SECURITY DEVICES AT KATY ISD LARGE EVENT VENUES
Katy ISD, in its continued efforts to ensure student, staff, and patron safety, has purchased security devices to be staged at our four large event venues. These devices are already installed at the entrances of the Leonard Merrell Center (LMC). The devices are non-intrusive narrow towers that seamlessly screen visitors for objects prohibited within large event venues. They do not require removal of any personal effects prior to walking through them. Please take a moment to review the District’s guidelines for Clear Bags and Prohibited Items at large event venues. It is anticipated that the security devices will be available for installation at Legacy and Rhodes stadiums and the Agricultural Sciences Center, within the coming weeks.

CAMPUS EXTERIOR DOORS SAFETY SIGNAGE
All campus exterior doors will include updated safety signage within the coming weeks that emphasizes that exterior doors must remain closed and locked. The purpose of the signage is to reinforce and remind all staff and students to take the extra precaution of ensuring that doors are closed and locked at all times, and to not open a door for anyone trying to enter.
All campus exterior doors already have signage directing visitors to utilize the main entrance for access to campuses and not side entrances. These stickers should be left in place, with the new yellow sticker above placed inside over this sticker, allowing the external message to remain outward. All staff and students should avoid allowing anyone without a District identification badge from “tailgating” or following them into a District facility.

Lunch room visitation will be allowed for:
- Adults who are listed as PARENTS or GUARDIANS in the child’s record; and
- Adults who have a signed note from a PARENT or GUARDIAN that gives them permission to eat lunch with that child specifically on that day.
Please remember we are a large campus with a lot of children and families. Our space in the cafeteria is limited. Please choose the times you decide to eat with your child sparingly. If the cafeteria begins to have problems with seating space, we will have to put more restrictions on our lunch room visitation.

History
In 2012, the non-profit Children at Risk classified Morton Ranch as an “urban school” for the first time because the school had over 50% of the low-income population. That year, she ranked Morton Ranch as the best “urban” comprehensive high school in the Houston area. [2]
Demographics
In 2012 there were 3050 students. 49% of students were Hispanic or Latino, 26% were white, 18% were black, and 5% were Asian. [2]
Academic Performance
School performance on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) language arts test for 11th grade students was 98% as of 2012. The graduation rate for the four-year class of 2010 was 90%. [2]
Campus
Morton Ranch High School is a modified re-design based on the award-winning Cinco Ranch High School, a daytime planner. The main differences between Morton Ranch High School and Cinco Ranch High School are the size of the science labs, the gym, and the addition of a third gym at the east end of the building.
Specific detail changes requested by end users have been included to make a great plan even better. The exterior of the building was also changed to give it a different character. Morton Ranch also has a large library located by the rotunda in the school’s west wing. Morton Ranch High School includes the Performing Arts Center, which was planned during the original construction. [1]
Additions
November 2008 Drumming
For growth that surpassed Cathy’s independent school district prediction, a new pledge was handed over. The pledge included construction of the new Morton Ranch High School Nine Grade Center, which was completed in the 2008–2009 school year.
The 9th grade center at Morton Ranch High School was originally scheduled to be completed by the 2007-2008 school year, but a failed bond set the project back a year.

History
Cinco Ranch High School opened in the fall of 1999 after a $143 million bond issue was held in the spring of 1996, and another $324 million bond was issued in 1999, allowing funding to be raised. [6] In its early years, the school accepted displaced students from other Cathy ISD schools, including 8th graders displaced due to overcrowding at Beck High School in the 1999-2000 school year. Other moves include West Memorial Elementary students who moved to Cinco Ranch after the elementary school faced mold problems in 2002.
The original building, built in 1999, has been extended. It consists of a central rotunda where the cafeteria, offices and library are located. It is adjoined by two long corridors running in opposite directions, in which the classrooms are located. At the end of one of the corridors there are sports facilities, including a natatorium, a gym, gyms, fields, a stadium. At the other end of the corridor, at the opposite end of the school, are the visual arts rehearsal rooms, the black box theater, and the freshman center. The original facility was built on 66 acres (270,000 m2). 2 ) PBK Architects site to support a maximum of 2,800 students. [7] The school has a net building area of 433,000 sq. Feet (40,200 m2). 2 ). and costing $37,507,000. [8]
The school has benefited from an increase in the KISD budget, which can be attributed to rapid growth in the surrounding area and the addition of Cathy Mills Mall, which gave a big boost to KISD funds through taxes. In 2001, many of KISD’s high schools were refurbished, all receiving new performing arts centers (PACs). KISD high schools also received additional ninth grade centers, which may be due to the district’s belief that younger students will benefit from an easier transition to middle school. PAC and Center 9’s classrooms were added at the end of the Fine Arts Corridor for $11,356,050. [9] The addition of the Performing Arts Center has improved the quality of theater and music productions. The department includes an orchestra, choir, ensemble, visual arts and theatrical productions.
The secondary expansion, along with gyms and 9th grade offices, has become a very long and narrow two-story building with a total length of a quarter of a mile. This “tunnel effect” creates the conditions for indoor running in the summer. Another major sports piece added in 2004 is the over 30 foot (91 m) with an asphalt running track paved to facilitate the training of runners in running on treadmills.
Former principals of Cinco Ranch High School include Lowell Strike (1999–2004) and Bonnie Bresick (2004–2009). James Cross has served as director since 2009.
