We had a great Kinder teacher who cared about her students and was exceptional in creating a learning environment that always grasped the children’s attention. If you as a parent support the learning…They have a dedicated French and Spanish teacher and the program flows very well. Is it an immersion program, no, but my daughter is still speaking the French she did learn and it’s summer. Parent communication is great. I am very impressed by their weekly emails and monthly news letters!! Their goal is to purchase their own property for the school within the next few years as well. And they let go teachers who are not up to par. Versus full public institutions where they have to keep…I support this school whole heartily and make two 40 minute round trips a day, for pick up and drop off for my daughter to attend. Long story short, you get out of the school what you as a parent are….

California State University, CSU (Cal State) – California State University, USA
California State University, also known as CSU or Cal State, is one of the largest university systems in the United States, with 23 campuses and 8 additional study centers. The centers are created by the efforts of official campuses; they do not formally bear the name of universities, however, in the majority, they offer full-fledged bachelor’s programs and award recognized degrees, like official campuses.
Cal State was founded in 1960 and has almost half a million students, including not only Americans, but also foreigners. Thanks to government support, a system of discounts and scholarships, university tuition is affordable for many Californians. Studying for foreigners is significantly more expensive, while its cost is often lower than in private higher education institutions in the United States of a similar level.
The university teaches at all levels of higher education – undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate, offering a total of 1800 programs in 240 subject areas. Cal State not only conducts career-oriented education, but also has a powerful laboratory and technical equipment that allows preparing future scientists in most subject areas. Some campuses have retained the name they had before they were included in the California State University chain, and therefore not all names indicate affiliation with California State University.
Only four campuses offer graduate programs – San Diego State, Fresno State, San Francisco State, Cal State Fullerton, so they are annually included in the national rating of the U. S. news.

Education of children in California, education of a child in California: cost, reviews
California is a developed state of America, where schoolchildren and students from all over the world come with pleasure. This state contributed to the development of the American education system: it was here that in the 60s of the XX century a special group developed training programs for higher education, and as a result, a unified US higher education system was created. The main goal is to make high quality education accessible to all (this idea is still supported today). Every year, teaching methods are improved, preserving centuries-old traditions and standards.
A nice bonus of studying in California is that students have access to a beach holiday, because most of the state’s cities are located on the Pacific coast.
- university graduates have the right to obtain a work permit in the United States
- schoolchildren and students have great opportunities for leisure, an active lifestyle
- popular natural objects are located here: parks, volcanoes, lakes, Death Valley and others secondary school curriculum includes subjects to choose from
- Diplomas and certificates are recognized all over the world
- Children communicate with native English speakers every day
- School classes are formed taking into account the mental abilities and talents of children.
What cities in California do Russians and foreigners study in, leisure
0012 Malibu
Berkeley and Stanford are prestigious and well-known centers of science – the cities are home to such elite universities as the University of California at Berkeley and Stanford University.
A varied excursion program is available for schoolchildren and students in California, they will have the opportunity to such popular places as:
- Golden Gate Bridge
- Hollywood Walk of Fame
- Alcatraz Island
- Death Valley
- Silicon Valley
- Universal Studios
- Beverly Hills
- Santa Barbara and others.
United States Multilevel National Education System
Despite the fact that each state has a Department of Education that develops the curriculum, the general education system consists of the following stages:
- there are no kindergartens: children spend time in private children’s centers under the supervision of educators. There is no strict curriculum – at this stage, attention is paid to the peculiarities of education, and all training is carried out in the game
- elementary grades 1 to 5 – 6 years of age education in the United States is compulsory: foreign children must pass the California English Language Development Test (CELDT) for English language proficiency in order to enter school. At this stage, children are introduced to the basic principles of education USA
- middle grades 6 to 8 – children study basic subjects (the curriculum determines each state individually). The cost differs depending on the status of the school and its location – for example, the price for teaching children from 11 to 16 years old at Southwestern Academy (San Marino) will be $ 48,850 / year
- High School 9th to 12th – students are given freedom to choose subjects to study, and yet there is a mandatory list of subjects for obtaining a High School Diploma + in addition to choosing subjects, students have the opportunity to choose the intensity of classes. Foreigners and Russians can take a high school course at the prestigious Malibu Olympic High School – the cost is $ 39,390 / year – foreign boarders live in host families who are carefully selected to participate in the program
- Graduation from high school is not limited to obtaining a High School Diploma: students have the opportunity to study under the Advanced Placement program, for example, at the boarding school Webb Schools. Schoolchildren study selected subjects at an advanced level for two years – this is an advantage when entering a university.
Most American children receive their secondary education in public schools, and only 10-20% in private schools. Public schools are free – thus, the more subjects a student studies in the school curriculum, the less he will have to pay for the program in college. Foreign students can attend intensive English as a Foreign Language (ESL) support courses if their level of language proficiency is not sufficient to understand the foreign program.
Pre-University Programs for Russians and Foreigners in California
Preparatory courses increase the readiness of children for studying in institutions of higher education: for foreign and Russian students, these programs may be a compulsory stage of study, as the education systems of Russia and America are different. Children improve the level of academic knowledge and English, adapt to life in California, combine leisure with study. Examples of pre-university programs:
- University Pathway Program is implemented on the basis of the university or in training centers, after graduation there is the possibility of transferring immediately to the 2nd year or 2nd semester of the 1st year of the undergraduate program. To enter the University Pathway Program, you must provide a certificate of secondary education (Russian students can enter after grade 11)
- International Year One is one of the ways foreign students can enter an American university. There are more than 300 colleges and universities in California, many of which support this multi-track program with a 2-year curriculum
- Undergraduate Preparation Program – a pre-university program from 1 to 6 semesters, the duration of which depends on the level of preparation of a student with any level of knowledge of the English language. Students continue their education at the universities where they enter after the end of the program.
List of California’s Top Pre-University Study Centers

