Why are there many Russian schools in Azerbaijan? And is it bad?

  • Farid Hasanov & Maharram Zeynalov
  • BBC

Students in Azerbaijan study in Russian more often than in neighboring Georgia and Armenia. Appeals are periodically heard in the country to stop state funding of education in Russian. This is happening now, against the backdrop of “protection of the Russian-speakers” in Ukraine. However, in Azerbaijan, the issue of learning the Russian language is largely an economic need and a chance to find a job, and therefore the demand for Russian schools is growing. The BBC has figured out how this happens.

“My grandson is now in the second grade at a Russian school, my granddaughter is five years old, but I will also send her to a Russian school, because wherever you look for a job, the first thing you ask about the Russian language,” says Gulyar Sharifova , a resident of the Goranboy region, which is in the west of Azerbaijan.

She assures that even if classes were opened in their region in English (the most common language abroad), she would still send her grandchildren to the Russian class.

This decision is dictated by her own destiny. At 19In the 1990s, her husband died in the war in Karabakh. She tried to find at least some simple, lowest paid job, but every time she was asked if she knew Russian.

Many years later, says Gular, her children faced the same problem, and therefore she already sent her grandchildren to a Russian school. This is what many people in Azerbaijan do today, even those who do not speak Russian themselves.

Over the past five years, the number of students in Russian schools in Azerbaijan has increased from 90 thousand to 150 thousand.

Over the past five years, the number of students in Russian schools in Azerbaijan has increased from 90,000 to 150,000. Every tenth student is educated in Russian in public schools, and this fact periodically becomes a topic of heated discussion.

Some believe that it makes no sense to study in Russian for successful employment in the future, that the Russian language in general is a “threat to statehood. ” Others notice that free education in Russian gives a chance to learn a foreign language.

There are more public Russian schools in Azerbaijan than in neighboring Armenia and Georgia. They are often referred to as the “Russian sector”. Sometimes the words “azsector” (that is, a graduate of an Azerbaijani school) and “Russian sector” are used as a social stereotype, a characteristic that has nothing to do with ethnicity: the first as a sign of insufficient education, and the second – on the contrary. And calls to close Russian-speaking classes have been periodically heard for many years: without much result.

The End of the Story Podcast

Former Azerbaijani Consul General in Istanbul Ibrahim Nabioglu doesn’t think Russian is an advantage when looking for a job. According to him, in order to work in a store and in the service sector in general, one does not need to learn Russian for 11 years, and therefore it makes no sense for the state to spend money from the budget on it.

“Why do I need to know Russian to sell water? That is, a Russian tourist will not be able to explain to the seller that he wants water? Why does a person selling curtains in a store need to know Russian?” Ibrahim Nabioglu told the BBC Azerbaijan Service.

He added that it is the countries that “teach their citizens to dream” that will succeed in the future. According to the former diplomat, modern universities teach people to think, create new ideas, and dream. “Imagination is built in the native language. If a person does not think in the native language, he will remain a dropout in everything,” Ibrahim Nabioglu believes.

Firudin Jalilov, who served as Minister of Education from 1992 to 1993, spoke much harsher. He called the ignorance of the Azerbaijani language by students of Russian schools and universities “a threat to statehood.”

“Because the history and culture of every nation is reflected in its language. If a child goes to a Russian school, Russian culture, Pushkin, Lermontov come to life in his mind and become his ideal, because he knows them,” said Firudin Jalilov .

The former minister worries that the Russian language is too widely spoken and also doesn’t want the budget to spend money on supporting it.

a person who knows Tolstoy and does not know about Grandfather Korkud (“The Book of My Grandfather Korkud” – the famous Turkic epic – approx. BBC ), will not be an Azerbaijani. , teaching Russian in the country is “a natural process, not a political one,” and reading Russian does not mean “being Russian.” “It’s just that the government shouldn’t allow these schools to train personnel for Russia,” he says.

How many schools are there?

The Ministry of Education told the BBC that out of more than 4,000 schools in Azerbaijan, more than 300 have a Russian sector.

Most of them are located in the capital, and the number of students in them is 156 thousand, which is almost 10% of the total number of students in the country. And their percentage is growing.

The correspondent of the BBC Azerbaijan Service even found a Whatsapp group where Baku residents are discussing the text of a future letter to the Ministry of Education with a request to open Russian-language education in their school.

The deputy of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) Aydin Mirzazade speaks about the natural need for such training, including in rural areas of the country.

“But this does not mean that the teaching of the Russian language is massive,” he recalls. According to him, the government is not engaged in the promotion of any foreign language, and in the future, if there is a need for English-language or French-language schools in the regions, they will also be “financed by the state.”

Founder of several educational projects and school director Rufat Aliyev says that many do not understand the very meaning of the concept of “native language”. “This is the language in which the mother speaks to the child,” he emphasizes. According to the expert, the closure of Russian-language classes, if this happens, will result in trauma for children and “broken destinies,” and at the same time, “knowledge of a foreign language broadens one’s horizons and allows access to world science.”

How did the war in Ukraine affect this topic?

“Sometimes in social networks I come across an idea why people from Russia are allowed to come to Azerbaijan, they say they will live here for some time, they start saying that there are few Russian schools, more are needed, and suddenly you see that they are complaining to the Russian government , they say, come and save us, our rights are being violated,” user Vugar notes in a Facebook post. “I just read a bunch of such accusations.” He disagrees with these accusations.

According to the FSB of the Russian Federation, since the beginning of 2022, 56,000 people have moved from Russia to Azerbaijan. However, the situation was different before. Five years ago, the BBC already wrote about how hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis left to live and work in other countries, and most often in Russia.

Back in the harsh 1990s, men from rural settlements “broke loose” in whole brigades and left to work in Russia. In 1995, when the first war in Karabakh had just ended and Azerbaijan’s per capita GDP was just over $300, Yusif, now 78, left for Tyumen with his brother to sell tomatoes.

“I didn’t know Russian, it was hard and cold, but during the two or three years that I worked there, I managed to raise the children to their feet,” he recalls. “If I knew Russian well, maybe I would have stayed there” .

Economist Natig Jafarli believes that Russia’s war against Ukraine and subsequent sanctions may lead to a reverse outflow of Azerbaijanis to Azerbaijan. It all depends on whether the Russian economy will survive and “what signals will be sent from there to friends and relatives in Azerbaijan.”

He admits that Russia can save its economy in the face of sanctions, and notes that even before the sanctions against Russia, Azerbaijan was poorer.

“Considering the fact that the ruble has strengthened, the income there is still higher than in Azerbaijan, including salaries and pensions,” the economist notes. not on the other side yet.”

On February 22, the day Putin recognized the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR, the president of Azerbaijan met with him in Moscow.

Then Ilham Aliyev also talked about Russian schools and universities. He recalled that more than 15,000 university students study in Azerbaijan in Russian: “So this is the most important, I think, the basis of our relations and the future of our ties, because the Russian language has always united the countries of the former Soviet Union and, of course, without knowledge of the Russian language it will be very difficult to establish communications for future generations. Therefore, as I said, this is a very important factor in our life.”

