To bid on an item on April 2nd, comment with your price. Items go to the highest bidder once the auction closes at 7 pm. If you win an item, a Community Preschool Board member will get in touch with you to arrange for the item pick up and payment.

Spaghetti Dinner/Family Night Fundraiser
Thank You – We are very Grateful!
Once again our Community Preschool families and friends have so generously contributed to the well being of our little school. In the midst of these turbulent times, the kindness of our community has overwhelmingly shown the true goodness of people. There are so many people to thank; Marco Scalise for 19 years of spaghetti sauce, Norm and Kathleen Geraghty for years of cooking and serving, Tammy and Olivia Friske for serving and donating items for the dinner, Audrey and Melissa McCormick for years of cooking and food donations, Santiago Scalise for helping us out this year for the very first time since he was a preschooler himself, Ann Baker for the books, The Wild family for all the Dairy Queen donations, the Whisenhunt family for garlic, the Gregoire family for olive oil, Hanna Copeland and Cindy Nichols for helping Friday night, Safeway for the buckets and garlic bread, all our families who supplied whole tomatoes and finally, everyone who helped support the school by buying dinner that night. Your generosity of over $2,700 will go far to help keep our little school running.
Thank you, thank you!

Welcome to a New Year of Preschool!
In-Person Classes Begin on Tuesday, September 8!
We are so happy to announce that we have been cleared by Larimer County Health and Environment and our state Licensing Specialist from the Colorado Office of Early Childhood to open our doors again in September and welcome back all of our wonderful families! Our teachers and board of parent volunteers have been working hard to put new procedures in place to ensure the safety of our students and staff. While a few additional procedures need to be followed, we remain committed and most concerned with providing our young students with the nurturing and stimulating environment that is so important for their first adventure in education. These are temporary changes, and we plan on returning to our regular schedule when possible.
Drop-off – Parents will meet their child’s teacher outside the playground gate. Children will need a temperature check (100.3 degrees or lower). Each class will meet separately outside.
Snack Time – For now, we will need parent helpers to bring individually-wrapped, prepackaged snacks when they parent help.
Classrooms – We will need to limit table activities to 4 children per table. Additional sanitizing of surfaces and items will take place during class. Our teachers will help keep large groups of children from gathering in one area.
Pick-up – Children will walk outside with their teacher to their parents.
Parent Helpers – We would like to have the same helpers aid on consecutive days as much as possible to limit exposure. We realize this may not work for all families, and we are happy to help work out alternate days. Before entering the preschool, parent helpers will also need their temperatures taken. While in the preschool, please social distance from other adults.
Masks – Following the guidelines of the Colorado Office of Early Childhood, students, parent helpers, and teachers will all wear masks. We know this may be difficult, especially if your child hasn’t been wearing one. To help them prepare, please start slowly having them wear a mask and build the habit over time.
Hand Washing – Children will wash their hands after coming inside, before snack, and after using the restroom as usual, but will include more frequent and longer hand washing.
Isolation – If a child becomes ill, we will isolate that child in the hallway and notify the parent immediately.
We are grateful for your patience and understanding while we develop these new procedures. We will continue to work closely throughout the year with our licensing specialist and the Health Department to make alterations as conditions change. Please, do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We have missed our fabulous Community Preschool families and can’t wait to see you!
We are looking forward to a great 2020–2021 school year!

But We Will Reopen in the Fall for the 2020–2021 School Year
After discussing the COVID-19 pandemic with the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, our state licensing specialist, and other area preschools, we have made the very difficult decision to close our preschool for the remainder of the 2019–2020 year. We will reopen in the Fall.
These times are unsettling and unexpected, and we’re heartbroken and so sorry that we will not be able to end the year with you and your children. Teachers and board members are working on a plan to stay connected to all of our families during this difficult time, and we’ll be in touch. For now, we hope you and your children are safe and healthy.
If you have questions about tuition reimbursement, please contact the treasurer. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support.
We will get through this together.

