Three U.S. states have announced evacuations due to Hurricane Dorian

      September 2, 2019, 08:25

MOSCOW. SEPTEMBER 2. Interfax – Florida, Georgia and South Carolina have been ordered to evacuate due to Hurricane Dorian.

The National Hurricane Center of the United States assigned the fifth, most powerful category, to Hurricane Dorian, on the Saffir-Simpson scale, thus determining the degree of possible destruction from it as catastrophic.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced mandatory evacuations in nine counties of the state, and voluntary evacuations in seven, follows from a statement published on the website of the head of the region.

“Mandatory evacuation orders sent to Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie counties. St. Johns, Brevard, and Volusi counties will receive orders tomorrow,” the statement said. Mandatory evacuations will also affect Duval, Indian, and Nassau counties.

Voluntary evacuations are taking place in seven more counties.

To ensure free passage for evacuations, the Governor has suspended the collection of tolls on some of the state’s toll roads, including the Turnpike main thoroughfare. There are 38 general and 11 specialized shelters in the state.

Florida authorities are ready to deploy up to 28,000 workers to quickly repair power grids in the event of a break during a hurricane. Up to 40 search teams are on duty.

The statement also says that the state is being heavily supplied with fuel and provisions.

More than 45 secondary schools and 34 universities, as well as a number of state institutions, have announced their closure during the emergency.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has ordered an evacuation of the entire coast of the state.

“We can’t make everyone happy. But we believe we can keep everyone alive,” McMaster said during a speech broadcast on the State Emergency Department website.

McMaster’s mandatory evacuation order for the entire coast of the state will go into effect Monday at noon and will affect 830,000 people.

In addition, the Governor announced that all schools and government offices along the coast will be closed from Tuesday.

According to him, the evacuation has already begun in nursing homes and hospitals.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has announced an evacuation of the region’s coastal communities, according to a statement posted on the governor’s Twitter account.

“Persons east of I-95 in Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Glynn, Liberty, and McIntosh counties must evacuate due to Hurricane Dorian,” Kemp said.
