Private Kindergarten Classroom

With a small classroom size, and individualized attention, children’s education is focused around six important learning areas in this environment.

Dramatic Play Center

Provides the opportunity to experiment with different roles and materials to explore the familiar and unknown through pretend play, use imagination, and exercise social and emotional skills to make sense of the world.

Block Center

Students are enabled to understand how to use different materials to construct, create, and make sense of the way things fit together.

Fine Arts Center

Creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression are developed in this center, as children discover different art techniques, color concepts, and cooperation.

Science & Math Center

Children develop critical thinking skills, while experimenting and exploring science and math concepts that challenge their investigative skills.

Writing & Language Center

Children practice communication through writing, as they work on letter and word recognition and formation, segmenting words into sounds, and putting sounds together to make words.

Library Center

Story reasoning, print awareness, and word recognition are some of the significant literacy skills children begin to develop in this area.

Comprehensive Curriculum and Knowledge Areas

In our Private Kindergarten classroom, your child will have personalized attention from a state-certified teacher in a small classroom setting. Our nationally recognized, research-based curricula provides a strong foundation as your child progresses to first grade the following school year. Students will participate in a variety of activities in Literacy & Language, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Self-Help & Social Skills. Progress will also be monitored and recorded across five key knowledge areas to demonstrate learning and readiness for entering first grade.

Language Arts

Through large and small group instruction, and independent learning centers, students focus on letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and comprehension. Your child will develop skills such as understanding story concepts; understanding how print works; understanding how words are built; writing development; expressing ideas clearly; and vocabulary.

Math

We understand the importance of knowing what your child has already learned and what they are ready to learn next. Students will participate in five different modes of learning: whole group instruction, collaborative learning, small group instruction, adaptive learning, and independent practice. Students have the opportunity to apply mathematical thinking to real-life situations and are supported in developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Social Studies

Students will have the opportunity to share personal experiences, family stories, and traditions. They will also focus on developing skills such as gaining an understanding of the world they live in, understanding time and place, and showing respect for others.

Science

Throughout the year, students gain skills in areas such as understanding the scientific method; observing local weather conditions; describing patterns over time; discovering animals, plants, and the environment; and investigating the effect of strengths and directions of pushes and pulls.

Self-Help & Social Skills

Support with self-help and social skills are critical to a child’s development in kindergarten. Some of the essential skills your child will develop include holding a pencil with a proper grip; using scissors to cut pre-formed shapes; following directions; working independently; asking for help when needed; recognizing and following classroom routines and procedures; independently attending to personal care; understanding another’s point of view; showing conflict resolution skills; and respecting the rights of others.

Comprehensive Curriculum and Knowledge Areas

In a small classroom setting, children receive personalized attention from our state-certified teacher. Using nationally recognized, research-based curricula, our program provides a strong foundation for your child to move on to first grade the next school year. The program offers a variety of experiences, such as independent study opportunities and planned, teacher-led instruction. Children’s progress is monitored and recorded across five important knowledge areas, in order to ensure their readiness to enter first grade.

Language & Literacy

Independent work or group instruction (small and large) are used to explore important concepts such as letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and literacy comprehension.
Children learn what story concepts are; how words are created; learn to express their ideas and develop their own writing; learn how print works, and expand their vocabulary.

Math

Math instruction takes five different forms in this classroom: whole group instruction; collaborative learning; small group instruction; adaptive learning; and independent practice. Math concepts are represented by real-life situations, so students can practically apply mathematical thinking and develop their problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Social Studies

Everyone has a story. Students will explore personal experiences, family stories, and traditions. Our focus includes helping children to understand the world they live in, understand the concepts of time and place, and to show respect for others.

Science
