Cinderella Premier League – Did you know that – Blogs

In the English football pyramid after the top – the Premier League, stands the Football League of England. This FL includes 72 clubs, which are divided into three divisions: Championship (Football League Championship, Football League One and Football League Two.

Clubs outside the FL are usually called out-of-league or amateur clubs. One can argue about the latter, because both professional and non-professional clubs play in the Football Conference (which is below the FL).

Not every famous player from English clubs spent his youth in the academy of a famous team. There were also those who, with sweat and blood, made their way from the very bottom.

Jamie Vardy

Loading…

Jamie Vardy saw his first pro team in 2007 when he wore a Stockbridge Park Steels jersey. Prior to his move to Leicester in 2012, Vardy had played for clubs such as Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town.

In their first season in the Premier League, Leicester came close to being knocked out with a bang, but thanks to Leonardo Ulloa’s excellent form, the Foxes managed to cling to the elite division. If it wasn’t for that, we wouldn’t have seen Vardy’s enchanting performance in the Leicester-Manchester United match, which ended in a crazy 5-3 score.

Now he has scored 14 goals, received a call-up to the England squad and set a Premier League record. And there was a time very recently when he got up at 7 in the morning to get to work, and then to training, receiving 30 pounds a week.

Steve Finnan

Rejected by Wimbledon at the age of 16, Steve joined the out-of-league team Welling United in 1993. After playing two seasons for this club, Steve then turned professional, signing a contract with Birmingham City. He later moved to Notts County before moving at 1997 to get a job at Fulham.

After spending five seasons with the Cottagers, Steve not only really helped Fulham to qualify for the Premier League, but also established himself in the England team. In the summer of 2003, Liverpool intercepted Finnan.

This deal is considered one of Liverpool’s best signings in the defensive ranks. Of a total of 114 games played by Liverpool in the Premier League in three seasons from 2004/05 to 2006/07, Steve missed only 15 matches. He has such trophies as the Intertoto Cup with Fulham, the Champions League Cup and the FA Cup with Liverpool. But there was a time when he seriously considered joining the family construction business, becoming a bricklayer.

Joe Hart

Before joining Manchester City, Hart went through a good survival school in Shrewsbury Town, the city team in which he was born. Hart signed his first professional contract in Shrewsbury in 2003. It was at the end of that season that Shrewsbury managed to reach the 2nd League. This league was already too small for Hart.

After a few games for the Citizens, City loaned out a capable goalkeeper, rightly so in the sense that young but rarely playing goalkeepers always need to get practice, even at clubs in the lower divisions. Trenme Rovers and Blackpool became staging posts for Hart. They started talking seriously about Joe Hart in 2009the year he was sent on loan to Birmingham. It was with Hart that Alex McLeish’s team had a record twelve-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, and the goalkeeper himself deserved the most flattering words at the end of the season.

In 2010/11 he was awarded the Premier League Golden Glove, won the FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League with the team. Now he has two titles of the English championship, the Cup and the Super Cup of England.

Forest Ferdinand

Until 1987, Les Ferdinand played for out-of-league teams such as Hayes and Southall. And at the age of 20 he received an invitation to Queens Park Rangers, who laid out as much as 30 thousand pounds for him. For five years, Ferdinand listened to criticism from all sides, and in 1992 he finally burst into goals. Scored 60 goals in three seasons.

His move to Newcastle had a positive effect on the Tyneside team, which finished second in the Premier League for two years in a row, and Les himself scored 41 goals in 68 matches.

But the transition to Tottenham was a real disaster. Six seasons for the Spurs were spent mostly in the infirmary. A second wind seemed to come to Ferdinand in the 2003/04 season, when he managed to score 12 goals in 29 matches for Leicester, but that was his swan song.

Yannick Bolasi

Bolasi’s football career began in 2006 with non-league team Hillingdon Borough, and in 2008 he managed to defect to Plymouth Argyle. Yannick spent much of his Plymouth spell on loan at clubs such as Rushden & Diamonds and Barnet.

Loading…

Having played enough outside the Football League system, in 2012 Bolazi managed to attract the attention of scouts from Crystal Palace, who were immediately taken to the Championship. It was at Selhurst Park that Bolazi gained his real fame as a winger.