Early childhood education | UNICEF
Every child deserves access to quality early childhood education
UNICEF/UNI123643/Znidarcic
Quality pre-primary education is the foundation of a child’s journey: every stage of education that follows relies on its success. Yet, despite the proven and lifelong benefits, more than 175 million children – nearly half of all pre-primary-age children globally – are not enrolled in pre-primary education.
Nearly half of all pre-primary-age children around the world are not enrolled in preschool.
In low-income countries, the picture is bleaker, with only 1 in 5 young children enrolled. Children from poor families are the least likely to attend early childhood education programmes. For children who do have access, poorly trained educators, overcrowded and unstimulating environments, and unsuitable curricula diminish the quality of their experiences.
Failure to provide quality early childhood education limits children’s futures by denying them opportunities to reach their full potential. It also limits the futures of countries, robbing them of the human capital needed to reduce inequalities and promote peaceful, prosperous societies.
Why should universal access to pre-primary education be a global priority?
Children enrolled in at least one year of pre-primary education are more likely to develop the critical skills they need to succeed in school and less likely to repeat grades or drop out. As adults, they contribute to peaceful societies and prosperous economies. Evidence of the ways in which pre-primary education advances development exists around the world.
Yet, global disparities in enrolment persist. More than half of low- and lower-middle-income countries are not on track to ensure at least one year of quality pre-primary education for every child by 2030, as set out by the Sustainable Development Goals.
UNICEF
What should governments do to ensure pre-primary education for all?
1. Scale up investment
Pre-primary education provides the highest return on investment of all education sub-sectors. Yet, it receives the smallest share of government expenditure compared to primary, secondary and tertiary education.
2. Progressively grow the pre-primary system, while improving quality
Efforts to scale up access to pre-primary education should not come at the expense of quality. Quality is the sum of many parts, including teachers, families, communities, resources, and curricula.
Without adequate safeguards for quality, expansion efforts can intensify education inequities. It is only by investing in quality as education systems grow – not after – that governments can expand access and maintain quality.
9.3 million new teachers are needed to achieve universal pre-primary education
Only 50% of pre-primary teachers in low-income countries are trained
Only 5% of pre-primary teachers globally work in low-income countries
3. Ensure vulnerable populations are not the last to benefit
Access to early childhood education has been slow and inequitable, both across and within countries. Worldwide, vulnerable children are disproportionately excluded from quality pre-primary education – even though it can have the greatest impact on them.
To ensure no child is left behind, Governments should adopt policies that commit to universal pre-primary education and prioritize the poorest and hardest-to-reach children at the start of the road to universality, not the end.
*Early childhood education
The richest children are 7 times more likely to attend ECE* programmes than the poorest
Children of mothers with secondary education are 5 times more likely to attend ECE* programmes
Children in urban areas are 1. 5 times more likely to attend ECE* programmes than those in rural areas
Equitable attendance in ECE* programmes exists between girls and boys
UNICEF video
In Mongolia, many people live as nomads, making it difficult for children to get to preschool. So UNICEF and partners are bringing the preschool to them.
What does UNICEF call for to achieve universal pre-primary education?
What does UNICEF do to advance pre-primary education?
UNICEF works to give every child a fair start in education. We support pre-primary education in 129 countries around the globe by:
- Building political commitment to quality pre-primary education through evidence generation, advocacy and communication
- Strengthening policies and advocating for increased public financing for pre-primary education
- Bolstering national capacity to plan and implement quality pre-primary education at scale
- Enhancing the quality of pre-primary programmes by supporting the development of quality standards, curricular frameworks, teacher training packages and more
- Collecting data and generating evidence for innovative approaches that deliver quality pre-primary education for vulnerable children
- Delivering conflict-sensitive early childhood education and psychosocial support to young children and their families in humanitarian situations

Our Mission Statement
The Community Preschool at Grace Cathedral believes that diversity is a strength, and that a high quality preschool experience creates a foundation for a child’s educational and life success. The Community Preschool supports students and their families by providing a child centered, inquiry focused, play based learning experience to an intentionally mixed socioeconomic group of children aged 3-5.
