About May 2021 National, State, Metropolitan, and Nonmetropolitan Area Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates

These estimates are calculated with data collected from employers in all industry sectors, all metropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas, and all states and the District of Columbia.
The top employment and wage figures are provided above. The complete list is available in the downloadable XLS files.

The percentile wage estimate is the value of a wage below which a certain percent of workers fall.
The median wage is the 50th percentile wage estimate—50 percent of workers earn less than the median and 50 percent of workers earn more than the median.
More about percentile wages.

(1) Estimates for detailed occupations do not sum to the totals because the totals include occupations not shown separately. Estimates do not include self-employed workers.

(2) Annual wages have been calculated by multiplying the hourly mean wage by a “year-round, full-time” hours figure of 2,080 hours;
for those occupations where there is not an hourly wage published, the annual wage has been directly calculated from the reported survey data.

(3) The relative standard error (RSE) is a measure of the reliability of a survey statistic. The smaller the relative standard error, the more precise the estimate.

(7) The value is less than .005 percent of industry employment.

(8) Estimate not released.

(9) The location quotient is the ratio of the area concentration of occupational employment to the national average concentration.
A location quotient greater than one indicates the occupation has a higher share of employment than average, and a location quotient less than one indicates the occupation is less prevalent in the area than average.

You have to walk around the hall, look for clients, fulfill a thousand indicators, swear every five minutes on mats with competing banks at the point of sale, every day the authorities bombard you with letters that you are not doing anything, constantly raise plans and cut bonus schemes.

If I were you, I would agree to sit on the priest exactly and receive 20 thousand.

and I can stay until 23.00 if some stray client comes in to apply for a loan…

so everything is known in comparison, but work in a bank , sitting on the priest and still constantly whining – this is rudeness and arrogance !!!!

How old are you? How many years have you been a cashier? Is career growth realistic in your bank? I am 23 and have been working for 3 years (cashier – senior cashier). I’m afraid I’ll never get out of the cash register…

Guest-cashier at the bank for 6 years, I sympathize with you, I also ruined my health when I worked as a cashier, but only 3 years, and you for 6 years. Have you tried to apply for another vacancy in your bank, in the accounting or credit department, for example, you have enough 6 years of experience.

I work as a loan officer and to be honest, I’m not at all enthusiastic about my job. I see people complaining about a salary of 30-50 thousand – I’m shocked. I (and not only me) have a salary of 1.5-2 thousand UAH. and that is not always the case. Here is the bottom! I wanted to go to the branch as a cashier, but after reading the above, I doubted. For myself, I see pluses in a stable salary and a permanent place of work, because. at the moment there is no stability, you can sit all day just like that and not earn anything. I would very much like to talk and hear the opinion of cashiers from Ukraine.

I am 23 years old. I have been a cashier for 4 years now. This is really the bottom. If you have a record “cashier” in your work record, it’s like a sentence. I tried to move to another department, all to no avail. At every opportunity, they refuse me, although I have a diploma with honors. Those who have not worked as a cashier in a bank will not understand, this is hell!

How to become a cashier in a bank and receive Payroll – Money ©

This was once the main way to pay bills and spend salaries with cash. Plastic credit cards were rare, and the bank teller played a major role in providing people with the money they needed. Payday Friday saw long lines of people waiting to cash their checks and head home for the weekend. Tellers were essential to the functioning of the bank and society.

The proliferation of plastic, both credit and debit, has reduced the need for bank tellers everywhere. As the 21st century passes and the digital economy begins to flourish, the need for bank tellers is shrinking. Banks began to close branches in favor of ATMs. Today, a bank teller is one of those positions whose future is uncertain. So why would you consider a job as a bank teller in 2019? In fact, there are some very good reasons that have more to do with your future than considering bank teller as a career position. In this article, we look at the pros and cons of choosing a job as a bank teller and the possibility of moving on with a few years of experience.

    Basic qualification

The qualification of a bank teller is quite simple. One of the most obvious requirements is that you have no criminal record, because not only do you need to work with money, but also to deal with money every working day, you need people you trust. Not all convictions will necessarily disqualify you, but there are a few exceptions.

Another obvious quality is the ability to count well. It’s not the same as being able to count money. On an average day, thousands of dollars pass through your hands, and while numeracy can account for most of the most basic tasks at work, it’s important to be able to balance speed and accuracy at certain times of the week. If you have already been issued several ATMs, you know how easy it is to glue them together. Many banks process new accounts. If you lose your account, you risk losing your job.

The third important skill is the soft skill, the ability to deal with stress. The client is not always stressed, although this is usually the case. Bank tellers can also experience significant stress that causes them to withdraw from customer service. The ability to be friendly and kind to people who have money problems is an important skill in mastering the art of a cashier.

