A part of the community since 1984

Three Unique School Campuses

An Inclusive, Diverse Program

We believe that compassion and tolerance are among our highest virtues. Duck’s Nest encourages children to appreciate and respect human differences. Our schools employ a culturally responsive, anti-bias approach to teaching by using an affirmative model for gender, race, culture, socio-economic status, and differing abilities in an effort to promote equity. We also honor all family structures and members of the LGBTQ+ community at Duck’s Nest. We are committed to building a program that reflects the diversity of the Bay Area and our values.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Teacher to Student ratio in each classroom?
Expand

Duck’s Nest has one of the best child to teacher ratios in the Bay Area.

2 and 3 years old: 1 teacher for 4-5 children.

4 and 5 years old:1 teacher for 6-7 children.

Does my child need to be potty trained?
Expand

Duck’s Nest does not require your child to be potty trained before entering the program. When the teachers or parents see signs of readiness or interest using the potty, we will work to reinforce and encourage toilet training here at school. Parents and teachers are working together with the child to make that transition.

Do you provide lunch or snack for the children?
Expand

Parents provide lunch. We have a no sweets policy and ask our parents to provide a balanced meal for their child each day. Although the bulk of a child’s nutrition is provided by you, Duck’s Nest will provide 1-3 snacks per day (depending on your child’s schedule). We provide a morning snack, a 3:30 snack, and a 5:00 snack during the day.

Safety & Child security? Is my child safe at school?
Expand

Every day we make it our priority to create a safe environment for your child. Duck’s Nest is proud to say that our entire staff has a Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification. We take the potential for Earthquakes in the Bay Area very seriously. Teachers hold monthly fire and earthquake drills so that your child will know what to do in an emergency situation. We practice a school wide evacuation drill twice a year as well. All of our schools are stocked with a 4 day supply of food and water as well as other emergency supplies. In case of a major earthquake, teachers and administration staff will stay at school with the children until everyone has been picked up (even if it takes several days…).

Does Duck’s Nest require Parent involvement?
Expand

All of our locations have a Non-Profit Parent Association which you are automatically a member. The main goal is to build a strong community through social events and philanthropic work. You can also get involved in the classroom by driving on field-trips, going to class potlucks, sharing a story/or circle time for your child’s birthday, or staying informed with the current events at the school. From being part of the steering committee to volunteering some hours a couple of times a year at an event or in the classroom, your help is always welcome and needed!

What Our Community Says

We LOVE Duck’s Nest! The teachers are amazing. They make the classroom warm, welcoming and safe. And they have such creative ideas.

Duck’s Nest teachers are so patient, caring, professional, personal and taking time to “teach” me so I can learn.

We walked into Duck’s Nest and were immediately taken in by the beautiful grounds — redwood trees, large play area with varied, inviting structures, a sand box our son loves too much.

I love, love, love Duck’s Nest.  It’s hard to find words that can come close to describing how much love, appreciation, and deep gratitude I have for this school.

I was truly stunned by the level of affection and attention afforded my little girl when she came in at age three. When our second baby was born, she was welcomed and cuddled by the other children and staff. I felt so happy to have the support and kindness of this entire cadre of instructors who dedicate their lives to the enrichment of the littlest citizens.