Our Vision Statement
Our vision is for every child to have equal access to a high quality education, in development of just, independent, creative, empowered and respected lifelong learners and their supported and supporting families.
Philosophy Statement
We believe that a child’s early education experience sets the course for his or her future. It is at the core of building a positive self-image, critical social skills, and a life-long curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. The program’s deliberate socio-economic diversity brings together children and families representing a wide range of experiences, perspectives and backgrounds for a unique learning experience that allows students to experience and learn respect for diverse cultures, perspectives and traditions. The teachers collaborate with parents to help enhance the potential of each child.
Admissions Statement
The Community Preschool, Grace Cathedral seeks to enroll children who will benefit from its purposes and programs. As stated in the preschool’s mission, the program seeks to develop a diversity of population by enrolling families from varied socio-economic backgrounds, ethnicities, religious traditions, and cultures represented in the city of San Francisco. In order to accomplish that goal, the preschool will enroll one-third full fee paying, one-third partial fee paying, and one-third full scholarship families. The school will reach out to neighboring communities for children who would be unable to attend preschool without full tuition help. When making admission decisions, the school will give attention to the level of family’s interest in the school’s mission and their willingness to participate in this mission with enthusiasm and sensitivity. We also seek a balance of gender, temperament and developmental levels.
What We Provide
- A developmentally appropriate full-day program for children ages three to five.
- A professional teaching staff and high teacher/child ratios: one teacher for every five kids.
- Play based program with an inquiry-based curriculum
- A location on the grounds of Grace Cathedral on Nob Hill on Taylor St, close to public transportation lines.
- Daily hot lunch and two snacks by Acre Gourmet, with lunch made on-site using local and organic ingredients.
- A dynamic family engagement program with educational opportunities as well as social and community building events.
- Full day year-round care and education.
- A program committed to anti-bias and anti-racist education.
Adjusted Tuition
Based on our admissions statement, our enrolled families will be a balance of families able to remit the full tuition, families receiving sliding-scale adjusted tuition, and families with fully adjusted tuition. Families who are actively enrolled on Early Learning SF, or meet ELS eligibility certification requirements (varies yearly) will be eligible for fully adjusted tuition. Fully adjusted tuition and sliding-scale tuition adjustments are determined by eligibility (gross household income and family size), need (parent employment, school, or other activity), and target population (see Section 1. Priority Enrollments for qualifiers). These sliding scale adjustments vary between a 30%-70% discount from the full tuition.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk celebrated Day of the Preschool Worker
Information from the Pacific News Agency “Ostrov”.
More than 30 employees of kindergartens in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk received various awards, the city administration told TIA Ostrova.
Public educational institutions of preschool type have existed in Russia since 1863. It’s already 159For years, the system of preschool education in Russia has been actively developing. In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk today there are 54 municipal kindergartens and 11 private, 44 supervision groups. The total number of pupils in kindergartens of the regional center is more than 14,500 small townspeople.
– It is very symbolic that it is the employees of preschool education who begin the series of professional holidays in the field of education, because everything is just beginning with kindergarten, – emphasized Svetlana Mirova, Director of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Education Department, in her greeting. – I want to note that all preschool institutions in our city are very different, each of our kindergartens is a unique ecosystem where, in addition to the obligatory love for children, there is an original component, each kindergarten has its own mission, which is successfully implemented. I wish you happiness and harmony – these are the two most important components of success in such a difficult profession as the work of a preschool worker.
So, today Vera Atroshchenko, the senior teacher of the combined type kindergarten No. 3 “Golden Key”, was awarded the municipal distinction “Best” in the field of education of the urban district. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Duma support awards in the field of education were presented by Deputy Chairman Tatyana Rudakova. For the development of effective technologies for management, training, education and correction for the 2021-2022 academic year, the prize was awarded to: teacher-psychologist of kindergarten No. 55 “Freckles” Maria Pavlenko, teacher of kindergarten No. 8 “Crane” Oksana Sazanova, physical education instructor of kindergarten No. 28 “Matryoshka” Danil Titov.
