Boarding Schools USA

Studying in the USA is not only prestigious, but also highly valued all over the world. That is why a great solution would be to send your child to one of the American schools. Here your child will have a great chance not only to perfectly master the whole complex of various sciences, but also to learn to speak English clearly and without an accent. Education in an American school is an excellent springboard for admission to any of the most prestigious universities in the world.

It is after graduating from a private school that more than 90% of private school graduates become students of the university they want to enter.

The US education system consists of several levels: preschool, secondary (school) and higher education.

  • Preschool (preschool) are educational programs for children aged three to five. There are private early childhood education institutions, as well as those funded by the states and the federal government of the United States. Preschool education is not compulsory in the US.
  • Elementary school (elementary school) in the USA – the first stage of compulsory secondary education. As a rule, children start attending primary school at 5-6 years old and finish it at 10-11 years old. In elementary school, children are taught to read, write, and count. Then spelling, the basics of grammar, the beginnings of algebra are studied. In addition, elementary school usually has lessons in physical education, fine arts, natural sciences and others. In an elementary school class, there are usually twenty to thirty students, with whom one teacher conducts classes in almost all subjects (except for physical education, drawing and music).
  • Middle school (middle school) in the USA – the second stage of schooling. As a rule, these are the sixth – eighth grades, in which children study from 11-12 to 13-14 years old. Unlike the elementary school, the middle school has its own teacher for each of the subjects, and the students have a certain freedom in choosing the subjects they study. Mandatory usually are mathematics, English, natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, geology, astronomy, etc.), history, physical education. As additional, you can choose a foreign language, music, drawing, or any of many other subjects.
  • The final stage of secondary education in the United States is high school (high school). Usually high school is the ninth – twelfth grades, in which children study from 14-15 to 17-18 years old. In high school, students are given greater freedom in choosing the subjects they study. School rules always stipulate compulsory groups of subjects and the duration of their study. But within this group, the student can choose a direction that is more interesting for him. Such a system leads to the fact that in American schools there are no classes in the usual sense. So, for example, it is obligatory for high school to study for at least two years of mathematics, four years of English, two years of natural sciences, three years of social sciences, one year of physical education.

Upon successful completion of the 12th grade, the student receives a high school diploma. This document is recognized by universities and employers in America, Canada and many other countries. Gifted children can apply for honorary diplomas – general education Honors Diploma, College Preparation Diploma.

In addition, most public and private schools in the United States allow students to participate in an advanced program organized by the college board – Advanced Placement (AP). This program allows students to choose college-level courses. In-depth study of subjects during the last 2 years of high school under this program allows you to earn credits that go towards university education in the corresponding specialty.

The Advanced Placement program consists of courses in 21 subject areas. Students choose several subjects from the proposed areas for in-depth study. Among them may be foreign languages, natural and social sciences, art, computer science, mathematics, sociology. At the end of the course, a written exam is taken for each of the subjects studied.

The Advanced Placement exams take the form of tests that are scored on a five-point scale, with 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. The results of the exams are sent to the university along with other documents of the applicant.

The AP program is becoming more and more recognized worldwide, and a student who has received an international AP diploma or successfully passed 3 exams can expect to be admitted to prestigious universities.

Also during high school, students take university or college entrance tests, usually the SAT or ACT. By the time they finish school, many children not only know whether they entered the chosen university, but also whether they can count on a particular scholarship.

SAT Reasoning Test (also known as the “Scholastic Aptitude Test” and “Scholastic Assessment Test”, literally “Academic Assessment Test”) is a standardized test for admission to higher education institutions in the United States. The SAT assesses the literacy and writing skills needed to succeed at university and shows how well test takers are doing on the tasks they learned in school and will need to do later. Most items on the SAT are 5-choice questions, of which only one is correct. As a rule, questions are sorted by difficulty in all sections, except for text analysis, where they are in chronological order. 10 questions in the math part require a numerical answer. Students receive results online approximately 3 weeks after testing or 6 weeks later by mail: results of three parts (from 200 to 800 points) and two sub-results – an essay and a grammar test. For a fee, you can get a detailed analysis of the tests, where you can see where the mistakes were made and read the explanation for each of them.

