What Questions Should I Ask a Daycare Provider?

What ages does Bright Horizons in San Francisco serve in its daycare program?

Most of our San Francisco child care centers serve children ages six weeks to six years. Bright Horizons is more than daycare. We have programs with developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants, toddler, preschool and pre-K.

I’ve looked at other daycares in the Bay Area with long waitlists. What if I want to enroll at a San Francisco Bright Horizons center but space is not available?

You can select and register with up to three Bright Horizons child care locations, including the center in which you are most interested. By registering, you are confirming interest in all three centers. Once registered, we will add you to our waitlist and offer you a space as soon as one becomes available. Our goal is to accommodate families as soon as space allows, and so during the entire process, we will keep in touch with you regarding your status. While waiting for a space to become available at the first-choice location, many families enroll at their second or third choices temporarily until space becomes available at their first-choice centers. Enrolling at another location will not only solve your immediate child care needs, but will provide you priority access to your first preference.

What is the background check process for daycare staff at Bright Horizons San Francisco child care centers?

Bright Horizons conducts comprehensive background checks on all prospective employees and frequent visitors. In San Francisco, the state of CA Department of Youth and Families requires background checks for employees of a daycare or licensed child care facility.

Bright Horizons background checks consist of a county criminal record check for the past seven years performed in all counties that a person has lived, worked or attended school. In addition to the county criminal search, a sex offender search, OFAC search, and a social security verification trace are also conducted.

Is it safe to send my child to a San Francisco daycare or preschool?

Bright Horizons is trusted by parents in San Francisco, including many doctors and nurses, to care for their children. We’ve partnered with pediatric infectious disease specialist Dr. Kristin Moffitt of Boston Children’s Hospital to implement enhanced safety protocols for all areas including daily health screening, distancing, cleaning, and disinfecting. Our goal is to ensure that all of our health and safety practices in every center are in line with recommendations provided by the CDC and requirements of state and local municipalities. Our San Francisco centers have the well-being of children, families, and staff at their core.

Do Bright Horizons daycare centers follow state/local requirements for masking and vaccinations?

Where there are additional state or local requirements, for example around vaccination/masking, Bright Horizons also complies with applicable legal requirements in each jurisdiction in which we operate.

Are daycare staff at Bright Horizons in San Francisco trained in CPR and First Aid?

How can I find child care when a San Francisco daycare center is closed?

Having a sitter or two familiar with your family can be extremely helpful when you need back-up care. With the Sittercity app, you can search for local babysitters and nannies, or post a job detailing your needs, and have interested child care providers reach out to you directly. The Sittercity app has built-in screening tools that give you control to hire with ease and confidence, which include secure messaging, interview booking, professional references, and background checks.

What is the difference between daycare and in-home child care in San Francisco?

With a babysitter or nanny in your home, your child gets personalized, one-on-one attention in an environment controlled by you. Your child care will match the exact schedule you need, all in the convenience of your home. If desired, you can also get house management help from your in-home provider. A daycare facility tends to be a more cost-effective option in an environment designed for learning and whole child development, with age-appropriate curriculum and structured socialization. In the end, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to child care—pick the environment that’s best for you.

We offer inclusive programs that focus on each child’s strengths and support a collaborative team approach with the teacher, director, specialists, and families. The team will work closely together to maximize your child’s opportunities for learning, growth, and development, and minimize any barriers or safety issues that a group program may present.

April 22

Preparing for Easter

Easter is one of the brightest, funniest and most interesting holidays for children and adults.

This is the holiday when many people gather at the table – relatives, friends. Children give gifts to each other: small, beautifully decorated Easter cakes, painted boiled, decorative eggs, as well as Easter souvenirs: birds, candles, bunnies, wreaths, baskets. Our children also plunged into the atmosphere of the holiday and made souvenirs for their relatives with their own hands.

The child learns to think about the results of any action before taking it.

– Game training format.
– Development of motor skills,
– Agility, speed and coordination,
– Coaching staff.
The main quality that we appreciate in coaches is the ability to be friends with children and be mentors for them.
Mini-groups up to 5 people – this allows you to solve the problems of social adaptation and individual approach.

ABC concept

A unique development concept helps develop a bright and confident personality. We have combined health care, the formation of intelligence and communication skills of children into a harmonious system – ABC.

  • Abilities (intelligence)

Development of intelligence through games and with pleasure.

  • Body (health)

Formation of a child’s strong immunity and care for a healthy lifestyle.

  • Communication (socialization)

Building relationships with other people and developing teamwork skills.

Our advantages

Video surveillance

All our gardens are equipped with video surveillance systems. You can see what your child is doing at any time through the smartphone application, which is especially important during the adaptation period.