– I entered the profession immediately after graduation, and during my internship I realized that I wanted to work with preschoolers. Any moments that are associated with pedagogical activity come only with experience. I love my job, I like working with children, watching their progress, parents’ feedback motivates and inspires new achievements. And this award is another confirmation of successful actions and the right choice of profession, – said the teacher of kindergarten No. 28 “Matryoshka” Danil Titov.
For conscientious work and personal contribution to the upbringing of the younger generation Anna Dubrova, speech therapist of kindergarten No. 10 “Rosinka”, was awarded with a letter of thanks from the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Also, for high achievements in their professional activities, preschool education workers were awarded certificates of honor and letters of thanks from the administration of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the Department of Education, certificates of honor from the Ministry of Education of the Sakhalin Region. Five educators were rewarded with a commemorative sign of the Governor of the Sakhalin Region “In honor of the 75th anniversary of the Sakhalin Region. ” The head of kindergarten No. 19 was awarded a certificate of honor from the Sakhalin trade union organization of educators”Alyonushka” Natalia Syroezhkina. The award was presented to the head by the deputy chairman of the regional union of trade union organizations of the Sakhalin region, Yakov Maksimov.
Preschool educational institutions of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk constantly improve their potential, participate and win in regional and all-Russian competitions, develop material and methodological resources. The hotel block of the ceremony was dedicated to awarding institutions that are actively involved in the exchange of experience and have adequately shown themselves at all-Russian competitions, including the competitions “The Best Kindergartens of Russia 2022” and “Kindergarten of the Year”, “Exemplary Kindergarten 2021-2022” – this kindergartens No. 46 “Pearl”, No. 48 “Baby”, No. 55 “Freckle”, No. 57 “Bead”.
– We submitted materials and our pedagogical developments for the competition, which we have been collecting for several years, so this is our common victory. First of all, a great love for children helped us to become the best, without this nothing will work, this is the most important thing in the profession of a preschool worker, – shared Anna Safonova, head of kindergarten No. Kindergartens of Russia 2022” and “Kindergarten of the Year”.
Special attention is paid to the development of the pre-school education system in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, with the support of budgets at all levels. One of the important steps in this direction is the repair of gardens, the improvement of their material base, the creation of comfortable working conditions and new places for preschool children. So, in April of this year, preschool educational institution No. 56 “Lukomorye” in Dalny for 330 places was put into operation in the city. Also this year, the facade and roofing of the Ryabinka and Zhuravlenok kindergartens were repaired, the territory of the Beryozka kindergarten was landscaped, the improvement of the Aistenok and Firefly kindergartens continues, and a number of other works were carried out with the support of regional and local budgets. But the main thing is always the teaching staff, young specialists come to the industry, who have become special participants in the solemn ceremony. Veterans of preschool education who contributed to the development of the industry were especially noted during the event.

“I was known as a “scandalous mother”, nannies and educators were afraid of me!”. Stories of parents from Belarus about kindergarten
When parents send their child to preschool, it remains to be seen which of them gets more stress. Kindergarten can be perceived in different ways: as a rescue for tired mothers, an opportunity to go to work, a way to socialize a child, or a place full of dangers. Some parents vigilantly watch over their children, finding fault with trifles, others are calm about bruises and bumps. Moms shared their funny and not so funny stories about such a different kindergarten.
“Don’t you see? I’m having a snack!
Marina tells a story about her son and cannot help laughing, although it was many years ago.
— The son adapted well in kindergarten, but he was already very independent and wayward. For example, I didn’t want to sleep in any day – I got enough sleep at night. The teachers tried to fight him, explaining that I simply did not know how to put him down, and the children were obliged to sleep during the day. I just laughed, because I knew the character of my boy, it was almost impossible to make him do something. He calmly undressed and went to bed, did not throw tantrums, but very quickly realized that while everyone was sleeping, he would have to entertain himself with something for two hours. And he began to sneak toys or picture books into bed. The teachers noticed that the contraband was confiscated, but he stubbornly continued.
