What is the military-industrial complex really? | The world around us

One of the inappropriate words used today is the abbreviation “VPK”. This is such a “worn out” word that today few people remember what the meaning of the term should really be.

Definition of the term “VPK”

The Russian abbreviation “VPK” appeared in the USSR. It has two completely different and quite clear meanings:

  1. Military Industrial Commission.
  2. Military-industrial complex. Russian translation of an American term applied to the United States.

Military Industrial Commission and the functioning of the military industry and determined the policy in the field of development and production of types of weapons and other types of material and technical support for the Armed Forces of the USSR.

The Military-Industrial Commission of the Russian Federation (MIC of Russia) was established in 1999, since 2014 it reports directly to the President of the Russian Federation.

American military-industrial complex

The term “Military-industrial complex” (MIC) is the Russian translation of the English-language “Military-industrial complex”.

This phrase was introduced into wide use by US President D. Eisenhower in his farewell speech in early 1961. It meant a powerful merging of the US military state structures with the military and aviation-missile industries, which, as is known, are in private hands in this country. That is, this merging is nothing but a permanent large-scale corruption conspiracy. Eisenhower expressed concern about the growing negative impact of the military-industrial complex on the American state and society as a whole.

The fact is that the military-industrial complex serves the interests of arms manufacturers and corrupt government officials. It is the great evil of American society, giving rise to phenomena that not only do not correspond to the interests of the American people and state, but also bring great harm:

  1. The concepts of advanced weapons do not quite meet the real requirements of the armed forces.
  2. The choice of contractors for military government orders is very limited and largely dictated by corrupt collusion.
  3. The amounts allocated by the state for the creation and purchase of weapons are incommensurably higher than the real costs of industrial corporations. In addition, there is no strict reporting on the spending of military budget funds (this is what we call “spending funds” today).
  4. The design quality and manufacturing quality of weapons purchased by the state do not meet modern requirements.
  5. The military-industrial complex influences US foreign policy, being a catalyst for unleashing hostilities around the world.

These phenomena are still progressing, although they have already reached colossal proportions.

The functioning of this completely formed extremely inefficient corrupt military-industrial monster is well shown in the American film “Pentagon Wars” in 1998 about the creation of the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle.

The “expletive” expression “military-industrial complex” was picked up by Soviet ideological propaganda and was widely used until the collapse of the Soviet system. It has been applied to the United States and sometimes to other advanced capitalist (“imperialist”) countries.

Domestic military-industrial complex

In view of the foregoing, it is clear that the military-industrial complex is the product of a certain economic system, a certain state system, with the addition of the specific specifics of a certain country. Therefore, this concept could not be used in relation to the USSR.

Despite this obvious fact, for some time now it has been actively introduced into domestic use.

The anti-Soviet political propaganda launched in the perestroika Soviet Union claimed that we also have a military-industrial complex, only much more significant, to which all life in the state is subordinated.

After the collapse of the Soviet system, the concept of “military-industrial complex” began to be misused, calling it simply the national military industry of any country.

Conclusion

The term “military-industrial complex” (MIC) originated in the United States and refers to a close mutually beneficial alliance between private industrialists and military government officials.

In the post-Soviet space, this concept began to be used for other purposes: the military-industrial complex began to be called only the national military industry of any country in the world.