ACT (American College Testing – American Testing) – a standardized test for admission to colleges in US universities, as well as when transferring from one to another. Historically it consists of four tests: English, reading, mathematics and scientific reasoning. In February 2005 there was an option to take a written test as an option. All four-year colleges and universities accept ACT scores, but some may also require additional performance information. For the most part, the ACT consists of four-choice questions. Additionally, you can take a written test, which does not affect the overall result.

The ACT is most commonly taken by students from the Midwestern and Southern states, while the SAT is more popular on the eastern (although ACT used to be prevalent there) and west coasts of the United States.

Benefits of studying at a private boarding school USA

  1. Private schools educate future leaders, diplomats, major government figures. A diploma from a prestigious private school opens the doors to the highest circles of American society for its graduates.
  2. The Private School Diploma is recognized by all leading universities in the US and around the world.
  3. Unlike British schools, there are significantly fewer Russian-speaking students here, which helps them practice their English more.
  4. Children who do not have a good command of English can study in a program that includes the subject of English as a foreign language. This allows you to significantly improve the level of knowledge of English in the shortest possible time.
  5. Traditionally, private schools pay a lot of attention to physical education, all students can try themselves in different sports. High results in any sport during the school period give the graduate additional advantages when entering the university.
  6. Each school offers an extensive cultural program for the entire period of study.
  7. High academic standards, as education in the US in a private school is focused on admission to the best universities.
  8. Qualified teaching staff, few classes, increased individual attention and the optimal ratio of the number of students per teacher (from 1:4) is the standard for education in the United States.
  9. Careful selection of students, as schools accept only well-prepared, eager to learn and able to work on themselves candidates.
  10. Superbly equipped classrooms and libraries, science and computer labs, school orchestras and theatres, and opportunities to practice various sports create an ideal environment for the development of a person in an education in the United States.

Boarding schools in the US are often referred to as the school of life. This is quite justified. Despite the high cost of education, no concessions are made here for lazy people. However, this is just logical: parents pay a lot of money not for teachers to turn a blind eye to gaps in the child’s knowledge, but for ensuring that these gaps do not exist at all.

Private schools have long been famous for their high academic standards and special attention to each student from teachers and mentors. All graduates of these schools go on to study at the most prestigious universities in the world.

We left our own party early and returned to the hotel drunk with champagne and happiness. In our room, we undressed each other and went to the bathroom, where Vicki filled the tub. It was our almost nightly ritual, and when Vicki, my wife, looked at me, I saw on her face either a slight sadness, or a hint of disappointment.

— What? I asked.

– What – what?

– Is something wrong?

Nothing.

– I see.

Vicki hesitated.

– Spread it out.

She looked down at my barely erect penis.

– We tried everything. We should have left something for our wedding night, something special.

Vicki was right. This night had to be somehow different from the others.

“Not everyone has tried it,” I reminded them.

— You mean…

I nodded.

– Yes.

– I’m not sure.

– This is our wedding night .

She thought a little and kissed me.

– Okay. Let’s try. And we tried.

Chapter 9

1

Years passed.

Like most people I guess, I’m used to my life. Actually I never intended to be a teacher. It was a fallback, although I never once bothered to think about what I really wanted to do. So I had no choice but to accept a position as a civics teacher at a junior high school in West Covina. I hated everything: work, kids, colleagues, daily commutes to and from school. True, a year later, by a happy coincidence, I received – on a common basis with the founders – shares in a start-up company that creates custom-made software for secretaries. I had to test business letter writing programs, evaluate their quality from the user’s point of view, and create instructions that the average high school graduate could understand. Letters! I could work at home at my own pace, and most importantly, I was not connected with either the children or the administrators.

