Let me be the first to welcome you to Kissimmee Elementary School! Home of the Bear Cubs. I am very proud of our dedicated staff and enthusiastic learners, and I am pleased that you have chosen our school for your child’s education.

Kissimmee Elementary School is a high-performing educational institution designed to develop and nurture successful and independent critical thinkers through Innovation, Diversity and Opportunity (I Do). The ‘I DO’ initiative cultures the respect for our society’s diversity through innovative project-based and student-centered instruction. Students will learn about real world career pathways in the areas of the environment, philanthropy, journalism/media, government, and the health industry by creating opportunities to experience hands-on, interactive lessons that will create wonder and build pathways to future career choices. Our school is a cohesive learning community that promotes the development of entrepreneurship skills in various real-life environments through enriched and rigorous learning within a diverse community where all children succeed.

As demands of teaching children continue to increase, it remains necessary that we all work together to ensure that our children reach their fullest potential. The road to excellence for our students will not be judged by the end result, rather by the path and journey they took to get there! I believe that all of us, the school and the community, must work together as an extended family to ensure success for all our students. It’s our responsibility to empower children with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary for them to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally successful.

We encourage you to be an active participant at Kissimmee Elementary. We have many opportunities to get involved in your child’s education, including our school advisory committee, volunteer program, various family nights, sporting events, and more! Educational research validates that when parents are involved in their child’s education, the child’s likelihood of success greatly increases.

Please do not forget to stay connected! You can stay up to date with school events via the school website, our social media and Remind. I also encourage you to remain in constant communication with your child’s teacher(s) via email, Remind, or the student agenda.

If you are ever in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the school at 407-935-3640 or reach us via Remind or Let’s Talk where one of our dedicated staff members will gladly assist you.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed that it was warned about Nicholas Cruz shooting at his former school in Florida and killing 17 people.

19-year-old Cruz, accused of premeditated murder of 17 people, reportedly left a comment on a YouTube video last year, “I’m going to be a professional school shooter.”

One of the video hosting users reported this comment to law enforcement.

According to the American press, teachers were also warned about Cruz, who was forbidden to appear on school grounds with a backpack.

The FBI said it was investigating a YouTube comment but could not identify its author.

17 people were killed in an attack on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Several of the wounded remain in critical condition. It is the largest school attack in the US since 2012 by the number of victims.

    What were those warnings?

After seeing Cruz’s YouTube comment last year, Mississippi resident Ben Bennight shared his dismay with the FBI. The conversation with his representative, according to Bennight, lasted about 20 minutes.

Ben Bennight also reported that the FBI contacted him again after the Parkland school attack.

An FBI spokesperson confirmed that the bureau was aware of the YouTube comment and added that they had checked but were unable to find out who the author was.

Meanwhile, math teacher Jim Gard told the Miami Herald that school officials had sent emails to teachers about Nicholas Cruz’s behavior.

“Last year we were told that he was not allowed on campus with a backpack,” Gee Gard said. “Last year he was in trouble, threatened students, and I understand he was asked to leave campus.”

    “He was capable of this”

The school did not say why Cruz was expelled from this school.

His former school friend Joshua Charo said that one day they found bullets in Cruz’s backpack.

“I’m not going to say it surprised me too much,” Charo said. “He was a guy who seemed to be capable of something like that.

Other pupils of the school agreed with this opinion during the interview.

“Everyone predicted this,” one of them told WFOR-TV.

However, the police claim that no one warned them about the possibility of such actions by Nicholas Cruz.

“We haven’t received any warnings,” local police chief Robert Runsey told reporters.

What else do we know about the attacker?

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Nicholas Cruz’s comments on social media were very disturbing.

Two of his Instagram accounts had photos of Cruz posing with a gun in his hand. These accounts have been deleted.

Cruz reportedly used an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle that he had legally acquired in the attack.

What is the reaction to what happened?

US President Donald Trump, speaking at the White House, addressed all American children and schoolchildren.

“I want to say that you are not alone,” Trump said. “No child should be endangered in an American school.”

“We are committed to working with local leaders to address the complex mental health issue,” the president added.

According to Trump, this incident shows that people should report their concerns to the authorities about someone’s erratic behavior.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio tweeted that the attack was intended to claim as many lives as possible.

He stressed that it was too early to discuss whether such attacks could be prevented by tougher gun sales regulations.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott called the incident “pure evil” but declined to enter into a discussion about the need for tighter gun control.
