Program Details | The Salem Academy

Salem Academy is committed to formulating long-term goals to support your vision for your child. Children and families in our program will come from a range of cultures and economic backgrounds. Our goal at Salem Academy is to diversify our population, and ensure that our programs are based on current knowledge of child development and early childhood education. We recognize how personal values, opinions, and biases, can affect professional judgement. We will serve as an advocate for children, their families, and their teachers, in the community. We are open to new ideas and are willing to learn from the suggestions of others. We honor the ideas and the principles of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) code of ethical conduct.

Childcare Programs:

Our facilities are custom designed to achieve very specific educational goals. Prospective families are given a tour of the facilities and will be provided an opportunity to ask any questions or concerns they may have or express any expectations they have for Salem Academy. Specific information regarding curriculum can be found at the HighReach Learning website.

In addition to our curriculum we also off extra-curricular activities including Computer classes, Gymnastic and Happy Feet Soccer.

Classroom Arrangement and Procedures:

At Salem Academy, we provide a unique and inviting learning environment.

  • Each room arrangement is unique, very warm, soft, and inviting.
  • Each child will have the opportunity to explore, play, interact with other children, eat, rest, and most of all, be exposed to a variety of creative learning at your child’s developmentally appropriate level.
  • It is very important for each child to feel welcome and be comfortable throughout each day.
  • We highly encourage parents to visit and get a first-hand look at their child’s daily progress.

Lesson Plans and Daily Schedules:

  • Each class will have a posted weekly lesson plan.
  • Your child’s artwork will be displayed in his or her classroom.
  • Each child is designated to have his or her own cubby for personal belongings. This will also help to promote a sense of security and independence.
  • Daily schedules will be followed in order to create well structured daily routines and provide the building blocks for efficient habits later on in life.
  • We will include family style hot lunches and three snacks.

Infants (6 weeks – 12 months)

During these early stages, each day is filled with rapid growth and development. Salem Academy encourages social and language development by meeting the children’s needs within a caring relationship.

Toddlers (12 months – 30 months)

The toddler’s room is designed to provide a very warm soft language and rich environment to support nurturing interactions and the opportunities for sensory exploration and discovery. The program is designed for individual development at each child’s natural pace.

Preschoolers (2 1/2 – 5 years)

Our preschool program is designed for exploration and creative child development. Preschoolers engage in hands-on learning centers involving language, science, computers, art, music and movements, dramatic play, mathematics, etc. Our curriculum is designed to provide emotional support, such as a smile or a hug, to communicate and promote positive reinforcement. This teaches each child independence, which is necessary for growth, creative thinking, feelings of security, and continued success in academia.

Safety and Security:

At Salem Academy, our goal first-and-foremost is to provide a safe and secure environment for your child. As such, we have taken several measures to ensure that your child is in safe hands.

Each child must be checked in and out on our electronic card swipe security system like those used in hotels. Only the cardholder(s) will be able to drop off and pick up the child. No one else will be able to gain entry into the center without the staff’s approval. The director keeps an updated file of names, addresses, and phone numbers of authorized individuals for each child in case of an emergency. No child is released to an adult without proper authorization, Ever! Surveillance cameras have been installed and record up to six months of activity in and around the building.

Children may not be released to anyone whose behavior may be deemed as unreasonable or an imminent risk to the child.

Health:

Upon each child’s arrival, the teachers will conduct a daily health check to keep the children and teachers healthy and to prevent the spread of any illnesses or communicable diseases. Toys and other equipment will be sanitized on a daily basis and proper sanitizing solutions will be used. Promoting proper hand washing will be a part of your child’s daily routines.

Staff Training and Qualification:

Salem Academy promotes and offers equal opportunities for employment. All applicants will undergo background checks. Every staff member must be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing his or her duties satisfactorily. Every employee must be CPR and first aid certified to work with children. Through special training of the staff and innovative learning systems, the Salem Academy is cutting edge in terms of childcare and development.
