2023 Graduation Schedule

Important information for the Class of 2023 Commencement Exercises taking place May 16-19.

No tickets are required for entry and parking is free in the Convention Center Garage and other free parking options are also available.

Balloons, poster boards and noise devices will not be allowed inside the Convention Center. Professional cameras, recording devices, laptops, tablets and selfie sticks are also prohibited. No bags larger than 6″ x 9″ will be allowed inside the venue.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early for wand and bag checks that will be conducted as part of the security measures in place for the ceremonies.

2023 Caddo High School Credit Recovery Summer School

Caddo students have the opportunity to earn a high school credit this summer for the purpose of “catching up” to graduate on time.   Courses will be taught on campus (see below for locations) through our Edgenuity online platform and supported at the school level with a facilitator.   Due to the structure of the summer program offered this summer, only Caddo students will be allowed to register.  Students will be allowed to register for one .5 credit course each session for no cost.  The school principal will give final approval for the student to take the course.

First Session to earn .5 credit:

2023 Caddo Summer Remediation and Retesting

Caddo students have the opportunity to register for the high school summer remediation and retesting opportunities or to waive the opportunity to participate in summer remediation and retesting. Summer remediation for high school testing will occur from June 12-June 23, 2023 from 9:00 – 3:00 with face to face instruction at designated locations (See below). The LEAP 2025 retest will be offered June 26-30, 2023 at the same designated locations below. Students will participate in remediation for the subject area(s) in which they will retest.

Graduation Requirements

During the first two years of high school, students should focus on building on the knowledge and skills they gained in previous grades. Every 9th and 10th grade student will take core academic classes to work towards a diploma. Following the student’s 10th grade year, a student may choose to work toward a Jump Start TOPS Tech Pathway or pursue the TOPS University Pathway. Students may choose both pathways. Decisions are made with counseling and guidance, based on the student’s interests, capabilities, and ambitions.

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a graduation requirement.

2023/2024 Louisiana Best Medical School List

Medical schools in Louisiana are very competitive, just like any other school in America. As a result, the admissions committee has set a high acceptance rate for all students wishing to enter the school. The duration of the course of study at medical schools in Louisiana is four years.

After medical students complete their medical courses, they will be sent on medical internships to gain experience that will help them in real life situations. It is best to do this at a medical center or hospitals that have been approved. Before you can enroll in this school, you must pass both written and practical exams.

A medical school was established in 1932 to help students realize bring their medical dreams to life. The MD program is divided into four years. The first two years include core coursework in areas such as anatomy and the natural sciences. Students must pass the first phase of the USMLE exam. The third year is a mandatory clerk, and the final year includes a combination of an elected and a mandatory clerk.

Before students graduate, they must pass the second phase of the USMLE. The school hosts various medical activities such as diagnostics, seminars, lectures, research, etc. In addition to students holding an MD degree, the university has dual programs – OMS/MD and MD/Ph.D. As for medical institutions, they have been equipped with them to facilitate access to innovation and research.

They have different schools for students such as School of Public Health, School of Nursing and School of Dentistry. As one of Louisiana’s medical schools, they prioritize their citizens. In 2017, the cumulative GPA of enrolled students was 3.51 and the average MCAT score was 508.

Before submitting any application for admission, you must follow the necessary guidelines offered by the medical school. However, the school has a 32-hour policy for students to be eligible for 32 or more hours of coursework after completing a bachelor’s degree, especially for students whose GPA is not competitive.

  1. Louisiana State University Shreveport Health Sciences Center:

Louisiana State University of Health Sciences was founded in 1965 to admit medical students. The school accepts about 800 students annually. They have other dual degree programs for students to become professionals in two different fields such as MD and PhD. For dental students, there are OMS and MD programs that suit their field. Also, MD/Ph.D. in areas such as medicine and engineering.

They partner with four student centers for the ultimate in medical training, such as Shriners Children’s Hospital, Overton Brooks Veterans Affairs Medical Center, University Health and Willis Knighton. In addition to dual degree programs, they have Masters and PhD programs such as Masters in Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistants, Communication Disorders, and Public Health.

In addition, they have doctoral programs such as microbiology and immunology, cell biology and anatomy, biochemistry and molecular biology, pharmacology, molecular and cellular physiology, toxicology and neurology. Because it is a public or state-sponsored university, Louisiana residents are given preference for admission. When it comes to accepting international students, they only accept 10% of the total population.

The application process is done through the AMCAS platform and prospective students are required to complete the MCAT, have pre-medical experience, receive letters of recommendation and more. The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport accepts transfer students from other schools, but they must complete the first two years of their medical programs.

  1. Tulane University School of Medicine:

The university was founded in 1834 and is located in New Orleans. It is one of Louisiana’s leading medical schools and is the 15th oldest institution in the United States. They have dual degree programs like other Louisiana medical schools which include MD and MPH, MD and MBA, MD and Ph.D. program.

Also, they have accelerated medical program options for students to complete the course in different years – (MD/MPH) for four years, MD/MBA for five years, TAP-TP program for four years. These different programs combine an MD degree with a bachelor’s degree. In addition, there is a rural medicine program that offers students the opportunity to enroll in other universities outside of the US.

This is one of Louisiana’s medical schools with over 30 centers for teaching, research, and patient care. The school specialized in different areas such as mental health, cooking, hemophilia, cancer and many others. Every year the number of applicants wishing to enter the school increases. For example, in 2012, the total number of applications for admission to the school was 12,102 applicants, but 191 students were accepted.

Students are expected to go through the same application process by completing the basic admission requirements by submitting an online application, letters of recommendation, work experience and other documents using the AMCAS platform. You will be surprised that 600 students are surveyed every year. There is a test that students are encouraged to take, known as the CASPer test, to test their professional and personal skills.

Medical schools in Louisiana are ready to accept international students as well as local students, provided they are willing to go through the application process. However, they do not accept transfer students to any of these medical schools. When you apply for admission to these schools, you must be prepared to maintain an open mind that will help you become a doctor in the making.