How things are in Armenia and Georgia

Unlike neighboring Armenia and Georgia, the situation with the Russian language in Azerbaijan is special: According to official statistics, 120,000 Russians live here, and the majority live in the capital, Baku.

There are only 50 schools in Armenia where part of the lessons are taught in Russian. There are only a few Russian-speaking state universities.

In Georgia, the number of Russian-language schools is decreasing all the time, and their number has dropped to 11 this year. Only 2% of schoolchildren study here in Russian (10% in Azerbaijan).

All three countries signed at one time the “Framework Convention on the Rights of National Minorities” of the Council of Europe, Article 14. 2 of which speaks of the right of national minorities to receive education in their native language.

In Azerbaijan there are schools in the Georgian language, and in the regions where Lezgins and Talyshs live compactly, these languages are taught in schools, however, there is no teaching of subjects in these languages. Representatives of these minorities themselves told the BBC about this.

The Ministry of Education, in response to a written request from the BBC, replied that there were Russian and Georgian schools in the country. But they kept silent about the Lezgin and Talysh schools, as well as about the plans related to the creation of Armenian schools.

True, Russian is spoken not only by Russians, but often by other ethnic minorities. There are also Azerbaijanis who do not speak Azerbaijani. There are mixed families where the same dilemma with language affiliation is observed. They face problems precisely because of their lack of knowledge of the Azerbaijani language.

For example, Russian-speaking Baku woman Kristina Ali-Iskanderova regrets that she sent both of her children to the “Russian sector”. According to Kristina, her son, who is now in grade 11, cannot choose the desired profession due to the language barrier.

“Now my son says that he has to choose a profession where he does not need to know Azeri. In fact, he dreamed of becoming a psychologist, and he has a great interest in this profession, but due to difficulties with the language, he decided to study as an engineer “, – Christina laments.

Not about politics and not about quality

15 years ago we wrote that parents often send their children to Russian classes, because they believe that the quality of education is higher, but today it is difficult to agree with this thesis.

Education expert Rufat Aliyev says that the quality of education does not depend on the language of instruction, but on the professionalism of teachers and the director of a particular school.

“Azerbaijani education is already at a low level, both in the “azector” and in Russian, but Russian is at least a foreign language,” the well-known player “What? Where? When?”, the author of the questions and one of the editors of the Azerbaijani “Wikipedia” Rufat Abdullah.

At various times he studied in Azerbaijani, Turkish and Russian. He calls the question of the uselessness of Russian classes “speculation” and “bazaar accusations”: “I think that by closing [Russian schools] we will not achieve anything, but only shoot in a less lame leg.”

Ayb School

Ayb School develops unique educational technologies on a purely national basis and tests the most advanced achievements of modern education. As a result, a fundamentally new learning environment is being formed that can increase the level of competitiveness of Armenian education. Ayb School aims to become a model of the Armenian school of the 21st century. Ayb School sees its mission in the formation of generations of educated, highly moral young people who are aware of their identity and endowed with a sense of responsibility.

Ayb School serves as a kind of laboratory for creating advanced teaching technologies and teaching methodology and their systematic implementation in the practice of education. Subsequently, all these developments – technologies, methods, systematic approaches – are distributed to the education sector throughout the country, thereby increasing its “educational” competitiveness.

Ayb School (Ayb Educational Hub) is one of the most important and large-scale projects of the Ayb Foundation. This is the first school campus in Armenia, and every part of it, every element, being filled with a specific educational meaning, contributes to the formation of a generation of young people, whom it is their education and upbringing that makes them competitive in the face of the challenges of the 21st century. The Ayb Educational Hub is a community-based educational environment where pedagogy, science, art, entrepreneurship and other areas of public life are organically intertwined. Being deeply convinced that real life, its fundamental principles and mainstreams / development trends should be reflected and involved in education, we strive to ensure that the learning process is not limited to the simple transfer of knowledge.

The non-standard architectural solutions implemented during the construction of the Ayb Educational Hub were born thanks to the fruitful cooperation of Armenian architects with leading employees and scientists of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. The latest developments and world experience gained in the construction of schools, “school architecture” were used in the architectural project. According to this project, the Ayb hub is a kind of small town with its own infrastructure: a school, a science and technology center, a fab lab, a church and a community center, a kindergarten, a sports complex, green areas, etc. It occupies 6.5 hectares in the Arabkir administrative district of Yerevan at the address Tbilisi Highway 11/11. The node is designed for 800 students enrolled in a 3-stage system – primary (grades 1-4), secondary (grades 5-9classes) and senior (grades 10-12) school.

The Ayb Educational Hub is deployed around the school as a core component. School for us is not an institution for the transfer of knowledge and skills, but a more capacious, existential concept. The school is the cornerstone of social life. A school is a key mechanism for the continuity of the cultural (in the broadest sense of the word) heritage of a given people and the achievements of mankind as a whole: after all, a school forms a person – a member of society, a bearer of a certain mental code.

Today, Ayb primary, secondary and high schools (with a total area of 8300 sq.m.) are equipped with modern technologies; The atmosphere itself sets you up for learning here, including beautiful and comfortable classrooms and well-equipped laboratories. In the coming years, new units will be built and put into operation. The project and master plan for the development of the entire educational campus, created by the Storaket architectural studio, have already been approved. In 2017, a new educational building was put into operation – building B.

With the assistance of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a workshop-laboratory – a fab lab – was opened in the educational campus, where students put their theoretical knowledge into practice. The construction of the Church of the Holy Translators and the community center continues. Next in line is the construction of a new high school, where more favorable educational, research and sports and health conditions will be created and, accordingly, opportunities for education and science and sports will be expanded. The next stage will be the construction of a new primary school (with a total area of 6,000 sq.m.). The existing educational buildings will be completely dedicated to the secondary school. At the same time, the concept of the museum center of science and technology is being finalized and given a holistic view, regarding which negotiations are also underway with sponsors

The Ayb School, opened in 2011 by the Ayb Educational Foundation with the financial support of philanthropists who rallied around the idea of education, is a foundation (the official name of the Ayb Educational Hub Foundation) and a non-governmental structure by its legal status. The school is managed by the Board of Trustees, the school is not owned by anyone, and it has no shareholders. Ayb High School is the first social project in the non-state sphere of Armenia: about 70% of students receive a scholarship (tuition fee compensation) every year.

are they for Russians or for “Russian-speaking Azerbaijanis”?

06/24/2020

I LOOKED FOR RUSSIAN EVERYWHERE. IN THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, IN THE PARLIAMENT… THEY ARE NOT…

One of the most mysterious phenomena in today’s Azerbaijan, along with oil revenues, foreign assets of the presidential family and people close to the family, is Russian schools. According to Wikipedia, there are more than 300 Russian schools in the republic, in 18 universities of the country teaching is also conducted in Russian. In practice, a country that has money to spend on, especially now that oil and gas revenues have fallen sharply, contains two parallel educational systems.

