SPANISH SCHOOLS AND EDUCATION SYSTEM
SPANISH SCHOOLS AND EDUCATION SYSTEM – Luks Marbella
by Natalia | Oct 27, 2014
Hello, today is not about real estate, today is about children and their education in Spain. What, in principle, is an integral part of any move, and what almost every family that has chosen Spain as their new home has to deal with.
First of all, you must decide for yourself which educational system is right for your child – Spanish or International. Today I will talk about the Spanish school system, its features and characteristics.
If you are planning for your child to continue their studies at a Spanish university, then it is most likely better to stay at Spanish schools that offer education for children from 3 to 18 years old. In Spain today there are four educational levels that are equally accessible to both Spanish children and permanently residing foreigners
pre-school education (Escuela de parvulos) – from 4 to 6 years;
Primary education (Educacion Primaria) from 6 to 12 years;
secondary compulsory education (Educaion Secundaria Obligatoria) – from 12 to 16 years;
complete secondary education (Bachillerato) or 1st level of vocational education (Formacion Profesional I) – from 16 to 18 years.
Spain, after Great Britain and Ireland, is the third most popular center for secondary education in Europe. There are both public and private schools on the Costa del Sol. I want to note that all schools in Spain, whatever their form, are strictly controlled by the state and must meet fairly strict criteria, both in terms of the curriculum and the qualifications of teachers. Therefore, the average public Spanish school, by definition, has a fairly high level. Private Spanish schools offer a wider choice of additional subjects and an individual approach. Education in such institutions will cost about 400-800 euros per month.
to 16 years old is an obligatory ESO – Education Secondary ObligATORY, then, after successfully passing exams, children can continue to study 2 years as part Bachellerato). A bachelor’s degree is required for admission to Spanish institutions of higher education. It is very important to understand in what direction the child will continue higher education, because depending on this you will have to choose subjects for deeper study. Directions can be 2 – humanities (Letras), the main subjects will be Literature, History, Foreign languages, and exact sciences (Siencias), where the emphasis will be on Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
For admission to universities, the general state exam Selectividad is taken, which allows children to score the required number of points to enter a particular university. As a rule, from January it is necessary to send requests to those institutions where your child plans to continue his education. The number of selected universities is not limited. The most important thing is to score the required score, which is mandatory for admission to the universities of your choice. If a student does not pass by the number of points scored, then most likely he will have to choose another institution where the entrance score is lower or use Private, paid universities. You can also retake the Selectividad exam in the fall or the next year if you are not satisfied with the result.
Public schools are located in each district and can be accessed on the basis of registration, both by the owner of the housing and the tenant.
Several private schools
- San Jose, one of the best schools, is located in Guadalmina (training only up to 12 years, then children are transferred to Estepona) and Estepona. Getting into this school is extremely difficult. Long waiting list, so sign up early if possible. Registration is carried out at the end of January-February. Education is based on the old Spanish system, a good level of English. Family friendly atmosphere. The order of prices is from 400-700 per month. Many additional classes for the development of the child. As a rule, studying in high school is difficult, but students come out well prepared to pass the main exam and enter Universities
