Exceptional Achievers Early Childhood “Little Mustangs”
School Town of Munster offers a continuum of services for children ages 3 to 5 who are eligible under Indiana’s special education rules. This program is available to Munster residents ONLY!
STM Early Childhood Assessment Team offers a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation in a preschool classroom setting. The Early Childhood Speech and Language Pathologists offer a “speech only” evaluation for those families that are only concerned with their child’s speech development.
Special Education services are provided in a variety of settings appropriate to meet the needs of each child. Developmental preschool classrooms and “speech-only” sessions are examples. Currently, STM has Early Childhood classrooms at Frank Hammond Elementary School that host our youngest learners in developmentally appropriate classrooms.
Evaluation
What if I think my child has special needs?
Children ages 0 to 3 years:
Your child may be eligible for early intervention through Northwest Indiana First Steps. To make a referral, call (219) 662-7790 or visit their website.
Children ages 3 to 5 years:
Call the School Town of Munster Early Childhood Assessment Team at (219) 838-2060 ext. 6206 or email Claire Starcevich.
An Early Childhood Team member will speak to you regarding your concerns and schedule an appointment for your child to attend a screening. Screenings are brief sessions where the child works with a therapist (usually a speech-language pathologist) to get an overview of the child’s abilities in one or more areas of development.
Following the results of the screening, you will receive a written summary of the results and recommendations. Should an initial evaluation be recommended following the completion of the screening, the educational evaluation process will be initiated. The initial educational evaluation is conducted to determine if your child meets eligibility criteria set forth by the State of Indiana’s special education laws, for special education.
Some of the eligibility categories that are considered special education include but are not limited to:
- Speech Impairment
- Language Impairment
- Developmental Delay
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Other Health Impairment
Based on the results of the screening and the concerns you have regarding your child’s development, one or more areas of eligibility may be considered for your child’s educational evaluation.
Developmental Milestones
Please visit the CDC Website for more information regarding developmental milestones.
Classrooms
We recognize each child is a unique person with an individual pattern and timing of growth along with individual personality, learning style and family background. Assessment of the student’s strengths and needs is necessary to determine instructional needs.
Young children learn most effectively through a concrete, play-oriented approach. Their development and learning occur throughout daily activities and routines. The program provides a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the age span of the children being served and is implemented with attention to the different needs, interests and developmental levels of each child. An integrated approach is used to encourage the children’s physical, emotional, social, communicative and cognitive development. Emphasis is placed on providing materials and activities that are concrete, relevant to the children, and encourage self-directed play and active exploration.
ISPROUT Early Learning Assessment Tool
Indiana Student Performance Readiness and Observation of Understanding Tool (ISPROUT) is utilized to measure skills in children from infancy to kindergarten. ISPROUT is aligned to the Indiana Early Learning Foundations.
ISPROUT will be utilized for Indiana students receiving services as part of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) to meet the reporting needs of the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). The web or app based instrument is utilized by teachers to rate students based on their ongoing observations of children engaged in typical daily routines and activities.

We have excellent academics and resources, but poor school spirit with strict rules and no leniency. This school prepares us for college academically but does not require classes that teach us how to be an adult. Important life lessons such as money management, adult responsibilities, etc…although they do make these classes available I personally believe they should be required. But we all pay a price, low school spirit refrains from horseplay and misbehavior and results in high safety as well as a push to focus on our education.
School Town of Munster has provided the ultimate educational experience. I have attended the School Town of Munster since kindergarten and since day one I have been pushed to better my academics and to be an outstanding citizen. School Town of Munster has provided me opportunities that I may not have otherwise been afforded if I went to a different school system. The true meaning of community has been instilled in me and has made me a better person.

