As Principal, I would like to welcome each and every one of you to Brentwood Elementary School. Brentwood is a neighborhood school and is the home of the “Superstars.” Our campus has been recently renovated and is just beautiful with new vibrant colors.  Our superstar pride begins with our hard-working students, staff, parents, and community. We are a school community with a focus on academic excellence, character development, social emotional learning, and community involvement. Here at Brentwood we have incorporated Thinking Maps in our learning, embraced the philosophy of Civility Squad, Sanford Harmony, CASEL and Positivity Project to develop our character, and involved our community in multiple avenues through our PTO, which was recognized with the State of Florida Award for 2012 Parent Involvement, Innovative Project of the Year.

As we continue to work with and through the requirements of the district and state through this COVID pandemic, Brentwood has big plans to meet the needs of your child. We have a well-developed social emotional program, access to mental health services, and have reinvested in Thinking Maps, a cognitive learning program designed to marry all subjects to writing to enhance student understanding.  We have also established a leadership team to analyze student data and collaborate to best meet the academic needs of all students.  We are so proud of all that we do here at Brentwood. Welcome back to all of our Superstar families. If you are not currently part of the Brentwood family, come by and take a look; you just might be the next Superstar!

In the event of a community or national emergency, an evacuation, or a shelter-in-place order, parents should check the local media and local school system cable stations, hot lines, and the Prince George’s County Public Schools’ website, for announcements about changes in school openings and closings.

News about changes in school schedules is routinely disseminated through most metropolitan radio and television stations.

Emergency Procedure

Generally, unless evacuation of a particular school is ordered, students will be kept at school until school officials can safely transport them home. Because the best place for children during a regional crisis may well be in school, parents are discouraged from going to school to pick up their children. If a parent does go to school, he or she should be prepared to present the identification required by the school system—usually a photo ID.

Note that if a school is ordered to shelter-in-place to protect the safety of the children, no one will be allowed in or out of the school building until the danger has passed. In that event, parents, for their own safety, should also remain indoors. Relying on the schools to transport students home on normal bus routes will help avoid grid-lock in and around schools and help keep roads clear for essential emergency vehicles.

Every effort will be made by the Prince George’s County Public Schools to notify parents and guardians of emergencies; however, it may not always be possible to do so. Those with Internet access may wish to subscribe to a free, automatic emergency Internet notification system. Prince George County Public Schools urges all parents to complete an emergency information form that asks for the names of four individuals who would be allowed to pick up their children from school in the event of an emergency.

Brentwood School is one of the oldest schools in the UK with a rich history and tradition. In 1957, the school celebrated its 400th anniversary, on the occasion of which Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain opened a new campus building.