Why is this being done? For the Russian population?

If you believe the same Wikipedia, and there are practically no other sources on the composition of the population, in 2009 there were 119,300 Russians in Azerbaijan. For comparison: in 1970 there were 510,005 Russians. Considering that representatives of the Russian community continue to move to Russia, we can say that by today their number is unlikely to exceed 90,000 people. And the negative dynamics will continue, that is, the Russians will leave Azerbaijan, primarily for the same reason that the Azerbaijanis themselves leave – the Russian economy, despite all the problems, is significantly superior to the Azerbaijani one in all respects. But there are other reasons as well.

Russians, as it were, by default, have defined certain boundaries of career growth, and this is true in almost all spheres of life. Take the Academy of Sciences. Once upon a time, the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan was created by Russian scientists – Russians, Jews, etc. – first as a branch of the Union. Now there is not a single Russian in the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. There are about a hundred correspondent members, about fifty full members. Is it not surprising when little Nakhchivan gives almost a third of the members of the academy, and no one from the Russians gets there during all the years of independence.

There can be two explanations: either all promising Russians are leaving Azerbaijan, or Russians are barred from entering the academy. As you can see, both options are bad. If everyone promising for science leaves, the rest will leave sooner or later. And if the way for Russians to the academy is booked… I think it is indeed booked. That is, the Aliyev-Pashayev clan, maniacally greedy for everything, including scientific degrees and titles, decided that “we ourselves do not have enough, so we will not give it to others.” Here they don’t give it away. Even for decency. For decency, one Russian deputy was allowed into parliament, and greed got the better of the academy …

What can I say…

Or some of the academic places are just for sale. For which they pay bags of money. Which the Russians don’t have. Of course, in Russia itself there are quite a few people who also buy everything for money, including scientific titles, a place in the academy. So we come to another important aspect of the Russian question: there are no very rich Russians in Azerbaijan. All big business, especially related to natural resources and construction, belongs to the “family”, big officials who have a special relationship with the “family”, heads of law enforcement agencies, deputies who are not actually elected, but appointed either for “affinity”, or for big money. There are no Russians among the major officials either. There is not a single Russian minister, not a single head of the district administration.

This circumstance is all the more strange because quite recently, in the Soviet years, there were many Russians among the high-ranking people of the republic. They headed ministries, departments, Baku regions.

What happened to the Russians?

What happened was that they were given to understand that they did not live in their own country. All of the above does not give grounds to talk about segregation, but there is something similar to this.

The question arises: what about the Russian schools, of which there are more than three hundred? And what about eighteen universities in which teaching is conducted in Russian?

My answer is that all these schools do not really exist for Russians. They exist for the so-called “Russian-speaking Azerbaijanis”, which include the president himself and his family…

RUSSIAN SCHOOLS ARE NURSERS FOR GROWING PEOPLE LOYAL TO THE REGIME

Russian schools in Azerbaijan nowadays are more of a political project. They are nurseries for growing, to use the Bolshevik term, socially and class-wise people close to the regime. The closeness of the Russian speakers to the regime is expressed by the fact that this category of people, with few exceptions, does not pretend to participate in political life, does not join opposition movements, and does not create opposition media. If we take only a cursory glance at the biographical information on opposition leaders and liberal journalists, there will be practically no Russian-speaking or even native Bakuvians among them. For many native Baku residents, of whom there are actually not so many left in the capital, the entire opposition is a redneck, to speak for them at the same time for them is tantamount to the final surrender of the capital to the peasants, whom they treated with deep contempt even in Soviet times. “Russian-speaking” is a special status for them, it is practically the status of a sub-ethnos that has special privileges at the expense of the treasury in return for complete loyalty and complete rejection of civic activity.

Russian education and Russian speaking contribute to the atomization of society, which is also extremely beneficial for the regime. Even in Baku, there is an insurmountable barrier between “Russian-speaking” and ordinary Azerbaijanis, they communicate only when circumstances force them to do so, for example, joint work. There are either no social contacts between these two segments of the population or they are very weak. In this situation, of course, the regime should not be afraid of the consolidation of the capital, which is always the vanguard of political movements and protests. But Russian education and Russian-speaking skills also create a threat to the national security of the country, when hundreds of thousands of people simply do not recognize the state language, the basis of national identity.

Let’s get back to the Russians themselves. Of course, all official statistics on the ethnic structure of the population are significantly falsified and cannot be trusted in any way, and this is not only for Russians. But the general trend is not difficult to predict. If nothing changes in the political life of the country, in two decades there will be no Russians left in Baku, just as there are none left in other regions of Azerbaijan. Nearby is their historical homeland, the economic condition of which is much more preferable, which is much more promising for young people in terms of education and further career growth. There are even more political freedoms in Russia than in Azerbaijan. It is simply impossible to imagine Novaya Gazeta or Ekho Moskvy in Azerbaijan. And the pressure on the free flow of information is increasing every day.

Russian schools do not in the least contribute to the integration of Russians into local life. With no Russian schools in the Baltics, Russians still don’t want to leave. They learn local languages and become active citizens, including politically active ones. In Azerbaijan, Russian-speaking drives people into a kind of ghetto that is very convenient from a domestic point of view, while taking away many rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution. Among the numerous political activists, journalists, students whom the regime slandered and imprisoned for their political position, there is not a single Russian! Does this mean that everything in this country suits them? No. This means that they do not consider this country theirs and do not intend to fight for its freedom, for its dignity. By the way, a very delicate topic: there are no Russian guys among those who die almost every day on the line of suppression of fire between Azerbaijan and Armenia… Well, such is the relationship between the regime and a separate ethnic group…

But not everyone wants to live like this forever. Azerbaijanis are spoken of from outside as a “Europeanized” people. But Russians by nature and historically Europeans. And it is unlikely that they will always like the fact that European values are unceremoniously trampled on in their country of residence…

So, the day is not far off when the Azerbaijani authorities will lose their main trump card – the Russian community. She has become quite small now. Russians in Azerbaijan are often used for power as a tool of blackmail. “Don’t forget that many Russians live here,” unelected Azerbaijani deputies say frowningly when they are offended by some decisions of Moscow. Moscow will one day ask: “Tell me, please, how many Russians exactly remain in Azerbaijan!” Of course, these deputies can name any figure they like. But judging by the fact that Russians are practically not represented anywhere today, we can say that Russians in Azerbaijan are a fact of history. And in a large number of Russian schools, being nurseries for the cultivation of apolitical and deeply loyal to the regime people, in fact, they had no special relationship with the Russian community . ..

Talish do not want to die in the war against Armenia: protests in Azerbaijan

Turkish instructors train pan-Turkist militants in the occupied parts of Nagorno-Karabakh

05/03/2022

A number of independent sources testify that militants from the north of Syria, transferred by the Turkish military command to Azerbaijan during the 44-day war in Karabakh, not only did not leave the country, but also created camps in the occupied territories of the Armenian Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to prepare replenishment. Thus, the radical pan-Turkists will reproduce themselves in the South Caucasus – in the immediate vicinity of the borders of Iran and Armenia, as well as in the zone of priority interests of the Russian Federation.

