TK or Kindergarten? TK students turn 5 between September 2, 2022 and January 31, 2023 and Kindergarten students turn 5 on or before September 1, 2022.
How to apply to enroll your TK or Kindergarten child at HDLA:
Step one: Watch the prerecorded video orientation starting February 9th at 6:00 pm in Spanish and/or 7:15 pm in English. The videos will be posted through March 18th and you may watch as many times as you like.
Step two: Fill out the HDLA application here. That let’s us know you are interested in our school. You may also pick up a paper application from the HDLA office. These are due completed online or in the drop box by March 18th at 4pm. Remember, watching the orientation video is a requirement prior to applying!
Step three: Register with the District for TK or Kindergarten at your home school. You may pick up a HSD kindergarten packet at any school but it must be turned in to your home school. Those who are accepted for the 22/23 school year will receive an approved transfer form. If you are applying from another school district please call our HDLA office for details on the process. District TK/Kinder registration begins February 28.
Step four: If you list your child as bilingual or Spanish speaking, your child will have a quick conversation over the phone with one of our teachers who can ascertain which fully describes your child’s language dominance. It’s important for us to balance out English, bilingual, and Spanish speakers for the success of all and the criteria we use is often different that the parent’s. These interviews will take place over the phone the week of March 21 -25. We will be in touch to make an appointment.
Step five: There is always more interest in HDLA than we have spots to offer. Half of the 104 spots we have are filled by this year’s TK students. There is usually room for all TK applicants but this varies year to year. Many of our incoming kindergartners are siblings of existing HDLA students. The spots that remain are those that go into the lottery we hold each year. This year the lottery will be held April 1st. Details on how families can watch the lottery results will be emailed to applying families.
Thank you so very much for your interest in our school and we look forward to meeting you in the near future!
¿TK o Kindergarten?
August 2021
Welcome to a new school year! We hope this letter finds you and yours well! The Hollister School District plan is to begin the 2021-22 school year with all students on campus. We are committed to making this a wonderful and safe year! We resume a semi regular program with the following details you should be aware of:
Parent Square is our principal means of communication throughout the District. Please download the app, open and read every text or email you receive from Parent Square.
The first day of school is August 16th
The start and end times of your child’s school day are below. The first ten days of school will be minimum days. After these two weeks, every Thursday will be a minimum day for the rest of the school year. Classes will be posted on the windows of the main office by 5:30 pm on August 13th. In addition, we are encouraging teachers to reach out to families via our new communication app “Parent Square.” Please look for an email or text with a link to their message. Please see the Daily Bell Schedule under the Calendar section above.
Daily Schedule: TK-5th Grades: 8:30 to 2:45 6th-8th Grades: 8:15 to 2:35
Minimum Day Schedule for the first two weeks of the school year:
TK-5th Grades: 8:30 to 1:40 6th-8th Grades: 8:15 to 1:20
TK and Kindergarten Orientations will be Online
These will be sent via Parent Square with a link to a recorded presentation developed by your child’s teachers. It will give you the immediate information for the first days of school and any questions you may have will be answered at Back to School Night. Stay tuned for these presentations prior to the first day of school!
Drop Off and Pick Up at HDLA
Our traffic and parking are among our greatest challenges as a school community. We ask that you drop off your child as follows:
Children should not be dropped off any earlier than 15 minutes prior to the start of their school day, 8:00 for middle schoolers and 8:15 for Tk-5th students.
The Migrant Entrance lot is ONLY for TK and Kinder students drop off and pick up. Parents are not allowed to enter the campus with the exception of TK and K parents for the first day of school. TK and K students will wait outside the classroom with their parents on the first day of school and will receive more information about where they will meet their teachers. We will have plenty of helpers to ensure students get to their classrooms! For pick up, we ask you to stay in your car and we will deliver your child to the door of your vehicle. Walkers may enter and exit through the Migrant Office side as well. Older siblings meet TK and K siblings and sit quietly with them waiting for pick up.
1st through 8th grade students are dropped off in the main parking lot under the solar panels and walk to the playground where they will meet their teachers at a cone with their classroom number. Students are asked to line up at the designated spot the first day of school, and will be given direction about playground rules the first week.
Back to School Night
We will hold in person presentations with your child’s teachers on campus. In order to allow room for everyone, only one parent will be allowed to enter the presentation and please, do not bring your child/ren to this meeting. Parking is always a challenge, so plan to park on Santa Ana Road and walk to our campus. Please see below for your child’s day and time.
Wed. August 25 – TK & K 5:30-6:00 1st 6:15-6:45 2nd 7:00-7:30 3rd 7:45-8:15
Thurs. August 26 – 4th 5:30-6:00 5th 6:15-6:45 6th 7:00-7:30 7th & 8th 7:45-8:15
Daily Life at School
Masks are required of all students and adults on campus while in the office and classrooms. Outdoors, students will be able to remove their masks and play (and eat) without one. Students will be asked to wash their hands prior to entering the classroom and put on their mask before entering. Hand sanitizers are also available across the campus and in classrooms. Masks will be kept in their backpacks, hanging outside the classrooms. We also have masks for students to wear. All classrooms have large commercial air filters running all day and are thoroughly cleaned each day by our custodial staff. Social distancing will be encouraged and as space allows, desks and seats will be as far apart as possible. Teachers may share recommended school supplies with families. You will be receiving a Parent Square letter from our DIstrict nurses with more details about Covid19 Safety and protocols.
Parents on Campus
The first day of school only TK and Kindergarten parents will be allowed to enter campus to escort their child to the door of their classroom. We will have many staff prepared to help students find their classroom. All classrooms have been rearranged to provide easier access. The youngest grades K-4 are all in the quad area, TK is behind the migrant office, older grades now in the G, K and J wings. We kindly insist that you drop your child off at the curb and stay in your vehicle. Please note that our office is open but the campus is still restricted to students and staff only. Due to the current pandemic, no parents are allowed to volunteer nor are parents able to have lunch or snack visits with their child. Thank you for your understanding!
YMCA After School Care
For families needing after school care, the YMCA office downtown can provide info about their program on our campus. The YMCA room will be G3 near the Migrant parking lot and parents will retrieve their child from that side of the campus.
Chromebooks
Students should bring their Chromebooks to class daily to start. Please make sure they are charged and ready to use. Teachers will have more info on this as time goes on.
Uniforms
We have a uniform policy at HDLA. Khaki or Black pants/shorts/skirts/jumpers and black, white or gold shirts. We are in the process of organizing an online order system for shirts. In the past, uniforms were voted upon and chosen but it is difficult to enforce as not every family chooses this option. At this time we will make it optional to wear uniforms until further notice.
Agosto 2021
Horario diario: TK-5 ° grados: 8:30 a 2:45 8-6 ° grados: 8:15 a 2:35
TK-5 ° grados: 8:30 a 1:40 6º a 8º grados: 8:15 a 1:20 p.m.