Is your teenager spinning out of control? Looking for a therapeutic boarding school near Munster, Indiana?
There is nothing worse than living with a teen spinning out of control, and no worse feeling than the hopelessness parents experience in the process. It is hard to know what to do and how to react when your boy or girl daily reaches new lows in disobedience, dishonesty, and disrespect, and chooses the wrong path in life.
We understand, because we went through it with our boy. Raised in a Christian home and mostly home-schooled until high school, we suddenly found that we didn’t know him. He had changed seemingly overnight. His marks in school started falling and his interest in sports and old friends shifted to a new group of friends — the kind parents are wary of — the kind of kids that got kicked out of a public school, so the local private school took them in.
Little did we know, our son was already heavy into smoking marijuana, sniffing solvents, drinking alcohol and just about everything else his new peer group dared him to do. The downward spiral was dramatic — all the way down to holes-in-the-walls rages, running away for days at a time, and finally threatening suicide. After months in counseling, the therapist proclaimed that there was nothing more he could do. A local residential program and school was selected.
Putting our son in a therapeutic boarding school was the hardest thing we’ve ever done as parents. . Worse yet, that program didn’t work out, so we were out a lot of money and still had no solution. We learned from this traumatic experience that therapeutic programs can be quite different and need to be selected based on their strengths and avoided if they have serious weaknesses. It’s important to know what those strengths and weaknesses are.
Some therapeutic boarding schools are great, and others are not so great. Some target one set of issues; others are experts on other issues. But when you call them, they want to fill their beds, so they’ll often present themselves as “experts” in all areas having to do with behavior. But that’s usually not so. Some kids are just going through a rebellious stage, while others are dealing with very serious issues that may not be known to their parents. So choosing a “behavioral modification” program when a “therapeutic” program is what’s needed can be a disaster. It can also be a big waste of money.
No one was offering to help us find the right school for our boy. We made a mistake to begin with, and that cost us dearly, but after some time of research we found a good program that was able to help our son. Today, our family and even our son are thankful for that program.
The program we finally enrolled him in literally saved his life and got him off the downward spiral.
So, is your family experiencing the same storms of a teenager who is out of control? Are you walking on similar pins and needles around your teen? Does it sometimes seem like he or she has suddenly been taken over by aliens (well, not literally)?
Let us assist you in finding the best program whether or not it is near Munster, Indiana. We’ve made it our life goal to know all we can about every school, so we can help parents (without cost) find the best possible choice for their troubled teen. We want to help you avoid the same mistake we did.
Now, every day we hear from scores of frustrated parents in towns like Munster, Indiana, who share how their once normal and happy child has become dangerously out of control — just like our son was. They talk about how it has disrupted their home and how they fear for their child’s future and very life. “My child is no longer who she used to be,” is a typical cry from these parents.
If your son or daughter is out of control, he or she needs you to intervene. That’s why you’ve landed on this site, so allow us to be the help you need to help you find just the right program, hopefully near Munster, Indiana. The downward spiral your teen is on can have tremendous destructive potential with lifelong consequences, or even bring a young life to a quick end. Don’t wait. Act today based on what you know is true — your faith, your own beliefs, and what you know is best for your teen.
Give us the opportunity to help you find a Christian boarding school closest to Munster, Indiana that will provide your teen with the help and mentoring he or she needs, and within your budget. We’ve visited most of these programs and we know the staff there. We know what they are good at, and what they are not so good at. We poll parents who have placed their teen in these programs, so we know how well they have done to help the teen.
Don’t put your child in a boarding school nearby Munster merely out of convenience (like we did). Rather, find the program that is most likely to help your teen, even if it is outside of your state. Give us the chance to tell you about a few of them. Fill in the online form now to begin that process. There is NO CHARGE for this service.

‘Blue flu’ hits Munster school after national honor
Members of Eads Leads, a leadership group at Eads Elementary in Munster, hold signs at an assembly Monday announcing that the school has been designated a National Blue Ribbon School.