Talish who fought in Artsakh ask for help from relatives living in Russia

29.03.2021

Azerbaijani Talysh, who took part in the military operation of Ilham Aliyev’s regime in Artsakh, are now actively asking for material assistance from the Talysh living in the territory of the Russian Federation.

Once again about the students of Lankaran University

16.02.2021

The argument of the indignant students was simple – they noted that even in Armenia, hostile to Azerbaijan, they not only study the Talysh language and Talysh culture, but also publish literature about the Talysh people, their history and language. “If this is done in enemy Armenia, then why doesn’t the same thing happen in the center of Talishistan Lankaran, on the territory of Azerbaijan, which constantly declares its tolerance and loyalty to the indigenous peoples?” the protesters asked.

The war in the NKR is a signal for Russia. Armenia – the last frontier

04.02.2021

No matter how much Azerbaijan tries to refute the presence of this element in the country, it is reliably known that jihadists settle down in a region that is attractive to them in many respects. Now, for example, the recreation area “Haftoni” in Lankaran has been given for their residence. I hope that the perception of Turkey as a neo-Ottoman phenomenon, with a clearly expressed religious vector, has finally crystallized – Ottoman Hanafi Sunnism with Salafism tendencies . Kemalism will be finally put an end to, unless, of course, there is a sharp turn in the course due to some circumstances.

Grigorov: Don’t betray Armenians!

01/24/2021

And everyone who has brains, that is, the absolute minority in the fatherland, it was clear that if there were at least forty Pashinyan-Soros in Armenia, it was impossible to betray the Armenians. Because only the Karabakh Armenians have done more for Russia than any republic of Central Asia, and the Armenians as a whole have done more than all the union republics of Asia, including Azerbaijan, taken together.

Erdogan is preparing a new “Armenian game”

12.01.2021

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu made an intriguing statement. The first story is that, according to the minister, “an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, reached through Russian mediation, will finally allow Turkey to normalize relations with Armenia,” and that “Turkey hopes that Armenia will not violate the ceasefire.

UDINS. Memory of roots

01/08/2021

In the late 80s – early 90s. with the beginning of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict in Karabakh and the subsequent beginning of the collapse of the USSR, the national-chauvinist forces in Azerbaijan are strengthened. Once again, they mistake Udins for Armenians. As a result, the Udins of Vartashen, fearing pogroms by nationalists, are forced to leave their homes for centuries. The Udins living in Mirzabeyli and Soltan-Nukhi were also under constant fear of local nationalists, and, in the end, leaving their homes, they moved to Nij.

Caucasian Albania: pseudo-historical myths in the service of politics

08.01.2021

Another way of waging historical wars is the “privatization” of the historical and cultural heritage of Caucasian Albania, which, obviously, will receive a new impetus now, after a number of early medieval Christian monuments in the territory of Kelbajar, Lachin and some other regions come under the control of Azerbaijan.

Erdogan’s words in Baku are a challenge not only to Iran, but also to Russia. Interview

12/30/2020

Turkey’s participation in the war in Karabakh has certainly made Turkey an important political factor in the South Caucasus, although this factor may well not be as long-term as it seems in Ankara and Baku. Attempts to create a format for a long-term military presence, undertaken by the Turkish side, are sure to irritate both Moscow and Tehran, not to mention Yerevan.

The scientific and educational project of the Talysh Youth Union “TOLYSHNOMA” provided its first product.

12/26/2020

The application “Talysh Dictionary (by F. Aboszoda)” offers electronic dictionaries from the Talysh language into 4 languages at once: Russian-Talysh dictionary (60,000 words; Munich, 2012), Turkic-Talysh dictionary (55,000 words; Baku, 2015) , English-Talysh dictionary (250,000 words; Munich, 2012), Persian-Talysh dictionary (100,000 words, manuscript). It should be especially noted that these are the first cases of launching the English-Talysh and Persian-Talysh electronic dictionaries.

Leader, seer, martyr: On the legacy of Fakhraddin Aboszod on his birthday

12/26/2020

Fakhraddin was a brave man to the point of recklessness, he was not afraid of anything. In response to my warnings, he abruptly interrupted me: “If someone wants his people to live freely, he should not think about danger. Fear and living in fear is not the way of struggle.” He demonstrated this throughout his life, sacrificing everything – and family, and freedom, and life for the sake of his people.

UNESCO Should Dismiss Mrs․ Mehriban Aliyeva From Her Title Of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador

12/14/2020

The First Vice-President of Azerbaijan , Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva – representative of one of the most corrupt, violent, and oppressive regimes of our times, should not remain a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, as a politician who bears full responsibility for countless human rights violations, encouragement and implementation of the hate policy. . .

LOVELY TO TURKEY, HATE RUSSIA, DON’T TOLERATE AZERBAIJANIANS – WHO WILL POPULATE THE ARTSAKH LANDS THAT WENT TO AZERBAIJAN?

02.12.2020

After the war, Azerbaijan became, if not a vilayet, then at least a territory completely subject to Turkey and under its control. Meanwhile, despite the slogan “two states – one nation” that has been promoted for decades, it is obvious to everyone, including the Turks, that this is far from being the case.

The war in Artsakh and the indigenous peoples of Azerbaijan

11/26/2020

The pan-Turkist bacchanalia in Azerbaijan after the “Turan’s victory” clearly showed that the Talysh, like the Lezgins, Avars and other autochthons, should not count on anything other than further deterioration of the situation – tightening the mechanisms of assimilation, persecution and humiliation. The fetters that had fettered them for years became even tighter. The only thing that the autochthons got from the last war were thousands of martyrs and the illusion of participation in the Pyrrhic victory.

Urgent! Ismail Shabanov and Zabil Maharramov wrote denunciations against Fakhraddin Aboszod to the FSB and the FMS!

11/25/2020

It turns out that Fakhraddin Aboszod was denounced for a long time by Ismail Shabanov, who positions himself as a member of the Council for Nationalities under the President of the Russian Federation, and Zabil Maharramov, a former driver of KRAZ, and now allegedly acting as a journalist. Moreover, it is interesting that both of them, during the long years of Fakhraddin’s stay in Moscow, constantly enjoyed the hospitality of this holy and, indeed, naive person.

Fighting draw in Karabakh: Armenians did the impossible – Russian expert

11/20/2020

“I can only say one thing: both operational art, and tactical training of the commanders of the Karabakh troops is the highest. Courage is supreme. In those conditions in which they fought, with that monstrous superiority in forces and With the means that the Azerbaijanis had, the Armenians showed miracles of mass heroism. I am in another way I can not say ”, , emphasizes Sivkov.

