Queensbridge Nursery offer a warm, friendly and safe environment where we attend to your child’s whole development and learning experience – forming relationships and feeding their natural curiosity. We use singing to enhance language skills, healthy exercise – ‘5 a Day’ to promote physical development, art and ‘active storytimes’ to develop literacy skills, construction, messy play and trips to develop their understanding of the world while building the early foundations of numeracy.
Every child deserves the best possible start in life. Our Early Years provision aims to be creative and motivating, nurturing a love and curiosity for learning and developing well-rounded, independent individuals who are curious about the world around them. Through playing and learning, they find out more themselves and the world around them. The children learn through a wide range of meaningful, multi-sensory, practical activities within a rich, creative environment in both indoor and outdoor learning environments.
We aim to provide this by looking at what the children can do and supporting them to fulfill their potential, interests and needs. We aim for the children to become independent learners through the provision of a balance of child initiated and adult led experiences. We have a box in nursery for parents to post any ‘wow moments’ or home learning experiences with the staff at Queensbridge. We value parents and carers contributing to your child’s profile book and sharing in their learning. The staff are also certified for ‘Parent Champion’ for ‘Your Child’s Journey 0-5’ to guide you with your child’s journey, including key information like immunisations and developmental stages.

You can apply for a nursery place at our school once your child is two and a half.
You can download the form from The Hackney Education site here Nursery application form or visit The Hackney Education website. We also have some printed forms in the school office that you can come in to collect.
Applications for the Nursery must be made in person as we need to see originals of proof of address and your child’s birth certificate or passport.

Child Care Options for Low Income Families
One of the most frustrating aspects of being a working citizen is not having the ability to afford childcare. The majority of day care facilities charge as much as $300 per week for each child. That amount is difficult for middle-class citizens to pay. Low-income families cannot fathom paying such an expense. Luckily, the government and the various states have developed programs that help low-income families get the childcare they deserve. The following is some information on those programs:
Extended Day Program
The extended day program can assist low-income working parents during the regular school year. Many school districts offer this program. The school keeps children before and after school hours for a small monthly fee.
A parent can drop a child off as early as 7:00 a.m. and pick the child up as late as 6:00 p.m. This program is excellent for low-income workers with daytime weekday jobs. The cost is approximately $150 per month for before and after school. The weekly rate is approximately $37.50, which is extremely competitive.
The attendants participate in various activities with the children before and after school. They help the children with their homework so that the parents have less stress when they come home from work. They give the children a full breakfast in the morning program and a snack in the evening program. Parents can opt to pay for the morning program only, the evening program only, or both programs. The evening program is the more expensive of the two because it lasts so many hours after the school releases the children. The evening program is $100 while the morning program is $52.
The Child Care Assistance Program
CCAP is a special program that provides childcare assistance to certain low-income families.
People who are collecting TANF are automatically eligible to receive this assistance. Teenage parents who are working on obtaining their educations are also eligible for CCAP. Those who are not collecting TANF can still qualify if they are pursuing education that will improve their work skills and job opportunities. Parents can apply for CCAP assistance with the Department of Children & Family Services. The financial guidelines for qualification are along the lines of a $3,000 per month income threshold for a four-person family. The applicant must have proof of income, social security cards, birth certificates, and immunization records for all children. Application processing can take up to 30 days.
Head Start
Head start is a program for children between the ages of three and five. The program provides childcare services and medical services to the children who qualify. It is funded by the Administration of Children’s Services. The Head Start program covers childcare from 7 a.
m. to 5 p.m. Teachers work with the children to fine-tune their social and developmental skills. Those who are interested in the program may apply online. Applicants go on a waitlist until there is an available slot in the program. It is best for an interested person to complete an application as quickly as possible since the wait may be extended.
Child Care Voucher Program
The Child Care Voucher Program is in effect in many states throughout the United States. It provides a subsidy of up to 95 percent of childcare cost to low-income families. Subsidy recipients will choose an eligible provider from the list of licensed providers. They may also select a relative or an in-home provider. The Child Care Voucher Program covers the childcare from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday. This is known as the traditional childcare period. However, the program also covers non-traditional times for parents who work odd shifts. It covers nights, weekends, and evenings.
