* * * * * * * * * BOD soul and without even getting dressed, Cameron Roberts headed through the carpeted room to the bar. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked Washington at night. Such a spectacle was breathtaking. After pouring some whiskey into a heavy crystal glass, she leaned against a bar located along one of the walls of the room and began to look at the city lights mixed with night stars. There was a time when Cam remained indifferent to this piercing beauty. Loss time. Then she was convinced that nothing could touch her soul again. How wrong she was.
Pulling off a gray silk dressing gown from the back of a chair, she threw it over herself and went to the phone. Dialing a number from memory, she waited for the voice she wanted to hear all day to answer her:
– Hello.
Cameron smiled:
– How do you like San Francisco?
A sharp sigh followed, quickly replaced by hoarse laughter:
– Can it be bad here? It is a city of handsome men and charming women. It’s August and the sun is shining more often than it’s raining.
– Sounds good.
– Yes. Blair Powell stared out the window as she sat on the edge of the bed in the guest room, which was located in a multi-level home tucked away in an alcove on Russian Hill in San Francisco. The setting sun was reflected on the surface of the water in San Francisco Bay through the trees and rooftops. It was beautiful, and when she continued, her voice was hoarse with new bright emotions. – Nearly.
– Almost? Cameron sipped her whiskey, imagining deep blue eyes and wild golden curls. Arms around her hips, she sat on a leather sofa and looked out into the night.
– Mmm… I can’t find an invitation to an art gallery exhibition.
– There is nothing I can do to help you. Cameron sighed. – Sorry.
– Really? Blair asked pointedly, trying to hide her disappointment. They didn’t make definite plans, but she hoped. – How was your day?
– Usual bureaucratic games: too many opinions, too many bosses, too many people concerned about their political careers. Cameron finished her whiskey and carefully placed the glass on the stone stand on the table. With some effort to sound nonchalant, she added:
– As I said, nothing out of the ordinary happens on Capitol Hill.
– Will you probably stay there for a few more days?
– I think so. Are you all right?
“It’s fine,” Blair assured her hastily.
– Who are the agents in the house? “Although she managed to work out in detail all the details of Blair’s current trip between her meetings, being away from the team was extremely inconvenient.
– Stark is in the room across from the living room, Davis is downstairs playing cards with Marcia and an extraordinarily handsome man with a stunning Italian accent.
– This must be Giancarlo. Cameron laughed as she pictured her mother entertaining a houseful of artists, foreign visitors, and Secret Service agents. – Well, it seems to me that everything is under control.
– Mac knows what he’s doing, Cameron. You don’t need to worry.
“I’m not worried about that,” Cameron replied, glad that Blair didn’t see her expression. The president’s daughter was able to read the truth from him, while everyone else could only see a blank, impassive mask.
– Your voice is tired.
“It’s all right,” Cameron answered automatically. In truth, she was still suffering from a severe headache from the concussion from the explosion two days earlier, and had hardly slept since leaving Blair’s bed the day before. She had to spend all day explaining why two federal agents under her direction ended up in the intensive care unit. All this obviously did not benefit her well-being.
* * *
Deputy Director of the Secret Service Stuart Carlyle closed the door and looked blankly at the President’s daughter’s head of security:
– Are you all right?
– Bruises and bruises. Nothing serious. Cameron sat down on a chair to the right of the chairman’s chair at the head of the table. She knew very well that this place at the upcoming briefing would be taken by Carlisle, her immediate superior. So far, there was no one else in the room except them, but all this will change in fifteen minutes. Representatives from the FBI, the National Security Agency, and even the president’s personal security adviser will arrive shortly to discuss the assassination attempt on the president’s daughter.
– Roberts, if you are unable to attend the briefing due to poor health, tell me now.
– All right, sir. – He should not have known that periodically her eyes are doubled and she experiences constant nausea and dizziness.
Sighing, he went to the front of the table and sat down in the presiding seat.
– Okay, tell me briefly how the hell could this even happen, where did you screw up?
Cameron rubbed the bridge of her nose and shrugged her shoulders to release her tension.
– How could this happen? The guy was a professional: he knew how to predict our actions. He made his way past us. He was a little ahead of us all the time. On top of that, the interdepartmental exchange of information failed. However, there is nothing unusual here. His identity should have been established months ago before he got that close. We were lucky to get by with small losses, things could have been much worse.
“I can’t write that in a report to the director of the Secret Service,” Carlisle snapped.
– You asked me what happened. What happened was that we were kicked in the ass.
Carlisle stared at the ceiling.
– Give me an assessment of the work of your team.