MUNSTER — Students and staff at James B. Eads Elementary had a real case of the blues Monday, but with good reason. The Eads community has been designated one of the nation’s best schools.
Eads, along with Central and St. Paul elementaries in Valparaiso, has earned the National Blue Ribbon School designation by the U.S. Department of Education. They are among 10 Hoosier schools and 297 nationwide cited.
“We waited anxiously for months for this news. This is a dream come true for teachers and staff,” said Linda Bevil, in her 14th year as Eads principal, who received that news Friday.
National Night Out Against Crime event at the Munster Community Pool Tuesday evening
Amidst a sea of confetti and blue streamers, the 503 Eads students in grades K-5 cheered the news, after which they had blue-covered doughnuts from the school’s PTO.
According to DOE, the Blue Ribbon Program celebrates school excellence, turn-around stories and closing the subgroup achievement gap.

Named a bridge builder, Eads was cited as an exemplary high-performing school. Qualifying schools must rank in the top 15% of all schools on state assessments in both reading and math.
Bevil said Eads students did very well in ILEARN, Indiana’s assessment test. District-wide, she added, the School Town of Munster’s ILEARN math scores finished in the top third in Indiana.
“This is amazing,” Bevil added. “We represent maybe 1% of all the schools in the U.S.”
Adding to the amazement, the principal said, is that Eads was judged during the pandemic. When other schools were closed, she said, Munster schools offered in-person instruction.
Superintendent Bret Heller addresses students and staff at Eads Elementary on Monday to congratulate the school for being designated a National Blue Ribbon School.

“Blue Ribbon is a big deal,” School Superintendent Bret Heller said. “The work the staff at Eads has done and continues to do to support all students is phenomenal.”
Eads is the second Munster Blue Ribbon School, following Frank Hammond Elementary, honored a decade ago.
When asked what makes her school special, Bevil replied, “It’s a family. From the parents to the staff to custodians to bus drivers, everybody does their best to meet students’ needs.”
Karen Tomko, a third grade teacher in her 19th year at Eads, commented, “The moment you walk into the building, you notice a sense of community and everybody helping, with a focus on kindness and respect.”
Tomko and fourth grade teacher Jenny Herold sponsor Eads Leads, a leadership program for students in grades 4 and 5 to work with younger students.

Eads Leads members participated in the assembly, holding placards with the words blue ribbon. The program also featured two original essays by students Carisma Hernandez and Sophia Garcia.
As an Eads Leads fifth grader, Garcia noted, “We are the role models, and what we share with younger kids they can use later in life.”
Bevil also cited the school’s supportive PTO. Stephanie Czapka, the mother of three Eads students, had served as PTO president for the past five years.
“All my kids have had a great experience here,” Czapka said. “It’s the people. They’re just sweet, kind, caring people.”