A wide variety of options is available for low-income childcare. Many stay-at-home moms also run small day care businesses in which they discount their services. There is a way to make working and taking care of your children affordable.
Queensbridge: Rap Is Over | RAP.RU
Queensbridge was once at the center of the rap universe. What happened to the most legendary area?
It would be hard for a teenager from Queensbridge today to realize that this area was once the “birthplace” of hip-hop: in the 80s and 90s, more rap artists came out of this closed community in Long Island City in Queens than from entire cities, states and regions – Marley Marl, Roxanne Shante, Nas, Mobb Deep and a bunch of talented MCs and producers . The sound of Queensbridge reflected life on the block. The music was violent, claustrophobic, nihilistic and aggressive. In the loudest beefs of the 80s (MC Shan vs. KRS-One), 9The 0s (East Coast vs. West Coast) and 2000s (Nas vs.
Jay-Z) featured artists from QB. It was no coincidence. Rap from Queensbridge tore and exploded. And now he is in a dangerous position.
As Nas and Mobb Deep’s careers cross the twenties, the next generation of artists has yet to emerge. The last artists from QB to make their major label debut were the Bravehearts, who released their album Bravehearted on Ill Will/Columbia in 2003.
There are many theories as to who is to blame for this development. Middle-class artists like Kanye and Drake who never dealt drugs brought more peaceful themes to hip-hop. But at the same time, for this reason, stories from areas like Queensbridge now seem outdated. The 44-year-old DJ Hot Day producer, best known for his early work, claims that aspiring Queensbridge MCs today are very short-sighted. He cites a recent case from the studio when a teenage rapper told him that Nas was “trash”.
Another problem is the beefs between Queensbridge players. “It hurt a lot of rappers,” says Bars-N-Hooks’ Mike Delorine, known for allegedly getting into a fight with Nas at Sony Studios.
We met with
Tragedy Khadafi Friday afternoon at the Big NY Fried Chicken. He is well aware of the declining popularity of his area. “I look at Queensbridge and think, ‘what the hell is this?'” At the same time, he believes that Queensbridge rappers stand up for their neighborhood. “They soak up Queensbridge completely. But it can be both a gift and a curse,” he says. “In that case, you don’t even know where Nicki Minaj is from.”
As the link between Marley Marl and the NASA era, Tragedy has seen it all. He encouraged the young Kejun Muchita to write rhymes, and, impressed by the guy’s tenacity, gave him the name Havoc (English persistence). “When Havoc first brought the Prodigy to me, there was something about it that I didn’t like,” says Tragedy. I later took back my words.”
Tragedy grew up on 41st Street on the side of Vernon Boulevard and has always been into rap. He remembers listening to songs on the radio as a kid, rapping on park benches, and jamming in River Park, now known as Queensbridge Park, from the age of 11.
“This shit was like Rome…and the jams in the parks were like the Colosseum.”
Before starting to write his lyrics, Tragedy looked up to Rakim, Kool G Rap, LL Cool J and KRS-One. “I looked at them and thought, ‘they don’t do it primitive,'” the rapper says. “I didn’t want to be a simpleton either.” At 16, he was convicted of robbery and placed in the Elmira Correctional Facility. He joined Five Percent Nation, changed his name to Intelligent Hoodlum, and started making conscious music. By that time, a new prodigy had already appeared. “There is a rumor all around: “This is Us!”. When I saw him, I thought: this guy? He was my sister’s boyfriend,” says Tragedy. “Nas always hung around, but I didn’t know that he rhymed, because with me he never rhymed; then Nasir just watched the others. He could be with my sister, and I was in my room writing. I never paid attention to them, because I was on my own wave.
“People say, ‘He stole your style,'” continues Tragedy. “I don’t think so.
I just see that I had a big influence on him. Exactly how Rakim, G Rap, L and KRS-One influenced my work.”
Queensbridge is made up of 96 buildings within a 6 block radius of each other. Therefore, QB has always been described as “six blocks in one”, with each of them representing its own micro-town. This is what led to the beefs between the quarters. “Every block in Queensbridge has its own mentality, its own movement,” says Capone. “I could hang out with someone from Vernon, and these people could be on bad terms with someone from my block, 12
th Street because Vernon and 12 th Street were always beefing each other.”
