What kind of school is Riverstone?

Riverstone is an independent day school, which serves approximately 425 students in preschool through grade 12. Our mission is to inspire courageous journeys of academic and personal exploration that enable our students to lead purposeful lives.

What does being an independent school mean?

Independent schools define their own missions, are financially autonomous, and are governed by an independent Board of Trustees.

Typically, independent schools are known for having small classes, a culture built on the importance of knowing students well and nurturing their academic and personal development, passionate educators, and a commitment to inclusiveness and diversity. Independent schools like Riverstone are supported through tuition, annual gifts, charitable contributions, and endowment income.

How many students attend Riverstone?

Approximately 425 students attend Riverstone International School from preschool through high school. We believe that as a small school we can best meet our mission and the needs of our students.

How many students are in each class?

One of the keys to having engaging academics and strong student-teacher relationships is the personal attention that only a small class with an outstanding teacher can provide. Riverstone enrolls students each year in all grades, preschool–grade 12. We use the following guidelines for class sizes:

• Elementary School: Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten: max of 16 students; Grade 1-5: max of 20 students.
• Middle and High School: For grades 6–12, we allow a maximum of 20 students per class.
•  When students enter the Diploma Programme (DP), classes are even smaller as Riverstone offers more DP courses than any other school in the area.

Does Riverstone offer scholarships or tuition assistance?

Yes! We strive to make Riverstone as accessible to families as possible and about 25% of our students receive tuition assistance. Additionally, new students applying for admission to grades 7–9 who are U.S. citizens  may apply for Malone Family Foundation Scholarships. Most importantly, tuition assistance and scholarships do not need to be repaid. Does Riverstone provide transportation?

Parents may sign their students up for our fee-based, morning-only bus service from Boise’s north end area. Please read more about Riverstone’s bus service, including ValleyRide’s bus service.

Does Riverstone offer before- or after-school care?

Yes, we offer before-school care starting at 7:30 AM and after-school care until 6:00 PM, in addition to student activities.

Where are the majority of your students from?

The majority of Riverstone’s students come from the Treasure Valley; however, the school also has a growing population of students from other countries. The school actively recruits both locally and internationally.

Do you have sports teams?

Yes, we have athletic teams in our Middle and High Schools for volleyball, basketball, soccer, swimming, cross country and track. If we do not have offer a sport at Riverstone, students may contact their local public school regarding joining or trying out for their teams. Do Riverstone students wear uniforms?

No, Riverstone students do not wear uniforms. However, as an International Baccalaureate World School, Riverstone places a high level of importance on international understanding and cultural sensitivity. Students and staff should dress in a respectful manner that would not be considered offensive to other members of the community.

How do I obtain academic records or transcripts?

To request academic records or transcripts, please fill out an Academic Records Request Form.  Please note that the student account must be paid in full in order for the school to release them to another institution.

Riverstone is an exceptional school – in my opinion, the best in Boise. Riverstone was a great environment for our son who really thrived in the small classroom setting, with a rigorous academic curriculum and with teachers who were truly mentors throughout his 8 years there. The British International School Abu Dhabi (BISAD) is a leading international school, opened in 2009 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. It is part of the prestigious chain of Nord Anglia educational institutions and, together with other schools around the world (more than 60), is connected to the exclusive Global Campus platform, which has almost 50,000 students from 32 countries.

BISAD offers the British Primary and Secondary School Program (IGCSE) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) in the final grades. Ireland has become a refuge for 65,000 Ukrainians and continues to refugees. Prime Minister Michael Martin said that Ireland had never before encountered so many people fleeing the war, however, despite certain difficulties, the state government does not plan to stop accepting refugees from Ukraine.

Temporary protection in Ireland

Ireland grants asylum to Ukrainians under the European Council Directive on Temporary Protection. The permit is issued directly at Dublin or Limerick airports. The immigration officer will ask you a few questions at passport control and provide you with a letter of permission, also known as a yellow letter, which gives you the right to live in Ireland for 1 year with the option to renew your status.

If you are arriving at another airport or by ferry, you should contact your local Social Services, Intern. It is not necessary to apply for refugee status in Ireland, given that the procedure for obtaining it has a number of restrictions.

Issuing an Irish Personal Public Services (PPS) number

In order for a Ukrainian to gain access to medicine, the labor market and education, it is necessary to have a PPS number issued by the Department of Social Protection. You can get it directly at the help center for Ukrainians at the airport or at the local Іntreo center.

PPSN is a unique identification number containing 7 digits and two or three letters at the end. Every adult and child needs to make it. The application for a number is submitted personally. You must have with you: a Ukrainian passport, a national identity card (ID-card) or another document confirming your citizenship.

After the PPS number is issued, a plastic PSC (Public Services Card) will be sent to your mail, on which your PPSN and photo will be registered. You will need it to register with the Irish government and to identify and verify your PPS number.

Housing in Ireland

The availability of housing in Ireland is very limited, so you will need to stay where housing is available when you arrive. Ukrainians can be accommodated in a hotel room or in schools and large gyms with the prospect of gradual relocation to vacant rooms.

Rental prices in the country are quite high. A private room in a shared apartment will cost about 950 euros per month, a house in a small town 1500 euros, and in the capital about 2500 euros per month. You should also expect to pay utility bills – from 100 € per month.

Financial Assistance

After completing the PPSN, you may be eligible for Social Security benefits. The maximum allowance is €208 per week (€830 per month) per adult. The money will arrive weekly in your local post office or bank account.

The child allowance is 140€ per month for each child. The application is submitted automatically upon receipt of the PPS number.

Medical services

Access to medicine, provision of necessary medicines, including visits to general practitioners, is provided immediately after receiving the PPSN. All services are free for Ukrainians who have issued the status of temporary protection.

If you become ill and need medical advice, you should contact your GP. Before the visit, you should usually make an appointment. You can find a family doctor here. If you do not have a medical card, the cost of admission is between 50 and 60€.

In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and call an ambulance .

We also advise you to have travel insurance for the period until you complete all the necessary documents, because this is a guarantee of your safety and a relaxing stay outside of Ukraine.

Where can I find a job?

Temporary protection in Ireland entitles you to work immediately without the need for an additional work permit. You will get access to the labor market at the level of EU citizens.