– High marks to everyone. Cameron sat upright, her gaze suddenly piercing and intense. “The agents under my command have not made any mistakes. If someone needs a switchman, then let me be it.
– Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
* * *
– Cameron? Blair repeated. – Are you there?
Cam jumped:
– What? Yes. I’m sorry.
– What are you hiding from me? Have you got any problems? Blair stood up, reaching for her suitcase from under the bed. Cameron is definitely in some kind of trouble. – I can fly to Washington on a night flight …
– No. Rising abruptly from her seat, Cameron staggered, feeling dizzy, and cursed under her breath. She had to sit down before she could continue. – First of all, I shouldn’t discuss all this with you.
– Just don’t start quoting minutes to me, Roberts. Blair dropped the suitcase. Her heart sank as she heard the familiar note of alienation slip through Cameron’s voice. Again. And this is after everything they both had to go through. God, why doesn’t she want to let me help?
“Second,” Cameron continued with a faint smile, imagining the fire in Blair’s eyes, “this is not a situation you can get involved in.” You must stay out of it…
– Excuse me? Outside what? life? Us? – The room suddenly became cold, and the sunset no longer seemed so beautiful. – I thought we left it in the past.
– You don’t need to know anything about your security procedures.
– Oh my God, Cameron. How can you say that after everything that happened? Blair quickly went to the window, trying to imagine Cameron in the apartment. Her voice was not enough for her. I have never even been to her house. She knows everything about me, and I know almost nothing about her.
Trailers of the week: “Suicide Squad” and Daniel Radcliffe in a film about neo-Nazis – KLOOP.KG
This week not only another trailer for the upcoming “Suicide Squad” was released, but also the first teasers of other films that will soon start at the box office. For example, the first shots of a film about neo-Nazis starring Daniel Radcliffe, a documentary by Terrence Malick and a biopic with Tom Hanks.
Daniel Radcliffe in the first trailer for Absolute Power
British actor Daniel Radcliffe, whom everyone remembers from the role of Harry Potter, quite successfully continues his way from the role of a harmless boy wizard. Behind Radcliffe’s back is already a good performance in the film “Kill Your Loved Ones” about the beatniks Ginsberg and Carr and the role of an antagonist in the recent sequel “Illusions of Deception”.
Now he will play an American undercover agent who infiltrates a neo-Nazi group. The trailer looks cheerful, with a scheduled release date of September 16th.
Another trailer for The Suicide Squad
There is only one thing left before the release of perhaps the most anticipated premiere of this summer: The Suicide Squad with Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto (who is doing great as the Joker ) starts on August 4th. In anticipation of the start of the rental of a new blockbuster in the DC Comics universe – a trailer, already without Bohemian Rhapsody, but with a greater emphasis on the plot. Enjoy.
Non-children’s Batman: The Killing Joke
This summer, the world will see the Joker not only in the upcoming blockbuster with Smith and Leto, but also in a new animated movie based on the Batman comics. To call it a harmless cartoon, however, the language will not turn: at the box office it received an 18+ rating. From the noteworthy, authoritative near-cultural publications pay quite a lot of attention to the film (which inspires confidence), and Mark Hamill himself voices the Joker.
Premiere – 26 July.
Picturesque documentary “Time Travel”
Terrence Malick is a Harvard graduate, a great American filmmaker, snob and philosopher, winner of the Palme d’Or and the Golden Lion, who is filming the documentary “Time Travel” especially for IMAX cinemas.
The picture will tell about the history of the universe, but you should not expect the straightforwardness of Discovery documentaries from it: in one of his previous films, The Tree of Life, Malik already addressed this topic and eventually gave out a half-hour excerpt with amazing (and expensive) computer graphics to music Bedrich Smetana. The beginning of the rental is scheduled for October 6 this year.
Table 19 comedy from the creators of The Office
Freaks and informals are actively legitimized in American comedy series, starting with the author’s Girls and ending, of course, with the cult Big Bang Theory. In the cinema, this trend is less visible, but the upcoming “Table 19” from the creators of the series “Office” is doing just that.
The plot is approximately the following – the former best man at the wedding is planted at the table of losers (the selection of actors behind him is surprisingly revealing: there is lobbyboy Tony Revolori from the Grand Budapest Hotel, and Lisa Kudrow from Friends), and then a movie happens. The premiere is scheduled for January next year.
Tom Hanks in Clint Eastwood’s Miracle on the Hudson
Tom Hanks, gray-haired and mustachioed, starred in Clint Eastwood’s new film – the best dream-team, it seems, cannot be imagined.