Having risen with the team in the Premier League in 2013, Yannick first helped the club with his four assists, and in the following season 2014/15 he brought his goal efficiency to double figures (four goals and six assists).

And this season has already repeated the success of last year, scoring 4 goals already in 13 games.

Charlie Austin

A graduate of Reading Football School, Austin played the first four years of his career with clubs outside the Football League (Kintbury Rangers, Hungford Town, Thatcham Town and Poole Town). And then, having come to the Football League (first as part of Swindon), so far he managed to score 107 goals in 202 games. During this time, he saw both the 2nd League and the 1st League, and now he plays in the Championship in the form of QPR.

At the height of his fame, Austin was the fourth top scorer in the Premier League behind Aguero, Kane and Costa. And his 18 goals were more than those of Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud. Unfortunately, the team could not support the initiative of their striker and left the Premier League.

Austin currently has 7 goals and one assist in 13 games.

Chris Smalling

Loading. ..

For the fact that Smalling is now playing at such a high level as Manchester United, we must first of all thank Fulham. It was the summer residents who managed to find a promising defender in the lower divisions and intercept from Middlesbrough, who signed him, in 2008. A decent performance for Fulham in two seasons was the main reason for the transition in 2010 to the Manchester camp.

In the beginning, Smalling hardly got into the rhythm of the team, hopelessly losing the competition to such defensive players as Nemanja Vidić and Rio Ferdinand. But the injuries of these players just did provide him, Evans and Jones a great chance to express themselves. But, unfortunately, Smalling did not succeed.

New coach Louis van Gaal, who came to the team, did not like Smalling at first. In the Manchester derby in November 2014, Smalling was sent off, and in the majority, the “citizens”, scoring one goal, won. There would be no happiness, but misfortune helped. It was after this incident that Smalling gained confidence and began to give all his best at 200%. There is definitely no better defender than Chris Smalling in the mind of the Dutch coach right now.

Stuart Pierce

Loading…

Stuart Pearce didn’t pass the QPR trial and went to play in the amateur Wealdstone, while working as an electrician. Stewart spent five years with the amateur team, during which time he learned everything about life and football the old-fashioned way. Amateur league with all the charms!

It was there, in the minor leagues, that Pierce’s character was forged. Who never lost his optimism during the moves of his beloved Nottingham Forest between the First and Second Divisions, and then at the start of 90-x between the Premier League and the Championship. Thanks to his goal, Forest earned a ticket to the Premier League, and then he made an unsustainable contribution to winning 3rd place there (the club has still not achieved the best success) and contributed to getting into the quarter-final stage of the 1996 UEFA Cup.

After Forest, Pearce played for Newcastle, West Ham and Man City and finished career in 2002 with 78 caps for England.

Kevin Phillips

The Southampton Football School graduate began his amateur league career playing three years with Baldock Town at age 19.91 to 1994 Kevin scored a lot despite playing as a defender, so it is not surprising that he soon turned into a striker. On December 19, 1994, Phillips signed his first professional contract. The first major team of his career was Watford, who paid £10,000 for the green but darn promising young striker. He spent most of the 90s in the Championship, playing for Watford and Sunderland. It was with the Black Cats that he managed to see the Premier League. Thanks to teammate Niall Quinn, Kevin manages to score 30 goals in season 1999/00 and win the European Golden Boot (he is so far the only Englishman with such an award).

Loading…

Ashley Williams

In 2000, West Brom saw no prospects in 16-year-old Wolverhamton native Ashley Williams. Ashley did not grieve for long and agreed to play in the amateur Hednesford Town team, and then, two seasons later, he moved to Stockport County, which then played in League 1. He not only became the best central defender of Stockport, but also its captain, and took the first steps in the Wales national team.

A short-term loan at Swansea ended in a firm contract and Williams took the Swans to the Premier League in 2011. Thanks to his defensive skills, Swansea have since completed 45 games without conceding a goal. In 2013, he received the English League Cup trophy as a souvenir. But the most important test is ahead!

Ashley Williams will lead her national team to Euro 2016 next year.