Driving Schools
Top Rated in Indiana
What is Driving-Schools.
com and how does it work?
We launched Driving-Schools.com in 2020 with a singular goal: to provide the most comprehensive list of driving schools in the United States. Driving-Schools.com isn’t just a website, it’s a platform that helps literally anyone find the perfect driving school that fits their specific needs. We also help driving schools showcase themselves and present their offers in the best possible way.
How complete is your list of U.S. driving schools?
We’re confident that our list of the 10,000+ known driving schools in the United States is the most complete resource available. Our staff also continuously works to update the list as schools open, close, or change ownership.
If we’ve missed a school, let us know and we’ll add it to the list. If you are a school owner, then you can register your school for free.
How much does a driver license cost?
The cost of an Indiana driver license varies based on your age. If you are between the ages of 17 and 85, you’ll need to pay $17.50 for a license. If you are 75 to 84 years old, you’ll need to pay $11. If you are applying for a license and are 85 years old or older, your license will cost $7. In addition to the licensing fee, you should be prepared for potential application fees, testing fees, processing fees, or some combination of these costs. Keep in mind that fees are subject to change, and the most effective way to stay up to date on current licensing costs is to reach out to your local DMV.
How hard is the drivers test?
Some may find it more challenging than others, but with the right amount of studying and practice, any driver should be able to pass the Indiana driving skills exam! During this test, a driver will be expected to safely operate a vehicle in traffic, follow signs and signals, safely communicate with other drivers, and generally follow the rules of the road. The more technical aspects of the Indiana driving skills exam include backing and parallel parking. Many find these technical elements of the driving test to be the most challenging, so applicants may consider extra practice on these tasks before taking the test.
How old to get drivers license?
In the state of Indiana, a driver may be a minimum of 21 years old to receive their full Driver’s License. If enrolled in an approved driver’s education course, a driver may be 15 years old to get a Learner’s Permit, and at least 16 years and 90 days old to get a Probationary License. If a driver has not participated in an approved driver’s education course, they can get a Learner’s Permit at the age of 16, and may get a Probationary License when they are 16 years and 270 days old. To work up to full driving privileges, minors are required to go through a gradual licensing process with several levels of driving practice.
How to prepare for driving test?
To best prepare for a driving test, a new driver in Indiana can do three things. First, each applicant should study the Indiana Driver’s Manual, which is full of important laws, essential driving instruction, and valuable safety tips. In addition to studying the manual, all new drivers under the age of 16 will need to complete a driver’s education course. Finally, a driver should practice supervised driving while holding a Learner’s Permit. To be sure they’re thoroughly prepared for the driving test, a driver should continue to practice supervised driving until they are completely comfortable behind the wheel, even if that takes a longer period of time than expected.
How to prepare for permit test?
When it’s time to prepare for your online practice quizzes, the first thing you should do is check out the Indiana Driver’s Manual. The manual holds all the information you’ll need to pass the test, including important laws and essential driving instruction. After reading through the manual, check out some online practice quizzes! There’s no better way to assess how prepared you are than by taking a test just like the one you’ll face at a BMV branch. In addition to studying on your own, it’s a good idea to take a driver’s education course from an approved driving school. Even if driver’s education isn’t required for your age group, learning from an instructor who knows the ins and outs of state driving laws is a great way to help cement them in your mind.
Do I have to pay a fee to find a driving school?
No! Searching for schools is always free. There are no hidden fees or memberships or anything like that. We created Driving-Schools.com to be a free service that helps people find the best schools, so they can get on the road as quickly and safely as possible.
How do I leave a review for a driving school?
We’d love to hear about your driving school experiences. To leave a review for one, simply search for the driving school on the home page. Click on the associated listing and then scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the review section.
Please be as descriptive as possible about your experience with the school, including its packages and instructors. You’ll be helping future drivers by giving them a first-hand insight on what to expect from a particular school.

This article is about the Irish province. For the German city, see Münster, Lower Saxony. For the German city, see Münster. For the city in the United States, see Munster, Indiana. For other uses, see Münster (disambiguation).
Munster (Irish: mumhain [ə ˈwuːnʲ] or Cuige Mumhan [ˌKuːɟə ˈmˠuːnˠ]) is one of the provinces of Ireland, in the south of Ireland, in the south of Ireland. In early Ireland, the Kingdom of Munster was one of the kingdoms of Gaelic Ireland, ruled by a “king of over-kings” (Irish: ri ruirech ). After the Norman invasion of Ireland, the ancient kingdoms were organized into counties for administrative and judicial purposes. In later centuries, local government legislation led to a further division of the historic districts.
Münster has no official functions for local authorities. For the purposes of ISO, a province is listed as one of the provincial subdivisions of a state (ISO 3166-2:IE) and has the code “IE-M”. Geographically, Münster covers a total area of 24,675 km 2 (9,527 sq mi) with a population of 1,280,020 with Cork being the most populous city. Other important urban centers in the province include Limerick and Waterford.

