush and do all the movements very smoothly, otherwise the rubber band may jump out of your hands and the ring will simply fall to the floor.

How to learn to do magic tricks with a cigarette: step by step instructions, secrets

Tricks with cigarettes are very unusual tricks, however, for their performance we need a special prop – the same cigarette.

  1. So, the first trick is a disappearing cigarette in the nose
. From the props, we take a special fake cigarette. As a rule, an elastic band is attached to the end of the cigarette from the side of the filter, with which you will get rid of it during the trick. The filter itself moves over the cigarette, with the help of which the effect is obtained that the cigarette is placed in the nose.
  • We take a cigarette, previously under the jacket in the sleeve area, fasten the elastic band, creating tension
  • Next, we hold a cigarette in our hand and put it to the edge of the nose, so that the viewer can visually see that the cigarette is just at the nose hole
  • Starting to move the props filter up, making it look like the cigarette is sinking into the nose
  • After that, let go of the cigarette, the gum works, and the props quietly fly away
  1. And another no less exciting trick with a special cigarette.
The peculiarity of this cigarette is that it looks like a real one, but inside it is hollow and it can be seen from the side of the filter. Also included with the props is a tube – a kind of case for the same cigarette, when the cigarette gets there it is not visible due to the fact that its cavity is black, like the cavity of the case. With all this, an ordinary person will not be able to get it without the help of a magician, and in principle this is what we need.
  • Well, the focus is on the shrinking cigarette. To be more precise, we put an allegedly ordinary cigarette into the case, and take out a very small
  • In the cavity of a large cigarette we put its reduced copy
  • Use your finger to press down on the part where the cigarette could fall out. We show the audience that the cigarette is quite ordinary, and put it in a case
  • After that, close the case with a cap and pronounce any magic words
  • Shaking a small cigarette out of the case
  • The case can be given into the hands of guests and spectators; visually, a cigarette is not visible in it and it will not get out of there, even if you knock on the case

Showing tricks is not as easy as it might seem at first glance, because it is not just hand movements, it is a whole action that must be accompanied by real magic.

  • Show tricks only after long workouts. You shouldn’t tempt fate. Train at home in front of a mirror, so you will see everything that is happening, as if from the side
  • Always be prepared for things to go wrong. In this case, you need not to get confused, but quickly and quietly fix error
  • If there is no way to correct the mistake, you need to be able to quickly switch people’s attention to another object, focus, etc.
  • Hone not only manual dexterity, but also acting skills, because by showing tricks, you literally play the role of a magician. Don’t be afraid to be funny, pronounce words clearly and with appropriate intonation
  • Showing tricks, do not rush, there is no need to rush in this matter. You need to do quickly only those movements and manipulations that the viewer can notice, do them differently
  • Before showing a trick to a large number of people, show it to someone from your family and ask for an objective assessment. Based on this, decide whether you have enough skills to demonstrate such an illusion
  • If you work with props, don’t skimp on them, otherwise they will easily let you down at the wrong time

To create miracles and magic is not so difficult, for this you need to be patient and show all your imagination and dexterity. Training and your desire will definitely bring you a positive result.

Video: How to perform tricks – spectacular tricks and their secrets

This question worries many people. Card tricks look very, very impressive. And the more incredible the performance of the trick seems to the audience, the more impressive it is. Almost every person who has picked up cards at least once wonders how to do tricks with cards. In this article, we will look at several options to show that everyone can master this art.

Preparation

As you know, the principle of “sleight of hand and no fraud” is the basis of almost every magic trick. That is why the magician himself will require some preparation. We are talking about the ability to shuffle cards in several ways, to do a trick in time, as well as the ability to divert the audience’s eyes at the right moment.

It is highly recommended that you first learn how to shuffle cards. There are special materials for beginners, where everything is described in detail. A beginner who is wondering how to learn how to do it is not at all necessary to immediately get into professional tricks. At first, you can start with simple tricks, such as “4 by 4”. This trick has other names, “castle” for example. Its essence lies in the fact that 4 jacks, 4 queens, 4 kings and 4 aces are laid out sequentially in 4 piles.

4 8s: Idea

If you’re the kind of person who wonders how to learn how to do card tricks to keep kids entertained, then this trick is for you.

Its essence lies in the fact that 4 cards – eights – are laid out on the table (or other horizontal surface). All stripes, respectively. To perform this trick, by the way, different decks of cards are suitable, as well as 52. So, when the cards are already laid out face up, the magician advises the viewer (it can be either a child or a person of a different age) to guess one card.

After the illusionist turns away, the spectator must turn the card 180 degrees. That is, so that the values are reversed, however, in fact, nothing has changed. When the spectator is finished, he informs the magician about this, he again turns to face the cards.