These three skills – personal reputation, the ability to count money and the innate ability to remain calm in a stressful environment – are what most cashiers will use on a daily basis. They will need to acquire other skills, especially technical ones, as a result of constant interaction with banking systems. But the cashier is a human position. This has not changed with the rise of plastic and ATMs. Most banks will require a high school diploma to be considered, but this is commonplace for most jobs today.

    Prepare for your interview

One aspect of being a bank teller is preparing to dress appropriately and adhere to a code of conduct in an office environment. Before the interview, you will want to check what the specific rules are so that you can properly prepare. For example, if you regularly wear nose rings or other body piercings that are visible to customers, you may need to remove them during business hours. If you find that this is the case, you will definitely not want to wear them during your interview with a bank teller.

Business attire is a general rule for both male and female cashiers. For men, this is a shirt and tie, and for women, a modest dress or blouse with a skirt. If you find these requirements more than restrictive, there is a reason. You will interact with people from all walks of life and, as the front line person between management and the customer, you will make the first impression. This first impression affects your relationship with the client and the quality of your work. Ask yourself how long would you like to keep working at a bank where tellers were sloppy, unprofessional, and prone to making mistakes.

Depending on the bank you are dealing with, you may be required to take a math test. While computers and calculators can do most of the work, it is the individual who will ultimately be responsible for the amount of money distributed and received at the end of their working day. Most customer interactions involve cash. Therefore, it is usually important to be able to perform simple calculations without a calculator.

    Education and education

Here is one area where you can choose from a variety of options. Some of these options will come in handy in the long run, while others will help you get used to your new job. For starters, some colleges offer a bank teller certification program. This will help you stand out from other candidates who just meet the basic requirements. However, this proof will not be of much value, except for the bank teller’s proof.

It is also helpful to be able to get an Associate’s degree (2 years) in a related field such as finance or commerce and also put you at the top of the list for selection. Some websites suggest that a bachelor’s degree is even better, but as we’ll see later, it’s hard to justify the cost of a four-year degree with a year’s salary as a bank teller.

If you find a bank that is willing to provide it to you from the first day you are hired, you will have the advantage of being able to get professional training as a bank teller: a real experience that will pay immediate dividends. Through her experience as a bank teller, she is familiar with banking law, which is best understood outside the classroom. In addition, each bank usually has its own procedures for day-to-day operations. So when you just got off the street and only know the basics of banking, it will be easier for you to practice.

If you are comfortable working as a bank teller and want to consider a career in banking, you can take courses in banking that will improve your skills and knowledge. Here we part for a moment to explain your future as a bank teller. Because of what was said earlier about technology replacing ATMs, it is important to think about your future career in which banking can be the foundation of your future success. A bachelor’s degree is not required for a cashier position, but it can be used in conjunction with experience gained as a cashier to prepare you for your next job. Some of the qualities exhibited by a successful bank teller include: attention to detail, dependability, trustworthiness, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Another seemingly unrelated career path is cybersecurity. Banks and financial institutions are the two main targets of cybercriminals, and as a bank teller, you will be directly exposed to the threats they pose to citizens’ money. If you have an associate’s degree in a technical field such as computer programming, you can work as a bank teller, pay off your student loans, and then go back to college full-time and use your experience to improve your resume. diploma. These are just a few examples, but the most important point is that you are considering becoming a future-oriented bank teller as this could lay the foundation for a successful career in another field.

    Stay in the bank

Do you need to leave the banking world, even if you are happy with your situation? Currently, the answer is no, as you may be moving to other positions such as senior cashier or cashier controller. However, keep in mind that these positions only pay $30,000 a year, which is not an ideal salary for many people. On average, you can expect to earn between $8 and $12 an hour before taxes. There are also opportunities for part-time work, making it a convenient alternative for students or others who are inactive during the day.

Next, we will look at the pros and cons of working as a bank teller. For many, work is about more than just money, and a career in banking offers a range of benefits that make your life easier. Until Argentina ceases to be a way to conduct financial transactions (some believe that this is not so far in the distant future), ATMs continue to be a staple of the bank’s business function.

Benefits of working in a bank

If you enjoy working in an air-conditioned office, becoming a bank teller may be the easiest way. Customers don’t like sweaty hands handling money and there are all these computers and machines that are constantly working to make transactions that generate heat. The workplace should be cool so you can escape the hot and humid summer days (in most places).

For security and other reasons, banks are considered to have normal business hours, with a few rare exceptions. “Banker’s hours” – usually from 9 to 17 hours. on weekdays they hardly change. Banks are closed on Sundays, but they often have extended hours on Fridays to receive people who get paid on Fridays. (Did you know there is a federal law against closing a federally insured bank for more than three days in a row?)