One day I come to pick him up, and the teacher, not holding back her laughter, tells me a story. She laid, she says, everyone for a daytime sleep, the group obediently sniffled. After a while I went to check. And on the bed where my baby sleeps, a hill of blankets. And suspicious sounds come from the hill: panting, sniffing, stirring. Fits on tiptoe, blanket – once, sharply. And he is there with an apple the size of his head, all smeared with juice, trying to bite off, bites into it like a hare. The teacher was dumbfounded and asked: “What are you doing?”. And he told her so solidly: “Don’t you see, or what? I’m having a snack! and a blanket over your head.
This “snacking” went all over the kindergarten, and the teachers stopped fighting with my stubborn one. They gave him coloring books and books so that he would not be bored!
“Once I came to the kindergarten earlier than usual…”
Dasha has not very pleasant memories of the kindergarten, she says that she didn’t even think that adults could treat children like that.
— As soon as I sent my daughter to kindergarten, illnesses began. It would be nice if the kids in the group got sick, the flu went around or SARS – but no. And the child seems to be hardened, and the weather outside is good, and the group is warm.
And one evening she came to the kindergarten earlier than usual to pick up her child. I go into the locker room, and my girl is sitting on the closet with her bare booty, in one T-shirt. It was rather cold in the corridor, the entrance was directly from the street.
I burst into the group, and the nanny calmly tells me, they say, your girl peed herself, brought her to change clothes, and carried her wet tights to the battery. And left her half-naked on a closet that is more than one and a half meters high!
I, of course, made a scandal, and at first the nanny could not even understand what her fault was. I went to the manager, I wanted to write a complaint, but she somehow dissuaded me, begged me, promised that this would never happen again. And I was known as a “scandalous mother”, the teachers and nannies were afraid of me, but I don’t care, even call me a pot, just don’t put me in the oven. If only my child was safe…
“Well, give it to him there!..”
— I don’t remember any difficulties or problems in kindergarten that would concern me or my daughter, — Anna tells . – But once my Masha told me that the teacher takes a slipper and beats one boy on the head. To be honest, I got excited. I decided that I needed to either tell my parents or talk to the teacher. But somewhere in a couple of days I heard a conversation between the parents of that very boy and the teacher. Mom and dad said: “Well, you give it to him there, if anything, otherwise he doesn’t understand the words.” And I didn’t interfere, since the parents themselves are asking, why am I going to climb?
First love and plans to escape
— They say that the first loves come in kindergarten. So a boy fell in love with me, his name was Valik, – Natalia recalls her childhood. – Walked on the heels and did everything I say. My faithful page was ready with me both in fire and in water. Valik and I decided to dig behind the veranda under the fence. They wanted freedom! They dug for a whole week, with children’s scoops. Let’s go for a walk and let’s dig. The hole is big, tomorrow, probably, we will break out already. And the next day we come – there is no hole, they dug it in! What to do? We dig again. Tomorrow is the same story. We spat on this case, tired. And then I heard how the janitor complained to our nanny that dogs had got into the territory of the garden, they say, dig and dig, damned! And, most importantly, what stubborn, they chose one place!
Another story was short. They sent me to kindergarten for the first time. And after a few days, the parents ask: “What is the name of your teacher, daughter?”. And I am so important, with knowledge of the matter: “Bronisliva Fedosovna!” And I could not understand what they were laughing at!
“Your wild child!”
“I took the little one to kindergarten, I was worried, of course, but she seemed to be doing well,” says Katya . – The teachers say, they say, go, mommy, the child is upset because of you. Come back tonight, everything will be fine. I ran for my daughter earlier, the group was on a walk. I look, my girl is standing in a secluded corner of the walking area and sobbing so bitterly, her heart is breaking.