History
Main article: Kingdom of Munster
Rock of Cashel, Co. Tipperary, historical site of the Kings of Munster
At the beginning of the century AD, Munster was the domain of the Ivern peoples and the Clanna Dedad family line, led by Ĉu Roi and to whom the king of Conaire the Great also belonged. In the 5th century, Saint Patrick spent several years in the area and founded Christian churches and ordained priests. During the early medieval period, most of the territory was part of the Kingdom of Münster, ruled by the Eoganacht dynasty. Prior to this, the area was ruled by Dáirine and Corcu Loígde overlords. Later rulers from Eóganachta included Catal mac Finguine and Feidlimid mac Cremtanin. Notable regional kingdoms and lordships of early medieval Munster were Iarmuman (West Munster), Osraig (Ossori), Uí Liatháin, Uí Fidgenti, Eile, Múscraige, Ciarraige Luachra, Corcu Duibne, Corcu Baiscinn and Déisi Muman.
By the 9th century the Norse Vikings had joined the Gaels and founded cities such as Cork, Waterford and Limerick, mostly incorporated into the maritime empire by the Ivar dynasty, which periodically threatened Munster with conquest in the next century. . Around this time Ossory seceded from Münster. Eoghanachta dominated Munster until the 10th century, when there was a rise of the Dalcasian clan who had earlier annexed Thomond to Munster north of the River Shannon. Their leaders were the ancestors of the O’Brien dynasty and fathered Brian Boru, perhaps the most famous High King of Ireland, and some of whose descendants were also high kings.
By 1118, Munster had broken up into the kingdom of Thomond under the O’Briens, the kingdom of Desmond under the Maccarthy dynasty (Eóganachta), and the short-lived kingdom of Ormond under the O’Kennedys (another Dalcasian sept). The three crowns of the flag of Munster represent these three later kingdoms.
From the 14th century there was Norman influence, including the Houses of FitzGerald, de Clare and Butler, two of which carved earldoms within the Lordship of Ireland, the Earls of Desmond eventually became independent lords, while the Earls of Ormonde remained closer to England. . O’Brien of Thomond and Maccarthy of Desmond surrendered and returned sovereignty to the Tudors in 1543 and 1565, joining the Kingdom of Ireland. The spectacular Desmond Rebellions, led by the Fitzgeralds, soon followed.
By the middle of the 19th century, most of the region was badly affected by the Great Famine, especially in the west. The province was affected by the events of the Irish War of Independence in the early 20th century, and during the Irish Civil War there was a brief Republic of Munster.
Irish leaders Michael Collins and earlier Daniel O’Connell came from families of old Gaelic Munster nobles.
Culture
Renowned for its Irish folk music tradition and the many ancient castles and monasteries in the province, Munster is a tourist destination. During the fifth century, Saint Patrick spent seven years founding churches and ordaining priests in Münster, but a 5th-century bishop named Ailbe is Münster’s patron.
In Irish mythology, a number of ancient goddesses are associated with the province, including Anann, Aine, Grian, Clíodhna, Aimend, Mor Muman, Bébinn, Aibell and Mongfind. The druid god of Munster is Mug Ruit, and Tlachtga is his daughter. Another legendary figure is Donn.
The province has long maintained trade and cultural ties with continental Europe. Corcu Loigde had a merchant fleet operating along the French Atlantic coast as far as Gascony, which imported wine into Münster. The Eóganachta had ecclesiastical ties to Germany, which is evident in the architecture of their ceremonial capital at the Rock of Cashel.
Most of the Irish Ogham inscriptions are found in Munster, mainly in the areas occupied by the Ivernians, especially Corcu Duibne. Later, the first linguistic dictionary in Europe in any non-classical language, Sanas Cormaic , was compiled by Münster scholars, traditionally believed to have been led by King-Bishop Cormac mac Cuilennain (d. 908).
The Ross School in Münster was one of the leading European centers of learning in the early Middle Ages.