JIHADITS, TALISHI, IRAN

11/17/2020

Of course, Turkey’s plans include not only the Sunniization of Azerbaijan itself, but also the use of all this potential to aggravate the situation in the North Caucasus and in Russia as a whole. Their plans are to reach China, initiating the processes they need in Central Asia. Azerbaijan is an ideal springboard for these far-reaching plans of Turkey, and that is why it could count on Turkey’s full support in the war.

In whose hands is Shushi?

11/09/2020

In fact, the Azerbaijani units that tried to enter Shushi are now rapidly fleeing from there in several directions at once, losing equipment, weapons and ammunition. However, the fugitives still, apparently, were very lucky, because hundreds of unlucky “stormtroopers” remained lying on the outskirts of the city and in its environs forever.

SHEIKH ZAKHID GILANI: DON’T BELIEVE A TURK, DON’T LET HIM INTO THE HOUSE!

11/07/2020

… And, addressing his students, he says: “My dears, never let a Turk into your house. He will take everything valuable that you have, and if he does not find anything, he will take your life. Remember, do not let a Turk to yourself, do not trust a Turk. What happened once again convinced me of this. “…

SHEIKH ZAKHID GILANI: DON’T BELIEVE A TURK, DON’T LET HIM INTO THE HOUSE!

11/07/2020

Once Sheikh Zahid Gilani is sitting in tekiye in Lahijan, a man, a Turk, comes to him, bows, as it should be, and says: “O Sheikh, I came from afar, I want to become your student, I want to comprehend the depths of your philosophical world” .

Coronavirus in Azerbaijan

11/06/2020

In fact, Azerbaijan is losing control over the epidemic, chaos reigns in the country due to the rising rates of morbidity and mortality. The Azerbaijani authorities are really afraid of popular anger, which, however, is inevitable – throughout the country there is dissatisfaction with the absolute inaction of the government in terms of controlling the epidemiological situation, and the course of hostilities in Karabakh.

Let sexual fantasies down, or another excuse for failures at the front

11/05/2020

Earlier, Aliyev accused Russia of sending weapons to Armenia. Now he is clearing the ranks of the army from high-level officers with a Russian education. In fact, the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan has been removed from command – he once served in the group of Soviet troops in Germany, then in the Siberian military district. It is obvious that Aliev and his clique are trying by any means to justify their failure and their failure at the front.

Let sexual fantasies down, or another excuse for failures at the front

11/05/2020

As it became known, a serviceman of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Major Ilgar Umudov, was arrested by military counterintelligence officers. An officer of the Azerbaijani army, instead of being on the battlefield, or in the rear to ensure the success of our army, is now arrested and is waiting for a court decision. Cause?

Denunciation of the Talysh against the Azeri-Eraz: “For the attention of the military commissariat of the city of Lankaran”

11/03/2020

Do you think that if we cling to the Azeris, they will respect us more or treat us differently? No, brother, that will never happen! And no matter how this war ended, they both despised us and will continue to despise us – we will always remain second-class people for them.

Lezgin genocide

10/30/2020

It is not the enemy who is fought in open battle that is terrible, but the one who is invisible at first glance, who cunningly hides under the mask of a “friend”, “co-religionist”, “brother”, who will never go into open battle, but by all means , stealthily, cuts down ancient roots and occupies foreign lands…

Talish flee to the forests and mountains

10/29/2020

Taking into account the losses of the Azerbaijani army on the fronts of Karabakh and all the shrinking opportunities to recruit recruits, it can be assumed that in the very near future Baku will lose the remnants of offensive resources, and the Azerbaijani troops will begin to roll back from Karabakh back to the east. This means that the defeat of the Aliyev regime is close.

Talish flee to the forests and mountains

10/29/2020

There are already cases of detention and imprisonment of deserters, but the process of evading the service of an increasing number of people seems unstoppable. The Talysh, as well as the Lezgins, openly say that they are even ready to go to prison – just not to go to the front. The motivation of young people is simple – they usually get out of prison, and return from Karabakh much less frequently.

Is it really the fate of the Talysh to die for the Azeri-Ottomans, for Aliyev and Erdogan?

10/29/2020

I want to address the author: Elvin-Boli, did you only recently find out who the Turks are? Did you get acquainted with their cunning through the media? Didn’t you know them before? Don’t you know that after the war everyone will forget our martyrs, no one will remember them – as it was after the first Karabakh war. Why are you, dear brother, sending our young lads to the slaughter, to someone else’s war, which has absolutely nothing to do with us?

Is it really the fate of the Talysh to die for the Azeri-Ottomans, for Aliyev and Erdogan?

10/29/2020

Recently, a certain Elvin Bagirov, a Talysh from Azerbaijan, posted the following post on his Facebook page:

“Only in the village of Archivan, Astara region, we have six martyrs. But the Azerbaijani media are exclusively engaged in the propaganda of Turkism. Moreover, this is only one of our villages, and how many more Talysh villages and regions … At the same time, there are regions inhabited by Turks in Azerbaijan , who in total did not give as many martyrs as one Talysh village gave.”

Informwar: Baku buys wholesale unmanned “talking heads” from Ukraine

10/28/2020

Media expert Larisa Drozdova, on the air of the NewsOne TV channel, gave details of how Azerbaijan is recruiting information troops. “We are interfering in the politics of Belarus! We are climbing into the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh! And by the way, experts from of Ukraine, who will be taken to Azerbaijan, to the front line. So that they cover the events from the side of Azerbaijan and denigrate Armenia. “

The explosion of the tanker “General Azi Aslanov”: what does Azerbaijan have to do with it?

10/28/2020

I want to emphasize that it is hardly a mere coincidence that, three months after the disappearance of Azi Aslanov Street, the tanker “General Azi Aslanov” explodes – moreover, this happens at the very time when the terrorists fed by Azerbaijan launched their activity throughout Russia , and Azerbaijan itself started a war in Karabakh, literally sending thousands of Talysh to be slaughtered there.

Alakram Gumbatov: “Patriotic war of the Azerbaijani people against the Armenians”

10/28/2020

“There is a war going on, a patriotic war; there is a legitimate initiative to restore the borders of Azerbaijan accepted by the world community. Each person should feel responsible to the families of martyrs and provide them with everything necessary. There is no need to spare anything for them – neither moral nor material.” I wonder if, finally, in Baku, Gumbatov’s loyal promises will be noticed?

What will happen to the Talysh: or what should we do?

10/24/2020

Perhaps some scientists will be saddened, they will write articles and books about us, they will analyze our language, study our culture … But what about ourselves? Do we ourselves think that we can disappear as a people? And this is worth thinking about, my dear. Therefore, today, against the backdrop of the truly heroic struggle of the Armenian people for freedom, it is a shame to be a witness to how some Talysh organize shameful demonstrations. I understand that this is happening under a certain pressure from local authorities and corrupt “Talysh aksakals.”

The tragedy of the village of Sanjaradi: Talish, wake up!

10/23/2020

I think it’s time to turn to human rights organizations regarding the system of mobilization of representatives of national minorities of Azerbaijan and the disproportionateness of their participation in the war in Karabakh. This simply cannot be allowed! Moreover, this problem concerns not only the Talysh, but also the Lezgins, Avars and other indigenous ethnic groups of the Caspian Sea.