Work for students in America, obtaining a visa
For the duration of study, the student receives an M-1 or F-1 visa: the second is more common and allows you to work during study 20 hours / week (excluding vacation time) unlike M -one. During the first year of study, the F-1 visa does not allow a participant in an academic program to work outside the university, but after graduation, a graduate can apply for a work permit for 12 months (graduates of some specialties – science, engineering, mathematics – for 24 months) .
How can I cover the cost of studying at an American university?
There are several ways to get college funding:
- research grant
- tuition grant
- Fulbright Scholarship
- university work.
Everyone has a chance and it should be used! The funds received are able to cover both part of the costs and the full cost of travel (academic program, accommodation, flights, etc. ).

MONTEREY SCHOOL OF TRANSLATION
(California, USA)
The Graduate School of Translation & Interpretation of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, located in Monterey, California, USA (The Graduate School of Translation & Interpretation; The Monterey Institute of International Studies was established in 1970 and has since been ranked among the top five universities in the world producing top-level interpreters and translators. It is the only school in the US to offer a master’s degree in translation. School graduates work in the UN, the European Parliament, the World Bank and other international organizations, in international corporations such as Google, CISCO Systems, Hewlett-Packard, TNK-BP, Oracle, Sun Microsystems”, etc., government agencies and research institutes in different countries, translate at major conferences around the world. They also provide translation support for Russian-American space projects, the voices of our graduates are well known to cosmonauts and astronauts working on the International Space Station.
Over 60% of students at the Monterey School of Translation are international; here they acquire professional skills, study the principles of intercultural communication, get acquainted with the translation market. Particular attention is paid in the process of teaching the ethical standards of the profession. The presence of students with different native languages, of course, enriches both cultural exchange and the learning process, makes independent studies in simultaneous translation laboratories more productive. During the academic year, about 200 students study at all departments of the school at the same time.
A staff of active and experienced translators and interpreters work with students, who not only act as teachers, but also advise students on future work. Teachers from all departments, or programs as we call them, are in constant contact with potential employers
such as the United Nations, NASA, the European Parliament, the US Department of State, and so on. Representative international conferences are constantly held at the school, at which there is a productive exchange of experience, new trends in the profession, and the most productive methods of teaching translation are discussed. All conferences involve active participation of first and second year students. Classes are held in an atmosphere close to real conditions using professional equipment. A wide range of subjects and language combinations are offered.
The Monterey Institute Graduate School of Translation offers programs in all six UN official languages (English, Russian, French, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic (since 2008/09 academic year), as well as German, Japanese and Korean. Pilot language in all departments school is English, subject to passing the entrance exams, there is also the possibility of training in conference interpreting using three working languages (native and two foreign languages)
Training lasts 2 years, and for translators who want to improve their skills, there is the possibility of entering directly into the second year and obtaining a degree in one year. The prerequisites for admission are a bachelor’s degree and a high level of foreign language proficiency (English for foreign students).
The following programs are offered in each language combination:
– Master of Translation – classes in translation and sight translation (special attention is paid to this type of translation at school) are conducted on thematic aspects. So, for example, in the second semester, the emphasis is on economic topics, in the third – on scientific and technical translation, in the fourth – on complex humanitarian topics: political science, philosophy, religion, etc. The first semester is devoted to introductory courses. Teaching is conducted by teachers in their native language, and translation in each language combination is carried out by a native speaker. During all semesters, a course is taught on software used in translation. The result of the work is the student’s thesis – a translation into the native language of a text of at least 20,000 words, which must be accompanied by an analysis of the work done, of at least 2,000 words and a detailed glossary.
– Master of Conference Translation – the thematic principle is repeated, but with intensive classes in consecutive and simultaneous translation in both directions and even in three if the student has two foreign languages. The
recording system and other technical methods of both consecutive and simultaneous translation are studied in detail, the teaching of which is carried out in laboratories equipped with modern equipment. At the end of the second year of study, students pass professional exams in all types of translation and in all areas studied by the commission, which includes representatives of the UN, the US State Department, etc.
– Master of Interpretation and Translation – the student attends classes in translation and consecutive translation, as well as classes in simultaneous translation into their native language. At the end of the training, professional exams are taken.
– Master of Translation and Localization Management – a new degree that has existed for only 5 years. Its appearance was caused by the needs of the translation market. Students are engaged in translation into their native language, as well as a number of disciplines that are designed to make him an expert in translating websites and other materials on the Internet. Here, special emphasis is placed on the study of specific computer programs, as well as the principles of doing business, marketing, etc. The student’s thesis is a translation of an existing website into their native language with a culturally appropriate amount of at least 15,000 words and with comments, the nature of which is negotiated with the teacher.
In addition to all the listed disciplines, students are offered a choice of optional subjects, including those at other faculties of the institute.
The Monterey School of Translation thus not only offers a proven system of academic and professional education, but is constantly on the move, responding to the political and economic changes taking place in the world.
