The characteristics that make Vista High School great are the diversity of classes, from Culinary to Auto-shop, they offer great programs to get you started on your career. Although the sanitation and overall infrastructure of the school can be improved, a large proportion of the school area where classes are held are still occupied with “temporary” classrooms. I graduated four years ago and the only significant improvement were the bleachers. Graduation rates have been dropping and Vista High School holds the stigma of being “ghetto”. I feel as this affects incoming students who are now prone to the “self-fulfilling prophecy”, which is how you perform or act based on the expectations others have of you. If you see the school as lacking or ghetto, it can reflect back onto you lowering morale. More funds need to be placed into our educational sector!

I like that the school offers many different electives as well as ways to be successful. The counselors at high schools are great at keeping us connected about the events inside and outside of the district. However, some students are trouble, and take away from the learning environment. Punishment doesn’t seem to work for them and it is very overwhelming. It is unfair for students to receive less freedom because of those who ruin it for them. I definitely think some students should be recognized for their dedication to education, not just grades, but effort. I think effort is a great way to measure a students want for learning.

All the teachers I have had during my 4 years at Vista have been amazing. They were all helpful, understanding, and helpful when needed. Vista Unified lost one star though because, during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the school board chose a poorly handled way to have students go back to school classic mode. I feel as if they could have handled the situation much better. Props to the teachers who had to adjust to back and forth classic and virtual teaching ways. Much love to my teachers of 12th grade as they have been extremely understanding.