This job must have seemed perfect to me, because it was in letters that I saw the meaning of my life. I was supposed to consider myself lucky, but I found the work boring and did not like it, even despite the relative freedom. I was annoyed by endless monotonous programs and mechanical labor.

But Vicki was with me and I was happy. We bought an old house cheaply in Bree, in an area that is just beginning to be renovated. We made friends with the neighbors, went to each other’s barbecues, put up spooky decorations for Halloween and Christmas. When our son Eric was born, I decided that life was good.

Of course I started writing letters again.

I have not forgotten about that frightening visit, but the sense of danger has dulled. In addition, using my abilities for the benefit of my own family, I never felt remorse. I gave Vicky the promotion he wanted and Eric the best education in the area.

Gentlemen!

As a longtime customer, I am used to your company’s quality products. Your employees are skilled and provide excellent customer service, which is rare these days.

Recently, however, I experienced a real shock.

I’m not used to giving undeserved praise. If I am not satisfied, I complain without hesitation. I take quality service for granted and I don’t think people should be praised simply for doing their job competently.

However, when I recently met your sales agent, Vicki Hanford, I was struck by her business qualities. Not only is she well-informed about your new product line, but she’s also willingly changed her work schedule to coordinate with mine. Vicki Hanford is also well versed in the ins and outs of commercial finance.

Your company should be proud of such an outstanding employee.

Best regards,

Otis McKinli

August 1, 1995 9000 9000 9000 Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr. Mr.

Let me clarify. My son graduated from the best private preschool in Bree and was accepted into the prestigious Emerson Academy of Music, yet you are forcing him to attend the lowest rated Ulysses S. Grant Elementary School in the region, not the best Maple Drive Elementary School. And all because we live one street beyond the dividing line?

I urged you to be flexible and understanding, but you arrogantly refused me and are not even willing to acknowledge the existence of six exceptions to the rules for the sake of gifted students. Therefore, I conclude that none of my words and deeds will force you to treat my son fairly.

Mr. Rausch, you are a completely incompetent person who is a disgrace to our community and your profession. In the next election, I will campaign vigorously against you and will do my best to ensure that your short-sighted policies and failure to properly discharge your duties do not adversely affect the young generation of the city of Bree. You are the most disgusting school inspector in the history of the area, and I hope you find a job according to your abilities – for example, frying potatoes at Burger Chef.

Sincerely,

Jason Hanford

I was writing letters again and feeling great. No shame, no remorse, which I often felt before, yielding to my obsession. Now I was proud of myself, my nobility. I used my gift to help my loved ones, but in my opinion, there is nothing nobler and more worthy in the world.

However…

However, I was drawn to politics, and secretly from Wicca, signing myself with the names of old movie characters, I again began to write letters to the editor and elected public figures in newspaper columns. It was in politics that I achieved my first success and longed to experience again that courage, that taste of victory, that indescribable feeling that I experienced when my words, put on paper, rushed along the corridors of power and forced the arbiters of our destinies to change their point of view.

Mr. Editor!

Shame on you. You have sunk to the level of tabloid journalism. As a longtime subscriber of yours, I have always expected to get the latest, most important, unbiased news from The Times. However, your focus on the personal life of Bill Clinton and your unwillingness or inability to comprehensively examine the myriad political mistakes of George W. Bush made me change my mind about your publication. If the shortcomings and mistakes of those in power, which affect the life of every voter and taxpayer in this country, take up less space in the magazine than an imaginary love affair, then priorities are shifted and the angle of view is distorted. Dear President Clinton!

Wonder what it’s like to lose Congress? I am an old Republican and I must say that I enjoy all your failures – from tactical mistakes to unexpected unpleasant consequences of your policies. As one of your Carter predecessors, you will serve as president for one term and leave your post to derisive hoots. And for many years away from political life, you will reflect that your presidency was the death knell for liberalism.