You (if you are playing the role of the one who does the trick) can make various movements imitating reading the spectator’s face, cards, and so on. After that, it remains only to name the correct answer.

4 eights: secret

If you look closely at all the cards except the diamond suit, you will notice one very interesting thing. The thing is that the suit pattern is located in three columns. Three patterns on the left and three patterns on the right, two in the middle. So, in the side lines, the central patterns can be directed either towards the magician or away from him. Since the diamond suit is represented by a rhombus, this rule does not apply to it.

That is why, when the magician turns back (having previously remembered where the suits are directed), he can see if one of the cards has changed direction. If yes, then this will be the answer. If the direction did not change, then the card of diamonds was turned. So we gave the answer to the question of how to do magic tricks with cards for beginners. As you can see, everything is quite simple. At least at first.

Transformation: an idea

The meaning of this trick is that the magician holds one card in his hands, and then, by clicking on it, presents a completely different one to the viewer’s gaze. A bit simple, but quite effective.

Transformation: secret

This trick is quite easy to perform. But from the first time you are unlikely to learn how to perform it, since it requires a certain skill and developed fingers. So, what is the secret of the transformation trick?

From the very beginning, the illusionist (of course, unnoticed by his viewer) takes two cards at once. One, which will be shown at the end, he places face up on the back of the main card, which is shown to the viewer at the beginning of the trick.

Cards should not be held in the “top-down” position, but in the “sideways” position. In this case, the index and middle fingers of the hand should lie on the front side of the main card from above, and the thumb – on the back of the spare card in the middle finger area. That is, the thumb and middle finger are on the same line, but from different sides.

Cards change at the same time as the click. Very fast, it should be noted. This is done by synchronously moving the fingers in different directions: the middle one pushes the old card back, the big one pushes the new one forward.

Note that the old card must be fixed in a certain position. Focus must be performed, always standing directly in relation to the viewer. There should be no rotations, shifts, reductions or elevations of the cards. Otherwise, the viewer will see that the second card is at the back.

Conclusion

Thus, by giving examples of two simple tricks, we answered the question: “with cards?” Training is quite simple, as you can see, there are no special difficulties. Of course, further tricks will be more difficult. But once you’ve learned the basics, you’ll be able to figure out the complex ones as well.

A lot of people want to master the magic of card tricks and become real professionals.

If you want to surprise your friends, then card tricks are what you need. Almost everyone likes such “magic”, although there is nothing magical about them. All it takes to master a few moves is a bit of practice, some artistry, and sometimes special equipment. The simplest tricks can be learned literally in the evening.

Magician

Successful performance requires basic mechanical skills

(replacing one card with another, shuffling in a certain order). The secret to most tricks is sleight of hand. Therefore, until you bring your actions to automatism, do not demonstrate to the audience.

The second important aspect of a successful performance is manipulation with the mind of the viewer

. Your goal is to distract the observer so that he does not concentrate on important details, to make him believe in a miracle. The real focus is a performance in which every little thing counts: your clothes, every look and every word must be prepared in advance. All transitions between actions should be clear and fast so that no one notices the catch.

IMPORTANT!
4 top tips for a magician:

  • Don’t reveal the trick.
  • Do not show the focus to the audience twice in a row.
  • Do not display a raw number.
  • Use only prepared speeches.

Simple tricks

If you haven’t done tricks before, it’s best to start with something simple. Watch the video and master these three tricks, and at the next meeting with your friends you will have something to surprise them with.

Three cards

3 Card Monte Trick

This trick is very popular among both illusionists and ordinary scammers (you have probably seen how on the street they offer to guess where the ace is for money). One of its names is

, learning it is not difficult at all.

Essence:

The secret can be different.
Someone is using pre-prepared gaff cards. For example, one of them may have a corner from the other (when the magician shows all three, he holds them in a “fan” so that this is not visible). Experienced illusionists use only sleight of hand. In total, there are dozens of variants of this trick.

Call a friend

Essence:
you ask the spectator to choose a card and show it to everyone around you.
Now we call a friend and pass the phone to the viewer. We clarify that the person’s name is Michael. And he really calls correctly!

The trick is
that all cards in the deck will get their own name. You and your assistant only need to memorize this code. When you pretend to give a person’s name, you are actually giving a hint.

Red-black

This trick involves two people and a magician

Essence:
guess two cards made by two different people.

How to do it:
collect all red suits in the upper part of the deck, and black suits in the lower part. Have the first person remove any card from the top, memorize it, and put it down. The second will need to do the opposite.

Then you quickly flip through the deck to see and remember the hidden ones (they will differ in suit from the rest), mix well, flip through again and take them out.