Best educators

Mandatory requirements for candidates: higher pedagogical education, work experience, ability to find an approach to the child. All educators undergo regular training at the Sun School corporate university.

English

Our gardens are bilingual, which means that afternoon games and educational activities are held in English only.

Safety

A safe environment is the basis of children’s space: special furniture without sharp corners made of environmentally friendly materials, certified toys, hypoallergenic detergents. Particular attention is paid to preventive measures: the premises are regularly ventilated, the air is disinfected using a recirculator, quartzization is carried out in accordance with SanPiN.

Healthy food

A balanced five meals a day: two breakfasts, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. The individual characteristics of the child are taken into account: allergies, food intolerances. The menu has been developed taking into account the current SanPiN and collections of recipes recommended for feeding children in kindergartens.

Parent feedback

  • Belyaeva Olga Yurievna, mother of Artem (younger group)

Our first and favorite kindergarten! I was very lucky to get into the group with Tatyana Ivanovna, who for almost 2 years became her son’s second mother, and the kindergarten became her second home! A teacher with a capital letter – kind, sensitive, attentive, with love for work and, above all, for children! Every evening, the son shared new stories, emotions, impressions from classes and walks. The children were always busy: sculpting, drawing, experiments, music and physical education classes (in the evenings there were always demonstration performances at home). Touching first matinees and poems. The director of the kindergarten, Alexandra Evgenievna, is always friendly, will answer all questions, help, prompt, always in touch. The entire staff – teachers, cooks, and a health worker – is one close-knit team, so I have always been calm about my son. The best proof of all of the above is that my child cried in the evening that I was picking him up from the kindergarten, and every weekend I asked him to take him to Tanya. We sincerely wish the garden prosperity, success and development under the able guidance of Alexandra! It was madly, madly sad to part with you.
P.S. And how in the garden it smelled of porridge in the morning, and pancakes in the evening – a separate kind of pleasure)))

  • Anastasia, mother of Christina

Kristina came to Sun School at the age of 2 years 4 months. In the nursery we were met by Tatiana Ivanovna, who surrounded the family child with warmth and care.
Reading and analysis of children’s books, original crafts, courtesy lessons, happy holidays, learned poems and dances, and all this with love, attentiveness, patience, without which a happy childhood is impossible. Thanks to our educators, teachers, cooks, Liana and Alexandra Evgenievna for a second home for our kids and sensitivity to the requests of restless parents.

  • Elena, Polina’s mother

We attend kindergarten from 2 years and 8 months. Both parents and the child like it very much)) Children are engaged constantly throughout the day, everything is scheduled by the hour, every day the child comes with crafts. There are classes in general physical education and English. Development program at a high level. The child has a routine. A very comfortable stay in the garden. Thanks to all the teachers for their work, attention, patience and care. Separately, I want to express my gratitude to the teacher Tatyana Ivanovna, she knows the approach to each child, loves her work and our kids.

“This is San Francisco. Disco City. Living wage

“This is San Francisco. Disco City. I would like to highlight the material side of living in the city “in the style of disco” (along with a photo from SF). Not everyone cares about dancing when a family of 4 with an income of $117,400 a year qualifies as a “low income” family.

Below is the minimum living wage for 3 people. To live more or less comfortably, multiply the amount received at least 2 times.

    So:
    – $3000 – minimum rent for 1-bedroom (apartment / house with one bedroom). It is possible, they say, to find it for $2000, but it will be an area where you and your child will not go. However, living with a child in a 1-bedroom is also hard.
    – $200 – medical insurance. This is subject to the provision of a good medical insurance by the employer. Otherwise, much more expensive.
    – $ 1000 – at least for kindergarten, school. Yes, you can go to a public one, but if you rent the cheapest apartment, then the school will be appropriate, so you can invest this thousand in a paid school, or you can rent it, of your choice.
    – $200 – utilities, including internet. Less likely to work for 3 people.
    – $100 – mobile communication for two.
    – $200 – travel. If you live in San Francisco, you can get by with public transportation to get around the city.
    – $300 – insurance for a car + gasoline, since at least one car per family is convenient if you need to travel long distances, to national parks, etc.
    – $1000 – food. It is unlikely that you will be able to feed three people for less than $ 1,000 a month.
    – $100 – gym.
    – $200 – contingencies. Even if you lie at home all year, you will 100% spend $2,400 a year on additional expenses.

That’s $6,300 a month, or $75,000 a year, which is $110,000 with taxes. But this is precisely survival, because the official poverty threshold here is now $117,000 a year.

When you see these numbers, you involuntarily remember a free kindergarten, a communal apartment, medical care in your homeland.

As they say, “it’s good where we are not.” There are both positives and negatives to consider when moving. Have a good day!