The tragedy of the village of Sanjaradi: Talish, wake up!

10/23/2020

I am now addressing those scoundrels who call on the Talysh youth to participate in the war in Karabakh for the sake of the “Azerbaijani flag”, imaginary shahidism and other goals only known to them! Look into the eyes of mothers who have lost their children! I appeal to the members of the so-called Public Council of the Talysh of Azerbaijan, who now and then call for a war against the Karabakh Armenians and “liberation of the lands.

Alakram Gumbatov sympathizes with Ganja, where he visited, forgetting about Stepanakert, where… he also visited

10/20/2020

A man who spent 12 years in Azerbaijani dungeons, was subjected to severe torture, whose family – his wife and two children – were forced to hide and left Azerbaijan with difficulty, with a threat to life, speaks of his “patriotic” feelings for Azerbaijan, beats him with his forehead , almost crawling on the ground – if only they would forgive him, if only they would consider him “one of their own”.

Ilham Aliyev fled to Turkey?

10/20/2020

As a result, a large-scale indignation is brewing throughout the country, which will most likely begin in areas densely populated by the indigenous peoples of Azerbaijan, but then will certainly affect Baku as well. Moreover, dissatisfaction with the war and Aliyev’s policy is also brewing among the Azerbaijani political elite.

Ilham Aliyev fled to Turkey?

10/20/2020

Seeing a not so obvious, but very real danger to his power, freedom and life, he tries not to tempt fate while in Baku – friendly Turkey, where he has a lot of real estate, is suitable for encouraging Azerbaijani soldiers and writing bravura appeals to the Azerbaijani nation much better.

Frightened Aliyev will agree to any conditions for the sake of maintaining power

10/19/2020

Azerbaijani dictator Ilham Aliyev is now terribly frightened. Now, with the proper level of pressure, he will agree to everything – to peace with Armenia, and to the abandonment of Karabakh, and much more, just to stay in power. It is obvious that Aliyev, planning a “small and victorious war”, was simply not ready for the unsuccessful outcome of the operation of his armed forces.

Frightened Aliyev will agree to any conditions for the sake of maintaining power

10/19/2020

Unfounded statements about the capture of Hadrut further added to the panic in the ruling family. Even the Azerbaijani people, with all their desire to achieve justice (in their view) and return Karabakh, ceases to believe in the leader. Remember the Soviet classic “Ivan Vasilievich changes his profession”? Kazan took, Rostov took, Hadrut… no, he didn’t.

The tragedy of the Talysh people

10/18/2020

Of course, now these freaks will say that the Armenians are to blame for everything – they say they killed our children. But it is obvious that Aliyev sent the Talysh to their death, knowing full well that they would die, because the Armenians are defending their lands, their homes, the Armenians are fleeing the genocide, which they will survive in case of defeat. We came to them with weapons in our hands, and we are surprised that they are killing us.

Mankurts speaking on behalf of Lezgins

10/18/2020

Insha Allah, this boomerang will return to you in your life. Insha Allah, you who scream that you are “citizens” and are obliged to fight, be sure to drown along with this country.

Will the indigenous peoples of Azerbaijan finally rise? In any case, you can feel the breath of the explosion…

10/18/2020

I just want to ask the old man: Imamverdi-muallim, aren’t you ashamed yourself? You are an adult, you stand with one foot on the threshold of eternity, why do you serve Tagut and Dajjal – Aliyev, a bloody dictator and the worst enemy of your people?

Alakram Humbatov is ready to die for the Azerbaijani flag?!

10/18/2020

So, Alakram is only a Talysh in appearance, but from the inside he is a gray wolf, a kind of Turk shifter. I just wonder why Aliyev does not invite him to Azerbaijan, while Gumbatov dreams about it and will do everything for the sake of returning to his “homeland”, whatever they say.

Will the indigenous peoples of Azerbaijan finally rise? In any case, you can feel the breath of the explosion…

10/18/2020

In Azerbaijan, apparently, they are seriously alarmed because of the growing protest moods of the indigenous peoples – Talysh, Lezghins and others. Not a day goes by without the Azerbaijani industry releasing yet another journalistic “masterpiece”, allegedly showing the loyalty of representatives of national minorities to the “commander-in-chief”.

Alakram Humbatov is ready to die for the Azerbaijani flag?!

10/18/2020

So, Alakram recently wrote on his FB page: “We, the Talysh, stand next to the main symbol of our country – next to the flag, which we love more than life, for which we gave so many shahids.”

Aliyev’s throne is dangerously tottering – Azerbaijan will soon be different from what it was before September 27

10/16/2020

Interestingly, the Talysh themselves reacted to the official announcement about the capture of the village of Talish by the Azerbaijani troops with a joke: “The only place in the region that is officially called Talish is in Karabakh; having become part of Azerbaijan, it will probably be renamed soon.

Aliyev’s throne is dangerously tottering – Azerbaijan will soon be different from what it was before September 27

10/16/2020

As far as I understand, knowing Azerbaijan and communicating with their relatives and friends, the people are extremely excited, and the situation in the country is explosive. I have no doubt that many do not believe the staged shows, the participants of which are in favor of continuing the war, for Karabakh, etc. Everyone knows that this is a fake.

SOS! The life of Fakhraddin Aboszod is in danger again!!!

10/15/2020

“I will never, under any circumstances, commit suicide. This goes against my religious beliefs and my personal wrestling code. If you find out about my suicide, then I was killed. We recently received information that Fakhraddin Aboszoda went on a hunger strike…

Talysh fighter Emil Bakhshiev: “Byzhi Tolysh!” – “Long live Talyshistan!”

10/15/2020

Commenting on the threats against him, Emil said with a smile: “I didn’t want to discuss it, but, unfortunately, yes, there were threats. The fact is that I said hello to my people. I am Talysh by nationality. I don’t know what’s wrong with you guys. I just said hello to my people, but if it hurts you, then I will say hello again. Hello Talish! I love you!”.

Where are the Azerbaijani “heroes”?

10/13/2020

“Also pay attention to the fact that the name of the hero Ramil Safarov has recently been actively mentioned in Azerbaijan, but these days, he, like our other heroes, does nothing and remains completely silent. While all the heroes and Armenian officials are now in the conflict zone,” writes the authoritative Azerbaijani opposition resource Freeazerbaijan . org .

Azerbaijani society is shocked by the losses on the Karabakh front

10/13/2020

Freeazerbaijan.org, honestly and openly states: “As of October 13, the Armenian Armed Forces shot down 16 helicopters, 18 aircraft, 173 UAVs, 521 armored vehicles, mostly tanks, 86 vehicles, 4 Smerch MLRS, 4 heavy flamethrower systems “TOS-1A”, 1 MLRS “Uragan” of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. There are over 5,139 dead on the Azerbaijani side.”