[15] Part of Porter County from 1836 to 1837. [15] It was named for its location on Lake Michigan. [16] The original county seat was Liverpool until Lake Court House, which later became Crown Point, was chosen in 1840. [17] Lake County’s population grew slowly until the 1850s, when the railroads arrived, linking Chicago to the rest of the country and allowing tens of thousands of settlers and immigrants to buy land. Small-scale industrialization began, but it was mostly moved to the north coast of the county. Census 1900, the population is 37,892 people.
Industrialization and immigration
Arrival from the Inland Steel Company to East Chicago in 1903 and U.S. Steel to Gary in 1906 began the county’s population explosion. Immigrants poured in from all over Central and Eastern Europe (in addition to the small Mexican immigrant community) and from many regions of the United States such as the Appalachians and the south. By 1930 Lake County’s population had surpassed 260,000, with the majority of the population being first and second generation Americans. Like the rest of Indiana, the Ku Klux Klan gained a large following at 1920s in response to changing demographics. While the steel industry reigned supreme, other industries also found the county to be an ideal location for cheap land and well-developed transportation networks such as automobiles, oil, chemicals, consumer products, food processing, and construction companies. [18]
The Great Depression was devastating to Lake County, as it was to any area that relied on heavy industry. The Depression, combined with industrial conflicts, changing demographics, and unionization caused Lake County to become a Democratic Party stronghold; Lake County has supported the Democratic nominee for President in every election since 1932 (exceptions occurred in 1956 and 1972), and Indiana’s 1st congressional district has remained in the Democratic column in every election since 1930. The Second World War restored prosperity as industry revived to support the war effort and good economic times continued into the 1970s. More immigrants were attracted by the promise of middle-class jobs in industry, and in addition to refugees and immigrants from Europe, black Americans and Mexicans also arrived in even greater numbers than during the 1910-1930s. As minority populations soared in industrial cities such as East Chicago and Gary, racial tensions resurfaced, and white flight from industrial cities was greatly facilitated by the construction of state and federal highways. [18]
Recent History
Lake County’s population peaked at 546,000 in 1970. The period 1973-1991 saw a severe downturn in the industry caused by foreign competition, a new management philosophy that required a significant reduction in the workforce, and increased productivity through technology. The decline has been particularly severe in the steel industry, with employment in the steel industry exceeding 60,000 in 1960s and gradually decreased to 18,000 by 2015. Lake County’s population declined 13% to 475,000 in 1990.
The industrial downturn of the 1980s cast a long shadow over Lake County: the county did not recover its 1980 employment rate until 1996, after which employment rates have largely stabilized. The county’s economic output peaked in 1978 and has not recovered since then, remaining 15-20% below its inflation-adjusted peak. As prosperity declined, so did immigration, which led to a sharp increase in the county’s population to 19Age 50: According to the 2000 Census, only 5.3% of Lake County residents were foreign born, compared with over 11% for the United States as a whole. [19]
The population recovered somewhat in the 1990s and 2000s as the local economy adjusted. Suburban growth has also been fueled by a commuter population made up of laborers who work in Chicago and commute to bullet trains or the South Shore. In 2007, it was estimated that 44,000 workers traveled to work from Lake County, Indiana, to Chicago. [19] The decline of industrial cities and the growth of suburbs was so dramatic that by 1990 most of the county’s population lived outside the four traditional industrial cities. Lake County is still struggling with urban decay and poverty, suburban sprawl and congestion, and population stagnation. [18]
Geography
According to the 2010 census, the county has a total area of 626.56 square miles (1,622.8 km2). 2 ), of which 498.96 square miles (1292.3 km 2 ) (or 79.63%) is land and 127.60 square miles (330.5 km 2 ) (or 20.37%) is water. [20]
The northern and southern parts of the county (north of US 30 and south of Lowell) are mostly low and flat, with the exception of a few sandy ridges and dunes that were once very waterlogged and had to be drained. The lowest point, at 585 feet (178 m), [7] is located along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
The central part of the county is higher and more mountainous. As you travel south from the low and relatively flat lake plain in the northern part of the county, the land gradually rises until it reaches a peak. Valparaiso Moraine. The highest point at 801 feet (244 m), [6] is in the northeastern town of Winfield near 109th Street and North Lakeshore Drive in Four Seasons Lake. From here the land descends south into the Kankakee Outwash Plain until the Kankakee River is reached.
The geographic center of Lake County is approximately 200 feet (61 m) northwest of Burr Street and West 113th Avenue in Center Township 41°24′53.8″N. 87°24′14.3″W / 41.414944°N 87.403972°W / 41.414944; -87.403972.