When it comes to business days and hours, banks strictly adhere to the federal vacation schedule. So there is no chance that your boss will ask you to work on a public holiday. Many businesses do not follow the federal official holiday schedule, so you might be wondering how important it is to you to make this three-day weekend a regular event throughout the year. The downside is that there are days when you don’t get paid because you work on time. Therefore, you need to look at your situation and determine if the compromise is worth it.

This is an often overlooked advantage because many people are used to working in cabs. You will not work in a booth. Depending on how the bank is set up, you might find a baffle, but you won’t be bricked up on three sides. Often such partitions are made of glass or plexiglass so that you can see the people around you. It brings intelligence to your work environment.

You will also learn a lot about the basics of money. As you will be dealing with checking accounts, savings accounts, CDs, mortgages and other financial instruments, you will gain real knowledge about real money management. This is especially useful for young people who are just beginning to understand what it means to have real money to spend – or save.

The bank always has a safe working environment. You might hear people say they could make more money working 7-11, so why choose a bank teller? Part of the reason is that cameras are everywhere and security is very high. Statistically, bank robbery is a very high-risk crime for socially unadjusted people, so from a security point of view, you are completely safe. Most banks have security guards, which is an added layer of security. People who hold a gun in their face and work on a 7-11 scale will tell you that it’s enough to get you fired from your job. Cashiers are usually given a polite note asking for money.

    See also

If you look at this list of professionals, you will find that it covers a wide range of benefits that most people can choose from. Security, a decent day’s work, and knowing what most people hold dear and value (money) make it easier to choose the role of a bank teller.

Disadvantages of working as a bank teller

Like any job, there are disadvantages. We briefly touched on the issue of wages, but there are other considerations that may motivate you to look for work elsewhere. When it comes to your work environment, it’s not just about the physical environment. People are also part of this environment, and many of them will not be as pleasant. Many people come to the bank only when there is a problem – the problem they expected from you yesterday. People get very upset when something bad happens to their money, and as a bank representative, you feel very angry. There are clients who are so choosy that you’d rather have a rough-skinned man show you restraint.

The next flaw – one that you’ll probably get better at as you gain experience – is a scammer. There are people who will try to deceive you and steal from you in a very different way. Since you are responsible for the money in your drawer, a single mistake can shorten your banking career and become the target of an investigation accusing you of stealing the money yourself.

When you walk into a bank, you often see chairs where cashiers sit. But if you look closely, you will notice that they rarely use these chairs for customer service. You may be standing for hours at rush hour, which you may not like. On the other hand, there may be times when you literally just sit and do nothing, because you will be dealing with two clients in a four hour period. You can’t bring a book, so boredom can be part of the job.

Protection of privacy and confidentiality are major concerns in today’s society. As such, you will need to be aware of each client’s privacy level at all times during a transaction. Some people are almost paranoid about the security of their account information, and the last thing you want is customer complaints that they don’t take the privacy of their personal information seriously.

This last shortcoming is somewhat controversial, depending on your personality. Some articles will tell you that because money is a dirty thing (you never know where it’s been), it means that you can get some kind of illness, such as a cold, from a sick customer. In addition to hand sanitizers, there is a downside to “dirty money” associated with newly minted banknotes. New money can get you a little dirty, but this minor inconvenience is offset by the smell of new money. Again, this is a personal matter.

Once again about the salary of a bank teller

Earlier it was mentioned that the salary of a bank teller is on the low side. Research shows that your salary can vary depending on where you work and how long you have been working. In terms of numbers, we have chosen to use the well-known Indeed website, job search information, and information as a guideline.

One factor that can earn you a higher starting salary is previous experience as a customer service representative. Customer service is an important part of being a bank teller. If you have that kind of experience, it will make management easier because they don’t have to worry about the new employee not having the right tools. This extra cost could mean another $2 an hour.

Numerous posts on Indeed indicate that bank tellers are taking on additional responsibilities such as sales. This is an extension of the customer service skills required for the position, but also adds the ability to earn a higher salary through commission. If you search other websites, you will most likely find the phrase “plus commission” added to a bank teller’s salary. That’s why.

A new job was posted by a new employee who said his interview was offered at $13.50 an hour but was hired for $14 an hour. True, it won’t make you rich, but it shows how important it is to try your best in an interview because they may think you’re worth the extra money.

Although this item is primarily at the bank teller, such as The First National Bank of Anycity, you can also apply for a credit union teller position. The starting salary will be significantly higher ($15 per hour or more), which will make this option more attractive. If you read this article in its entirety, you can accept it as a reward for your thoroughness and proper research. However, the number of jobs in credit unions is much less than in banks. Therefore, you will have to take advantage of this opportunity with a reasonable level of expectation.