Azerbaijani society is shocked by losses on the Karabakh front

10/13/2020

Obviously, the publication of these and subsequent data in Azerbaijan will cause panic and apathy in the society, which, for sure, will ask the authorities why and for what all these people died, equipment was destroyed and disabled, and what to do next.

Will Nagorno-Karabakh be a grave for Erdogan?

10/12/2020

In the event of a tacit agreement between Moscow and Washington, this war could turn diplomatically against President Erdogan, who has become unbearable for both powers. And what happened to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who suddenly turned from a Pentagon minion into Enemy No. 1 when he decided he was allowed to take over Kuwait, could also happen to the Turkish president.

Armenians are fighting heroically, and we are watching, or what is the subjectivity of an ethnic group

08. 10.2020

I do not know the situation in the Lezgi territories, but in my homeland, in Talyshistan, there is not a single village, not a single settlement where funeral rites would not be performed every day. Moreover, as I already wrote, not all bodies are given out as the soldiers die – they are kept in morgues, notifying the relatives of the dead gradually.

Armenians are fighting heroically, and we are watching, or what is the subjectivity of an ethnic group

08.10.2020

It would seem that all of us should have been inspired by this war, potentially giving us the opportunity to throw off the filthy yoke of this rotten state formation, to free ourselves from slavery. It was not even necessary to rebel, to take any radical steps. We needed to at least take an interested neutral position.

Talysh at the front are shot by Azerbaijani detachments!!!

08.10.2020

Know, Aliyev, firstly, Azerbaijan is not our fatherland, our fatherland is Talyshistan! Secondly, now we are not defending ourselves, but attacking the Armenians, who have never done anything bad to us, the Talysh! And thirdly, let’s be honest – we do not need to fight with the Armenians, but to unite – against the criminal Aliyev regime, – Rashad Likage

Azerbaijani doctor: Azerbaijan does not evacuate the wounded from the battlefield

10/08/2020

“. .. Maybe someone will tell me “There is nothing to feel sorry for the Azerbaijanis, they are aggressors themselves” and I will not agree. All these people are soldiers. those who are still alive,” Azerbaijani doctor

THE TRUTH FROM THE MOUTH OF THE DEAD AZERBAIJANI PILOT

10/07/2020

“I don’t care what problems Azerbaijan will have. His colleague also said that the soldiers are even worse, they are sent to attack without the support of armored vehicles, like [cannon] fodder. Thousands of corpses lie and rot, this violates our customs of Islam, and our Department of Defense does not stop to even collect them.”

THE TRUTH FROM THE MOUTH OF THE DEAD AZERBAIJANI PILOT’S WIFE

07.10.2020

… he replied that we could not eject – it was arranged so that we would not be captured, since Turkish pilots were flying with us, two had already died. And if they or we are captured, Azerbaijan will have big problems, we have a one-way ticket.

Karabakh and Muslims of Russia: muftis are for peace, religious activists are for Baku

07.10.2020

So, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, made an appeal in which he called on the Armenians and Azerbaijanis (he called them “fraternal peoples”) to stop the “senseless bloodshed”, since Nagorno-Karabakh became “ a bleeding wound, which certain forces do not give the opportunity to heal, and from the whole Caucasus, all the fraternal peoples of the region suffer from this pain “.

TALYSH IN AZERBAIJAN WILL BE DISCLAIMED FOR FAILURES ON THE FRONT

03.10.2020

It must be assumed that as the Azerbaijani army retreats, the number of accusations against the Talysh, as well as representatives of other national minorities, will grow like a snowball.

TALYSH IN AZERBAIJAN WILL BE DISCLAIMED FOR FAILURES ON THE FRONT

03.10.2020

Failures at the front have already begun to be attributed to the Talysh. It must be assumed that as the Azerbaijani army retreats, the number of accusations against the Talysh, as well as representatives of other national minorities, will grow like a snowball.

INTELLIGENCE, DON’T BE SILENT! PEOPLE, Rise up! TALISHI AND LEZGINS IN THIS WAR

03.10.2020

Stand up to your full height with your visor open and speak the truth to your peoples! Take an example from the warring Artsakh! From Armenian soldiers, from every Armenian who is ready to lay down his head for his land! Do not be afraid! Remember, the Armenians are fighting for you too! Help them! If you can’t help, don’t interfere!

Turkey attacks Russia in Nagorno-Karabakh

02.10.2020

Profound comments that Nagorno-Karabakh is not Armenia at all, but quite the opposite – a part of the former Azerbaijan SAR, and later independent Azerbaijan, recognized by the international community, in this case are intended to divert the conversation into speculative nonsense. Don’t fall for it, it’s stupid and just bad.

THE DICTATOR WAS CRAZY: ALIYEV DECLARED MARIAL STATE, FORGETTING THAT IT IS ALREADY IN ACTIVITY

28.09.2020

…Talyshs are literally being driven to the slaughter, forcing them to fight against the Armenians, and people are forced to go to the front under fear of terrible reprisals. However, we see that this does not help the Aliyev clique – after all, a large number of people in battle does not mean victory.

BROTHERS, TOGETHER WITH THE ARMENIANS, TOGETHER WITH THE ARMENIANS, THE COLOSS WITH FEET OF CLAY, IS THE AZERBAIJANIAN PSEVO-STATE!

09/27/2020

It was in the Talysh regions that the largest and toughest mobilization took place, and it is our soldiers who are now forced to fight the Armenians, who have done absolutely nothing wrong to us, the Talysh, Avars and Lezgins! This is the diabolical plan of Aliyev and his clique.

BROTHERS, TOGETHER WITH THE ARMENIANS, TOGETHER WITH THE ARMENIANS, THE COLOSS WITH FEET OF CLAY, IS THE AZERBAIJANIAN PSEVO-STATE!

09/27/2020

A few hours ago, a Talysh, lieutenant colonel of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, died. Well, he is not a conscript soldier, and, most likely, he had a choice whether to fight on the side of Azerbaijan.

Night illumination of the city (in 2020!), according to Lev Askerov, is something transcendent, incredible, wonderful! Yes, in any city of Azerbaijan, except for Baku! But Lev Askerov, of course, will not write about this …

I came here last Monday, I live in a picturesque place in the Austrian Alps. A small village, with a dozen houses scattered in a vast open space, and between them – green meadows with peacefully grazing flocks; domestic animals are everywhere – hens, roosters, exotic pheasants; the air is clean and filled with the scent of flowers, in a word – heaven on earth.

how are private schools arranged in Armenia?

A quality education for a child is the best investment, according to the majority of parents in Armenia who are ready to cut their expenses in order to give their child the opportunity to become fluent in foreign languages, gain in-depth knowledge, and most importantly, a chance to enter prestigious universities in Europe and USA.

In fact, the call to invest in human capital is based on economic considerations. Experts conducted research and found that 50% of GDP in Russia is produced by people with higher education. And according to estimates of the effectiveness of education at Motorola, every dollar invested in education brings her 33 dollars in profit. And yet, among all countries, Singapore’s experience stands apart – in this Asian country, for the first time, a systematic approach to human capital management was applied. In his best-selling book Singapore Story: From the Third World to the First, Lee Kuan Yew admits: “It took me a while to understand the obvious: Talented people are the country’s most valuable asset.

