Ridley High School serves the Ridley School District. It is located in Folsom, Pennsylvania, United States. The new high school opened in September 2001. In 2010, Ridley High School had 2,067 students and 146 teachers. There were 1071 male and 992 female students. Low income students – 445 people. ^[3] Director – Ken Acker.

History

The original building, formerly known as Ridley Township High School, was completed in 1934 and was built in part with funds from the Works Progress Administration. The library, auditorium, and gymnasium of the old school annex, built in the late 1960s, still stand and are used as a community center. A new building was built in 2001. Sports teams use the community center gym for indoor workouts. The school has added a pond for students involved in environmental activities and activities. Ridley also has a natatorium.

Academic Achievement

In 2011, Ridley High School was at Corrective Action II Year 2 AYP status due to continued poor reading achievement by black male students. In 2010, the school was located in Corrective Action II Year 2 AYP status due to chronically underachieving students in reading and math. ^[4] The Pennsylvania Department of Education required school administrators to develop and submit for approval a school improvement plan to address underachievement.

College recovery rate

According to a Pennsylvania Department of Education survey released in January 2009, 39% of Ridley High School graduates needed correction in math and/or reading. before they were ready to take college-level courses at the Pennsylvania State Higher Education System or community colleges. ^[13] Less than 66% of Pennsylvania high school graduates who go to a four-year college in Pennsylvania will earn a bachelor’s degree within six years. Among Pennsylvania high school graduates seeking an associate’s degree, only one in three graduates in three years. ^[14] According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, one in three recent high school graduates attending Pennsylvania state universities and community colleges takes at least one remedial class in math, reading, or English.

Academics

Ridley High School offers a variety of Advanced Accommodations (AP), in addition to standard college prep and honors classes. RHS offers AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP English Literature and Writing, AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Physics 2, AP Psychology, AP US History, AP US Government and Politics, and AP European History. ^[18]

Classrooms for the Future Grant

The State Classroom for the Future program has provided counties with hundreds of thousands of additional public funds to purchase laptop computers for each major grade in high school (English, science, history, math) and paid for teacher training to optimize computer use. The program was funded from 2006 to 2009. Ridley High School did not apply for 2006-07. In 2007-08, the secondary school received 589355 dollars. In 2008-2009, the school received $106,189. ^[19] Ridley High School used the funds to purchase several hundred Macintosh laptops, Wi-Fi enabled printers and touchscreen smart boards.

Extracurricular activities

The area offers many clubs, activities and sports. Eligibility is determined by school board policy.

Under Pennsylvania law, all District K-12 students, including those attending a private non-public school, cyber charter school, charter school, and homeschoolers, are eligible to participate in extracurricular programs, including sports. They must meet the same selection rules as students in the district’s schools.

Windscript

Ridley High School Literary Arts magazine serves as an outlet for student creativity. Windscript won the Gold Crown from the Columbia Academic Press Association of Columbia University in 2006. ^[21]