In the 90s, beefs became a mainstay of Queensbridge rap, and no one was more involved in beefs (with QBs and other boroughs) than Cormega. Born in Brooklyn, he moved from Bedford-Stuyvesant to Co-Op City in the Bronx at an early age and lived there until his father became a crack dealer.
Cormega moved to Far Rockaway, Queens and began selling drugs in Brooklyn.
At that time, the crack epidemic affected all the poor areas of America, and most of all – Queensbridge. Due to the business perspective, Mega moved to QB. “Those were crazy times,” says Cormeaga. He could sell $500 worth of crack a day. “I can say that I sold more drugs than other Queensbridge rappers,” says Cormeaga. “It is a fact. But not a topic for conversation.
Then the story moved according to the usual scenario: he was in prison for armed robbery, Nas expressed respect to Mega in the track “One Love”, then Cormega joined The Firm, which also included Nas, AZ and Foxy Brown. After he was kicked out of the group for refusing to sign a record deal, he started beefing with Nas and Nature (who joined the group instead of Mega), signed with Def Jam, soon became an independent artist and is now a well-respected veteran.
Cormega settled relations with Nas a long time ago. He even made peace with Nature, which confirms their collaboration on Mega’s latest album, Mega Philosophy.
“I try to work with everyone in my area, but not everyone is like that. That’s why people started forgetting about Queensbridge.” Asked if he knows any new rappers from Queensbridge, Cormega replies: “No one gets my attention. Don’t know. You have to ask people.”
When talking about the future of QB rap, the first name that comes to mind is
Sheff La is a 27-year-old bull with a limp gait and a weary smile. He is not like most Queensbridge MCs. Instead of storytelling and overly violent lyrics, he focuses on modern music, the “swag” component. “I like southern music, I do,” he says. With friends, he listens to Chief Keef, and says that younger rappers like to experiment with trap.
In 2010, he traveled to Los Angeles to work with Ron Artest on his Tru Warier label. In reality, he only wrote rhymes for Ron. They paid him money. As before, Sheff La plans to post videos on his YouTube channel, perform at outdoor parties in New York and release songs when he can afford it.
He occasionally stops by the studio, but $40 means a lot to him, considering he’s saving up for a new Windows tablet. “I make ends meet. Life is very harsh here, but I still love music. That’s the only way I can be heard,” explains Sheff La.
He limps down Queensbridge Park, shot in both legs. Meet Ruc da Jackel, also known as Mr. QB. This character is different from Sheff La and promotes the Golden Era sound that Queensbridge is known for.
His childhood is filled with hip-hop memories, pictures of Juice Crew leaving the Marley Marl studio. Ruc started making beats on the kitchen table, and at the age of 12 he read his first rhyme. Then he joined The Killa Kids. Ruc also featured on the QB’sFinest album, where he sang the track “Real Niggas” with Nas, which became an anthem for the neighborhoods. In 2002, like Sheff La, he worked with Ron Artest as assistant manager.
Ruc believes that Queensbridge has lost one of its constituents. “The essence of our community is that this is a community, not just a residential area, and music has always been a part of our lives. I am in awe of this fact.” The rapper’s new album “The I Am QB” features almost all Queensbridge artists. This album sounds like 1996. “If you close your eyes and listen to the album, you will find yourself in the 90s. You are blown away from 2014,” says Ruc. “The region cannot be forgotten. If there are no new artists, then this is the end. We will lose everything that QB is known for.”
Can Queensbridge bloom again? Sha Money XL, EVP of A&R at Epic Records, responds, “Artists have potential. There needs to be a new rapper who tells a story about the neighborhood that everyone wants to hear.”
Sha Money XL thinks that the 90s sound can may come back to Queensbridge.
Styles come back just like in fashion, but in essence it cannot be said that you are returning something old. Hip-hop is defined by youth. Nostalgia will only kill performers. Maybe the future of Queensbridge is not hip-hop at all.
“You don’t have to focus on music. There are dudes in Queensbridge doing other cool shit,” says Tragedy Khadafi. “You can become famous with a camera in your hands or by writing a book. You can get famous for your paintings. You can create a new app for devices. You can write a program and become famous. You can do anything as long as you represent Queensbridge anyway.”