Forge of talents

Lyceum named after Anania Shirakatsi celebrated its 30th anniversary. At first it was an educational institution where gifted children were identified and trained. Only innovators who own modern methods are accepted as teachers. Since 2008, the educational institution has been a member of the Association of International Baccalaureate Schools of the CIS countries, and is also recognized as a full member of the Round Square World Association of International Schools. Schools included in this association form high humanistic, civic and spiritual values among pupils.

The atmosphere of a private school is initially different from that of a public school. In order to enter a private school, a child must pass exams, teachers fix what level of education he has, strengths and weaknesses, and then systematically seek the child to reveal his talents and achieve heights in his favorite field.

The presence of unique specialists, modern equipment and the ability to quickly respond to any changes in educational processes are the main advantage. When parents move from one country to another, students of private schools not only do not lag behind their peers, but sometimes even get ahead of them.

“The most interesting experience was when we went to Canada in the 11th year, the older one went to the 12th and the younger to the 9th. They were a year ahead of the rest of the school. The eldest was told that you have nothing to do in the 12th grade and he entered the university a year earlier,” says diplomat, father of a lyceum pupil Armen Yeganyan.

In high school, students study exact and natural sciences in English. This makes it possible to read specialized literature in the original. Teachers in the classroom in an interesting and accessible way introduce the children to the world around them and come up with exciting experiments to involve them in the learning process. For example, in a biology lesson, students use hamsters to figure out which color is more comfortable for animals. They built a labyrinth and highlight the path of the hamster using different colors on a mobile phone. The same labyrinth was built for rabbits.

“Without such experiments, biology would be a boring science, we do different experiments every year. We had fish, rats, turtles,” says biology teacher Mariam Ohanyan.

The compulsory program for high school students includes dancing, singing, painting, photography and video filming and, of course, sports. But the methodologists decided to go even further and organized a kind of mix – they combined tennis lessons with photography.

“This is necessary for children to see the connection between objects, it promotes analytical thinking. For example, now they are learning to photograph people in motion, the photographer explains all the features to them, such professional shooting leads to the formation of an artistic taste, ”explains Anna Stepanyan, Deputy Director for Educational and Methodological Issues.

Parents of pupils of the lyceum can safely devote themselves to their work. Children are met at school in the morning and escorted back in the evening. There is a well-coordinated system of transporting children on minibuses.

In the canteen, students can eat delicious food, and a professional nutritionist works in the kitchen, who selects healthy meals for students. In comfortable rooms, students do their homework with the help of teachers, and only then go home.

Lyceum education costs three thousand dollars a year. At the same time, only those who successfully passed the entrance exam are taken. The lyceum has become authorized in the International Baccalaureate system, which means that all the doors of elite educational institutions are open to graduates. In order not to leave talented children behind, whose parents are not able to pay for education, the leadership of the lyceum decided to annually allocate funds from the budget for scholarships for gifted children.

“According to their application, we are reviewing their financial situation. There are families who pay nothing at all, but for this we analyze our budget in order to understand how much we can take from there. And now it is 7 percent that goes from the budget to students for scholarships,” says the director of the Anania Shirakatsi Armenian National Lyceum Ashot Alikhanyan.

Anania Shirakatsi lyceum graduates are well-known businessmen, scientists, ministers and deputies, people of art in the country. Lyceum graduates study at Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Moscow State University.

Good relay. Ayb School

Ayb School (the first letter of the Armenian alphabet) was opened in Yerevan in 2011. Its founders are Diaspora Armenians who have become world-famous entrepreneurs, scientists, musicians and artists. They consider their achievements and successes the result of a good education. And therefore they consider: received a good education and reached the heights of career growth? The time has come to repay the equally talented children whose parents do not have the opportunity to give them a world-class education. The educational system of the school is built on the most effective programs from around the world and has its original name – the Ararat Baccalaureate, which is recognized by international experts.

At first, patrons helped only high school students to get an education, who easily entered the prestigious universities of the world. Later, a primary and secondary school opened. Here, parents already have to pay, and a lot – about 6 thousand dollars a year. Funds are used to implement the most daring ideas of schoolchildren. Everything is done to reveal the talents of students.

“There is no upper bar in education. How much money do you need for education? The bigger, the better. Projects, ambitions, ideas of children – they are limitless, and the implementation of all ideas really needs resources. The more attractive the school, the better its quality, the more attractive it is for sponsors. They want to participate in the accomplishment, to see the fruits of their investments,” says David Sahakyan, Executive Director of Ayb Private School.

Ayb School students created their own rock band, play in the theater studio, and play sports professionally. High school students who are passionate about robotics implement their most daring ideas at school. 90% of the graduates of this robotics club become high-tech engineers. The school spares no expense to implement ideas. Cooperates with the American company National Instruments, which provides the necessary parts.

“We have developed the “Sar tar” device, which means “take it to the mountains”. It is for climbers, for those who conquer mountains. These antennas help to connect with GPS satellites and determine the location of the lost group with an accuracy of 20 cm. The data is transmitted to rescuers who are in a hurry to help,” says 12th grade student Tatev Margaryan.

At chemistry lessons in a private school, children not only study the subject, but also solve environmental issues with its help. Equipment of laboratories allows to make discoveries. Together with teachers, high school students carried out a project to replace plastic bags with bioplastics. From 2022, Armenia will gradually abandon plastic bags and switch to natural ones.

“We made this bioplastic bag from potato starch and natural substances. If the decay period of polyethylene is from five hundred to a thousand years, then our bioplastic breaks down in the soil in two weeks and turns into fertilizer. We have already patented our product,” says Sergei Badalyan, a private school graduate.

In ordinary schools, they are usually teased as “nerds”. 17-year-old Mary Gulyan recalls those times with a smile. For her, going to a private school divided her life into before and after. The girl is preparing to enter a university in Germany at the Faculty of Biology.

“Everything has changed here – myself and the atmosphere. If earlier my classmates often bullied me for high marks, then here you won’t surprise anyone with this, everyone around is like that. You have to work hard to stand out. I was called a “nerd” because the goal was to get a grade. And there are no grades in this school,” says 12th grade student Meri Gulyan.

The teaching methodology at Ayb School is known far beyond the borders of Armenia. To study it, directors of schools from the Moscow region came to Yerevan. Muscovites are interested in the experience of a private school, where all students follow an individual curriculum. Each student presents his project – alone or in a group with classmates. But most of all they liked the grading system, or rather, its absence.

“In any case, an assessment is a sentence, whether it’s a two or five. We pay a lot of attention to objective evaluation. This is what hinders learning. We really like this story, we are watching how it develops here and how it can be broadcast to teachers in the Moscow Region,” says Elena Mikhailova, First Deputy Minister of Education of the Moscow Region.

There are 58 licensed private schools in Armenia.
